The public and the press were looking towards December 8, 1982 with great expectations, when the compact-class saloons Type 190 and 190 E were presented. These models did not replace previous types, but completed the traditional Mercedes-Benz passenger car program by a third main line. The new range of models was characterised by more compact measures, reduced weight and increased economy without making any compromises as to handling performance, safety and reliability.
Minimised energy consumption was reached by using high-strength sheet steel and other weight- reducing materials as well as by aerodynamic optimisation. Passive safety had been the reason for providing series 126 with a forked beam in the front end. With this design principle also the compact-class vehicles fulfilled the criterion of an asymmetric head-on impact with 40 % overlapping and 55 kph. Thus the 190 models were absolutely as safe as the big S-Class saloons.
Excellent handling performance was made possible by newly developed front and rear axle constructions. The damper strut front axle with individual A-arm suspension and anti-dive device guarantees a good straight-running stability. Its low overall height created favourable conditions in the engine compartment. A revolutionary novelty was the multilink rear suspension, in which each rear wheel is led by an independent control arm. This optimal wheel control largely compensates lateral and longitudinal forces at all driving conditions, thus avoiding unwanted steering movements of the wheel. Further advantages of this innovative construction are its low weight and the little space it takes.

The 190d was my first car. Given to me by my father after it was our family car for many years. He had it imported from portugal. By the time i was ready to move on to my next car it had 280k miles on it and was running great. it ended up being sold to another young man who converted it into into a bio diesel 190. That was 4 years ago and im confident that its still going strong today. Much love for the 190!
I knew a guy who got this car second hand in the early 90s. He drove the car daily and maintained the car regularly. The car outlived him and it is now being driven by his son.
my first car that i drove.. a masterpiece, extremely well built.. here in Albania we still have a lot of those cars still going strong ..
sadly Mercedes doesn't make cars like this anymore.. nothing produced today will last this long..

Der 190er hat mir schon immer gefallen. Unserer bekommt dieses Jahr endlich sein H-Kennzeichen. Immer wieder schön anzusehen.
I love Bruno Sacco era Mercedes-Benz, W201 and W124 were ahead of their time.

The 201 and 124 models were literally designed to last forever
Now I see why some rumours say the development of just the rear axle of the w201 alone cost ~ 100 Million DM, an insane amount back in those days. The rear axle was called "Raumlenkerachse" which was and still is very special. The 5-link suspension allows the wheels to travel only in an up and down fashion, so the caster-, camber., and toe-alignments stay the same in each possible suspension-travel postition, which ensures excellent handling.
Amazing cars I have just purchased my 3rd after making the mistake earlier in the year buying a newer c200 broke down after 6 months so back to the 190s just the most solid and reliable every day car. So comfortable.
I'm at 480k miles
I have been driving my 190 2.2L diesel since 1987. Engine has had no work needed: great compression. Maintenance was designed to be easy. Amazing suspension, handling, brakes, fuel economy. Great quality of interior materials. Third auto transmission is the price to pay however, for my 300,000 miles (so far). The best commuter car ever built, I feel.
I have the very same model/year! :) It ain't my daily commute car anymore, but i still drive it as a backup car or just for fun. My only problem is rust on the sils:(

I still have 84, 190 as back up, enjoy driving it even more than my 202
buy a manual trasmition ,and you´ll save a lot of money,i own a 2.0L gasoline engine with automatic transmition and had some problems ,this a 83 model,later i bought a diesel 2.5L with manual transmition from 94,and still today i´m waitng to see when this 700.000 km´s car will need maintenance,regards
As a huge BMW fan i have to say this car is amazing in every way possible. I would own W201 over any other car. Beautiful machine.
Die erste am Rechner konstruierte verstrebte Hinterachse überhaupt. Für damalige Zeit ein Meilenstein im Fahrzeugbau. Auch so steht das Fahrzeug mit mehreren Dutzend Neuentwicklungen mehrfachen der Geschichte des Automobilbaus. Allein schon der Scheibenwischer war eine unglaubliche Leistung.
Können Sie erklären, was sie mit „verstrebte Hinterachse“ meinen? Habe es gegoogelt aber nichts gefunden. Finde es sehr interessant!

Ich habe dieses Auto vor kurzem von einem Rentner gekauft in einem sehr guten Zustand. Das waren noch Autos . 32 Jahre aber der fährt wie neu . Einfach nicht zu glauben

My father 190D done 1.5milion km until the motor head got too much corroded and start consuming water/oil. That engine still works if the head got a rectification.

190ый и Ауди 80 по качеству были одинаковы просто мерен распиарен был сильней !Да и сегодня Ауди 80 на дорогах а мерс190ый их почти нет !!! как то так
@@Rustam655 Машины хоть и равного качества, но абсолютно разные по конструктиву. 190-е многие за эти годы банально поразбивали, а 80-ку брали в основном люди постарше и поспокойней.
@@Rustam655 Но мерс стоил в полтора раза дороже. Ауди 25 тысяч марок, мерс 39. Ауди тоже хороша. Я посмотрел сколько в СПб немцев до 90 года в продаже - Ауди и Мерс примерно одинаково, Фольсваген чуть побольше - но и завозили их больше тк физически их очень много. Дожили из старых как раз ВАГ, Мерс, Бэха почемуто только пятерка е34. Остальные БМВ, Форды, Опели, прочие иномарки кудато пропали

Bin absolut kein Mercedes-Fan, aber dieses Auto war einfach nur unschlagbar gut. Die rollenden Computer von heute wird in 20 Jahren niemand mehr fahren, mit einem 190er kann man sich auch heute noch sehen lassen.

be glad you bought a 212. many of the other models are just shite! i my self have a w212, e250cdi 4matic, 4 seather. i love it. i know alot of People who Works With and in Mercedes co, so w212 was a Natural Choice. w212 is bulletproof :-) just like the good old ones, only 212 don't rust

У меня знакомый немец кнут дедлофф ехал на 190-стике из Ленинграда в Таллинн в 1996 и перевернулся около Кингисеппа на скользком шоссе , местные жители - мужики, помогли его вытащить из кювета и он погнал дальше

the W126 big brother of the same design series was IMHO the most regal of mercedes benzes. I used to have a straight six 280s of 1986 vintage, it was a joy to drive and be driven. lasted 35 plus years, had to forgo it because of regulatory hassles

I had car accident and i hit a wall at speed of 70km/h dmg was minimum,only front bumper was destroyed.
I fixed car and its same again,car can easy reach speed of 180 with no issue

Полность согласен. Я являюсь счастливым обладателем этой машины 1991 года выпуска. На спидометре 325 тыс.км., но ни одной поломки, на кузове не одного рыжика. Ни за что не продам мою красавицу. Я мечтал о ней давно, долго искал и ,наконец-то, нашел. Автомобиль в отличном состоянии, словно только сошел с конвеера. Впечатления от езды невероятные, одно наслаждение.

I bought a silvergrey 1992 Mercedes 190E 2.0 automatic in 2010. It still is my daily driver. Has 280.000 km on the clock. Very reliable car (but not completely trouble free). Very easy to drive thanks to its wonderful automatic gearbox, small dimensions, excellent steering/brakes and rigid bodystructure. Seats are a bit firm though.
My dad just sold a 1986 190 for $6,000. This car is a beast!

My faithful 190 ... so many nice memories with it:) i don't want to sell it nor send it to the scrapyard. last week it started right away after 6 months of being parked. It just has to much rust, so i don't know what to do

В капитализме делается все только ради денег, просто в то время немцы-дураки не догадались, что дешевле делать ломучее дерьмо, а зарабатывать на запчастях. В современных мерседесах ПЛАСТИКОВЫЕ детали в двигателе, якобы для снижения веса. ПЛАСТИК! Внутри двигателя!

この年代のベンツのsクラスに祖父が乗っていました。珍しいクリーム色で新車で購入したそうです。すでに私が生まれた頃には祖父は亡くなっていてベンツはずっと車庫の中に形見として眠っていました。何回か修理して両親が乗っていたのですが、初めて私が乗った時は乗り心地のよさと質感の高さで圧倒されました。今はもうなくなってしまったのですがとてもいい車でした。私もこういう車に乗れるような人になりたいです。

I Love the 190´s I got one with only 97000Km from 1992.
The awesome thing is, its not important how many kms it ran, it runs forever! My 190D has 567.000km with absolutely no problems
