I have had this discussion many times before on my other videos, yet again: this channel has been designed for English speakers who want to learn conversational Farsi on a practical level. I teach how people normally speak in Tehran, Iran. Arabic words are part of everyday lexicon, and therefore prejudice against using them just shows a denial of the reality of language as is spoken. Therefore, I won't change my methodology in this regard. Rooz-e shomaa ham khosh :-)
hi i am sikh from punjab india now in living sydney, it is surprsie for me that lot of words in punjabi ( gurmukhi) language we using are persian words. our holy book and litrature are in percian zuban but written in gurmukhi. on school day we read about molana rumi, shamsh tabrez,etc i am learning faarsi in sydey, ur videos are great , GOD BLESS YOU SISTER

Another very good lesson! As you know in Spanish we have "Tu" and "Usted" to distinguish between formal and informal. It is difficult for folks that grew up with English to know this distinction (when to use formal and informal) and have to pause and decide which one instead of it just happening intuitively. Perhaps that could be the subject of a future lesson, who belongs in the "in" group and who belongs in the "i" group. It may be more cut and dry in Farsi than it is in Spanish. Thanks!

I know that your attittude is due to political and historical reasons rather than racial ones, but you should know that the first & most important linguists in arabic language were persian ( alkhalil ahmad & seebawaih _الخليل أحمد وسيبويه) and The Islamic civilization wouldn't have reached its old greatness without persians and their contribution to it. we should all concentrate on the good part of the past because it is the only part needed for good future..
I am an Egyptian and my First anguage is arabic. I intend to learn Farsi for many reasons most important on of them is that I respect the persian culture and heritage too much, and Kiarostami , jaafar banahi, Makhmalbaf , ghobadi, farhadi, majid majidi, and mehrjui__ all of their masterpieces and the other masterpieces of persian literature strengthened my intention to learn farsi . such comments like yours make my hesitate and have negative feelings and negative impression.

Dear Navid, I have answered all these questions in my other videos or channel comments :-) As a quick summary: -i: you informal, -id = -in ---> you formal, "haale shomaa chetor ast?" is not conversational. If you want to use this structure conversationally, you would say, "haaletoon (= haale shomaa) chetore?"

you are the greatest teacher and so easy to understand . i just need more help into this. i have a family who speaks farsi and i want to understand farsi just as much as i can speak english.
Your lessons don't make sense chetor-i ? In Farsi we say chetor asti ! Which means how are you .. The way you speak is the way people from Iran speak.

I think "Chetor asti" is Farsi-eh-Dari and "Chetoori" is Farsi-eh-Tehrani or something ...I have never heard any Iranian-Persian friend say "Chetor asti" only "Chetoori" :P

Salaam Tina! I echo everyone in saying that this channel has been tremendous for me learning Farsi! I do have one question -- you mentioned in this video that you must choose between formal and informal when speaking Farsi, which makes sense to me as French-speaker (tu and vous). I was wondering, is there a way for one to change it to informal in the middle of a conversation? For example, let's say I'm having a conversation with an older colleague in French, and I choose to address her formally out of respect for her age. If she wishes, she could say "On peut se tutoyer", which basically just grants me a kind of "permission" to address her informally (using tu instead of vous) from now on. Does this happen in Farsi/Persian culture, and if so, how? Kheyli mamnun !!! :)
Salaam Molly :-) Yes, It is possible to switch, and the context would be similar to your example. All the verb endings for "tu" in Farsi will be "-i" and all the verb ending for "vous" will be "-in", so you can simply use these different endings to reflect that you are switching from informal to formal or vice versa: "raft-in?" Vs, "raft-i?", for example. Hope this helped, and thanks for watching!

chetorid and chetorand are just the way they're written. In regular conversation, both are acceptable.
