    My wife has been milling our own wheat berries for several months now. We haven’t used store bought flour or bread of any kind since then. She’s a type 1 diabetic and I’m type 2. We have found that our blood glucose has stayed in far better control, our gut health is better than it’s ever been, and the bread products just plain taste better.

    Even though I have studied about nutrition for a number of years I just recently found this information out. I knew that whole wheat flour purchased from the store wasn’t as nutritious as milling your own I didn’t know to what degree. After watching Sue Beckers videos I decided I’m going to start milling my own flour. Her stories about heath transformations is very inspiring. Thank you for your videos too.

    Thank you for such a concise but will rounded explanation of why you should mill your own flour and make bread at home. I went down the rabbit whole of this with Sue Beckers TH-cam seminars and I learned a ton. But when people ask me why or for a reference with the info I would pass on to them I hadn't yet found a video as comprehensive as her seminar... But honestly it's too long and I don't think most would watch it all the way through. So now I can send them your video! ♥️ Most people can keep attention for less than 5 minutes and they'll get the whole explanation in a short video straight to the point. So THANK YOU for making this.

    I personally had those health benefits happen to me I’ll never buy bagged flour ever again. It’s been three years now and I’ve lost weight eating my own milled items I’ve been taken off meds because of the fresh milled flour. My dr is addicted to my bread now too! Will never go back. Sue Becker Becker’s made the difference in my life and you give a very short but informative look. Keep up the good work.

    So I was under the impression that I have a gluten intolerance and haven’t been able to eat products containing wheat flour in EIGHT YEARS. I just found out that I don’t have adverse reactions to fresh milled flour at all. So I’m all in, bought a wondermill and now I can eat eat w my family when flour is involved…at home at least.

      Have you been able to eat fresh milled flour without any symptoms? I have sensitivity to gluten and thinking of trying to mill my own flour to see how I react

    Great video. The fiber in whole grain feeds the gut biome. It reduces cravings and helps with digestion and elimination, all lacking in refined flour. Our gut sends signals to our brain.

    I feel great since I started milling my own wheat and making my own bread and cookies etc. Super high energy levels and I feel great. It's cheap too!

    I started milling two months ago I am 85 a young 85 I love how much better the bread and cakes tastes. I love making bread I hope to be bakeing for a long time. My family said they can feal the diffrence

      The stuff they take out is not good for humans those are where the plant toxins are stored.

      It’s to make it shelf stable, not because it is toxic. Yes, organic still uses some chemicals, and glyphosate has been known to be used to wheat, but organic not so much. At least where I get mine, because I asked.

    Hello! I just bought a grain mill. I'm waiting for it to come in! I do have a question. Shouldn't the heat off baking kill most of the nutrients in the flour? I see most people say that mills that too hot kill the nutrients in the flour. Why doesn't baking kill it?

      Hi! So then you mix the ingredients together, enzymes start to work (fermentation) during the first rise. Protecting the nutrients. Plus you get all that delicious vitamins and minerals from the bran. 🙂

    What about the taste? My wife and daughter love their sugary commercial white bread, and I typically eat honey wheat. Try as I might, I can’t seem to convert them. Now, I have baked exactly 0 loafs of bread in all my years, and wonder if I have been missing out on home milled flour baked bread. What are the chances that the flavor alone could convince my family of the need to make the hefty investment in everything (including time) to make our own flour and bread/ baked goods?

    I am going back and forth between eliminating wheat or getting a grinder. I know store bought flour is not healthy. Would appreciate thoughts on each option.

      Many people have a preservative intolerance. I would suggest trying freshly milled wheat flour first. Just to see if you have a gluten intolerance/allergy.
      Many people realize after switching just their bread that their GI tract is better ans they do not have the pain or discomfort.

    I Thank you for this video.!!!! In the past I was a proponent of a Keto diet. Carbs wher not good and to be avoided.       Biblically I see the word meat means food. And in various verses it refers to bread.
      Freshly milled grains.

    I strongly suspect the Food Pyramid is CORRECT!!!! But they gave us an inferior flour and Bread
    Therefore erroring in those in Keto circle and those accept and eat grains/ breads as provided. Can you help me decipher my suspicions???

      Our body (specifically brain) needs carbs. Carbs are necessary, but in limited amounts. Good bread, specifically from freshly milled wheat, gives us a lot of the daily intake for vitamins/minerals/omegas.
      The store bought flour, they have to make it shelf stable to sell and last a long time. While it makes great fluffy cakes and cookies, it is just straight carbs. So, eating that bread makes your carbs higher because it doesn’t have the same nutritional value.
      Think of it like this, back in the day, everyone had freshly milled wheat to make bread. They ground the grains, then mixed in oil, a sweet of some kind, and most likely used a sourdough starter. (Or they took out the sourdough to make a flatter bread.) In this time, there was less diseases and people were much healthier, lived longer, and more.

      I would go with a birch or maple board. You want a tight grained wood for that. I’m experimenting with pasta myself. I haven’t mastered it yet. 😅

      Having the complete Wheat berry, meaning freshly milled, gives you the whole grain nutrients. Whole grain on refined store bought may have some wheat bran put back in, but it may not be from those wheat berries. It can be bran from another source or left over from another milling period. Therefore the nutritional benefit is possibly lost due to the oxidation.
      Plus, the benefits of freshly milled outweigh the moderate purine level.

      Hi! Sorry for it to take me a few to reply. I had to research some on your gluten question. Extracting the gluten isn’t an easy process. Is there a reason why you want to extract the gluten?
      Have not thought of making a course to teach nutrition. That is something I’ll consider. Thank you for the idea!

    I buy King Arthur whole wheat flour. The ingediants say "100% whole wheat". It has a "best by" date of about a year. You say whole wheat flour goes rancid in days. I must be missing something here. Not making sense. Help me understand this.

      The flour you buy is 100% whole wheat, but it is not 100% of what wheat contains. When the flour is processed to make it shelf stable, the majority of the healthy fiber, vitamins, minerals, and oils are removed. Milling wheat berries right before use gives you all the nutrients you can get from wheat and provides much of what your body needs.
      To help it make sense, I'll give an example that is a bit ridiculous, but i feel it makes the point. If I gave you a pile of orange peels, it would for sure be 100% real orange I gave you, but you'd be missing the best part.

      Thanks for the response. That sounds like awfully deceptive advertising. If that's true then they are removing part of the whole wheat berry. So any part of the wheat berry could be called "whole wheat". For example gluten could be called "whole wheat' or unfortified white flour could be called "whole wheat".@@TheWholesomeHome

      You can, but it may not get it as finely powdered as you may want. I haven’t tried it, but that would be my only concern.
      I do use my blender to make grits though!

      I have a seperate dry container for my Vitamix. I'm not sure if all models have this option, but mine does a great job! Be careful not to put too much in at a time, because it will get hot and as was stated, too much heat may reduce some of the health benefits.

      I do mine in the Vitamix. Made bread from it today. Learned you can freeze the berries prior to putting it in the Vitamix and that significantly reduces the heating concern.
      Ironically, I found that the wet Vitamix container does a finer milling than the dry container and seems to do it faster as well.

    Does anyone know if its possible to store freshly milled flour in the freezer just to prolong the life and prevent it from going rancid. I'm hoping to store it for no longer than 2 weeks of possible only because I'd like to mill different grains together in bulk to save time etc. Thanks

      You can do that. I’m not sure how fast it would go rancid that way. Make sure it’s in an air tight container too.

      You can buy your own electric mill like I have or, if you are local to them in Georgia, Bread Becker’s can mill your wheat for you.
      Once the wheat is cracked, it will go rancid in about 3 days due to the natural oils in the wheat. You’ll have to use the flour before then.

    The nutritional information at 2:30 is that for STORE BOUGHT or is that for FRESHLY MILLED? If it's for store bought, do you have one for freshly milled?

      Whole Wheat is the nutritional content of Milled Wheat in that graphic all the way to the left. The other two are store flours.
