Great video. Had mine fixed last week. Was leaking in the drivers side I had no idea. Bought the car last spring and was likely leaking little bits for years. It rusted out my floor pan. Put a new pan in and found source of the leak which was just as you showed in the video. The foam was sticking out around the door trim. My local auto glass shop got it caulked and fixed up. No more leaks.
Your video was unintentionally helpful to me in a different way, I just got done restoring my faded out cowl panel and windshield wiper arms and noticed about mid way my cowl was lifted off of the windshield, and at 5:34 I can see yours is as well so I guess I never noticed that that's how it sat until now, I also didn't know about those 10 or so grommets I just knew about the 2 rubber grommets at the bottom that look like the door drain grommets
If u dont want to take the wipers off you can turn them on til they're in the up position and that will allow you to take the cowl vents out. Also, excellent video... thanks for the info... I have an 08 GT/CS.
@@Stangaddiction thanks bro! I got lucky with it. It only had 40,000 miles and it's the grabber orange which I'm really happy with. I've done a ton of mods to it. Getting ready to install fender vents next week!
Mine was definitely a problem with that narrow vent under the cabin filter getting jammed with leaves. I had this happen at least twice. I put wipers in the middle, removed the grommets and the wiper cowl between the hood and the windshield. This time I took some needle nose pliers and removed that narrow black thing. You know you solved it if you can dump waterhouse on that reservoir and it goes straight through.
Thank you! I have an 06 and just recently after a car wash I got a major water leak on the passenger side of the car. Now I know how to fix it without taking it to a shop. You rock!
Also do you know of any videos showing how to do this? I'm determined to learn to care for my mustang myself but don't have a lot of experience with this kind of thing. Thanks!
This will fix it!! Happy you found this. I explained the door trim, just carefully pull out the rubber piece, then you will see the yellow screws you need to remove in the plastic pieces. Once that’s off, caulk it. The trim under the windshield wipers is hard to explain. But take the wipers off or put them in an up position, and pull the plastic covers up off the window and caulk all the black rectangular grommets that hood it down
I had a similar experience with my 4.0 s197, it would leak like a sieve into the floor and onto the electronics..but now it's bone dry. I replaced a missing cowl grommet, and sealed every cowl grommet with weather-proof silicone caulking. Also, I had to reseal the body seals along the passenger lower cowl drain for yet another leak. Took the fender off for good measure and sealed every body seal behind the fender while I was at it. This solved the majority of my leaking problems, but I also discovered that in heavy rain, the window seals would allow a slow drip to the floor-pan. Couldn't find the foam window seals for less than $80, said fuck that, and just filled the gaps cleanly with black silicone. Was extremely bothersome to track down the few leaks but now it's all good. I think the car had every leak discussed in the associated TSB published by Ford.. The S197's are fun cars but were not built to last apparently Edit: Forgot to say, I also had leaky body seals along the trunk, both sides. Sealed those as-well and this car is officially water tight
Hey brother would you be able to to put a video up of your repairs. I would like to fix everything you did. I mean if it wouldn't be too much trouble. I'm doing this videos repair today. *fingers crossed*. Thanks for the video StangAddiction
Yes my 06 had the same issue was not the cowl drain plugs but was definitely the window trim moldings. The foam had failed and was slipping out of place almost along the entire trim piece. Just like you I was not going to put it back together with cheap foam tape it's going to fail again so after I peeled, scraped, and sanded I used some 3M automotive strip caulk which remains flexible and pliable but won't deteriorate.
My situation is the tree debris going inside the hood vent, thus clogging the drain holes. I'm going to glue a screen on the inside of the vents, blocking any debris from going inside.
Awesome! I fixed my leak however the car won’t start now. Dried it out. It’s been well over a month. I have power. Everything works (windows, lights, radio, etc.)but it will not even attempt to start or turnover. Not even a click. Any ideas? It started and ran PERFECTLY before the water leak.
@@deathrager2404 Nah. Pissing me off. I don’t know if I would have bought this car had I known that in the beginning. However if you know about it in advance, you can easily prevent it. If I even had a clue I could have popped the trim off of the door jam and checked for rust under the carpet.
hi i have a 2013 mustang, my rear driver foot well is wet at the center corner, everywhere else is dry not sure where its coming from. Can these floor pan rust? Well removing seat alone be enough to lift these floor carpet up?
2006 mustang had rain pouring in from the vent being full of dirt. There are two little rubber stopper under the hood, they squish and come right out, emptying all of the what and squish right back in . no need to take anything else off.
Have you ever had a headliner leak? A few days ago, a really bad thunderstorm hit my area and the rain was torrential. I went out the next morning and my headliner from the backseat had sunken in, the backseats were dry but how do I fix the headliner? I tried using flex-seal on the inside but it didn't work. If anyone knows please help. Also thanks for an informative video
It never filled with water in the cabin.. but it builds in the trunk.. Condensation does build up on the back window.. Haven't seen any sitting water other than the trunk.. So.. Just trying to figure it out.
Left tail light, leaking water from a soldering point on the frame. Easy fix, the leak is on the enclosure that holds the tail light, on the upper ledger and you can easily seal it with permaseal or rubbering insulator.
You should have shown us when you were doing the repair so we could know exactly what to do to and how to fix the problem... just talking about it is ok but, showing is better
That's not where it comes from buddy. Water builds up due to rubber boots in the bottom of the trough the windshield wiper motor sits in. It's made to open when water drains in there but debris clogs this drain and it builds up til it over flows into the car usually on the drinkers side into the kick panel where alot of electronics are. This causes multiple problems. As well as the windshield wiper motor shorting. Remove those rubbers and toss em. And I'd you live around trees, clean the leaves out once in awhile
I have the same problem never seen anything like it. When its leaves or dirt or snow clogging the windshield drain it goes on the passenger floor😅. I clean it out and it stops simple.
The leak typically happens on the passenger side! Your SJB is on the passenger side right below where the water leaks. So when it leaks it pretty much will fry your interior fuse box over time. That’s what happened.
I had take carpet up and caulk the sidewalls on driver and passenger sides in my 00 GT. Water would only pool behind the driver side seat. In my 14 GT There are no leaks at all
Joseph Bentley at all? On my 14 Base model V6 I keep having water in the passenger side behind the seat and a little in front , I have no idea what to do to fix it so it stops
Same!! Mine is a 2005 also and I’m ready to quit having to deal with the problem. Ford should have to fix it as many people that have problems with it.

Have you had any issues with the passenger seatbelt being wet when extended?
Also the cabin air filter cavity there is a rubber nipple in the bottom need to clean that out or remove it holds water too...
I removed it, seemed useless after two or three events dumping water in my carpet
That is not smart to remove that rubber piece that keeps carbon monoxide out of the cab... just clean it once a year
