    What a great guy, I saw him here in Poland in Krakow on the Tour of Poland in 2017. That day he finished 5 places behind Sagan in a sprint, and that is another World tour pro you will have this weekend!

    love this dude, never was very familiar with him ( personality) outside of racing. love that he can talk like regular dude and shoo t the shit.. so many athletes go right into that spokesman thing when they get interviews and nothing really comes out of their mouth,
    hope he does some of the Belgian waffle races
    and holy shit did shed light on a ton of little things, like bar choice and set up, VERY cool

    Wow, this guy is chill as f**k. Love his point about gravel specialists emerging in the near future, but sadly I think that becoming the reality depends on there being a financial incentive for people to pursue gravel racing as a career. As crappy as it is for the spirit, that locked-in lifestyle of the pro roadie does build a hell of a strong engine, so I think that's why there's still a tangible gap between the former pros and the up-and-coming gravel racers.
    That being said, there are more anomalous racers that have built their fitness through gravel racing, but those gravel racers have to put significant effort into telling their stories and marketing their achievements in order to maintain the sponsorships that support their career. Would be interesting to hear Nathan's thoughts on the need to self-promote as opposed to being a contracted athlete on a professional team where you just sort of punch the clock and do the work.
    That's beautiful in a way because then there's no Team Sky dominating every UCI gravel race, but it makes it more difficult for an athlete to grow and succeed when they're juggling seven different sponsorships, trying to keep their social media presence up, and working on their own side hustles so they have something to fall back on if the bike racing doesn't pan out.

    very close to paint scheme to the 1994 Team Mapei Colnago Master. Nice touch with the 'chrome' forks !
    I take it that's a mechanical rear derailleur. Is that to take out any potential battery malfunctions out on the course ?

      I think it’s because he’s sponsored by Campagnolo and their gravel group set (Ekar) is mechanical only.

      @@mattdowney6540 Yep, and it's awesome! I'm hoping Campy builds off of Ekar and comes out with a mtn bike groupset. I'd swap out my Sram XX-1 in a heartbeat.

    I watched the video interview with Ivar Slik (the Dutch Evil Knievel) prior to watching this one with Nathan Haas. I'm curious about Nathan's comment saying no-one is running bigger than a 44 chain ring front while Ivar is running 50 x 11. Are they both doing the 200 miler?

    • @jayclark1551
      @jayclark1551 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He was probably only talking about 1x chainrings. I do believe Ivar ran a 2x thus why he can get away with a 50.

      @@jayclark1551 I just had a look at BikeCalc gear calculator. Probably not pinpoint accurate for gravel equiped wheel dimension's but regardless it turns out Nathan's top gear of 42 x 9 is a higher rollout than Ivar's 50 x 11. 4.67 for Nathan and 4.55 for Ivar. Anyway the Dutch dude is a powerful unit and no doubt the aero bars helped him get the win while Nathan finished a credible 26th on his first attempt. I have some doubts about the mechanical efficiency of a 9 tooth sprocket.
