    this is why i love subaru. Not only do they make affordable cars for every type of person, but they still keep on making and improving their performance flagship WRX and STI models.

      +Krondelo u do know how he saved it right? bc the front tires a fwd car would of saved it 2

    • @Krondelo
      @Krondelo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Yeah I know how he saved it, its called counter-steering. This guy probably could've saved it in fwd because a lot of that was skill, but at that speed the AWD helped, in FWD it likely would've oversteered after the first counter at that speed.

    • @Enduro_NY
      @Enduro_NY 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Krondelo how he could just counter steer it and go straight back on the gas pulling the car back into a straight motion

    At first I was not overly impressed with the looks of the car (I wanted a hatch) but with every video I watch I am really seeing this car become a fav.
    Good job Subaru! As always, I shall never doubt thee again.

    @ 3:37, the right front tire actually lifted off the ground at those speeds. Pretty amazing to watch. Former Subie owner..may one day step back into an STI.. They need to make bigger changes for me to come back though.

    The modifications that where made where either required or where allowed by the race standards (which ANY car racing the TT could make) and still be considered a "production vehicle" - this is the new production vehicle record whether you believe it or not. Awesome driving a Awesome Car! When the FA turbo hatchback comes out (fingers crossed) I might need to upgrade my collection.

      +Xanore Gaming Mine too bro, since 12 years old. That was in '96.... Now I drive an Obsidian Black (('06)) STI. Did a pro tune in '08, without any mods (I found out the factory tune was shit). Still unmodified, still the love of my life...my wife understands. After 10 corner shredding years with this car, I wouldn't change a damn thing. Should also say, it hasn't left me stranded, not one single time. WOT!!!

    He had more experience from last year which helped him shaved significant time. If you watched his 14' run, he nearly crashed when the car nearly lost control for a bit. This run he looked a lot more confident and used the brakes less than last year. When you drive more confidently you will shave a lot of time.

      Yeah my dad had an ‘05 when I was growing up, and it was great fun stock, but he made it into a beast. Great memories with that car. He got a fully built bottom end, and then did the top himself. I don’t remember what turbo he ran, but it was huge. I think right towards the end before he sold it, it was putting 750 to the wheels. The most amazing thing was that he hardly touched the suspension, because they handle so well from the factory

  • @SmellyStains
    @SmellyStains 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I love this car but I can't understand how you can call it stock.
    Apart from safety additions like roll cage, fire supression and racing seats/harness, this car has:
    Upgraded springs and shocks,
    Racing brake pads,
    ECU modifications (speed limiter removed and probably tuned)
    Straight through exhaust
    Higher spec Dunlop Direzza tyres
    Well done to Mark and his team. Great drive

      +Subaru Pro if you think about it those mods are what subaru owners call "stock" XD

    • @Y10Q
      @Y10Q 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because even with all those upgrades, it is still under $50k car and within reach of most average consumers. The one they used this year is a $500k car and as such can only be afforded by the elite.

    • @archiei40x
      @archiei40x 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The racing seats were put in to offset the weight gain from the roll cage. The rest of the car, with the higher spec tires are upgrade options. The speed limiter is still there. The car they are using is a JDM spec STi. The parts on the car are all from factory optional upgrade which we don't get in the States. Where did you get your source that the ECU was modded? You think the company is stupid enough to cheat in the TT and breaking rules just to call themselves production #1 in front of the world?

      F1 cars have so much down force from the rear wing that they could theoretically drive on a ceiling at a high enough speed. That said, they would stay grounded the entire time over a hill, enabling them to have an even bigger advantage on this course compared to a suped up rally car.

    • @powermatt
      @powermatt 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mark Evans It's also quite a bit different for the bikes, as they can follow near straight lines through corners that the car has to actually turn.

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +powermatt In what way? If he's taking the race line a bike has to lean to maintain it's center of gravity.

    • @powermatt
      @powermatt 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +vidurc There are a lot of S-bends that the bikes just don't have to treat as a series of turns. They're narrow enough to go straight through, no turning and no leaning necessary. The car's too wide to take those same S bends straight, so it actually has to slow enough to make the quick left right left, or right left right.
      There are also a lot of very shallow angle corners that the bikes can apex by just going straight. When the car goes into one of those, the driver has to apex with the inside wheels, and then worry about not going to wide with the outside wheels. That's not a problem for the bikes with their inline pair of wheels.
      And that's before we even get started on the advantages of being able to see exactly where the apex is in relation to your wheels.

      If they make a hatch with the 2L turbo and a decent fuel economy close to my BRZ, I'll be very tempted to upgrade. It'd make a good excuse to trade in my wife's Prius. Owning an 05 STI, I don't think I could own another sedan. Hatchbacks are so much more convenient for dogs and I really don't want to have to upgrade to a Forester. Too bad the past hatch looked like a Corolla and lacked all of the hard-edged driving character of the 05. I would have traded up in 08.

    I have never owned a Subaru to date but I have been doing lots of reading on the forester and I'm thinking it may be my next car. Because of this I was wondering if there are any owners of a 2014 or 2015 Forester in this group. Here in Canada they are claiming to get 33 mpg city and 45 mpg highway with the 2.5 and a cvt. If anyone in the group owns one please give me some over all feed back on the car. If I am to spend that much for a car I would like to think I am getting one that is good. I now drive a Toyota Matrix awd and very much like the car but all my research on the Forester is making me think real hard about switching to the Subaru. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated either here or inbox my facebook profile. Thanks in advance.

      +exit07 It is all stock, except the added rollcage and firewalls for security reasons. So the added parts just slow down the car as it adds weight.
      So I think you can consider it stock.

    You get different trim packages and performances packages in different countries. That could be a bone stock "launch" but "uk" version or what ever. You get what km saying.

    Obviously subaru has focused on the cars stability of it cornering without loss of speed and confortable drive by reducing the g force put against the drive making the drive less edgy and more enjoyable on the corners and at high speeds i wish i had one right now.

    a huge miss in the footage was a steady camera from spectators point of view, like those seen with bikes passing by :( didnt get any sense of the actual speed of the car

    What if the zonda R that breaks the nurbugring record attempts this run too?
    Will it beat the 1000cc bikes?

      A low slung supercar like that will get destroyed by the course itself. It won't even handle a tiny jump at the end of the video

      Raise the car and it won't generate the downforce. It would flip off the course. Bikes rule here. End of.

      Its not road legal so not technically a production car and to loud to be used in a public place. yes the course is shut down for the tt but there are people who live off the course. that thing can be heard from miles away at full throttle.

    so my question is what cars have they actually taken around this course? the subaru is fast for a sedan, but "production car lap record" ? have they ever ran a gtr around this lol?

    • @powermatt
      @powermatt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +heartkiller93 You did see how narrow many sections of the course are, right? The STI is 70.7 inches wide. The GT-R is 74.6 inches wide. That's nearly 4 inches wider. That may not sound like a lot, but I guarantee you that at those speeds on a track that narrow, the driver is going to notice the difference. It's also probably going to mean slower corners, because the driver's going to have four less inches to work with on the exits.
      Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see someone try, but there are probably reasons they haven't taken wide supercars to the Isle of Man.
