    This video is an alternative to the Carveco Inlay wizard. It is a little unorthodox and need to pay close attention to Male portion and the fact that it will start at 0.2in deep. You need to go SLOW with a 15deg V bit.
    Conduct to roughing and clearing paths before the Vcarve. This way are only cutting on half of the bit and the other half is already cleared away.
    If you have fragile letters they may just break off in MDF. If you go slow and have some scrap hard wood I would just try that. If your letters are more block or solid a test in MDF should work just fine.

      I probably will reach out to you because even though your video made a lot of sense there’s something I’m not doing right and it’s not working, but I will keep playing with it

      @@Checkitfirst There are several things that could be messing you up.
      Are you using a Zero block or just a piece of paper?
      Are you using a V bit or taper ball nose?

    Wow. This was so helpful!!! Thank you so much for making. Just knocked out three inlays. I can't believe how clean they are following your instructions. Thanks again!!!

    Appreciate this video! I’d been trying to figure out the right settings for a 15 degree bit, the other settings I’d gotten from vids were based on a 60 degree bit, and I think the change in geometry is what was throwing things off. I’ll be anxious to get to the shop and try it with these settings. Thanks!

    Inches and mm , confused as I use mm, how can I do a test for a single letter? Thanks

    Wotcha Casey. If you’re still around? When I select the reverse start and finish depths (Carveco) as you demonstrated, there are no step downs when machining, the bit plunges straight down to the finish depth then cut from there….ouch. How do you get the bit to step down correctly?? Hope this finds you well.

      That’s actually how it’s supposed to be. Did you break a bit and what feed and speeds are you using? I’ve since switched bits to a 12.6deg tapered ball nose and don’t have any issues. I’ve never broke an 1/8in bit at the 0.2in either.

    Hi Casey, great video. How are you finding Carveco? I'm torn between buying Aspire and Carveco and would like to hear your opinion.

    • @caseythemaker
      @caseythemaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve, there are 3 levels of carveco. I have the lowest level which is maker. I think that maker is very simple to use and has a modern interface with very few limits. Making it superior to vcarve. Carveco (top level) is a very powerful 3d design software. This is a link to a group with people that will give you an honest opinion. facebook.com/groups/595634551185458/?ref=share

    Great tutorial Casey. Was able to make my first inlay with Carveco. Thanks man. Once question is on the clear feature. When you do it in the video everything outside of the M is removed. Great for inlays. When I attempt to do the clear it runs right through my vector image. How can I get the clear to go on the outside of the male inlay?

    • @caseythemaker
      @caseythemaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you see in my male inlay that I drew an offset and then a box around the entire piece. If you select the box and the offset. It will clear in between those two. DO NOT clear between the box and the main male piece otherwise you will not have you angled piece. Does that make sense?

    Thanks Casey. Can you explain a bit more about the offset toolpath you did on the M male part? You said it saves you time? Does that mean it is optional?

    • @caseythemaker
      @caseythemaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is sort of optional. The M is quite large and I only want to use the 15deg V on a small portion right up next to the M. With the Vcarve toolpath I only get to use 1 roughing bit to clear away waste. In this instance I want to use the 1/16th in endmill so that my Vbit has less work. Then I can clear all the waste outside of the offset with a 1/8in and 1/4in endmill.
      If you remove the offset it will work exactly the same as the small letters.

    • @caseythemaker
      @caseythemaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought about this for a bit if you use just a clearing toolpath and a vcarve toolpath you will need to use a decent size allowance so that the clearing tool does not cut in to the angled portion of the vcarve. I hope that makes sense
