+rhymingwithoranges You know what though, you have a very USA/ English language slant on it. When I've studied film it's always been foreign, and thus some of my favourites are not USA or English language. Can I give you some DVDs?
I wouldn't mind hearing your list. Just please god don't put L'vventura on the list. Wanted to hang myself in my Cinema class because I thought L'vventura was almost over but that feeling of 2 hours was actually only like an hour and I still had another hour plus thirty minutes to go with the film. That was torture.
Breakfast Club, Gone Girl, Kill Bill vol 1, Grand Budapest Hotel, 21 Jump Street, ferris bullers day off, Perks of being a wallflower, American Beauty are my favourites.
+sadie lester yooooo no shit??? do you know any secrets behind the filming process??? i LOVE that film ive watched it so many times tell your uncle hes absolutely brilliant
Hey Jack, have you ever heard of The Worst Idea of All Time podcast? For season 1 they watched Sandler's Grown Ups 2 every week for a full year. For season 2, so far they've watched Sex and the City 2 about 30 times this year, and I think it's beginning to break their sanity.
My sister and I have probably watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist a million times. We could say any line from that movie and immediately crack each other up and it makes me so happy. I've gotta give credit to Peter Pan for shaping my psyche as a child and continuing to affect me throughout my growing up (and lack of growing up) experience, it will always be near and dear to me. I'll never get tired of The Breakfast Club, Clueless, She's the Man, John Tucker Must Die, 13 Going On 30, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Can't Buy Me Love, Footloose, Dead Poet's Society.. So many films that I could watch over and over.
oh god one of the best! it feels so nostalgic to me in terms of the typical Britishness that this movie is so subtly littered with? idk if that makes sense but something about it just oozes loveliness, and passion and you can tell that so much went into it to make it affect the audience in the way it does. one of my all time favourite movies, and I think it will be forever
it gets repeats on TV so much that I'm kind of sick of it now. Plus it has the whole posh, shy but intelligent young man gets woman but loses father in bittersweet tale of grief and love. Why is the guy always posh? Whenever it's a working class guy (or heaven forbid a black guy) he has to have some sort of drug abuse or financial issue problem that leads to relationship ruin OR in the case of the latter he has to be funny and crack jokes all the time. It's the type of film that worked in the 1980s but I think we should move beyond the soppy Sixteen Candles/Dirty Dancing rom-coms to something new.
Ratatouille was my first eye opener to movies as a whole from story to script to direction. It's one of those movies that i watch or put in the background like an album and i would talk along with it.
I personally love the film Juno. just everything about it is fantastic, the soundtrack, the actors, the story (obviously), and you can never go wrong with Michael Cera.
I actually think How to Train Your Dragon is a seriously brilliant film and deserves far more praise than it gets. I think film enthusiasts are scared to admit how good some animated films are because they feel like they don't "count."
Animated films are still recognised by most film makers, I'm not entirely sure but it seems a lot of the time it's the film enthusiasts who dismiss animation as being for children which is a real pity. I haven't made a list but some of the contenders for top places in the favourite films list would definitely be reserved for animated films. Studio Ghilbli and Pixar especially.
+Jakeshapedworld HtTYD is perfect. I mean literally perfect. Watch that film and look for one unnecessary scene, you won't find it. Literally ever scene is important and stands to the cohesive whole. Fucking perfect. Also one of the few that still after so many times gets the heart racing and hoping beyond hope they succeed, even knowing what'll happen.
Honestly Jack,I feel like Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, really spoke to me on a more personal level. The same has to be said with That's my Boy, Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties and above all Bee Movie. These are all revolutionary pieces of modern cinema. I think if we really think about it. We're all just Bees that sound a lot like Jerry Seinfeld. #MarkKermodeGotNothingOnMe
I'm obsessed with the opening scene of the social network, my friend did it for an audition and I ran it with him so many times that I learnt Rooney Mara's lines by hear
I'm a film student so I'm super critical now of every film I watch lmao. But my favourite films have to be Ever After (definitely #1), The Strangers, Amelie, The Shawshank Redemption and La Vita e Bella (Life Is Beautiful). That last one I just recently watched and I DEFINITELY recommend it to you Jack, and anyone reading this. Amazing video as always :)
Dude, Strangers is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. I understand it's not great, but I feel the hate it gets makes it look like an offensively bad movie, I thought it was fun.
I watched la vita e bella in Italian class at school and I laughed and cried and it was an absolutely beautiful movie fantastically made with amazing characters and themes. Loved it.
I've been watching youtube videos for 6 years and this is the first time i've ever commented on one- wanted to voice an opinion for once. Favourite films: Annie Hall, 10 things i hate about you, moonrise kingdom... Lion king and back to the future are definitely up there too. Classics.
These are me favs by far: - A Clockwork Orange 1971 - UP 2009 - Birdman 2014 - Me, Urle and the Dying Girl 2015 - 2001: A Space Odessey, 1968 - Inside Lywen Davis, 2014 - Moonrise Kingdom, 2014 - The Royal Tenenbaums, 2002 - Life Aquatic With Steve Izue, 2005 - The Wind Rises, 2014 - The Science of Sleep, 2006 - Howls Moving Castle, 2004 - Its Such a Beautiful Day, 2012 - About Time, 2013 - Spirited Away, 2001 - Lost in Translation, 2003 - Boyhood, 2014 - Indiana Jones Raiders of the lost ark - Goodfellas - Hugo
@@Filozofu ik you didn’t ask me but personally it’s The Darjeeling Limited Why? I find the way the narrative slowly reveals truths about the characters using their relationships with each other, incredibly smart and well done. What’s your favourite and why?
The Princess Bride is, I think, my all time favorite. I never get tired of watching it, I've got 3 copies of it so I can lend it to others. It is a movie that has something for everyone, and it stands the test of time. I also love 10 Things I Hate About You, 1776, Shaun of the Dead, The Outsiders, Spice World, and so many more I absolutely love movies.
+Elizabeth Wright The Princess Bride is one of the best! Definitely the one that hits me in the childhood the hardest. Considering I never watched the lion king as a kid it's probably my equivalent.
I love what you said about The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin's writing has always been my favourite in terms of film and television, have you seen Studio 60? :) And I totally agree with you on Back To The Future - it's such an incredibly entertaining film; I've seen it countless times and I still enjoy it. I genuinely think it's perfect, too!
+JackHoward I can't pick a favourite Sorkin piece, but since no ones mentioned the Newsroom yet, have you seen that? Jeff Daniels is wonderful in it too, but it's that script, he is by far my favourite writer and I like you wanna make films. Good list Jack
+JackHoward Maybe you have already covered this in a video but how big a fan of television are you? Because I would personally love to know your favourite TV shows and your thoughts
Coraline is my favorite movie by far. every time I watch it it feels like the first and I just find it so artistic and brilliant that if someone hasn't seen it, I have to watch it with them right then and there.
I pretty much agree on most of the things you said and films you named. I especially agreed on the filmmaking part, like how watching a film and get disconnected from the process of making the film or the aesthetic/director's choices gets really difficult when you are a filmmaker yourself. To the ones you mentioned (The Dark Knight, 2001: Space Odyssey, Her, The Social Network and so on) I would add Clockwork Orange, I just love the story and the way in which Kubrik decided to portray it. I actually love most of Kubrik's stuff (Eyes Wide Shut for example), together with Cronemberg's and a lot of Aronofsky's. In fact, I cannot not name Requiem for a Dream, for example. I did a whole essay on the aesthetic of this film and I swear it never fails to amaze me. The editing and the acting is just... perfect. Another one is Black Swan. Then Shutter Island and Memento, as well. The time-inverse editing is a very thrilling way of making the story even more intriguing. I generally love the films that leave you with a lot of questions and challenge you (as long as they actually make sense). Mr. Nobody is very unknown but I absolutely loved it and I very much suggest you to watch it as well, if you liked Donnie Darko (film I was about to mention between my favourites anyway), you have to watch it. I loved Ex-Machina, a quite recent one I was invited to a screening of. V for Vendetta is another one I will definitely never get tired of re-watch. From my childhood I will always remember Mulan and Emperor's New Groove, my favourite Disney films. Then Ratatouille, Tangled and Dragon Trainer more recently. Obviously when I have to name them I always forget a half, good job me, but I felt so close to the cause I just wanted to comment. Also, I haven't seen a couple you named yet, just heard of them, so I guess I'll have to watch them sooner or later!
+doyouknowellie I need to watch Ex-Machina. I keep hearing such good things about it. Also need to throw my hands up and admit that I haven't seen A Clockwork Orange. I'll get on that.
Watching the lion king at the west end made me cry too at the opening scene! I literally didn't realise how much I loved it until I watched it live either, it's so weird how that happens ha!
Now You See Me. It's brilliant honestly. There's plenty of mistakes but I saw it so many times in the theater just because I loved seeing new people react to the ending. That movie still makes me smile whenever I watch it, instant good mood.
Jaws is actually one of my most favourite films, I just love everything about it. Normally, I start to loose concentration when films go on for longer than an hour and a half, but this film just captured my attention from beginning to end. It held the perfect amount of tension, keeping me on edge without over doing it. The soundtrack is just simply incredible, it really captivates the emotions of the film. I love the way it's like it's spilt into two acts, introducing the problem, and then the solution. It's so simple, just still complex enough to keep it interesting. The camera shots and editing and just general style of directing are just spot on, really makes me geek out as a media student, analysing the scenes but in a completely enjoyable way.
I can't say that I have seen a lot of the classics, to be honest, I might just be too mainstream- when it comes to movies. Inception was breathtaking, Gone Girl was exceptionally well made, Shutter Island was thrilling yet mind wobbling- it kept me on the edge of my seat in a different way. The Breakfast club was classic, memorable, Mulan is important(to me); for many reasons. First of all it brings out a LOT of nostalgia, second of all it is in my opinion, one of the best disney movies, Mulan is different from all the other disney princesses-- in a good way. I was never a fan of Lion King the movie, but the musical in the West End did make me cry. Silver Linings Playbook was beautiful and raw. And of course, the Harry Potter movies- well loved, indeed.
+Emilie Goldhahn I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT SILVER LININGS I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH AS IT'S ACTUALLY ACCURATE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH YET STILL FUNNY MIRRORING THE SILVER LININGS CONCEPT.
I enjoyed this video so much and I'm very glad you stopped PMS, I really liked it but I prefer you talking about movies and random things you love. And let's make a video about "From Hamlet to The Lion King" lol. It's in my top two favourites, along side Only Lovers Left Alive, you gotta see that, man. It's brilliant.
i remember being literally shocked for 3 days after watching Interstellar. and just that soundtrack in my head...it is also SUCH a good film that you don't want to see it again ykwim
+illmakeuhowell Hans Zimmer will get you every time. He also did the soundtrack to the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception. Time from Inception makes me cry, haha.
My list: Dead Poets' Society, Law Abiding Citizen, Se7en (yay!), Mulan, Les Mis, 500 Days of Summer (despite the obvious MPDG), 10 things I hate about you, Legally Blonde, the Breakfast Club, and Pitch Perfect :D
+Harshita Narasimhan Hannah Witton recently made a video talking about the MPDG trope and talked a little bit about why 500 days of summer actually criticizes it. Worth checking it out if you're interested :)
Lemonade Mouth. I feel like it's underrated, but I feel a strong connection to one of the characters and the storyline as a whole. I want to talk about movies more on my channel. thank you for creating, Jack!
YO YO LEMONADE MOUTH YES OMG YES OH YES JUST YES also it was based off a book but the movie is better because it takes out all the raunchy kinda weird parts to try and make it "relate to teens" i dunno the movie was just rely good and feel good and nice made me happy
when you said that people's favorite movies are usually ones that have some effect on them I immediately thought of The Double. I still feel the exact same way when i watch it as i did the first time, which i think is very rare.
I know it's not a film but recently I've been watching Sherlock and the cinematography in that is outstanding and they way it was obviously thought about deeply but not over-done. Also the script is funny at the right times and the thought that has been put into the characters is fabulous!
+Daisy Carter-Rice nope it is defiantly the perks of being a wallflower! It is almost entirely perfect!! It's funny and philosophical and I think Logan Lerman was the perfect Charlie and Ezra Miller was the perfect Patrick! I feel there wasn't all the info on his family like there was in the book which would have explained it a lot more and would have bonded Charlie to his family more then they were. The music is incredible but they missed out a lot of music from the book like when Sam introduces Charlie to Smells Like Teen Spirit and the tunnel song wast originally Heroes.
I live where most of pride is filmed and I loved it Welsh accents were weak at times but such a good story and one of the best British films in the last couple of years
I haven't seen that many films but I think in terms of comedy, dodgeball and team America are the best. I also love the film Juno, it makes me cry and I still can't quite work out why but it does, every single time I see it
honestly there are so many films I love but my favourite at the minute has to be the imitation game. the soundtrack, the direction, the acting, for me it's all there. the portrayal of alan turing in that film is so heart wrenching and emotional, and the final scene, especially the very end with alan switching off the light on christopher, is the most beautiful metaphor I have seen in a film to date. it's also made better for me by the fact that it was a true story, because I feel like it's really difficult to make a good film that's based on fact. I'd definitely recommend it.
Might have to finally watch The Social Network now then. As for my favourite film I genuinely don't have one, since I fall into the trap of saying the last good film I watched is my favourite.
Yes! No energy from my long comment. I hope I remember to come back to this. The acting work on display alone blows me away. Along with structure. And montage design. And freaking Bill Murray lumbering clumsily through the compact cityscape of Tokyo.
+Grace Parkin Oh my god I got shivers and nearly cried just reading your comment. Seriously Lost in Translation is such a great movie. It's got the most wonderful atmosphere, Scarlett Johansson is beautiful and adorable as always. And oh my Bill Murray is just the best. For me it creates this sort of notion that Tokyo is largely undiscovered, that however many places the two main characters go, there's always something new. There's always more to see and experience. And they find their much needed peace in each other. That's my thoughts, at least. I'm going to go cry now
+Achw3l I just love that it's essentially a film about nothing. Just two people struggling and trying to find themselves in a strange new culture. It's so refreshing to have a film in which the two main characters don't get together or have a traditional "happy ending".
Here's my top 10 favourite films: 10. Wolf Children 9. It's a Wonderful Life 8. Inception 7. Saving Private Ryan 6. The Elephant Man 5. Spirited Away 4. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 3. Laputa: Castle in the Sky 2. Vertigo 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Top 10 (that come to mind! ) - It's a Wonderful Life - Back to the Future - La La Land - The Breakfast Club - 12 Angry Men - How to Train your Dragon 1&2 - Get Out - The Grand Budapest Hotel - Zootopia - In Bruges
In Bruges is that movie with that qoute ,,Bages? What bages? We don't need any stinking bages..'' I know it's now right written but I'm trying to find that movie , maybe you know it , it's with a mexican (i think) in black and white.
Donnie darko, brokeback mountain, requiem for a dream, rocky horror picture show, kill your darlings, chronicle, mr nobody, nightcrawler, southpaw, and the good girl are probably my top ten
Bit late to the party but movies are timeless so it's okay -Gattaca -Match Point -Ex Machina -Lost in Translation -The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -The Social Network -The Young Girls of Rochefort -North by Northwest -Eternal Sunshine Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -The Incredibles I think it'd also be interesting to see what movies almost made the cut but can't be classified as favourites and analayse why they're not quite 'there' :)
I guess my favourites would be the films I could just watch over and over again, like Kick Ass, Les Miserables, Mulan, Drop Dead Fred. They're a bit of a mix, but I always love to watch them.
+Kate F OMG! you just became my new best friend!! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVEEEE Drop Dead Fred!!!!!!! I rarely meet anyone who even knows what it is, much less seen it!!
I could listen to you talk about films for hours, it's so interesting to hear your opinion on them all. I'm more of a book reader myself, but my favourite films are probably gone girl and 500 days of summer.the first because of the INCREDIBLE plot and directing, and the way it explores what people are.The second because of the honesty and little unique quirks that make it so special. oh,and the ending *spoiler* that shows how easy it is to mistake a person for much more than they are. What do you think Jack?(or anyone else) x
The Butterfly Effect, with Ashton Kutcher A Knights Tale (that was my childhood) The Imitation Game I know very well that these are not masterpieces to most. But each of these meant so much to me. Each made me want to watch them over and OVER again. And yes I'm posting this a year later in Hopes Jack might see it and comment xD
i love the lord of the rings trilogy. i'm not that big on fantasy, but those films man... they are damn near perfect. for the rest of my favourite films please refer back to your own video, jack. they are all in there (i.e. the lion king, whiplash, the freakin social network, the dark knight, little miss sunshine).
and american beauty (one of my closest friends is refusing to watch american beauty with me because he thinks it's a chick flick. i have shown him the trailer, i have told him more about it, but he is still determined to never watch it.. that's what i call a wasted life)
as someone who wants to go to film school, i have a lot of fav films - dead poets society - wolf of wall street - donnie darko - back to the future (as you named!) - i like a lot of aesthetics from kill bill but i don't know how i feel about the movie itself so i'll put it here just because - tim burton's alice in wonderland - the breakfast club - miss representation (documentary) - jurassic park i'm sure i'm missing a lot but these are the ones i talk about most often when discussing movies!
Blue Valentine is my all time favourite. has been for years. it's perfect in every way. the story laments so organically, the acting is painfully believable. it's so.. realistic that you almost feel invasive watching it. like you're a fly on the wall but you're not a fly and you're not on the wall, you're right next to the characters feeling and experiencing everything they do. Also the subtle use of colours and shots to signify mood and time is just so nicely done. The whole film has reaccuring red and blues, each scene builds up to the very last few minutes of the film, which is set on the 4th of July and it's just.. ugh, it's just so good.
I love that movie sooo much, I got to see it at one of my classes (I'm a psychology student). The character development is just brilliant and I fell in love with the story
+Jason Harris that was a lot of pretentiousness coming from a comment who seemed to be against that sort of thing/ those sorts of people. i think i sense a hypocrite amidst our ranks.
My all time favourites are: - A Clockwork Orange - Fight Club - The Breakfast Club - Dead Poet's Society - The Machinist - Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (and many more, but those are just the gr8est)
Pulp Fiction is my all time favorite movie. The acting, the timing, the dialogue, the cinematography, the story, the editing. I love it all so very much. It is a movie I can always play, and like you said act along with it. It is the only movie I have truly felt emotional over and again, and like you said with the social network, feel somehow connected to it. I feel like I giving a piece of my soul when I watch it.
Back to the future 1,2 and 3. Catch me it you can. War Horse. The Terminal. The Lion King. Guardians of the Galaxy. I find that most movies are very disappointing but these are the movies that I will watch and enjoy every time.
+albert raymond one of my film school teachers had a poster of this film in one of our studios so I went home & watched one night expecting something light-hearted. What an experience.
Daniel Maguire I have watched it's a very funny movie.I made sure to watch anything Martin McDonagh had made after watching In Bruges. If you haven't watched it yet you should see Seven Psychopaths also starring Colin Farrell, simply amazing.
I really can't say I have a top ten because there are so many films I like, but some that are definitely up there are Nowhere Boy (watched it 3 times in a week oops), and the Imitation Game.
Yes! American Beauty is AMAZING! I also really love the Virgin Suicides and American Psycho...and Clueless...probably a little too much. Also almost all of David Lynch films, even though I still don't know what happened in Mulholland Drive to be completely honest. I love talking about films and none of my friends really like talking about them *cries*.
Oldboy (2003) is my FAVOURITE all time movie, and closeby is Prometheus, fight club and some other more recent one which I'm surprised made it onto my unbreakable list. I never had a list until I realised that EVERY time someone asks me, I never know, so I just have one now LOL
I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Kiki's Delivery Service - largely for the same reason. (Not the genitives in the titles.) I love them because those two movies in particular make me feel like anything is possible; like I can go out and live my life as a capable human being. It's like a subliminal message of 'You got this.'
Continously coming back to this video because of how engaging and passionate you are when you talk about these films. My favorites are way too many but here are some: - Little Miss Sunshine - Submarine - Lost in Translation - Whiplash - Ocean's Eleven - Her - Where the Wild Things Are - The Dark Knight - Fight Club - Back to the future - Harry Potter - Breakfast Club - Whiplash - Mean Girls - L'illusionniste - Eternal Sunshine - Superbad - Spirited Away And more, there is sooooo much more. Shit, I love films so much.
if you mean finding dory i still have not seen it because no one thought to get if for me at Christmas (everyone i knows i love it) or go to the cinema when it came out good thing i did not hear spoilers
Pride is my favourite movie, hands down. Also love actually is one of my sentimental feels where I can just watch it or have it on in the background and I still love it even though I've so overplayed it. Also some brilliant movies that were recently released are Her, Wild etc. When my dad first watched memento, directed by Christopher Nolan, he watched it, immediately hit play again when it finished, fell asleep on the lounge, woke up and watched it again. You talking about your favourite films makes me feel like that's something you would do.
1. Yellow Submarine 2. Indian Jones (first 3, I can't really pick which I like the best) 3. The Shining 4. The Shawshank Redemption 5. D'jango Unchained 6. Fight Club 7. Casino 8. Good Will Hunting 9. Amudaus 10. Heat 11. Drive 12. Scareface 13. The Grand Buddapest Hotel 14. Birdman 15. A Bronx Tale 16. No Country For Old Men 17. Oceans 11 18. One Hour Photo 19. Frank 20. Nowhere Boy Sorry it's so long, but those are my favorites. I also went with like a 1 film per director thing.
While I love a lot of films, 'Shaun of the Dead' is probably *objectively* the best film I've ever watched which is odd considering most people place dramas at the top of the list. If you watch the DVD commentary with Wright and Pegg, is so clear seeing all the effort and subtitles put into the script/direction that shows just how great they are as film-makers. It's also one of the only films I can see 100 times over and still find something new to appreciate - for example, during the pub scene after Liz breaks up with Shaun, Ed predicts the rest of the film through his dialogue. It's just so amazing and beautiful and I love it 5ever (because it's more than 4ever).
+Emily Fleetwood Inception is another one I missed. I put it in the same category as Jurassic Park. Blockbuster filmmaking that's really about a character growing.
My list is way too long but I don't care •submarine •kingsman •500 days of summer •Juno •little miss sunshine •ruby Sparks •13 going on 30 •sliding doors • notebook •Bridget Jones diary •donnie Darko • kill your darlings •Scott pligrim vs world •an education •the time travelers wife •kick ass
My favorite films are: 1. Parasite 2. Roma 3. Call Me By Your Name 4. 1917 5. La La Land 6. The Social Network 7. Spotlight 8. Before Trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) Honorable Mentions: Gone Girl, American Beauty, 12 Years A Slave, Nomadland, Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days
I had such an epiphany while watch 2001 a space odissey, my father made me watch it, bc I dared to say that i enjoyed interstellar, so he basically went like "daughter, imma show you what a good sci-fi movie looks like" and boy, oh boy! Other than that I really like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings because FEELINGS y'know
I'm not a huge movie watcher, but Little Miss Sunshine is my absolute favorite movie! I got to meet Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, and Zoe Kazan after a screening of Ruby Sparks. It was a complete surprise that they were there. It was an awesome moment. Ruby Sparks is another one of my favorites. That movie brought me to tears. It hit close to home.
Here are some of my favorite films: -Back To The Future (I agree with you Jack, it truly is a perfect movie, will forever be at the top of my list) -The Graduate -(500) Days of Summer -Forrest Gump -Planet of the Apes -Ferris Bueller's Day Off -Donnie Darko -Fight Club -Nighcrawler -Rocky Horror Picture Show -The Breakfast Club -X-Men: First Class -American Beauty -Filth -Inglorious Basterds -Rush -Reservoir Dogs -Pulp Fiction -The Great Race
I have seen 511 movies since 7th January 2019. Most of the films can be any decade. But my favourite film of all time is Whiplash. I had to sit through a lot of films to find my favourite movies. Oh my god, the part about crying at Lion King, literally, the exact same experience. It's been a favorite of mine since it came out (I'm sure I could recite the whole movie to you) and then at 20 years old, I finally saw the Broadway performance, and I cried, more like tears of joy at the time since I'd waited years to see that play. And now, even several years later, anytime I hear Circle of Life, I tear up, it's like a knee-jerk reaction. So glad I'm not alone
"everyone is obsessed with lists"
*five second later*
"I have a list here"
really Jack
Karla Estrella he meant in the typical countdown style list.
Erin Hassey it’s a joke
I really appreciate that this was a conversation and that you didn't turn it into a tag.
That was torture.
watching passionate people talk about their passion is the best thing
amy x yes
Breakfast Club, Gone Girl, Kill Bill vol 1, Grand Budapest Hotel, 21 Jump Street, ferris bullers day off, Perks of being a wallflower, American Beauty are my favourites.
We have so many favourite films in common! :D
My uncle directed little miss sunshine
You're joking
+JackHoward nope
+sadie lester (shutupsadie) and juno?! My favorite movie
Juno is THE BEST FILM EVER
+sadie lester yooooo no shit??? do you know any secrets behind the filming process??? i LOVE that film ive watched it so many times tell your uncle hes absolutely brilliant
Hey Jack, have you ever heard of The Worst Idea of All Time podcast? For season 1 they watched Sandler's Grown Ups 2 every week for a full year. For season 2, so far they've watched Sex and the City 2 about 30 times this year, and I think it's beginning to break their sanity.
+LilDeuceDeuce that sounds fucking horrible Todd
+Charlotte Komar Nick and Norah is fantastic!
+Charlotte Komar Can't Buy me love Definitely!!!! Love love love!
+Charlotte Komar I love all of those !!!
***** I loved the book as well! The story was a little different in the film but it definitely captured the whirlwind romantic feel of the book
+Charlotte Komar Great choices. I feel like She's The Man is underrated for being a genuinely good movie rather than just another teen flick.
About Time is pretty great
+Mauro Hernandez i love that movie so so so much
Yessss it's my favorite
So good
oh god one of the best! it feels so nostalgic to me in terms of the typical Britishness that this movie is so subtly littered with? idk if that makes sense but something about it just oozes loveliness, and passion and you can tell that so much went into it to make it affect the audience in the way it does. one of my all time favourite movies, and I think it will be forever
it gets repeats on TV so much that I'm kind of sick of it now.
Into The Wild has gotta be one of my favourite movies. The cinematography and story and the way it's effected my mindset about life... I just love it!
I'm literally watching Into the Wild this very moment 😂 I'm about halfway through and I'm really enjoying it so far 😊
+Anna Mangnus Ahhh that's so weird. Hope you enjoy the rest of it ☺
Okay I just finished it and I'm too emotional to be a good film critic right now but I really loved it and it's really making me think. Great movie 😊
Ratatouille was my first eye opener to movies as a whole from story to script to direction. It's one of those movies that i watch or put in the background like an album and i would talk along with it.
+manoory omg Ratatouille yes!!!! Love love love!!
+manoory Possibly the most under rated Disney film ever... It's my favourite :)
the sound of music has always been my favorite film and I have no idea why. I just love it
The Sound of music is brilliant I went to see it on stage a few weeks ago and felt so emotional throughout the performance!
+emma w. Ohhhh the opening scene where she runs up over the hill
I personally love the film Juno. just everything about it is fantastic, the soundtrack, the actors, the story (obviously), and you can never go wrong with Michael Cera.
That shelving unit is so beautiful organised AHHH MY OCD!
+Bullitain - that was literally my first thought. i hope its in alphabetical order.
I actually think How to Train Your Dragon is a seriously brilliant film and deserves far more praise than it gets. I think film enthusiasts are scared to admit how good some animated films are because they feel like they don't "count."
+Jakeshapedworld so much agree
Animated films are still recognised by most film makers, I'm not entirely sure but it seems a lot of the time it's the film enthusiasts who dismiss animation as being for children which is a real pity. I haven't made a list but some of the contenders for top places in the favourite films list would definitely be reserved for animated films. Studio Ghilbli and Pixar especially.
+Jakeshapedworld Agreed! I didn't expect that about it but that's what I liked. Found a gem!
+Jakeshapedworld I liked it, but I can't fully pull myself to really like it because I read the books first and it ignores so much.
That's exactly how I feel about Smurfs 2 and Transformers 4 and most importantly, Spy Kids 3.
+JJBinxyboo I know right. Finally someone who gets it. I highly recommend the breathtaking Big Mommas 3: Like Father, Like Son
I hope this is sarcasm because the opening line made me burst out laughing but if not I AM SO SORRY
+Patrick Mullahey don't forget the airbender movie
+Patrick Mullahey bee movie had some funny bits in it
I'm obsessed with the opening scene of the social network, my friend did it for an audition and I ran it with him so many times that I learnt Rooney Mara's lines by hear
I see a lot of bad horror movies, and that one was the one I hated the least haha.
Samantha Russell you should watch the babadook, pretty awesome horror movie!!
I watched la vita e bella in Italian class at school and I laughed and cried and it was an absolutely beautiful movie fantastically made with amazing characters and themes. Loved it.
La Vita e Bella is an amazing movie oh my god. Especially when you watch it in Italian like I did yes
I've been watching youtube videos for 6 years and this is the first time i've ever commented on one- wanted to voice an opinion for once. Favourite films: Annie Hall, 10 things i hate about you, moonrise kingdom... Lion king and back to the future are definitely up there too. Classics.
+Kate Stephens Thanks Kate :)
+JackHoward My favourite movie is Back to the Future Part II, BUT IT'S 2015 AND THERE'S NO HOVERBOARDS! OMFGASDFGHJKLZXCVBNM
+Kate Stephens I love 10 things I hate about you. One of the few good romcoms. And Heath
+JackHoward My pleasure
Please can you do a video talking about your favourite tv shows? :)

I see you like Wes Anderson. Which one of his movies do you like most? Why?
Boyhood lol
Have you seen hot fuzz
Great choices! A fellow Wes Anderson fan 😜
@@Filozofu ik you didn’t ask me but personally it’s The Darjeeling Limited
Why? I find the way the narrative slowly reveals truths about the characters using their relationships with each other, incredibly smart and well done.
What’s your favourite and why?
The Princess Bride is, I think, my all time favorite. I never get tired of watching it, I've got 3 copies of it so I can lend it to others. It is a movie that has something for everyone, and it stands the test of time.
I also love 10 Things I Hate About You, 1776, Shaun of the Dead, The Outsiders, Spice World, and so many more I absolutely love movies.
I can't believe I forgot Boondock Saints.
As I'm reading other's comments I keep finding more movies I didn't list.
+Elizabeth Wright The Princess Bride is one of the best! Definitely the one that hits me in the childhood the hardest. Considering I never watched the lion king as a kid it's probably my equivalent.
Caleb Joaquin.
I love what you said about The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin's writing has always been my favourite in terms of film and television, have you seen Studio 60? :)
And I totally agree with you on Back To The Future - it's such an incredibly entertaining film; I've seen it countless times and I still enjoy it. I genuinely think it's perfect, too!
Currently re-watching studio 60. I love it.
+JackHoward have you seen Sports Night? Early Sorkin- super 90s but still awesome
I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time with the orchestra playing the score live - and it changed my life.
+JackHoward I'd say it's one of the best films this year so far
+JackHoward I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen it either, despite all of my friends bullying me into doing so.
+DeeDee Marie such a good film! they're making a second I belive but without Isla Fisher due to schedule conflicts.
+Katie Firth Daniel Radcliffe is going to be in it. I'm super pumped!
I didn't know that!!! So excited!!!
+DeeDee Marie Oh for real!!! AHH :D
WHIPLASH IS SO FUKIN GOOD
J.K SIMMONS SLAYS
SOMEBODY AGREES
OMFG YESSSS
itS AMAZING and nice profile pic
Crazy good
I can't say that I have seen a lot of the classics, to be honest, I might just be too mainstream- when it comes to movies.
+Emilie Goldhahn The Lion King musical is absolutely fantastic, I loved it too
I loooooved Gone Girl.
Mulan is definitely ranked as one of my favorite films!
+Emilie Goldhahn I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT SILVER LININGS I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH AS IT'S ACTUALLY ACCURATE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH YET STILL FUNNY MIRRORING THE SILVER LININGS CONCEPT.
Mulan is a bad ass! Couldn't have wished for a better female role model in my childhood!
+laspalabrasdefa Fa! Hola! Deberías hacer un video así, seria super divertido!
laspalabrasdefa Faaa!! Sos grande Faa!! Gracias a ti conocí a Jack, gracias.
Absolutely love hearing you talk about something you're so invested in. Oddly inspiring watching someone talk about things they are passionate about.
i remember being literally shocked for 3 days after watching Interstellar. and just that soundtrack in my head...it is also SUCH a good film that you don't want to see it again ykwim
Agreed! Superb.
+illmakeuhowell ugh Hans Zimmer provides a tremendous back drop for almost every film he scores. love the guy.
Also Dallas Buyers' Club, the Imitation Game, Schindler's List, Midnight in Paris and My Week with Marilyn
+Harshita Narasimhan Hannah Witton recently made a video talking about the MPDG trope and talked a little bit about why 500 days of summer actually criticizes it. Worth checking it out if you're interested :)
miaamargareta I did! Hannah's videos are brilliant, I've been a fan for quite a while now 😊
+Harshita Narasimhan I cry every time that I watch 10 Things I Hate About You!!
Also LOOOVEEE 500 Days of Summer & The Breakfast Club
+Harshita Narasimhan Dead Poet's Society: OohHhmY GOD it's been forever since I've thought of that movie. Tears.
Lemonade Mouth. I feel like it's underrated, but I feel a strong connection to one of the characters and the storyline as a whole. I want to talk about movies more on my channel. thank you for creating, Jack!
and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. super fun movie (:
YO YO LEMONADE MOUTH YES OMG YES OH YES JUST YES also it was based off a book but the movie is better because it takes out all the raunchy kinda weird parts to try and make it "relate to teens" i dunno the movie was just rely good and feel good and nice made me happy
+lucythebaldone agreed! I think this was one film that was better than the book (:
when you said that people's favorite movies are usually ones that have some effect on them I immediately thought of The Double.
I can't ever say what my favourite film is because it changes.
The Lion King, and also Pride. Which is a pairing I didn't realize until just now sounds like it's supposed to be a very weak joke.
+Fourteen Lines Pride!! I was looking for someone else who said it!! SO GOOD
+Fourteen Lines Thank you fro reminding me about Pride! Great film. I feel like I watch SO MANY movies it's hard to remember them sometimes.
+Fourteen Lines YES!! Pride means so much to me, like i don't even know how to explain it
I live where most of pride is filmed and I loved it Welsh accents were weak at times but such a good story and one of the best British films in the last couple of years
I live in Wales too! Andrew Scott's accent was definitely my favourite ^-^
I haven't seen that many films but I think in terms of comedy, dodgeball and team America are the best. I also love the film Juno, it makes me cry and I still can't quite work out why but it does, every single time I see it
+Lottie Howell Love all those films
juno is probably in my top 3 faves
Juno is fantastic.
+Lottie Howell oooh Juno, definitely Juno!!! Could watch that movie over & over a million times!
honestly there are so many films I love but my favourite at the minute has to be the imitation game. the soundtrack, the direction, the acting, for me it's all there. the portrayal of alan turing in that film is so heart wrenching and emotional, and the final scene, especially the very end with alan switching off the light on christopher, is the most beautiful metaphor I have seen in a film to date. it's also made better for me by the fact that it was a true story, because I feel like it's really difficult to make a good film that's based on fact. I'd definitely recommend it.
Might have to finally watch The Social Network now then. As for my favourite film I genuinely don't have one, since I fall into the trap of saying the last good film I watched is my favourite.
+MeganWithCamera You should definitely watch it
Its one of the best films ever!
+MeganWithCamera I'm soooooo guilty of that too :)
My favourite ever film has to be Lost in Translation! I agree with the Social Network the dialogue in that film is so so amazing 😊
+Grace Parkin Another one I forgot to mention. I adore it.
Yes! No energy from my long comment. I hope I remember to come back to this. The acting work on display alone blows me away. Along with structure. And montage design. And freaking Bill Murray lumbering clumsily through the compact cityscape of Tokyo.
+JackHoward the cinematography is insane 😂 Lost in Translation is the film in which I fell in love with Bill Murray!
Here's my top 10 favourite films:
10. Wolf Children
9. It's a Wonderful Life
8. Inception
7. Saving Private Ryan
6. The Elephant Man
5. Spirited Away
4. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
3. Laputa: Castle in the Sky
2. Vertigo
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Top 10 (that come to mind! )
- It's a Wonderful Life
- Back to the Future
- La La Land
- The Breakfast Club
- 12 Angry Men
- How to Train your Dragon 1&2
- Get Out
- The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Zootopia
- In Bruges
In Bruges is that movie with that qoute ,,Bages? What bages? We don't need any stinking bages..'' I know it's now right written but I'm trying to find that movie , maybe you know it , it's with a mexican (i think) in black and white.
Donnie darko, brokeback mountain, requiem for a dream, rocky horror picture show, kill your darlings, chronicle, mr nobody, nightcrawler, southpaw, and the good girl are probably my top ten
shit I forgot to mention prisoners. That's well up there too
I'm spotting a lot of gyllenhaal
Mariah G Nightcrawler is brilliant! Not saying that those others you listed up aren't
I love The Social Network too!!!
It's so good, totally agree with you
why i find very few people that think the same?
Bit late to the party but movies are timeless so it's okay
-Gattaca
-Match Point
-Ex Machina
-Lost in Translation
-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
-The Social Network
-The Young Girls of Rochefort
-North by Northwest
-Eternal Sunshine Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-The Incredibles
I think it'd also be interesting to see what movies almost made the cut but can't be classified as favourites and analayse why they're not quite 'there' :)
Ok , tell me a bit about North by Northwest . What it's his strong point?
I guess my favourites would be the films I could just watch over and over again, like Kick Ass, Les Miserables, Mulan, Drop Dead Fred. They're a bit of a mix, but I always love to watch them.
+Kate F and Titanic of course
+Kate F OMG! you just became my new best friend!! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVEEEE Drop Dead Fred!!!!!!! I rarely meet anyone who even knows what it is, much less seen it!!
+January Quackenboss I grew up on the film
me too
DROP DEAD FRED IS 2ND ON MY FAVOURITES MOVIE LIST!! Love that film!!
HER is a brilliant movie!
Omg I forgot Amelie, inception and the social network. Damn it those are good films x
The Butterfly Effect, with Ashton Kutcher
A Knights Tale (that was my childhood)
The Imitation Game
I know very well that these are not masterpieces to most. But each of these meant so much to me. Each made me want to watch them over and OVER again. And yes I'm posting this a year later in Hopes Jack might see it and comment xD
Why does the butterfly Effect has such a low metascore? (critics hate this movie)
i love the lord of the rings trilogy. i'm not that big on fantasy, but those films man... they are damn near perfect.
for the rest of my favourite films please refer back to your own video, jack. they are all in there (i.e. the lion king, whiplash, the freakin social network, the dark knight, little miss sunshine).
and american beauty (one of my closest friends is refusing to watch american beauty with me because he thinks it's a chick flick. i have shown him the trailer, i have told him more about it, but he is still determined to never watch it.. that's what i call a wasted life)
Yes huge Lord of the rings fan!!
yes, you are correct.
+fraukamera Near perfect? Fraukamera, they ARE perfect! :D
lotr made me actually like movies in general
as someone who wants to go to film school, i have a lot of fav films
- dead poets society
- wolf of wall street
- donnie darko
- back to the future (as you named!)
- i like a lot of aesthetics from kill bill but i don't know how i feel about the movie itself so i'll put it here just because
- tim burton's alice in wonderland
- the breakfast club
- miss representation (documentary)
- jurassic park
i'm sure i'm missing a lot but these are the ones i talk about most often when discussing movies!
oh, and the imitation game!
Jena Prosser i love every single film you mentioned wow
so now just let me stay up all night watching these films
I really like The Fundamental Needs of Caring. Great performances.
+
Kmskaitlin I’m really late but I agree! A very unrelated movie
Kmskaitlin *the fundamentals of caring
How about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?
I love that movie sooo much, I got to see it at one of my classes (I'm a psychology student). The character development is just brilliant and I fell in love with the story
+Jason Harris you have a point, maybe the film is not a masterpiece but psychologically speaking you can get a lot from the characters
+Jason Harris that was a lot of pretentiousness coming from a comment who seemed to be against that sort of thing/ those sorts of people.
i think i sense a hypocrite amidst our ranks.
came to the comments to write this
+Jason Harris Yeah I agree, quite boring actually
My all time favourites are:
- A Clockwork Orange
- Fight Club
- The Breakfast Club
- Dead Poet's Society
- The Machinist
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
(and many more, but those are just the gr8est)
+BirdSpy Aus Catch if you can is great, also one of my favorites. The DiCaprio-Hanks combination is amazing
war horse yEs
catch me if you can is one of my faves too!! x
In Bruges, amazing film funny but serious at the same time, a must watch
+albert raymond The most underrated film of all time in my opinion. On of my favourites
+albert raymond one of my film school teachers had a poster of this film in one of our studios so I went home & watched one night expecting something light-hearted. What an experience.
if you like in Bruges you should watch the guard. its similiar, if not as good
Daniel Maguire I have watched it's a very funny movie.I made sure to watch anything Martin McDonagh had made after watching In Bruges. If you haven't watched it yet you should see Seven Psychopaths also starring Colin Farrell, simply amazing.
Saw that as well, it was good although it couldn't live up to in Bruges
OMG Her and Whiplash are BEAUTIFUL movies! Those are my favorite!
Holes, Of Mice and Men, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Chicken Run, The Lion King, The Little Prince (2015), Jurassic Park, so on and so forth
+Abigail Monty I loved clueless! I found it was so much deeper than meets the eye which perfectly mirrors Cher as a character.
Oldboy (2003) is my FAVOURITE all time movie, and closeby is Prometheus, fight club and some other more recent one which I'm surprised made it onto my unbreakable list.
I never had a list until I realised that EVERY time someone asks me, I never know, so I just have one now LOL
NO! You were doing so well until you said Prometheus lol.
U should watch Sympathy for Mr Vengeance if u liked Oldboy!
I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Kiki's Delivery Service - largely for the same reason. (Not the genitives in the titles.)
I love them because those two movies in particular make me feel like anything is possible; like I can go out and live my life as a capable human being. It's like a subliminal message of 'You got this.'
The Boondock Staints, A Clockwork Orange, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas are my top three faves.
+KayLeigh Carnes Yes to Clockwork Orange!!!
+Megan Rees A CLOCKWORK ORANGE YUS OMG
+KayLeigh Carnes can't go wrong with Kubrick and Terry Gilliam!
Petition for Jack Howard to direct the next Spider Man movie
Zombieland is so good!! I feel the same about Youth In Revolt and Scott Pilgrim

forrestfruits what did you think about it?
if you mean finding dory i still have not seen it because no one thought to get if for me at Christmas (everyone i knows i love it) or go to the cinema when it came out
good thing i did not hear spoilers
Pride is my favourite movie, hands down.
Also love actually is one of my sentimental feels where I can just watch it or have it on in the background and I still love it even though I've so overplayed it. Also some brilliant movies that were recently released are Her, Wild etc.
When my dad first watched memento, directed by Christopher Nolan, he watched it, immediately hit play again when it finished, fell asleep on the lounge, woke up and watched it again. You talking about your favourite films makes me feel like that's something you would do.

YES YES YES I love Shaun of the dead
Maya Carswell It's sO GOOD AND AMAZING I JUST ARRR RG
+SamTheSparrow SUCH A GOOD FILM YES
your taste in films is impeccable
Billy Elliot (2002). It gets me every time. Plus, the sountrack is amazing.
For a very long time it used to be Kick Ass though..
Forest Gump and Catch me if you can (I'm a big Tom Hanks fan)
I love Forrest Gump. I could cry thinking about it.
Catch Me If You Can is one of my faves
+Immy Prestidge ooooh yes to both! Especially Forrest Gump!. I HAVE to watch it anytime I see it on! Holds a special place for me
Lmao I completely agree with Kick Ass. It's one of those movies I'll never get tired of
my favourite films are probably inception, kingsman or back to the future but i can't put them in an order haha
+Emily Fleetwood Inception is another one I missed. I put it in the same category as Jurassic Park. Blockbuster filmmaking that's really about a character growing.
Great video! Seen most of these films and most of them are in my list as well.
The incredibles.
+SoFabtastic YES
+SoFabtastic THERE'S GOING TO BE A SEQUEL CAN WE JUST ALL SEND A THANK YOU PRAYER TO DISNEY?!

Damn straight.
+JackHoward Mind replying to my comments? It would mean the world to me!
2:46 excuse me but what about my personal favourit movie taxi driver?
I'm not a huge movie watcher, but Little Miss Sunshine is my absolute favorite movie! I got to meet Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, and Zoe Kazan after a screening of Ruby Sparks. It was a complete surprise that they were there. It was an awesome moment. Ruby Sparks is another one of my favorites. That movie brought me to tears. It hit close to home.

Manchester by the Sea. Watch Manchester by the Sea. Your heart will break.
For some odd reason i really love the film Heathers, the musical is amazing too
Yessss Heathers is great, Winona Ryder is my one true love ❤️
Oh my god, the part about crying at Lion King, literally, the exact same experience. It's been a favorite of mine since it came out (I'm sure I could recite the whole movie to you) and then at 20 years old, I finally saw the Broadway performance, and I cried, more like tears of joy at the time since I'd waited years to see that play. And now, even several years later, anytime I hear Circle of Life, I tear up, it's like a knee-jerk reaction. So glad I'm not alone
My absolute favourite films are:
Shawshank redemption, Pulp fiction and Fight club
