I wouldn’t get rid of the compressor if I was you. I use mine regularly to air back up my tires after I’ve aired them down. Sure gas stations have compressors but I’ve really got an allergy to paying $3-$5 to use a compressor for a motorcycle or bicycle tire 😅. I like you never had a flat tire in over 10 years but have used my tire repair kit on buddies tires several times. That being said I used to carry tubes on out of the way expeditions and never needed them until a week ago. I had a rear tire blow out on a forest road and I could stick my finger in the hole, fortunately 2 km from the pavement. Didn’t see anything that might have caused the blow out, no sharp rocks but may have been caused by loose gravel coming down a steep hill a couple of km’s before. The tire had less than 3,000 km’s on it so still basically new. I fortunately had roadside assistance with motorcycle coverage and located a MC shop at the next major town that had a tire of the correct size and type 90 km away. BCAA (same as AAA) sent a tow vehicle (within an hour!) and trailer and I was towed into the shop and they were able to mount and balance the new tire within two hours of arrival. I was prepared to change the tire myself if necessary in the shops parking lot. I was only charged for the 2+2 km of the tow for the gravel road portion (I though that was not great but it was just under $20 with tax) so if we had been significantly off road towing would not have been an option @3.85 a km in and out. Dirt highways are covered by roadside assistance towing but forest service roads are not. Something I previously was not aware of before this tire break down. I am going to add one tube back into my kit for future off-road trips but my roadside assistance paid for itself this year. Too bad I didn’t have tire coverage from the MOA but only the second flat tire in the last 20 years.
That's a great point. (airing down and back up anywhere). I've used it for that in the past. I have AAA Motorcycle in addition to the MOA Tire Coverage. I'm glad to not have to use them because it means I'm stranded somewhere far from home.
Adam, great to see you posting content still. Lost track of you for a while, always loved your videos and your input. Looking great! Hope all is well with you and yours.
FWIW I get the highway-speed-exhaust-sound-droning-tinnitus 5+ hours in with the stock exhaust too. (earplugs, schuberth helmet, etc. Both 1200 and 1250.) I think a very particular frequency is just being created somewhere and it just is the nature of the beast. So I guess keep enjoying the Akro and know you're not missing out on anything!
Thanks for the great overview Adam. Glad to hear that your trip was a success. If you contact Jesse Luggage there is an updated fix for the locking handle problem. Safe travels
Thanks Andrew! I’m at 205 now. Not looking to lose much more but I do need to keep building muscle so I can be a better rider and not hurt so much in the morning.
Very strange that your Garmin XT keep crashing. Might be a voltage issue? I have one on a super tenere and it’s been flawless. Never once crashed or hiccuped in any way. It just took a direct hit on a 200lb deer at 30 mph and didn’t even turn off.
Just bought the Chigee BMW play Adam, have to say with my route app or scenic i love it and for me a game changer vs traditional garmin, also more than a sat nav. Worth a look ..
I'm glad you're liking it. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable yet buying "no-name-chinese" stuff that connects to the internet via a data connection on my phone especially when it comes to tracking where I go and how fast I'm going. At least BMW and TomTom being EU based are governed by GDPR and other laws. Sending location data to china is a free-for-all.
Sooo glad I found your vids! Glad I got the J&H exhaust, so nice to be able to silence it on a trip! Would love your input on the KLIM badlands pro a3…..what temp range and how dd you layer
For this trip, 40 degrees to maybe 85? I prefer to be hot and sweating than cold and shaking so the Badlands suit works well. I brought layers, too so I have the Klim 1.0 base layers which aren't mesh and then I have merino wool mid-layers which I can throw on if it's below 50. Then above 70, I open all of the suit vents.
@@AdamChandler86 i think yours would be the old ones mine dont leak i should know i am very use to huge rain living in uk also i toured durope this year and they are water tight they have a rubber seal around the openings the mount system is bettwr the constructiin is really nice
Thx for the update and information about your experience. Please update about your valve check, I'm curious. I'm planning a similar trip next year (no Alaska or Canada) from Western VA. on a 16' R12GSA, so thanks for the great info and some realistic inspiration, not glamour and drama. Cheers, Kevin
I ride year round and at night. Days get shorter so I ride home in the dark. Up in New Hampshire, there are no street lights, no traffic and it's all dirt roads even on my commute home so I'm running high beams 50% of the time in fall months.
Ahhh the great problems of hard vs. soft 😂. I’m`just like the security of hard luggage and the fixed amount of storage. I say this with a brand spanking set of mosko bags never used 😢

Welcome back! Thanks for watching (again)

Thanks for sharing. I love the Akra in every situation except for really long saddle days.

That's great to know! I've applied lactate to those pivot bolts which has helped but obviously not the lack of locking.
It looks like you are dropping weight. Great job!

It's not a sudden restart though it's as if the device freezes up completely and becomes unresponsive for minutes before rebooting itself.

Adam, awesome as always and nice nice bike .
Thanks Sam!! I know you see a lot of these around England.
thanks. I see that the beveled front side of the panniers ... protect your legs in case of dabs .. good choice... legs don't have easy repair ..
Yep, that's an improvement they made with the "GS Pro" panniers to have a more tapered bottom.

I have bumot defender evo panniers i think they are better
I ran those for a season in 2017/2018 I think and I still had issues with them leaking but the price was right at least.

I had the same issue with the black dog foot pegs.. you ran the stock skid plate?
I'm using the AltRider skid plate. I just ordered a replacement spring kit from Black Dog. I am confident that will fix the issue.

Have a safe trip! Yeah, I just ordered everything I need Today for the 12,000 mile service but it'll be a month or so before the video is up.
What are your handguards?
Machine Art Moto ADVance Handguards. I like them.
Why so many lights? Did you ride at night often? Of course the northland doesn’t need lights in summer.

Tachform mounts for phone or camera, billet aluminum and tuff.
I will check it out, thanks!

Yeah, it's always plagued me. I do have another company building a special set for me of hard luggage. can't wait to show them off.
