Thank you for providing such valuable information that generally has not been forthcoming from people (including professionals) encouraging me to have cataract surgery in both of my eyes. My vision started deteriorating in my mid 40s (I'm now 75) and after an extensive period of denial I have worn glasses on a irregular basis since. This has been due to the changes and considerable fluctuations in my lenses. At on stage I had good near vision in one eye and accurate distance in the other. This enabled me to live without glasses for some time. At present I find that the cataracts have a variable effect on my vision on a day to day basis and on some occasions there is little or no problems in most lighting conditions. (As a precaution I never drive at night) I can read without glasses but need correction for distance. I have been hesitant to have surgical correction for my vision because I can easily cope with my condition and am concerned about having to be stuck with either short or long sightedness and the associated risks of an operation. I have considered short vision in one eye and distance in the other to limit the need to wear glasses constantly. The lenses/procedure you are describing seem to be a viable option. What is the approx percentage success rate for "near normal" sight after the procedure ? I understand there are infinite variables but I'm just trying to evaluate my options in an objective way without being specifically influenced by possible biased individuals. In order to identify appropriate candidates for RLE surgery, a complete dilated eye exam with extensive testing is needed, and RLE sugery done by experienced eye surgeon for an appropriate candidate is typically very successful.

I believe you are a five + stars Dr. The reason I said this, is because I have met at least six eye specialist doctors after cataract surgery in 2017, and I have not seen any good results. I had heard contradicting answers to my questions from some of them. And by now I have my vision deteriorated. What should I do?. Thank you.
History of LASIK surgery is not an exclusion for RLE surgery. An individual consultation with an RLE surgeon can determine if someone who had LASIK surgery is a candidate for RLE surgery. I hope this helps.
I had multi focal RLE last December. Surgery was successful but lasik surgery is required to fully correct my eyesight and eliminate the need for reading glasses. Lasik is scheduled for 6/2, wish me luck!
@@melissaphillips4625 hi, yes lasik was required after RLE to improve my overall vision including eliminating the need for reading glasses. They told me upfront it’s not uncommon to have the 2nd surgery and didn’t cost extra

Oh if I lean my head to the right I see clear and if I lean my head to the left I see dubble if my head normal and straight I see dubble if I raise my head a little to look up it's normal I don't know what's wrong if u can help me

RLE and "YAG" laser are not directly related. Many patients "RLE" or otherwise will require YAG laser, after any Cataract surgery. It's very common to require YAG after Cataract surgery. Some patients within a few months and others a few years. The "YAG" laser procedure is very brief and done on an "outpatient" basis > no hospitalization.

I paid $10K for my multi focal lens implant but that includes Lasik at no extra change

After RLE do I need to get YAG laser too? My eye doctor is recommending that… I’ll appreciate your response.

LASIK can be done after RLE surgery. However a successful RLE surgery should include correction of astigmatism as well.
