Glad to see Rotary getting featured. I think they quite often get overlooked. I owned the Sherlock watch and loved it. Gifted it to my step daughter when her Citizen broke. She loves the show and now wears the watch everywhere. Excellent piece and review.
Growing up on a council estate in Leicester England after the war, Rotary was very definitely considered as posh or not too shabby. When I bought a Rotary true Explorer homage, not even knowing that it was so, my mother was impressed. I also now have the quartz Batman GMT and the two faced Revelation. Moise Dreyfuss Rocks!
As a Brit I do like Rotary and have owned dozens of them over the years. This is a nice looking watch but agree that the choice of movement is really poor given the options available. The 9015 would have been a much better choice and I doubt that buying them in such bulk like Rotary would do it would cost them much more. Unfortunately Bond will never wear a Rotary!
Nice looking watch. I actually like the Rotary, especially their aviation chronograph. $350 USD is about $480 AUD, a lot of coin for that basic movement I think(?) As $500 here can buy you a pretty good watch👍
Several years ago, a friend of mine here in the U.S. had a '69 Jaguar XKE that he restored and painted BRG. Love that color. It was a perfect match to the black interior.
Miyota 8215 is legendary for its long term reliability and is not a negative for me. Hacking and bidirectional winding are said to put more wear and tear on the movement.
Never had an issue with 8000 series. I have an Orient tri star that is louder and rougher than that. I have an older Bulova skeleton dial and it looks pretty cool to see the rotor freewheeling behind the movement
I think hacking is over rated unless you have ocd. In that case you wouldn't wear a mechanical watch because they aren't as accurate as quartz movements. The rotor noise can sometimes be the determining factor depending the case design.
Hey love your channel.. I own many watches .. had the Rotary super 7 scuba for a few months. AMAZING watch , Great Quality on a scale from 1- 10 , I give them a 9+ excellent everyday , and I use as my Overseas travel watch... will not find anything better than Rotary at this Price. .. cheers..
I've been seeing Rotary watches popping up on TH-cam videos and the one you've showcased is really different from what I've seen. The green dial looks really good.
Nice review, looking to add a Rotary to my vast watch collection of automatic time pieces though i own one Quartz and it is in fact a Rotary. Shall watch a few more Rotary videos before i purchase one. Cheers.
My Frist watch in collection was a „Navitimer Style“ Rotary, 9 Years ago. Still love my collection starter watch. Highly recommend this brand. You get more than you expect.
I remember my late dad who had two watches an Omega for nice wear and a Rotary watch for working in the garden. I cannot remember what model it was but he was always very fond of it until it got broken beyond repair when it fell in front of the electric lawnmower!! He got a Casio digital as a replacement! However the movement is definitely a negative, I've had watches with this movement where it stutters even with no shock or shake.
Great choice. I went for the orange super 7. Build quality and finish is absolutely another league. The brushing dare I say matches many high end brands. As for the Miyota movement, excellent timekeeping out the box and you do not notice the Rotor spinning due to the substantial case. I like the fact it is different enough to the Rolex and Seiko divers. Enjoy and hope you are pleased too.
Actually just got this with a blue dial and bezel with a jubilee bracelet…..it’s a very attractive watch….it actually kind of is a cross between a Smurf and a seamaster!
Very nice video! You do a good job at keeping it fair! I have the Rotary Super 7 (their collaboration with WatchNation) in both Orange and Green and think those are just a little better than the Henley. Although the Henley looks a bit more sophisticated. I do think the hour markers appear slightly undersized for the 42 case. If they would do it in a 40 it would probably look better balanced. I do like thier orange and green colors- vey cool!
At $350 this should have a miyota 9000 series movement. that would put this watch in a much more desirable position in a totally saturated $300 - $500 price segment.
I've a couple of Rotary watches, and I've no problem with them - built to a price, look good, work ok, not expensive etc etc. Nice name, used to be Swiss, did the switch the opposite way around that Rolex did. (Rolex started in Britain then moved to Switzerland)
I have a watch with a sterling silver case, SD importers mark (Sylvain Dreyfus and his brother George were the sons of the founder Moise Dreyfus), 1929 Glasgow import hallmark and Rotary branding on the crown wheel of the movement. Haven't been able to find a maker's mark on the movement but it is quite nicely finished with perlage on the cocks and bridges. Some of the plating is wearing a bit thin but it is better finished than a later but still old Girard Perregoux that I own. Rotary was generally considered a step up in quality in the UK compared to many other brands. The Dreyfus family sold the brand to a Chinese holding company in 2014
Nice video. Rotary actually had some super nice sports watches in the past (divers and chronos) they do pop up in the vintage market from time to time. I always like them, no matter at what market level their watches were, they always seem to out some thought in what they produce and that matters a lot to me.
Huge well done for recognising the British heritage, and choosing a really nice watch. Rotary is a budget brand in the UK, and aren’t given a chance to shine, this is the first review of a Rotary watch I’ve ever seen. It’s interesting how you observe the second hand stutter; I feel that’s a feature of Rolex watches which I don’t like. 300m WR? Amazing. I’m sure the ‘average’ Brit will not understand or care for the movement, so Rotary probably went for the higher finish than superior internals. Thanks, great video.
It's definitely a solid offering for sure but why do they insist on using the 8215. There clearly must be tonnes of them for dirt cheap because everyone would rather have the seiko. What's even more annoying is miyota have a better replacement but this is still used. Anyways great work with the review and I actually like rotary, just not their choice of movement.
Great looking watch. Important they got the color match right on the dial/ bezel... So many watches come out that are mis- matched. Shame they can't get a hacking movmt. into these watches... Even my Seiko "Mecaquartz" hacks. If hacking isn't an issue, how can you go wrong at $300 for this?
Hi mate, I like watching your clips, and I did learn quite a bit and even bought watches after watching your channel… Spinnaker Avi8, Aragon etc… the only minus was Jomashop and the amount of time that they need to deliver 1 watch…I often buy one watch from a website as a trailblazer if I’m happy I keep buying. Well Jomashop lost me… keep up the good work. Really like your content
It's complicated was reviewing a watch the other day with a movement that was 13 years old, and the watch was supposed to be the latest release and over $500. Your review of this watch has that great wow factor. But $350, you say. Corgeut sells a watch with 8215, sapphire, ceramic bezel, and $100 bucks. Maybe I think about it if they put the 7s26 movement 🤔. NOT! Dave great review nonetheless, and that watch is nice & green. Love the color
Being a Brit I'm quite familiar with Rotary but wasn't aware of this model so I checked their website, they have definitely improved their line up. Whilst there I noticed a colab between Rotary & WatchNation on another diver called the Super7 . It looks very nice and comes with a Miyota 8205 and a choice of steel bracelet or a rubber strap. I checked the movement out and discovered that Miyota have added hacking to the 82 series!! However, I guessing due to lack or purchasers the past 2 years that the old non hacking movements are still being shipped and put into new watches. Oh and one last thing, I got my Scuba dude T shirt a few weeks ago. Can't wear it out now for fear of being labeled a Russian sympathiser :(
Thanks for another great video, Dave. I have yet to include a diver style watch to my collection and have been hunting for just the right one for several months now. Want to keep it under $500. This green Rotary caught my eye and like the looks of it, but the Miyota 8215 is making me hesitate.
I ordered this watch when it came up on Amazon, which includes grey market sellers. I probably got unlucky, but the stutter on the second hand was pretty bad. It was so distracting, I decided I would not enjoy wearing it and sent it back. But the solid feel and look of the watch was fantastic.
I bought a Rotary 7 and was not happy with it. The Customer Service at Watch Nation was tremendous. They were very responsive and sent me a prepaid shipping label to send the watch back to the UK from Ohio. That alone makes me want to give Rotary another try!
Rotary is very much a mainstream UK jeweler’s brand, which is a good thing for product support. I think this one was developed in conjunction with one of their bigger UK jewelers. It’s done really well for them and has received some well deserved praise online. Definitely worth its money if you can cope with the case thickness. Great review Dave as always.
Hey: I really appreciate your review. Very professional and on point. Keep it up. You are doing a great job! Of course there are watches you review that I will steer of but I still like the reviews. This Rotary looks great for what you are getting. And for a dive watch that is also a tool watch, not having a hacking seconds hands should not be that big of a deal. This watch looks like a bargain. I personally own a current Rolex Air King, three current Tudors, and an Omega Moon watch. I'm just stating this because I also own about 15-20 Seiko's and Micro Brands to boot. I like them all as long as they speak to me with design, decent craftmanship, and quality for the price.
Nice video Dave as always. I have a question if you don´t mint. Are the casio MR-G B500B at 4000 us dollars in Japan too? or the price is lower there? thanks
So we have a Submariner homage with different odd looking hands made in China with a Japanese movement for twice the price of exactly the same watch without the Rotary logo on the dial.
"HENLEY AUTOMATIC" on the dial really spoils the whole thing along with the green on green hour markers, that just not done using those particular shapes.
I live in England and Rotary has never been a brand I'd take seriously. For $350 there's a choice of Orient watches that are better made and have an in-house movement.
Miyota 8215 = the noisiest movement in the world. They've managed something no one could before. Turn a watch movement into a musical instrument. Hell, it's an orchestra.
That's a great-looking watch! I also love how your intros go, very stylish. BTW, what's the song you used for the intro? I like it too. Did you compose it, or did you buy it? If you bought it, from where? Thanks!
It's called "Lilac Skies" by Corbyn Kites. He made if available for free on TH-cam, you can hear the whole song here: th-cam.com/video/yp517FvrDpY/w-d-xo.html
I new someone will comment this before me, so I searched the comments for Pagani :D . This Rotary looks exactly like Pagani, even the pastel color and low-shine edges around indices are like copy/paste. Only hands are different.
Rotary don't have much profile in the UK. They haven't invested in the brand for decades. I don't mind the brand but I think of it as something my grandfather would have worn. You are buying into “Rotary legacy” far, far too deeply. The company once produced fine Swiss Made timepieces with the Reverso-styled Revelation being a signature model. But over the last decade or two, most, if not all, offerings are cheap China Made fashion junk. This diver offering might be better than average, but it really has no connection to the company’s “heritage.”
It's a blatant copy of an incredibly famous watch. Is that so normal now that we don't even have to mention it? Maybe your misgiving should have been reserved for the lack of creative input by Rotary and not the movement.
I'm from the UK, I collect watches and have quite a few from Rotary. I love them.
I was given a Quartz Rotary watch in my 20's as a birthday present. I still have it 30 years later and i still wear it.
Glad to see Rotary getting featured. I think they quite often get overlooked. I owned the Sherlock watch and loved it. Gifted it to my step daughter when her Citizen broke. She loves the show and now wears the watch everywhere. Excellent piece and review.

It's even in British Racing Green. Marvelous.

Rotary began life in Switzerland Dave - sorry if already pointed out!. Always had a soft-spot for them.
I own a Henley GMT and love it. I think Rotary is fairly underrated.
I've been seeing Rotary watches popping up on TH-cam videos and the one you've showcased is really different from what I've seen. The green dial looks really good.
Until I saw the movement, I was about to order. Sad place to cut costs.

Great video, James Bond's watch would not have a Miyota 82 movement
I like it a lot ! The hands are great however the lume on these is a bit strange. Does it feature a ghost p. ?
Great review as always. I am looking forward to the day when makers finally stop using non hacking and/or non hand winding movements.
Very similar to British racing green ,good detailed review ,very enjoyable as ever thank you
Very nice review. Like the deep green coluur too.

Some of the 8 series movements didn't get the hacking upgrade, the 8215 among them.

Nice to see a watch in British Racing Green. Looks good and at a reasonable price. Worth a shot and a damn sight cheaper than a Rolex.
Build and finish on the super 7 is exceptionally high. You can also actually buy one unlike a Rolex.
and you can actually buy one at retail
Killer value! Thanks for the review, Dave.
I'm loving the content. That's a really cool looking watch!
It's a nice watch, but I think the Submariner cues are a bit too on the nose for me.
Great informative review, thanks 👍
Once a swiss made brand years ago but now like most things they are made in china.....solid watch though, I have 2 rotary dress watches no problems
Great review, thank you

I agree. That movement is not ideal.
It really annoys me that Rotary doesnt have alot of watches that hack. And i love my rotaries but for the price range just go seiko movement
Pagani design pd-1645 that using 8215 cost only $70-75.At least give us Nh35 for $350

My bro got fake Rolex looks real . Lot of watches so big .I like rotary and a mate once said that a Rolex your wearing
Where are the new Rotary watches being made? who are they owned by? is this Rotary actually British?
Rotary is a Chinese brand. It’s not British. It used to be long time ago, but now it’s a Chinese brand.
Wouldn't touch Rotary with a bargepole especially with a Miyota 8215 at this price point.
