  • Hey Guys! Lately I have seen a lot of comments and discussions from casual DCS World fans that are intimidated by the Mission editor in DCS World and need help with getting started with creating their own scenarios for how and where they want to fly on their DCS Maps with their DCS Aircraft!
In Part 1 of this video we will create a very simple, yet fun and functional strike mission in DCS using the F-16C Viper on the Syria map.
In Part 2 of this video we will fly through the mission and discuss how everything we built within the mission editor is coming together to influence the gameplay we are seeing around us in the cockpit.
I highly recommend you open your copy of DCS World and follow along and copy or build your own version of this mission as you watch the tutorial!

This was fantastic. I have never messed with the mission editor mostly because of another tutorial I saw that made it look incredibly difficult and frustrating.

I just got into DCS, and these 2 videos helped me more than most others out here. The little extra information you give, like reading the windsocks, really help a lot too. There are so many little things that you suddenly realize you don’t know about, right as you throttle up for take off.

Spud, thanks for these two videos, man! I got my cousin the F16 for christmas and was looking for a way for us to try formation flight and practice without joining a public server. Now I have an idea of how to set up practice missions and more!

@@Spudknocker yes I did. I do my own missions which are pants tbh so i learned quite a bit. Very easy to understand and follow. I flew the mission without watching part 2, then watched part 2 afterwards. Did what it says on the tin except I got fried by 2 Sam's because I messed up my harm deployment.

Back into DCS after a 7 year break !, yup that long. Back then, a small laptop, basic Logitech Pro joystick. Step forward to 2024, DCS has definitely improved, nice updates to some of the aircraft modules and maps etc. Grpahical improvements with DLSS if you use Nvidia as your GPU. Some of the older maps also could do with an upgrade in my opinion. And hopefully to some of the older aicraft too. I know Eagle Dynamics are working on some good changes ahead. Anyway, I have been picking and choosing over 20 TH-cam videos at least, to get me started. Believe you me, there are some extremely poor and a very mixed bag of DCS content creators on TH-cam !!. It took me a while to needle down the best choices. The learning curve in DCS is very steep !. Started with the full FA-18c aircraft module, so here I am today following every step of this mission creation editor tool and following your very steps. However there are some subtle changes since you made this video 2 years ago. Waypoints dont seem to use the "DP" or "SP" icons as you add to the map etc. Small changes here and there but mostly adheres to your editor way back then. Hopefull everything will work ok. So to end, your videos offer me an excellent level of help. Your detail and helpful explanations really nailed it for me. Much appreciated. I have subscribed to your channel and will continue to watch your DCS videos with interest. Thank you. (edit note : flying the FA-18c for this mission as I don't yet have the F16-Viper).

The ME needs a condition called "detected by unit ...". This would be necessary to create awesome low level insertion/strike missions. If the player manages to sneak in without being detected, he has to deal with way lower threat levels, otherwise he will face an alerted enemy. The AI of SAM systems or aircraft has to check if it can see the player anyway, so it would be easy for the engine to extract that info and let the mission creator make triggers using that info.
Right now, you can only work with trigger zones in which the player is not allowed to rise above a certain AGL level, which is a cheap workaround at best.

@@Spudknocker The nice thing about it is that it can be very complex if you want it to be, including full scripting and all that good stuff, but they also provide a lot of pre-made modules and options for lots of things

@@Spudknocker If my memory is not playing tricks on me due to old age (havn't played ArmA for a decade or so) but I think ArmA mission editor uses lua script for triggers and another fun stuff just like DCS.

Thanks so much for this series! I figured a bit of this out from a previous video of yours, I still don't know how to put in a FAQ and interact with it, but that is the least of my worries. I still need to learn a lot about just flying and utilizing weapons. For instance, I have no idea how you handed off coords to the JDAM's in this video...or were they pre-programmed? DCS has a pretty steep learning curve that I'm a the very bottom of still.

  • @jonridley

Do you need to set a victory condition ? Or is it just implied because you hit the targets?

  • @johnchristian664
    @johnchristian664 3 ปีที่แล้ว

ME: needs an "on Designate(d)" trigger. So you can set up triggers where flags can be generated to cause other effects. Such as when the MIG21's are designated they may turn cold.. or bug out based on their ROE's and Combat conditions. idk just think it would be interesting. designate a ground target.. SAM's start turning on.. Tanks move to another waypoint. I think there are limitless uses.

If you are using the F16, F18, etc... check you are on the correct radio freq. and make sure they have the correct weapons loadout.
Sometime you need to be somewhat "close" to the enemy, because some times your wingman can be very blind.
