I just love to see folks really having fun in their older cars and not putting them behind velvet ropes with marque hype! Keep racing and rocking that ponton!!!!
They are very stable actually with 4 wheel independent suspension, power assisted finned drum brakes and although the bodies will appear to roll a lot more than modern cars you can drive them very fast on winding roads. I chased one in 1970 through the alps in a Mk2 jag and had trouble keeping up.....I have seen plenty of wrecked ones with front damage but no roll overs.
the original engine is very strong and the cylinder head can be swapped with one from a W111 230S to give a lot more power . The 219 Ponton fitted with a high compression head and diesel rear axle is rated by the factory at 175KPH Vmax.
He upgraded the brakes to power assist.. I have a 1959 190 and it loves the windy road of New Mexico. It is a show car , Concourse De elegance winner .

Ok rallying a ponton is a thing
