I wish I could directly talk to you. I am new to picking, I watched all your videos religiously and now with my hand made bobby pin pick I got into my 6pin security medical grade opiate lock box in less than a minute after about 5 tries total and have done several regular pad locks. I do have one that I can't open but more on that later. While I have the floor I wanted to share (too bad no pics can be shared on here) my handy work.. I took a pocket knife that's shaped as a key .. the blade tucks under the teeth like a normal pocket knife and I've fashioned a pick out of it, leaving the fingernail notch to open the blade in tact, with my Dremel a perfectly shaped pick that works well. I took the black finish off and made it all shiny and smooth, and picks like a dream! It's my first actual pick too.. I just use a bobby pin usually but now I have the real deal .. hand made but still it's a pick and works well too.
I love LOVE this hobby. It's ALWAYS been on my mind since childhood, I dono why I've waited so long honestly.. it's great little hobby and I owe you a thanks brother cheers!

To me this sort of kit is a lot like the Thunderbirds. There's not much of a point to this imo when there are other sets that offer much better/more modern profiles in nicer steels for cheaper. But that's not the point as you've said. Conversely, 95 USD for what may as well be Chinese set profiles is a waste. I'm sure that all of them are perfectly usable, but they are not nearly as useful for a locksporter as one would hope.
For example, its tensioners aren't really ideal to use unlike a normal tensioner (the spring seems to make little sense because of how feather touch style stuff just doesn't give feedback too well in higher security locks which they're meant to be used on). The hooks are much the same. I just don't think that some perceived tensile strength increase from a spring can justify the loss of feedback you will get from the hook. Then you get a ton of kinetic rakes which, as I said before, aren't great with highsec. The hooks you get are fine I suppose, but the focus seems to be on low skill attacks with rakes that won't often work for a majority of locks.
Overall, a disappointing product in my eyes and one with a high price tag with very little justification other than its looks which seem to have been prioritised over function.

Aesthetically, they're interesting. As a locksmith, I'd love to show up to a lock out and pull these out just to observe the customer's reaction 😂
Very interesting to hear about his arrest for locksport. I vaguely remember hearing about that back in the day, but never knew it was him. Just the fact that his case ended up getting the law changed is something the community (especially in Italy) owes him a debt of gratitude for.

  • @bikkies
    @bikkies ปีที่แล้ว +12

Very interesting and quite thought provoking. My first thoughts were that the shank heights would be way too tall for my locks, and that there are some quite strongly expressed dislikes of feather style tensioners. However I like that they've not just churned out yet another generic pick set that looks like every other generic set. A little innovation is always good. Another thing that struck me is that, using these tensioners, counter rotation becomes very visible on camera. There could be a strong case for using those tensioners in training videos to show the concepts in an illustrative visual way. It is a great touch to be able to reverse the tensioner depending on whether you want bounciness or more resistance. Could I see myself getting this, as a tool hoarder? For the picks, probably not - too tall for me - but for the tensioners then it's a distinct possibility. Conclusion? Innovation drives the whole hobby forward and this is a big honking fistrul of innovation all in one rollcase. Great stuff.

I love this set. I ordered last year as soon as they showed up on Sparrow's website. The hooks look a bit extreme, but they work incredibly well. A full rotation of the Sparrows revolver using the pick Lock Noob is holding at 7:49 takes me under a minute. The rakes are nice too. The only thing I'd really like added is a slightly thicker tension tool. Great review, Lock Noob... I've been waiting for this one.

A very innovative and polarizing set. I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a first or only set for a starting picker. I do plan to pick up this set myself just to feel what Killermaru's tensioners are all about. Also, Sparrows did a great job with the case and with the set in general.

As I was watching, I remembered who those hands belonged to, and I've seen you open locks with pet supplies, beauty products, the cheapest Chinese picks, etc... I still don't know if they'd work for me, lol. Would like to know more about the differences between the two tension tools.

Okay, I'm ordering one of these sets as soon as I've got the cash. It looks like it was made for me as a total novice, I already have issues with overtensioning and forcing my picks. It'll be nice to have a kit that doesn't let me. Plus those kinetic rakes look a bit like bump keys, which are already magic to me, along with Lishi tools.

Love the design and work involved in there creation by Killermaru the handle design makes a lot of sense for feed back as does the tension tools and there design. Well, the tools look fantastic, for sure. I would almost not want to use them as they are so artistic. That, being said, I'll probably buy some down the road- it was the heads design more than the handles though I'm stoked about both aspects. Law Lock is another pick maker I want to try, as he has some original styles also. Thanks for the review. Surprised he doesn't have a short or even a medium hook? I used a diamond on my first set- after I broke all of them= I don't think I ever used it again, it just can't get deep set pins very well and all the locks I work on have a least 1 or 2 deep pins. Also surprised he has 3 rakes. Curious if the different ripple distances matter much? I have never really used a rake as intended, as I only work SFIC's- mostly, so I cantilever them almost exclusively, which works an ok amount of the time. I have the Polaris rake set and wouldn't use anything else. I don't rake much as it's success isn't as repeatable as using a hook, which I tend to stick to more, depends on how much time I have and the amount of exposure. If I have time and discretion to pick I try lots of different picks but most of the time i don't have that luxury, so I just grab either an i-core turning or regular one/ than usually work the lunatic or tron. If I'm dealing with a keyway lower down the alphabet= I'll bust out the SSDev's. Anywho, thanks.

Great looking stuff. But sadly if your picking locks like paclock or higher quality/difficulty than master personally I find you need much thinner profiles. That and comfort is the other biggest ask I have in picks . Plain metal , shrink tube I end up with painful dents in fingers. If the people who buy these are as good you then maybe they great but for amateurs that take awhile on tuff locks maybe hold off.

FI wish they'd sell singles. I'd have to try one out before spending so much on the whole set so I can see if it's more functional, or more of a gimmick.*

They work, but if you are new, stick with classic profiles first

Excelentes ferramentas embora,não parecam ter estabilidade nem suporte pratico de carga e volume,são mesmo muito criativas, porém meramente esportivas.

Soon as you see the hand made pick the sparrow collaboration picks just lose all appeal. I want hand made wave and city rak.

Cool tools, cool designs. But don't use a Masterlock to demonstrate, please. These things crap themselves and open immediately by just being looked at threateningly.

Looks too gimmicky to me, but to each their own.

These designs are so extremely useless! It may look cool but no more useful than any ordinary pick!

Have you tried any of these?
I am an experienced picker, and i can attest to the value of a springy, feather tension wrench.
If these wrenches help provide the light touch needed to bypass specialty security pins, then why are they useless?
And dont say that any experienced professional doesnt need fancy tools to do their job... cause we all know a real pro can do their job with anything, but a pro pro uses the best tools to make it easier and faster.
So i humbly ask why they are useless?
      Please elaborate?

I would say it’s just a matter of taste.

Man tried to pull off the "Its a nice gun i'll give you that. But the engraving gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever." but forgot about flexing your nice tools.
