My favorite since I was 14,am now 82. Went to 20 or so of his concerts. He should be honored at the Kennedy honoree program. He is a national treasure. There is no voice such as his , very distinctive. Bless the Lord for giving us Mr Mathis.

Johnny Mathis was true to himself. Accepting his personal life being the most poignant of how it affected him deeply. Having such a wonderful loving, supportive father helped him have acceptance in his personal life. Coupled with such a wonderful family and home life. And his father being open with the demons that Johnny struggled, facing
his sexuality. This made Johnny feel that he was no different than anyone else, who had preference to a relationship which was homosexual. This was stereotyped and stigmatised in the 1950’.s. Johnny had the most incredible smooth voice, his first song was Blue Heaven that he would sing to visitors who came to visit at his family home. He could also play the piano. Johnny’s superb voice would be described as a middle tenor his highest notes, to warm lower notes. Johnny could also sing falsetto, his highest notes sang in unbroken tenor tones. His rise to fame gave him some unforgettable hits such as , Chances Are, Misty, When Sunny Gets Blue, Wonderful!. Wonderful!. Too Much Too Little Too Late just some of his most famous songs. At the age of 13 Johnny had a voice coach Connie Cox, not having any money to pay for lessons, Johnny would repay her, by helping her around the house, to thank her for or teaching him. He studied with her for 6 years and this really helped him to sing a wide range and have a pitch perfect voice. He preferred to drop Johnny and be called John. He had a Phenomenal career that has spanned six decades. Who couldn’t fall in love with his golden voice?. I think my most favourite song is I’m On The Outside Looking In. And my favourite duet was John singing with Deniece Williams, Too Much Too Little Too Late. John

It's been wonderful to watch this video. Ever since I was 13 or 14 years old, I fell in love with his voice and his music style. That was back in 1959, when Johnny sang A certain Smile as part of the soundtrack and appeared in the movie with the same title. Throughout my 79 years of age, I have cherished this great human being named Johnny Mathis. I missed seeing him live in London, because the show happened to be sold out and that was my last day in the City. That was the only time I could have had the opportunity to see him perform live. How wonderful to learn that he had the support of his father on his LGBT journey. Not many of us have been so lucky. Thank you so much for posting this video and best regards to Johnny, from one of his many fans around the world, now living in Venezuela.

I always loved the music of Johnny Mathis. He is a great man, a very talented Artist. I would never pass judgement on his sexuality because that s his private life. I never thought of him as having sad eyes. I think it is wonderful how his father encouraged him in his career and how both of his parents were very supportive of him. He is indeed blessed.

It was in 1955, I was in eighth grade I first heard Mr. Mathis on the radio. I have been n loved with him and his music since age thirteen.
I was blessed to hear him in person at a concert in Atlanta, and two occasions at NJPAC.
The next morning afterwards, I was on my way to New York. It was my wildest dream to meet him in person at Newark Train Station, Newark, New Jersey.
The city should have placed a plaque on bench, stating, Johnny Mathis sat here. I thank God for the encounter.
