The graphics were made with Inkscape, of course. The video is a capture of a realtime "demo" using Direct3D and my own engine. I'm currently working on an editor for this kind of video, that can be used in combination with Inkscape.
Yes, the crispness of the 2d shader is what impressed me most back then - it was a time when not even fonts on operating systems where rendered that good.
It is one of my favourite demos, and my 2yr old son loved it until 4:44 or so at which point he declared "scary". He still seem to like the music tough.
I keep coming back to this masterpiece for all those 12 years, at least monthly. Whie the direction and graphics are truly massive, the score is just crazy perfect. It is so tightly woven and all the subtle long winded transitions are just a fucking delight! When this was fresh, I remember my gfx card getting all sweaty in the space part, no matter how low the settings. I'm so glad to being able to have this blast at best quality, all AA and motion blurrig set to max at max frame rates these days. You guys inspired so many to pursue a career in IT and/or music - you really should be a bit proud of yourselves. Danke!!
I come back to this vid every now and then when I want to be reminded of just some of the best tracks of this genre. It's not just the video, it's not just the audio; both work so well
Hammergeile Demo. Mach weiter so... kanns kaum was neues von dir & FR erwarten
@@one-bell Debris is cool, but this one here is one of the best instances of an actual art piece being also actually enjoyable at face value. (They've had a few artsy things that may have been cool if you "got it", but not so much on their own imho.) Especially the sound track is just insanely good, even compared to the master piece Debris brings to the table.
@@one-bell I have! While technically also great, this is precisely one of the "artsy" ones that don't tickle my art senses at all, despite being based on the same technique. Also the audio isn't on the same level as Masagin. Thanks though!
Awesome demo! - Loved this when I first saw it, and still an awesome, mind-bending, thumping experience, with some fantastic nostalgic nods! - CLASSIC!
very well done, the synchronization of the animation to the track is done to a caliber of the likes of chris cunningham, and that takes alot of time, skill, and artistic talent - *clap clap clap* .. love it ,
I just watched this video for the first time in like 5 years, and I wondered if you've posted anything recently. In your uploads there's nothing for the last 3 years, and then a new video within the last 12 hours. lol. What peculiar timing.
Some parts of this demo makes me feel like they've been composed with Flash due to their simplicity: 2:42 for instance is such a part while while parts like 4:40 shows that this most likely ain't flash used to create this masterpiece.
Yeah, I wonder if this is a custom SVG renderer or something? They said Inkscape was used for the graphics so I assume they coded some vector graphic parser to zoom and stitch the raw material. It's a real masterpiece.
wow, are you one of the developers behind this demo? Im really amazed by the work you have done with this one. I keep re watching this demo over as a source of inspiration, its very creative. well done and much kudos :)
masagin - "three pounds of flax" I'm not 100% certain, but i think it means.... If you get caught up in the right and wrong, then the right and wrong will control you.
I disagree about the beginning. When I saw this the first time, I had no idea it would go so deep from the beginning. I was just enjoying the plants growing when suddenly one of the flowers decided to take me deeper and deeper and deeper... To show me all these different dimensions and realities. Twisting and charming demo!
@FRAGNUB4FUN there are a lot of different tools and languages that can be used, but this wasn't programmed - it was sequenced - ( i am assuming, since i did not create it myself - please correct me if i'm wrong .. ) ... visual tracks were laid down as an accompaniment to the audio, rendering the audio tracks in any editor can give you a score, timing that score with your own animations is easy, making it look as sick as this one did, requires skill ..
My jaw still drops in 2023. :D
One of the best demo ever. Masterpiece of code, art, music and design!
Now in 2021 still amazing! 💖💝👍
my #1 is still ASD - Spin

13 and still badass.
seriously one of the finest works of art to come out of the demoscene. timeless & classic.
A monk asked Tozan: "What is Buddha?" - Tozan said: "Masagin!"
It's a zen koan. Tozan is a zen master.
Tozan actually said: Scheisse! As we found out later...
Tozan: “Masagin!”
Me: “Gesundheit!”

I come back to this every so often. It may very well be one of my favourite things I've seen on the internet.
Same!
This song is one of the best demo tunes I've heard. With a definitive rasta feeling and a relentless groove it is bound to get you want to dance.
This is hands down one of the best videos to watch while tripping on acid.
+Neekstarrr obviously you haven't done your research on LSD...
if a person is adequate - then there is no need to worry about
Love the demo. TH-cam will never look as crisp as the real thing, sadly.

How? Can you travel there? Let's love the demo!
Yes, the crispness of the 2d shader is what impressed me most back then - it was a time when not even fonts on operating systems where rendered that good.
cant believe how talented some people are! music is amazing too in it's own right too.
This is the fusion of sound and it's visualization,
of simplicity and depth,
of different feelings.
Who knew anti-aliased lines and motion blur could look so good. Where are all of these good programmers who are also great visual artists coming from?
+Christopher Brown Farbrausch has been around for ages.

Wonderful for historical reference. Graphics and fractals have evolved so much and it's interesting to see the progression :)

Farbrausch как всегда молодцы. Качественную демку сделали на 5+ :)
This vector graphics aesthetic is so great. You could tell from the intro with just the logos that this was going to be amazing.
Ten years later still in my top 3 of demos, ever. Fucking awesome.
What are the other two? Id like to know!
Probably one of the best invitation demo of all time. Just great !
You can not put more style in 8 minutes! Some parts of this are pure genious!
This is still in my top 5 favorites :)
Such an incredible journey! My favourite piece of art since I found it. And I am still blown away every single time! ❤️
One of the best demo's around, regardless the platform! This one has got it all! Stays fresh, every frame, every sound bit!!
I've watched this demo more than a few times, still love it. Oddly, I only just noticed the whistling today, though...
This is the best thing I've ever seen from Farbrausch.

im getting in love with the demoscene
This is the first demo since Candytron & The Popular Demo i REALLY liked! Never gets boring and AMAZING music.
I remember seeing this for the first time at Birdie 2008, it blew my mind! I especially love the "la la la" vocals ;)
Okay wow those are some amazing graphics.
WOW! can't believe I've missed this for such a long time. This is to demoscene what "Tago Mago" is to psychodelic music
How lovely that mic hit at the end.
Nostalgic every time I watch it. What a banger
