    Speaking as a grumpy Brit 46 year old Radiohead fan I usually dread bands covering "my music" but this is absolutely blooming brilliant! I hope the 5 chancers from Oxfordshire have seen it...and enjoyed it as much as I have. Thank you for posting.

    The banjo and mandoline solos are mind blowing.

    It’s so different but in a way it is the perfect cover - distinctly reinterpreted and yet contains all the expected musical elements and cadences that this song exemplifies. So well done. Yes, watching this 12 years later.

    Chris Thile makes playing the mandolin look the same as a guy playing a gigantic Marshall wall of amps and a Les Paul. He is ROCKIN'!!

    Radiohead should add more banjo solos in their songs.
    Get to work Johnny, you can play pretty much anything else

      I read somewhere that Jonny has always wanted to have banjo in Radiohead music, but it's the one instrument Thom has protested.

    That's right, his expressions have always been that way since he was playing as a pre-teen. He truely feels what he's playing and he can't stop what he feels.

    There was a version of this that was taken off of TH-cam. It kicked major ass and I would love to see it again. VERY hot version without the video quality of this one but great audio and great energy. If anyone thinks they may have this, please message me. Thanks.

    Haha, I wasn't trying to offend you - I was honestly interested in what you would have to say since you made a very strong statement. "banjo is wrong for this song" is an assertion. Opinion would be: "I don't like how the banjo sounds in this song."

    Wow, that guitar solo was stunningly sloppy. The only satisfactory performance from Punch Brothers is "picture perfect." That's the 2016 standard, but I see this video is from 8/2011, and 5 years is a lot of time to improve your craft. They really have come so far, from the top to the heavens. Other than slightly imperfect vocals, this is the first time any one of the members of this band has appeared human to me. And this cover is amazing. One of these days maybe we'll get a "PB does Radiohead" LP.

    • @michaelfvt
      @michaelfvt 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Lance Tschirhart I used to think that if there was a "weak link" in Punch bros, it was Critter, but then I started realizing that everyone and their brother plays the guitar, and to have a guitarist who is able to do what he does on the guitar and to add what he adds to their music is nothing short of incredible. He may not be the most flashy or the most technically gifted of the members of the band, but his sense of rhythm, his choice of chord voicings, and his general feel for the music make them such a better band than when they had Bryan Sutton filling in for him. I also think he is the most improved in his solos out of everyone in the band since playing with Julian Lage. Also, I disagree that "the only satisfactory performance from PB is 'picture perfect.'" My favorite performances from them have been the unscripted ones -- the ones that show their human side and the ones that show that they do make mistakes, but are able to use their mistakes in their music and see where they take them, which is an important part of being an improvisational musician.

      Michael Farmer I appreciate the thoughtful response.

    • @smeltnight2002
      @smeltnight2002 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gotta disagree with you on that one. Critter's solo here sounded to me a lot like Tony Rice's solos where he would explore and improvise a lot more than play licks that he had practiced before hand. To each his own, but I personally think that one of the best parts about PB is they CAN all play "picture perfect" when they want to (and really could back then too) but they're still willing to go outside their comfort zones in live performances. It can't work for everyone every time. Perfect is boring, man. Cheers.
