For us Gen-X’ers, we love the Brat Pack and we never thought they were brats!! They were always rad, cool, fun, fashionable, hotties, beautiful, smart, sweet, shy, bold… We grew-up together. They were US! They are US! ☮️💟
@@BAKER22-l4u some REALLY good shit!! ;) Sure, he looks a little time-worn these days, but don't we ALL?🤣 He dealt with alcoholism for years, and THAT can really age your looks! (speaking as an adult daughter of an alcoholic Mother) I still watch any of his movies with a smile; he's a damn fine actor!
I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary. It's crazy that all these actors are in their late 50's/early 60's. Back in "Breakfast Club" they were worried they'd turn in to their parents. Now they're worried they're going to turn into their grandparents. I guess a lot can happen in 40 years!
I was born in 97 but I absolutely love the Brat Pack and anything to do with that time. The first of the brat pack movies that I had ever watched was The Breakfast Club when I was in high school. I wish I could have been alive during the 80's to experience the pop culture and what the world was like back then. I'm so excited to watch this documentary!
Also youtube Mannequin movie where he is he main character and Kim Cattrell is the maneguin who comes to life......Love that movie.......I could watch this guy sitting in front of his T.V. on a Saturday morning in his dirty pajamas and I would still find him attractive........And I would still be happy to watch him doing absolutely nothing.
Just saw the documentary. Outstanding. Highly recommend. Very thought provoking. I appreciate Andrew opening up about how he felt about the brat pack label. These two words thrown out there by someone who never even met him had tremendous impact on his life. His interview with the journalist was riveting. And rather disturbing the man would not admit what havoc his words played on this group of people's lives. What Demi Moore said in the end was right - that guy's comments were more about him than they were about this group of actors.
i wonder what other memorable and nostalgic movies we missed out on due to the negative impact that article made on their lives that, those within the circle either turned down or were not offered, it's sad.
Love to see this documentary and see all the '80s young stars all "grown up", very talented group of young actors back then 🥰. I met Andrew McCarthy at one of his book tours a few years back. Nicest man 🥰, not a brat at all 😊.
Where was Mare Winningham?! They completely left her out of the documentary! Even when Kevin McCarthy was listing out the members, he said 'who are we leaving out?'. Not one single mention of Mare Winningham throughout the entire documentary.
She was only in the one film with them, and wasn't a star at the time either. She never hung out with them - shr was already a mother, so partying with coke-snorting Demi and her then-fiance Emilio and his friends Rob and Judd was not on her agenda. She was actually pregnant during the filming of Elmo's and that's her pregnancy weight there. She actually maintained pretty good career for an actress who gave birth like 5 times! It definitely interrupts actresses careers to be pregnant and then to take time off to be a full-time mother to a newborn baby.
Demi wasn't in fact a very prominent member of the pack back then because she wasn't as well known. She did make a film with Emilio (don't remember the name and nobody else can either), and a much better known film with Rob Lowe, that came along later in the 80s (About Last Night). But back then, in the press and so on, it was much more about Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy as the females, and McCarthy, Lowe, Anthony Michael Hall, and Judd Nelson.
Breakfast club and Less Than Zero are two of my favorite movies from the 1980s. The movie Andrew probably dislikes the most is my favorite of his, Weekend at Bernie's II. It was filmed on St. Thomas where I grew up ages 11 to 20 from 1981 to 1990, the film is a snapshot of the island as I remember it taken in 1992.
I personally like that actors from a lot of our childhoods are putting out some documentation about how it was back when they got noticed. Michael J. Fox and Andrew McCarthy ❤❤
female hormones make us age faster. not an even playing field. women might have more work done because society puts more pressure on them to look young and thin while we praise “dad bods.”
Because no one in our society starts talking about men aging once they hit 40. Women r judged if they look too old, have had work, are too thin, too fat, too muscular, gray hair, colored hair, boobs too big, boobs too small. It's never ending.
@@LauraLynch-p4h Guys can definitely be judged for being too fat or too thin. Also too short. They also have the bald problem far more than women do. And men are judged more negatively for wearing glasses than women are.
It was great!! Rob Lowe is so positive!!! Love him!!! Love the Brat Pack! And I say I'm a brat... I have standards and expect others to do as well, damn it!! ❤
Yes, we know the members of the Brat Pack. I personally always thought of the name as a funny appropriation of Rat Pack, and I never had a single negative thought about it. Every single member was in at least one of my all time favorite movies that I usually watch when I want to remember the amazing 80’s.
The best Teen Movie was made in the 80's and he wasn't in it. But he was in St. Elmo's Fire, one of the most horrible movies that perfectly exemplified certain people of the time.
I remember not liking St. Elmo’s Fire. Don’t remember much about it but I remember being bothered about what was happening with Demi Moore’s character in the movie. I was such a huge fan of her and just remember being upset when I saw her in the movie. I remember liking the theme song though.
I find it very strange he hasn’t talked to them in 30 years. It’s not like they were 6 college kids working at the school cafeteria and lost touch once school ended. This is so bizarre I’m sorry
I remember reading 📖 the magazine article that called them the Brat Pack. I remember around that time one of the actresses , Ally Sheedy I think, asked or at least to paraphrase “What did we do to deserve to be called ‘brats’”? So, it is understandable that they would not view the phrase warmly. Who wants to be called a brat? No one. However, we love 💗 them and they were never “brats” to us but they are the “Brats Pack.”
Here is a thought: they were so young that they were similar to child actors. Perhaps the brat pack label mattered much less than the fact that they were type cast, lost cuteness in some cases, and has the same percentage of career longevity of any young actor. Did the label really mean anything or would their careers be similar if that term never came up?
Saw it. It was a celebrity intervention / therapy session, helping Andrew move on. All of the "Brat Pack" had moved on, it was sweet watching them trying to help him. It wasn't because a journalist gave them a name, the rest all had talent and drive that he just didn't have (which you get the sense he still doesn't get?). Sweet to watch though.
oh oh he got Mr Emilio well well ! Looking forward to this and once again Andrew killing it, loved his docu with his son if you havent seen it its very well done :) travel etc.

Loved the Brat Pack and sad that they took it so hard. But when you're young in your twenties who knew back then how to navigate something like that? Nice to see that most of them are not plastic-y and look like healthy representations of what it means to age.

How was Anthony Michael Hall completely glossed over in the doc? Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles?
That was odd & Robert Downey Jr.
Can't wait to see this. So loved all the John Hughes movies and the music
Kudos to the late John Hughes. He tapped into how we felt about our youth and he captured romance, fun, dreams, possibilities.

All these years on and I still find this guy adorable.......He is like Hugh Grant but he never turned into a mean and nasty person.
This is what I was thinking: so Hugh Grant-y. Also seems prep-schooly. Had to look him up and, yup, dad was a stockbroker.
I was wondering who Andrew reminds me of -- and yes, you nailed it -- the two have a sort of shy, bumbling, sweet intellectual preppy persona.
