5sauce fans of the "emo trinity" are ridiculous fans that are easily manipulated to get money out if and if they had Panic! on the soundtrack AND twenty one pilots (even if it's not in the trinity thing) then they would sell more cds and movie tickets (as the fans would hope that it would be in the movie) so it was all a huge money thing. i do like that Brendon, Josh, and Tyler all got to be involved with a soundtrack though. must be a really cool experience
Susie Brown yeah I get that but if Panic! recorded it they might as well put it in the movie too. Some fans are so crazy they might go just to hear P!ATD in the film😂
5sauce my only explanation would be that it was recorded after the movie was relatively ready-to-go and they didn't want to pay someone to switch songs
My biggest complaint: every single suicide squad member except Harley and Deadshot are so forgettable and useless that they can easily be cut out and almost nothing changes.
Why was Katana even in this movie and Croc....they did nothing and yet seemed more interesting as characters to me than Will Smiths take on Deadshot complete with typical Smith line delivery (urgh)....
I'm on the same page. As a fellow filmmaker, I want to see this train wreck of concept and execution... if only just to see what went wrong. Makes you appreciate when a film can actually make it through the ringer of corporate hollywood at least somewhat intact.
just watched it and I felt all these things. the thing that killed me the most was the cheesy dialogue like the 6000 year old witch saying "you don't have the balls" WHY THE FUCK WOULD AN ANCIENT GODLIKE WITCH USE THAT VOCAB?!?
because she absorbed the mind of amander waller and her knoladge so she would know modern insults qhile looking at her mind. she has also got the memorys of doctor snow. FUCKING THINK.
the original suicide squad was super dark and then deadpool came out so they reedited the whole thing to make it quirky and funny turning into a turd pile
Just saw it and unfortunately I completely agree with you. You hit the nail on the head when you said it's like a montage and a music video at times. It's so badly put together and edited. The worst thing about it all for me is that it had so much potential and the characters and the actors who portray them were fantastic, especially Harley Quinn and Joker. It's the rest of the film that collapses around these characters/actors. I feel sorry for them because they were great (apart from Enchantress who was so ott and bad). Disappointing.
YES! Agree with you, 100% - the potential was there, they just didn't do the right thing with it. Like the characters I think looked cool, some (Robbie, Leto and Smith) had great acting performances, and it had a cool look. But things like the script and the editing were SO badly done unfortunately...
I don't know if it really had any potential to begin with. I mean yeah, a star studded cast, but plenty of movies with good actors have been total duds. The writing in this movie is complete fucking garbage. A couple funny moments and Deadshot and Harley were good but everything else was so bad I started laughing during the 'climax' if you could even call it that. For an action movie that's supposed to be a blockbuster, the action was terrible. Literally not one single moment where I thought to myself "Wow that was really cool" besides maybe when Deadshot is taking target practice in prison surrounded by guards. The cgi monster Incubus looked like they ran out of money during shooting. One of the worst films I've seen in the last five years hands down.
YES. I dont know how she got casted besides her being a big star Cara was absolutely awful! I feel like even the editors didn't have faith in her acting because in most of the scenes she was in they always edited out her face. Am i the only one who noticed that?
I came back from seeing the film and I absolutely loved it! It was perfect (for me) I would of preferred a bit more of Joker but I understood that this wasn't his movie or even a batman movie. I think it's a lot more of a marvel movie in terms of basic plot and not so grand villain, but I actually do like the way the scenes were all trippy and neon and such. I don't know I just loved how different it was, and in my opinion it was very refreshing from all the cookie cutter comic book films we've been seeing as of late.
You mean the films where there's a big bad villain who wants to take over the world so they create a portal in the middle of a city and then the heroes of the story have to destroy it? Yeah this movie was so refreshingly different.
Considering Heath ledger did such great acting portraying the joker, I think it was only right to introduce Jared Leto as the new joker in a movie that would cast him as the main villain, with batman, I think this whole cameo thing is just a waste of what could've been, the movie was ok though.
I loved the film, but I completely understand what your saying here and I agree with it. But I still enjoyed it. I didn't care about the plot I just wanted to see wacky characters and visuals and I enjoyed it much more.
Also you said on Twitter that it should've been focused on Harley. Nahhhhh sorry but nahhhhh. Also it's the Suicide SQUAD, so there shouldn't be one main character. The characters did develop, albeit very rushed and meh. But as I said visuals. The action scenes were great too.
I think what Jack meant by having a main character is best explained when looking at Guardians of the Galaxy (spoilers ahead). In that film, Peter Quill is the main character. However, we still get a look into the stories of the other members of the group - we see the complexity of Gamora's morals and how her childhood shaped them; we learn about the torture Rocket endured when he was created; we felt for Drax when he described how he lost his family; and though we don't learn much about his past, we witness enough of Groot's character to cry over a frickin' tree when he sacrifices himself to save his frineds. All these characters have their stories (and they're told in a way that's constructive to the film and its charcters), but Quill's is undeniably the main one. Quill is the main character and the other members of the group are supporting his role. It's a more subtle division between main character and supporting roles, but it's there.
+Allyson Garcia well said. I don't get it..Movie would've been great if dead shot or harlequin were the main characters and ditch that 30min intro to every character at the start. The movie felt like it was getting started than boom stop! Rewind. Play again. Nope, gotta stop again. Rewind, we got 6 more of these, hurry up people!! Instead of slowly starting the film off with one main character and conflict and slowly naturally weave in the other characters while the movie continued to move along. I don't understand what the difficulty is here? Oh and I'd be super pissed if I was Jared Leto. He said they cut upwards to 65% of his scenes and dialogue out.. Wow. Why hire an Oscar winning actor to portray an extremely iconic character than stab him in the back after he obviously put a lot of thought and work into it. It's beyond baffling. DC, as if they hadn't already, now have to climb an entire mountain range in Tibet, instead of a single Everest just to catch up now.. Sad
+Flurpeh Watching films is escapism. I love films that have intricate plots and backstory but it was fine to kick back and enjoy this for a couple of hours. I'm not saying it's a masterpiece and that it's one of my favourite movies ever but I enjoyed it. Why can't people deal with an opinion without hating on it? I agree with a lot of what Jack said but that doesn't mean I still can't like a film. I'm not going to rave about it, I just enjoyed it. If you hated it then that's great! Because it's your opinion. Feedback in any form is amazing until someone comes along and judges another's opinion.
+Aidan Tierney Some people trust a person's opinion if they feel like they connect with their way of thinking. For example I trust Jack's opinion bc I relate to the way he thinks and I often find myself agreeing with pretty much all of his opinions and the way he analyzes things. So yeah. I'm taking Jack's word for it.
+Matthew0337 although I agree that people should form their own opinions, I'd rather not waste my time with a film that someone has literally told me is not worth watching. I'd rather spend that time watching something better.
But you won't, will you? You'll comment on youtube videos or lurk the internet or something. It's a couple of hours and a few dollars and suddenly you have your own opinion.
I know nothing about Dr strange, Captain Marvel or Namor but I'm super excited to see them anyways. You know why? Because Marvel Studios clearly understands their characters and good filmmaking. They can introduce you a character that probably didn't know existed and make you interested.
It's just his opinion! You should go see it for yourself and see what you personally think about the film :) there's also quite a lot of good reviews on TH-cam and Google so it's not all bad
eatdirtgrande then the comics are at fault, if she started out that way. i'm not big into the comics scene, but i have noticed a trend of portraying women as sex objects rather than people. but as i said, i don't know too much about it. what do you think about women's portrayal?
Haidar Amro whaaat? i never mentioned batman or superman. but you are correct. the way we portray a lot of superheroes is very unrealistic, and can possibly have negative affects on people. maybe it's a good idea to focus on superheroes of all genders. thanks for making me think, haidar!
+elevenandriver +elevenandriver of course the portrayal of superheroes is unrealistic. THEY'RE unrealistic! You can't have a regular guy named Dave with a beer gut flying around saying he's superman. It just doesn't work. Superheroes are unrealistic because they're (SHOCK HORROR!!) not real. Sure the sexualization isn't great in the end, even if people do make stronger female characters people just shit all over it. You're never going to please everyone.
free speech to anyone but spiderman two was an awful movie which was pretty much just made as a profit from the first wich is funnily something he said he hated
Just found your channel on the trending page. This review was class man, (there were a couple spoilery moments though). I assumed this was a review channel cause of how eloquently you put your points across. You've got to make a film review series
The movie is like this. You are watching your favorite team play football, there is under a minute left and they are down by 2 points. They drive the field making it to the 15 yard line with 1 second left on the clock. You know you have this game won, an amazing comeback is about to happen... the kicker comes out, lines up the shot... and shanks it wide right, and all you can say is how the hell can you miss that!?! That is this movie in a nutshell. The premise is the Avengers, but with bad guys, a brilliant and fun concept. The characters are great, you cannot help but love them, the actors are amazing. Margot Robbie steals the show as Harley Quinn, Will Smith is surprisingly good as dead shot, Jay Hernandez is wonderful as Diablo... it was the perfect storm, it should have been a slam dunk, but the writing, the plot, oh so bad.. so many holes, so many illogical moments, so many 1 liners fall flat, the deep moments lack any emotion, Jared Leto as the Joker was a missed opportunity as he was not really used at all and had little to do with the story, it leaves you shaking your head and you just ask how did they miss the chip shot? And the after scene? A waste. Once again DC fails where Marvel excels, and I am at a loss to explain it, does anyone read these scripts before they produce them? Look it is not a total loss, as just some mindless entertainment on a sweltering Houston day it will do fine, just do not expect anything exceptional. It looks like it is doing well at the Box Office... but I do not expect it to have staying power, this is Batman vs. Superman, not Guardians of the Galaxy.
I'll probably get hated for saying this, but I really think Marvel produces better movies. I've never really fully enjoyed any DC films, but I love most Marvel ones. But it is just my opinion, don't get me wrong.
my fave characters are Green Lantern and Flash. Yet I have been forced to love Marvel now because DC keeps destroying my hopes and dreams. thank goodness for a decent tv series.
Jindorek I do enjoy The Flash TV series (I haven't watched the Green Lantern series yet, though) But other than that there isn't much DC that I genuinely like a lot if I'm honest
thnks fr th meme-eries green lantern has no live action series. But there is a Green Lantern Corps movie coming. for better or for worse. i hope they build on the last movie, even if it was shit, at least it had a good build, and Oa was well defined.
Watchmen barely counts, because they just took the great story from the book and put it on the big screen, rather than adapting it. And all changes they made to the story were rightfully criticized. DKR was good, but also has problems (anti-climctic defeat of villains, too many moments where you really have to suspend your disbelief, despite this being a "realistic" superhero movie). I feel DC fans give the movie a bit more credit than its due, largely because of Dark Knight, which itself largely rode on Ledger's performance. MoS was joyless, had plot holes, was the first example of pulling out a big villain too early, and clearly not understanding the characters its portraying. BvS had the exact same problems, but more plentiful, and a few more of its own.
Damien Temiyi Like how the Kents, goodm tolerant, decent, hard working people in every other version, but in MoS, Pa Kent says "maybe you should have let that bus full of kids drown." And Ma Kent, in BvS has no reaction to seeing a man blow up in front of her, like she's some sociopath, and tells her son, basically "be their savior or be nothing to them." Really, Christ or nonexistence is his only two options? Or that Pa Kent dies to show Clark its better to let people die than let them know your special, then starts flying around in a red and blue costume, saving people, making his death pointless. Or that Superman openly admits that he's not a hero because it the right thing to do, but because he thinks that's what his dad wants. his earth dad. despite it being his kryptonian father who told him that. And what kind of father saves his son from a dying planet, not so that he can have a better life, but so that he can be the messiah to a lesser race? And Lois and Clark have no chemistry, nor a really developed relationship. They're only together in the movies because that's how they are in the comics. If you want it to be serious and show him struggling, that's fine. And of course he shouldn't be cracking jokes after killing someone, that's going to far to the other end of the spectrum, because where he's at right now, he's miserable. He looks so depressed all the time. Why is it that the shining beacon of hope that is superman never smiles? So, of your three movies, MoS should not be on there. And neither should Watchmen, because all they did was copy the story, as opposed to taking characters and writing a new story for them.
Damien Temiyi Its pointless because you ignore most of what I say. I did not say Watchmen was a bad movie. Alan Moore wrote a good book. That book was published by DC, so they had the rights to make a movie off it, and they did. Any creativity the studio took with it was criticized by fans and critics. So, I don't feel it should be included in YOUR list. The original criticism was that DC (specifically the part associated with WB studios) can't make good movies. And one of those movies you listed was good not because of the studio, but because of Alan Moore. Its a good movie, but that's no thanks to WB, and by extension, DC. And just because a movie is popular, doesn't mean its good. That's why such terms as "overrated" exist. Critics like it because its a different take on Superman. It doesn't matter to them if it really makes sense, they got to see something new. And when a critic has to watch every single movie that comes out, what they appreciate even more than actual quality is uniqueness. Others like it because its superman. They only keep their brains on enough to follow the rough outline of the story, thereby missing most of its flaws, and then come alive during the action scenes. Just because you like a movie doesn't mean its good. And liking a bad movie doesn't make you any less of a person. And before you tell me that "just because I don't like it, doesn't mean its bad," I can make the distinction. I've seen plenty of movies I didn't like, but acknowledged them as good because they had parts that were objectively well done or lacked parts that were objectively bad. Yes, movies are subjective, but replacing the all the audio in the movie with a ringing phone is objectively bad. The subjective part comes where you like the movie in spite of that flaw.
Damien Temiyi No, you weren't doing me a favor. We have two opposing view points. We should debate them until we come to an agreement, or else one of us is walking around believing incorrect information. I don't want that for you or me. I didn't say he wanted the kids to die. I KNOW he said maybe. I SAID that he said maybe. That "maybe" is almost as bad as a "yes." When someone asks you "should I have let those children drown?" if you answer anything other than "no" you're wrong. The correct answer is "good job saving those kids, son. But you have to be careful about revealing what you can do. The world isn't ready for all you are." And that might be how a lot of people react, but that's not how Ma Kent reacts. The Kents are better than most people. They generally don't resort to violence, except as a last resort, and NEVER outright murder. Even if the only way Batman could save her would be to kill that guy, she may not criticize him for it (because she's such a good person she does force her non-violent beliefs on others) but she should still be shaken up by that experience. At least she would be, if we were going by virtually any other interpretation of her, other than the DCEU version. Now, that is writing two iconic characters without understanding what made them iconic in the first place. That is a failure of writing. Unless your goal was to write an Elseworlds movie where "what if the Kents just didn't care about other people?" Well, that doesn't work either, because everyone else in the movie acts like they are good people. Again, a failure of writing. The DCEU is not underrated. It's major problem is borrowing successful ideas (from the MCU, earlier DC movies and iconic DC comics) without understanding why they were successful, and then tripping over itself trying to play catch up to Marvel. DC/WB needs to ignore what Marvel is doing and only work on a DCEU when they have scripts that work and actors that fit the role, rather than just throwing star power at the problem. If you would be so kind as to respond, I'd appreciate it if we could keep this debate civil, regardless of how "stupid" we may think the other person sounds.
This movie was released when I was still working at a movie theater, which meant that while I was working there was a tv screen that played a bunch of trailers for movies on a loop, meaning I basically memorized the trailer for this movie. and there were several points where I was waiting for something that was in the trailer and it never came and I left the theater thinking "well in that case you're just lying to your audience aren't you?"
I was so disappointed with Spectre - I really loved Skyfall and the trailers for Spectre made it look faaabulous, but at the end of the film I just sat there blankly thinking "uh, what was all that about? Nothing. *shrug* that was disappointing."
i fucking knew it was going to be bad. the fuckton of fan service everywhere pisses me off so bad, like, you go to the cinema and you come out just as empty as you were. it just doesn't make an impact, like it used to. I used to love putting myself in the story of a movie or a cartoon when i was a kid, but that nostalgia has been kicked to shit by these excuses of movies that they keep shoving down our throats, which feel more like commercials than actual stories. recently there's been so much disappointment in the movie industry and it honestly just makes me so sad...
+Matthew0337 well he didn't just say he didn't like it, he went through why and i agreed. his review contained a lot of points that i dislike the most about today's movies, like fan service, lack of plot, etc. after seeing the trailer i kind of figured that it's going to be another attempt to please the masses while not focusing on the actual story. this reaction from Jact was kind of expected tbh. i guess i can't judge before i see it, but I'm just stating the obvious- new movies are getting more and more shit and it's about time to resist the flashing colours and admit it.
Aaaaah comic book fans Not really there for the plot Or the theme's Or the writing Or the cinematography Or the editing Or the acting Just there to gawk at the characters they already love Thats why critics are giving this movie low ratings and fans are spamming high reviews Because a critic is forced to look beyond the legacy of the films character and look at a movie as a stand alone project While the mindless comic book fans are just waiting to see the joker do something edgy, even if all the things listed above are poorly put together This applies to Marvel and DC by the way
Look has a comic book fan im just gonna say, have you seen a superhero movie, because right now they are litterally the biggest things in hollywood ad comic book fans aren't that stupid. Look at Fantatic 4, or xmen apoclypse or Batman V Superman most comic book fans were critical of those movies, we still hate on movies that have been out for decades, go up to a batman fan and ask about batman and robin, he will go into a rant longer than the movie. As fans we are just as critcal but we can appreicate things differently. Suicde Squad just so happens to be the most recent example. There are comic book fans loving and hating this movie all for different reasons. I loved the movie because yes I liked seeing characters I already love done justice, I loved their dialouge and I loved how the actors portrayed them. The acting was great. While I can agree the plot was all over the place, it made sense in the way it was told, The editing has been exagerated but clearly some scences were cut. Nothing wrong with the cinematography other than a bit too much shakey cam at momments but not enough to get upset over. Its really not that bad a movie even if I wasn't a fan I wouldn't be pissed off that I saw it because it really wasn't that bad. At worst a 5/10 at best 8/10. Finally say what you will about Marvel but until they acutally produce a bad movie its dont accuse the fans of blindly stating its good
+MrRushhour4 u r a rare minority fyi. Fantastic 4 sucked for many fans due to the LACK OF ACTION which is a staple in any superhero film.....unbreakable is an exception.
GamerFoeBro Trust me as a fan Fant4stic sucked for countless other reasons, terrible story, terrible wirting, terrible effects, fucking up Doctor Doom, lack of joy and yes lack of action. Action isnt the only things fans care about otherwise, the flash and arrow would be despised as Tv shows Yeah unbreakable was a good superhero movie without action but thats because it wasn't well a comic book movie.
This reminded me of The Nerdwriter's video on Batman v Superman. This horrible tendency of DC to focus on moments rather than scenes is really messing up what could have been some super interesting films. And as much as they deny it: They are so obviously trying to replicate what Marvel has achieved with their franchise, while what they should be doing is create something DIFFERENT. We don't need a world where Marvel and DC have the same approach to superheroes (and just varying in the quality of their respective products), instead we need one where DC does its own thing. Big massive sigh. I mean, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I just wish I didn't have to.
Regardless of what people think of Marvel Studios films, one of the things that have occurred in their films from Iron Man to Cap America:Civil War is that Marvel cares and adores their characters. They embrace the cheesiness of their characters wholeheartedly, so that their films can have a sense of self-awareness to them. It helps general audiences invest in this fictional world where there are talking raccoons and trees, a man dressed up in a metal suit, a literal embodiment of American values, and a sci-fi version of Norse mythology-and not only does it work, but people (of all ages, gender, race) love and can identify with their characters. This is what WB/DC does not get about why Marvel Studios has found immense success and why Zack Synder, who is representing WB/DC says things like "Marvel heroes and films are 'flavor of the week'". Sorry for the rant.
Well Marvel and DC are pretty much opposites one is for the lighter side of comic's while the other one can go all out dark and deep at points so that is why most people have mixed feelings about the movies from both sides and there are more people by the reviews that either don't like the darker side of comic's. But don't get me wrong both sides can be pretty fun to watch and read or be dark to watch and read. Yah, I like DC because their isn't a huge cheese I feel that both have a huge array of work to be done so that can be very very hard to pick over who is better.
Holy crap was leto's joker cringe worthy.... And it's so gross that they've made Joker and Harley's relationship that way, where was the scenes of the joker slapping her? Where was the bit when he, you know, pushed her into the chemicals... (she didn't do it herself...) All I'm seeing now is dumb people hash-tagging them "#RelationshipGoals"... Ffs.. I cant actually believe this joker even exists now... need to watch The Dark Knight to cleanse my mind asap.
I guess they were trying to make their relationship look nicer bc I guarantee that, even if he had been abusive, people would still call it relationship goals, like with Tate and Violet in American Horrir Story. At least they're romanticizing a relatively healthy relationship rather than an abusive one. Idk just my view on it
Batman007 in the comics he pushes her in. the OC is pointing out how the movie cut out a lot of the Joker's abusive behaviour. the chemicals thing is a good example - originally he pushes her in. in the movie, she goes in voluntarily. again, i think they just wanted to make the relationship less controversial so that the viewers would like it more.
JackHoward fair enough so what about Pulp Fiction? Multiple story arcs, no obvious main character. I don't think you necessarily need one main character. Multiple main characters can work but obviously Suicide Squad failed to present it well.
+James Wheeler the difference is that those character arcs are explored fully and in a consistent manner. And the point of pulp fiction was to interlink a bunch of different stories. Hence the movie title. Suicide squad clearly didn't set out to do that.
everything about what you said sounds very accurate, except the music videos bit. the heathens music video is excellent and was the main thing that made me excited about the film.
I do not thik this is a legitimate reason. As Jack pointed out, sequels needs to be demanded by the fans and public, not imposed. This leads to things like this.
It's like Ralph always says: It's not a movie, it's a product. They're just trying to make it a franchise they can sell without giving a shit about filmmaking
Nah. I saw it yesterday and was quite disappointed. I mean even after the bad reviews, I had high expectations, because you know, fucking whiny critics. But fuck they were right, it was a bad shit storm. Though Harley kicked ass.
Nothing, but it did not work out in this movie. I' going to comapre Suicide Squad to Avengers just for the sake of an example. Suicide Squad is the first movie about these characters, we don't know their backstories yet we have to know them in order to understand the characters and their abilities. They try to push all their stories inside 2-3 minutes videoclips that shows something important in their lives. This was not enough and was quite cringey as far as I can say. Avengers waa also a mix of different characters however the most important members of the team have their own movies which helps a lot. If DC had this it surely would make a change. However I understand that they would not make several movies just to give us backstories on some characters.
They kept switching back and forth between Characters. I got the idea that Flag, Deadshot and Harley Quinn were the main characters yet they weren't important enough, but just yet? So you feel like "Just one more important dialogue, just a bit more of focus and I'll be certain that they are the main characters" but u don't get this dialogue or focus so in the end you're still not sure. All of the members of suicide squad were not equally important for the story yet the ones who were important were not important enough.
Xtrem Saiyan nope. Do you expect every single human in the cinema to study the background history of 10+ characters? No they just want to watch a damn movie.
I'm really disappointed. I agree woth everything you said. I'm incredibly angry at the fact that they showed that they had a Harley Quinn suit but they make the actor wear booty shorts and a tshirt. And with Cara Delavine's character they make her wear a bikni basically. Black Widow for example wears her body suit that can actually protect her!
But let's be honest Marvel is severely lacking in female characters! Despite how they're dressed, DC has already got a female-led film, (wonder Woman), a main female villain (Enchantress) and I think a Harley Quinn movie is pretty much confirmed too. Marvel's representation of women is so sparse it's practically non existent.
Becki P Have you not watched Marvel's netflix series Jessica Jones? Plus they have Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy who basically kicked all sorts of ass in the movie. Do you need Marvel to make a movie in which all women are the protagonists and men are the antagonists and have the title be "Why we need feminism in the MCU" in order to show there's female character development in the MCU? Wonder woman hasn't even came out yet. Stop bringing up examples that aren't even out. Also a Harley Quinn movie is not a good idea. Her character was designed to be the abused sidekick of the Joker who would always keep coming back to him, despite his negligence and cruelty. She's a side character. She's not meant to have a movie all to herself. It wouldn't work unless you completely not do Harley Quinn and do your own thing with the character, which will also not be received well by fans.
hadd93 I clearly referenced a female villain in Suicide Squad so NO I am in no way whatsoever saying women should always be heroes and men villains- that's just your warped perspective of 'feminism,' which btw I didn't even mention. All I want is equal representation of both men and women. Y'know we are half the population. Crazy right? Marvel clearly doesn't provide this, that's just factual. They are yet to have even one female led film with a main female protagonist OR antagonist. Not even one- Netflix discounted. That's kinda crappy. Only the white male is marketable apparently. So yes I give credit to DC for their diverse characters. I'm sure you don't, you're probably a white male who's already catered for by Marvel.
Becki P LOL I like how you just assumed I'm a white male. I'm not but that's besides the point. I just really enjoy systematically breaking down feminists' arguments when they have no idea what they're talking about. So let's begin. Let me preface that my comment about men being villains and women being heroes was meant to be taken as a joke. Clearly, you didn't get it but it's fine. Also I don't understand how you're willing to completely remove netflix from the category. Just cause DC doesn't capitalize and make TV shows centered in their universe doesn't mean that we should completely forget what Marvel's been doing. The reason those shows are in netflix is because they are slightly more grittier than the movie universe marvel is trying to portray, not because marvel hates jessica jones because she's a woman and she doesn't deserve screen time at all. If you know anything about Jessica Jones, then you'd know her story wouldn't mesh too well with the cinematic universe. You seem to be centered around that if Marvel had a female-led movie then everything would be ok, but since they don't then that's their fault. I mean they have Black Widow who plays a pretty integral role in Captain America's lore. And its not like she's a damsel in distress all the time like Mary Jane was in Sam Raimi's spider-man movies. She can hold her own and is a force to be reckoned with. Same with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy. She's super badass and doesn't need any man to save her. Plus there's also a She-Hulk movie that's supposedly in the works and to be honest, she seems more likely than your Harley Quinn movie. You don't need to have a female hero on screen to help give diversity. I mean look at the recent incarnation of the female-led Ghostbusters. Clearly, the movie was a cash grab to get feminists to come watch the movie and tried to be more than what it was supposed to be. What was even funnier to me is that they tried to be all politically correct and everything, yet they cast the black chick as the street smart one. Yeah, let's not give the black girl a PhD or something, she's definitely not worth that. If you must have a movie centered around a woman right now, why don't you check marvel's parent company disney (Yes, Disney owns Marvel and their entire universe) and see what they've done with the new star wars? Both Episode 7 and Rogue One have female leads, and they've both been getting amazing reviews. Also in regards to your statement about how only the white male seems marketable, please say that to the Black Panther, who is African American, had his debut in Civil War and will be getting a movie in 2017. Last time I checked, DC didn't even have a person of color. They only have Harley Quinn showing off her body to as many thirsty teenage boys as possible. Definitely a great way to get the ball rolling on feminism! Conclusion: Your arguments about having a female lead are so weakly based. It seems like according to you that as long as there's a female lead, then that's good! Doesn't matter if they're dressed like their strippers or are characters that have been known to be dominated by their boyfriends, as long as there's female presence then we're golden. Meanwhile, marvel has an absolute badass of a character in Jessica Jones, black widow, and gamora. They don't show off these character's figures to make the whole point about their sexiness. Meanwhile, I can think of two scenes already in suicide squad where Harley Quinn was treated as a sex object. Lastly, if you want diversity, start looking at other types of diversity other than the white female. So far, Marvel's got the african american male, damaged female and alien lifeform female. Where's DC on that one, huh?
Could you make like weekly lives on younow where you talk about films you saw and your opinion on them or about music ?? Or art, or anything !!That would be amazing, I love the way you think and see things !!
Yes but that's a small character driven drama set in one location with a lot of improvisation. This is a 200 million dollar effects and movie star driven movie. There's a difference.
Look fair point, The fact is I don't know how fast he is at writing but, that may of been a ample amount of time for him (from the final cut obviously it wasn't). I just don't feel that the 6 weeks argument isn't very valid as people work at different speeds.
+BleepBloop once again not a summer blockbuster Suicide Squad seems to not do anything at as to what other blockbusters do despite it supposed to bring a summer blockbuster. I will also say films that get scripted fast usually are pet projects as in this is an idea floating in their heads. Suicide squad already has a lot of source material and instead of looking into the actual material they've got a basic image but no real detail.
he wasn't saying the songs were bad, that's just an opinion he was saying that they didn't really make sense whereas guardians of the Galaxy, they all had a meaning to the main character
okay so i saw the midnight showing of suicide squad and i thought it was brilliant. obviously everyone had their own opinion, but i believe that the way they edited and produced the movie was very clever. I personally like how there wasnt a main character, i thought it would get confusing but it didn't and it kind of made you understand why they are there in that situation. people should watch the film and judge for themselves if they like it or not. i thought, after watching this, i wasnt going to like it. i thought it was going to be messy and unorganised, but i think that it goes with how the film is set, if you get what im saying. watch the film, judge for yourself. do not watch a film because some individuals say that they personally think its bad. make up your own mind. and just for reference, no i am not a hard core DC fan who is trying to make it sound amazing. this is actually the first ever DC film i have seen. i am just giving my honest opinion on what i think about it.
Why would the absence of a main character to drive the plot make it confusing? And how does the lack of a character make you understand why they're in that situation that doesn't even make sense there's a lack of logic here that makes your opinion hard to stomach
she might've meant that the messiness of the film's structure paralleled the messiness of the characters of the "suicide squad." not that they were written in a messy way necessarily, but their personas and lifestyles have been broken and scattered and tangled... perhaps structuring the film in the same way was the writer's/editor's way of letting viewers delve into that same convoluted-ness? or maybe this is just my inner english teacher looking too far into it lol :p
^^^^ im bad at explaining things so omgsicle (i cant see your name so sorry if i spelt it wrong) thanks that explains it better. i can see that there are a lot of people who arent going to see the film just because one person doesnt like it, i can see why they dont. i just happen to like it. dont watch not watch something based off what one person has said. but everyone can have their opinions, thats just mine.
+Natalia Matos Wow people forget that fast? I hated BvS as much as the next person & haven't seen Suicide Squad yet to judge for myself ladies, But let's not forget who started this game! Superman & Batman alone will out live the marvel universe "Facts". Also please never imply again that Marvel always shits out gold Lol.

also, haven't really read the comics but have some friends who have and as far as i know isn't the joker supposed to be a little more abusive than shown in the movie? harley and joker's relationship seemed kinda tame and was romanticised so much.
this is true! a lot of my fans who were both fans and not fans are saying this is....weird. joker x haryley's relationship isn't at all "hashtag couple goals" or whatever and is straight up an effed up relationship, he doesn't care much for the girl
Anna Dziekonska yeah as i've seen in certain fanart and stuff harley is treated like shit by joker but in the clips ive watched of them it seems like an okay relationship of two crazy people. it doesnt seem as bad as it should be
Ruth A exactly, this movie makes it all fine and dandy with how their relationship like why take that part out which is an important like element that's for both of them ya know? (apparently there is some talk that there WAS scenes showing off that side of the relationship with joker slaping her or something like that? I could be wrong because I saw this in a comment on youtube but we won't really know)
I totally agree with you, i also didn't enjoy the movie. The choppy editing was probably meant to add to the whole "edgy" and "fucked-up" vibe they had going on, they tried something new to support the dark feel that the movie was intended to have. And while it did its job on bringing across the message of these messed up characters and the unperfect world, it's true that it made the movie lack any structure and made it feel messy and chopped up.
Honestly, everyone is picking out the "one main character" point, but honestly I agree. It didn't even feel like there were lots of main characters. It felt like lots of supporting characters lost without an overall story arc to guide them. Very very messy film, and I was very disappointed considering all the hype.
Having now seen suicide squad and getting the idea of how DC seem to be going with their films, do you have any hope for the other films and if so which are you thinking will be the best?
+tekkara Iron Man is what started the MCU, give it a watch, worth it. It's before they started mixing in superheroes for the sake of having more superheroes.
+Natasha B I was mainly thinking about the DCU movies but I will grant you batman begins and the dark knight are 2 good films however they're overrated to a ridiculous extent and rises is a cluttered mess
***** They had the plan, but that was a subtle hint in an end credits scene, I imagine what tekkara takes issue with is the concept of everything being a sequel now. Since nothing came before Iron Man since it's the start, there's no necessity to do homework before watching it.
Please do more reviews Jack? I really enjoy listening because I feel like you really know what your talking about and listening to the points you make and bring up make me able to notice those factors in other films as well. I really enjoyed watching this!
Jared Leto was good as the joker from what little we saw him, in coming movies we will see more so what he is like. Then margot Robbie was quite good but just a bit over the top crazy not necessarily Harley Quinn. It's like they gave her the lines and said just act like your crazy.
Dude, I loved it. It was fucking fun. of course their isn't a single main character, it's suicide SQUAD. The whole damn team. Like what one character did you expect them to focus on?? That's just off base completely. And Jared Leto did amazing with what he was given. There is one scene with him that kicked this movie 10x higher on my list. His acting in that scene was amazing like always. Plus his and Harley's love story in it (although pretty dull) was nice. And Diablo's character was crafted very well. There were quite a bit of strong flaws, and pretty much the rest of the character's plot line were lacking a lot (especially boomerang's), But it was exciting. For a fun movie, which anyone paying attention at all for the last year would notice that that's what it was supposed to be and was going to be, it did fine. See it with friend, wait until it comes out. But this is the kind of movie you need your own opinion on. It did rush, and that's sad but I personally would see it again.
i agree that harley/joker's love story was dull, although based on the final cliffhanger, hopefully that can be fleshed out a bit more in the next one?
Just because a film is about a group of people doesn't excuse the fact that the characters haven't been explored though, the characters in films like The Breakfast Club and Civil War are explored much more deeply despite not having a main character/being about more than just one character, I think what he means about focusing on characters is that there was no real exploration of characters, just small introductions to many characters without them having any depth :)
+Em this movie is no where near the breakfast club or even civil war genre. Those movies were selling something completely different than Suicide squad. I did explain the lack of focus on its characters, which is a problem. But what I was talking towards was his problem with it not have a single main character.
+Christina Coma I'm not saying they are of the same genre, just that a film /can/ be focused around a group of people rather than have a main character and still explore these characters, like I said, I don't think his real problem was that there was no main character, just that there were no characters that were fully explored. Typically in mainstream cinema you have certain character types which an audience expects and to not have these can disappoint an audience (I know SS is slightly different as the central characters are villains however blockbusters do follow the same formula, of which a mainstream audience has become accustomed to and so not following this can mean an audiences expectations are not met, meaning they are overly not satisfied with the film, something that I think has happened here)
Hey Jack. I really appreciate the conversation that your videos tend to generate. I don't often see an audience actually furthering a discussion prompt in a youtube video anymore and it's nice to see respectful comments about the content you talked about. Haven't seen the movie, just wanted to point that out.
I have a mother who could never sit still. She did most of the work in the house, mostly because she wouldn't leave it not done long enough for anyone else to get to it. She had a habit of walking into the living room at random times, watching whatever we were watching on the TV for a few seconds, and gasping at all the right times. I think that's probably how most moviegoers are. They go into a movie, the movie tells them how to feel, and so they feel that way. Kinda reminds me of 19th century sentimental novels. The Lamplighter was just 200 pages of bad things happening to a girl, then she'd be a good Christian and not give a fuck, and then something good would happen, then the cycle would repeat. What terrified me is just how long it actually worked.
i agree, i watched it last night and thought it was really good but thats because i like the way the film was laid out, messy. it made it more interesting for me. and just so you know, i am not a DC fan, this is actually the first film ive seen by them.
One thing I don't understand is why is Enchantress only shown (in marketing I've seen) in fancy underwear? Did Cara get discount at Victoria's Secret or something? And was it really necessary to make Harley Quinn's hot pants shorter? I'm all for strong female characters whatever they're wearing, but it seems to me that they're only marketed for eye candy and pervert men with shrines of The Joker and Harley Quinn as relationship goals (which abuse my friend, if anyone actually ships it, please get help. Not at Arkham Asylum tho)
did you feel when watching the film that Harley was sexualised and the manipulative relationship between her and they Joker wasn't handled properly? (because that's what I've gathered from the reviews)
Watched the film the other day and the part Jack said about it not feeling like a film fits so much for me. I went into this with such high hopes that the negative reviews weren't going to be how I felt, but it was just bad. And oh god the soundtrack. On its own outside of the film I love the soundtrack, all great music that I really enjoyed, but in the film, it just makes no sense, pretty much all the songs had zero connection to the 'scenes' they were being used in. Just ugh, I feel so let down by this film, so disappointing.
:'( really was looking forward to it.. not anymore I guess. its great to see someone so passionate about film and really going into detail. would love a follow up video!
I really, truly, love your passion for film. You appear to gain loads of inspiration from things you see in films. Find your vibe, genera, style, within and run with it. I see genius!
Don't waste your money. It's REALLY a waste of money and time. As a flashy fun movie- I guess it works. But if you're actually interested in plot, theme, tone, the feeling of it, in the characters and what ACTUALLY MAKES A MOVIE- Don't watch it if that's what you're looking for. I went to see it despite the reviews and I couldn't agree with them more. I even went with a friend of mine who DIDNT watch the reviews, and she finally understood why there are so many bad reviews.
I didn't even think the trailers were very good to be honest. Everyone was getting hyped for this film but it just looked like a poorly written film with an all star cast
Yeah, I also hated this movie. I saw the potential in there but it was such a mess and so ridiculously boring and surprisingly safe considering the possibilities. Major disappointment. I feel like I deserve an apology from WB for being so let down and giving it a rating of 1/10 on my channel. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't.
hi jack!! u should definitely make another suicide squad review including spoilers because i'd love to hear your thoughts on certain moments in the film :) xxxx
I agree with pretty much everything, except with Jared Leto being a good choice to play the joker. I thought his acting was really bad. Even if he had only a few scenes, Heath Ledger could catch my attention since the first scene he appeared, Jared Leto only made me cringe. I do believe that he could've done it better even with all the editing/script mistakes. He didn't give joker a personality, he just acted out the "oh he's crazy and evil so i'll be crazy and evil", and that bothers me. He's more than that, you know? But yeah. The whole film was a disaster.
some things that frustrated me (spoiler alert) are that Harley depended so much on the joker and I feel like it was unnecessary. did she have to be rescued TWICE? is that their only way of including the joker? also how she was basically a walking sex toy. like when everyone was making comments on her "hotness" and when batman can't control himself so he kisses her? that made me so uncomfortable. one more thing adding on what you said, I felt a lot of lines were just out in for the sake of it. also the enchantress' voice was too over edited snd annoying to me but idk that's a small detail.
I agree with you but I just want to point out that I don't think batman was "kissing" Harley. He was giving her CPR because he had just rescued her from the car that was driven into the river. Then she woke up and kissed him because well she's Harley and that's how they were portraying her.
Harley depends so much on the joker because basically that's how her chatacter was created. She is meant to be completely obsessed with the joker and would do literally anything for him, despite him being highly abusive and manipulative. Originally she was just his sidekick...only recently in the comics she moved on and now does not depend from him anymore
Oh man, everything about that review was on point. "It felt like one big montage" is about the most accurate statement I've heard about it so far. Please do more of these!!
This was one of the worst super hero movies I had ever scene, this and fant4stic were the 2 worst modern super hero movies easily, the old fantastic fours, ghost rider, daredevil, freaking Electra and super man returns are all better than this movie, actually I don't know about Electra but yea you get the point
Lambert Brother That’s the point. People made movies with the intent of it standing on it’s own, but now everything needs either a sequel (the last airbender) or a cinematic universe (Marvel, every huge monster ever, every normal sized monster ever etc.). Hell, even Star Wars was made with the intention of only being one film, but everyone loved it some Empire Strikes Back was made
Legit watched it for the twenty one pilots song (no shame) and I had to watch the whole bullshit of a film that confused the hell out of me. And the song was literally the credits song. No
your points are so valid, the editing was very messy. However if you look at the film from the perspective of a literal comic book, i think it works in a way. The movie felt like a panel to panel comic. I didnt think it was supposed to feel quite natural. Clearly it was made to showcase a couple characters that are being brought into the DCEU franchise rather than focus on a main story. I largely agree with your review but i still enjoyed the film (looking forward to the extended version though).... classic DC trying to fit too much into it
you do know that RT is just a collective of reviews from basically every damn news paper, web site and entertainment media reviewers, just lumped into one site for ease, right????? All RT does is just gather all the reviews.
Jared has said he dislikes the film and he wished he had a stand alone joked film as many of his scenes were taken out like he had no purpose in the film :(( I feel so bad for the characters honestly,
There are so many themes and ideas they could of explored easily redemption, government corruption, what it means to be evil and good. Instead this POS movie was nothing
This film had the potential to be so good and that's what's made me angry
it was good...
chris20364 it's called an opinion, dude...
+chris20364 No. No it wasn't.
+Hyoga Saint 😂😂😂
You where probably expecting it to be great 9/10 and because it isn't that it's shit apparently
I'd rate this movie mediocre good 6-7/10
I didn't understand why P!ATD covered Bohemian Rhapsody and it's on the Suicide Squad album, yet the original was played in the movie? What lmao
EXACTLY, what the hell was that about?
Kawaii Walrus idk it's weird haha!
My biggest complaint: every single suicide squad member except Harley and Deadshot are so forgettable and useless that they can easily be cut out and almost nothing changes.
i agree, especially for captain boomerang,,, he was so irrelevant
was there a deadshoot in the movie?
i only saw Agent J
Why was Katana even in this movie and Croc....they did nothing and yet seemed more interesting as characters to me than Will Smiths take on Deadshot complete with typical Smith line delivery (urgh)....
Eddie Curtis Guess you can call it:
"Harley/Deadshot and their amazing bad friends."
everything was already cut out
Is it bad that this makes me want to see it more?
Please do, mate! I wanna know your thoughts :)
please yes!, and then make a video about it
I'm on the same page. As a fellow filmmaker, I want to see this train wreck of concept and execution... if only just to see what went wrong. Makes you appreciate when a film can actually make it through the ringer of corporate hollywood at least somewhat intact.
no! is not bad! its great!... this guy must have been paid to trow shit at it
Yes.
just watched it and I felt all these things. the thing that killed me the most was the cheesy dialogue like the 6000 year old witch saying "you don't have the balls" WHY THE FUCK WOULD AN ANCIENT GODLIKE WITCH USE THAT VOCAB?!?
ohhhh my god yes!!!
Hahhaha yes:') takes you out of the story completely
YAAAAS! Thank you for such perfect example of where the dialog just went completely south!
I think the keyword here for this movie is "why"
because she absorbed the mind of amander waller and her knoladge so she would know modern insults qhile looking at her mind. she has also got the memorys of doctor snow. FUCKING THINK.
+joshua powell dont be rude?
It still does not make any sense in my opinion either
the original suicide squad was super dark and then deadpool came out so they reedited the whole thing to make it quirky and funny turning into a turd pile
Been waiting for this since you almost had a meltdown on snapchat.
SAME
Same 😂😂
Same hahaha
yup
What's his snapchat?
Whereas I liked the Enchantress.
I disagree, Cara played the character just fine, she was just given some dumb lines.
Who else watched Finding Dory instead? :'D
I watched both on the same day 😂
amazingvickyisnotonfire
Lucky!
yup.
Yes. Of course. Dory is adorable and it broke my heart.
I agree with you, I thought it was a good film
+JackHoward What about a group of specialized killers/bad guys saving a city from the threat.
+JackHoward Heroes? Now I can't take you seriously anymore
Sad
Exactly. Is not a movie meant to be taken this seriously. It's just harmless fun. I loved it.
Finally someone intelligent. Yeah, this movie was a total mess.
Make a follow up video talking about spoilers. Based on that, I'm not going to watch it anyway.
Don't let it change your mind! It's just his opinion... Just saying you should probably base it on your own opinion
Don't let someone else rate a movie for you. Just because someone else didn't like the movie doesn't mean you will dislike it
+Aidan Tierney Some people trust a person's opinion if they feel like they connect with their way of thinking.
The first advert for Suicide Squad had a more coherent story than actual Suicide Squad
Sam Thomas You want some advice, go watch the animated films, SO much better
I absolutely love how passionate Jack is about film.
I'm glad I watched finding Dory instead now! :)
Same 🙌🏻
Just because he didn't like it doesn't mean you will dislike it. Don't let other people judge movie for you. It's just there opinion
shut up you're one of them people like omg I'm so relatable i watched finding dory i love finding memo and the lion king
Matthew0337 yeah I guess you're right.
Finding Dory was great
it was a mess, the truth is marvel really does make better movies
Agreed.
+JackHoward sadly yes, but I can't say the same about marvel being good with animation- one word... Disneyxd😭😭😭
The MCU is just generally more *together*, like it has wayyy fewer loose ends and meets all the basic criteria
RIP
I know nothing about Dr strange, Captain Marvel or Namor but I'm super excited to see them anyways. You know why? Because Marvel Studios clearly understands their characters and good filmmaking. They can introduce you a character that probably didn't know existed and make you interested.
Love ranty Jack. The studios efforts to please general audiences rather than make a good film are painfully obvious.
I was so excited for this film... now i'm scared :(
It's just his opinion! You should go see it for yourself and see what you personally think about the film :) there's also quite a lot of good reviews on TH-cam and Google so it's not all bad
I thought it would be really really good...
saw it last night. huge dissappointment
+idkyobro go fuck your self
same
the way they sexualized harley quinn in the trailers had me turned off from the start. so glad I didn't see this movie.
they didn't "sexualize" her. Harley is supposed to be that way. Have you read the comics?
eatdirtgrande then the comics are at fault, if she started out that way. i'm not big into the comics scene, but i have noticed a trend of portraying women as sex objects rather than people. but as i said, i don't know too much about it. what do you think about women's portrayal?
really? ohh so like superman being jacked as or batman being buff as fuck isnt sexualized at all???
Fuck off you dumb feminist
This movie should be call Suicide Squad music video.
Coming from a person who said amazing spider man 2 was "amazing"
Look we all make mistakes. I know that was wrong now.
what's wrong with amazing spiderman 2??? maybe i was distracted by how beautiful everyone was but i thought it was really good???
This made me laugh more than it should have :D
There's no plot, everything's really shallow, poorly explained and poorly executed, there's no plot.
free speech to anyone but spiderman two was an awful movie which was pretty much just made as a profit from the first wich is funnily something he said he hated
Just found your channel on the trending page. This review was class man, (there were a couple spoilery moments though). I assumed this was a review channel cause of how eloquently you put your points across. You've got to make a film review series
Thanks! I think I will start making more reviews. :)
+JackHoward yeah your really good at them
The movie is like this. You are watching your favorite team play
football, there is under a minute left and they are down by 2 points.
They drive the field making it to the 15 yard line with 1 second left on
the clock. You know you have this game won, an amazing comeback is
about to happen... the kicker comes out, lines up the shot... and shanks
it wide right, and all you can say is how the hell can you miss that!?!
That is this movie in a nutshell. The premise is the Avengers, but with
bad guys, a brilliant and fun concept. The characters are great, you
cannot help but love them, the actors are amazing. Margot Robbie steals
the show as Harley Quinn, Will Smith is surprisingly good as dead shot,
Jay Hernandez is wonderful as Diablo... it was the perfect storm, it
should have been a slam dunk, but the writing, the plot, oh so bad.. so
many holes, so many illogical moments, so many 1 liners fall flat, the
deep moments lack any emotion, Jared Leto as the Joker was a missed
opportunity as he was not really used at all and had little to do with
the story, it leaves you shaking your head and you just ask how did they
miss the chip shot? And the after scene? A waste. Once again DC
fails where Marvel excels, and I am at a loss to explain it, does
anyone read these scripts before they produce them? Look it is not a
total loss, as just some mindless entertainment on a sweltering Houston
day it will do fine, just do not expect anything exceptional. It looks
like it is doing well at the Box Office... but I do not expect it to
have staying power, this is Batman vs. Superman, not Guardians of the
Galaxy.
cool story bro
I'll probably get hated for saying this, but I really think Marvel produces better movies. I've never really fully enjoyed any DC films, but I love most Marvel ones. But it is just my opinion, don't get me wrong.
Especially when you look at the state of the DC CU... like its this a Batman V. Superman
my fave characters are Green Lantern and Flash.
Jindorek It doesn't!? I swear to god I've seen my sisters watching it haha
"Go on Cara, walk around the woods naked"
"Wait what?"
"It's called method acting Cara, do it"
i agree with everything. it sucked. but i had to pretend to like it bc the people i went with payed for my ticket.
paid*
I shouldn't be watching this video, i'm going to see Suicide Squad tomorrow 😂
Same
Same ahhh
i was going to see it tomorrow but now i don't think i will :/
Me too😂😂
I got early tickets for tonight
God dammit. I don't think DC have made a good movie since the Dark Knight. xx
+Damien Temiyi well she is right nothing after that dc have done well they need to learn from marvel films
The world isn't ready for all you are."
And that might be how a lot of people react, but that's not how Ma Kent reacts.
I felt the same about Spectre, what was that film about!?
Filler glossed over with a "poetic" ending
I agree with you, when it ended I was like "???? what just happened"
I was so disappointed with Spectre - I really loved Skyfall and the trailers for Spectre made it look faaabulous, but at the end of the film I just sat there blankly thinking "uh, what was all that about? Nothing. *shrug* that was disappointing."
it was about a middle aged man trying to get into the pants of a recently widowed woman and her daughter.
spectre was an embarrassing follow up to skyfall truly truly awful
i fucking knew it was going to be bad. the fuckton of fan service everywhere pisses me off so bad, like, you go to the cinema and you come out just as empty as you were. it just doesn't make an impact, like it used to. I used to love putting myself in the story of a movie or a cartoon when i was a kid, but that nostalgia has been kicked to shit by these excuses of movies that they keep shoving down our throats, which feel more like commercials than actual stories. recently there's been so much disappointment in the movie industry and it honestly just makes me so sad...
yes and for this reason my interest in watching movies is just drifting, everything is commercialised and the heart of the creator is missing
Just because he didn't like the movie doesn't mean you will dislike it
+Matthew0337 well he didn't just say he didn't like it, he went through why and i agreed. his review contained a lot of points that i dislike the most about today's movies, like fan service, lack of plot, etc. after seeing the trailer i kind of figured that it's going to be another attempt to please the masses while not focusing on the actual story. this reaction from Jact was kind of expected tbh. i guess i can't judge before i see it, but I'm just stating the obvious- new movies are getting more and more shit and it's about time to resist the flashing colours and admit it.
Agreed 100%
Right!? Like seriously what's happening
Aaaaah comic book fans
Not really there for the plot
Or the theme's
Or the writing
Or the cinematography
Or the editing
Or the acting
Just there to gawk at the characters they already love
Thats why critics are giving this movie low ratings and fans are spamming high reviews
Because a critic is forced to look beyond the legacy of the films character and look at a movie as a stand alone project
While the mindless comic book fans are just waiting to see the joker do something edgy, even if all the things listed above are poorly put together
This applies to Marvel and DC by the way
Look has a comic book fan im just gonna say, have you seen a superhero movie, because right now they are litterally the biggest things in hollywood ad comic book fans aren't that stupid.
Finally say what you will about Marvel but until they acutally produce a bad movie its dont accuse the fans of blindly stating its good
That's the truth.
+MrRushhour4 u r a rare minority fyi. Fantastic 4 sucked for many fans due to the LACK OF ACTION which is a staple in any superhero film.....unbreakable is an exception.
GamerFoeBro
Trust me as a fan Fant4stic sucked for countless other reasons, terrible story, terrible wirting, terrible effects, fucking up Doctor Doom, lack of joy and yes lack of action. Action isnt the only things fans care about otherwise, the flash and arrow would be despised as Tv shows
Yeah unbreakable was a good superhero movie without action but thats because it wasn't well a comic book movie.
Woooh I love generalisations.
Sorry for the rant.
nerdwriter's video was particularly poignant. totally agree with you as well.
King31395 Girl, shut up, This movie had a plot, but their was no story to this movie. It's an insult to films to say that Suicide Squad had a story.
Apparently they cut the scenes of him slapping her because people felt uncomfortable seeing it..
+brixtonlad1975 Oh well that makes sense because abusive relationships are known for being comfortable 👍👍👍
I guess they were trying to make their relationship look nicer bc I guarantee that, even if he had been abusive, people would still call it relationship goals, like with Tate and Violet in American Horrir Story. At least they're romanticizing a relatively healthy relationship rather than an abusive one. Idk just my view on it
Joker didn't push Harley into the chemicals. She threw herself in there to show she would do anything for Joker.
I don't think you need a main character. Post-Sean Bean Game of Thrones has no main character and it's still really engaging.
Television and movies are very different though
Television and movies are very different though
JackHoward fair enough so what about Pulp Fiction? Multiple story arcs, no obvious main character.
I don't think you necessarily need one main character. Multiple main characters can work but obviously Suicide Squad failed to present it well.
+James Wheeler the difference is that those character arcs are explored fully and in a consistent manner. And the point of pulp fiction was to interlink a bunch of different stories. Hence the movie title. Suicide squad clearly didn't set out to do that.
+James Wheeler I mean I guess that's kind of what you were saying? but yeah
everything about what you said sounds very accurate, except the music videos bit. the heathens music video is excellent and was the main thing that made me excited about the film.
No, not the Heathens music video. The film feels like a bunch of shit music videos.
JackHoward
ah okay sorry, i misheard. thanks for the warning about the film anyway, i was going to go see it but definitely not wasting my money now.
as much as I love twenty one pilots and the song heathens I do think the video for the song was bad
I agree on the franchise thing. I don't like it either.
imo, as long as they make good movies I dont see what the problem is
IF they make good movies
I do not thik this is a legitimate reason. As Jack pointed out, sequels needs to be demanded by the fans and public, not imposed. This leads to things like this.
it's all about the $$$$$
TonyDracon ??? shut up
It's like Ralph always says: It's not a movie, it's a product. They're just trying to make it a franchise they can sell without giving a shit about filmmaking
A very interesting review. I've yet to see the movie, but would you still recommend seeing it?
Yes please do! I think everyone should make their own opinion.
Nah. I saw it yesterday and was quite disappointed. I mean even after the bad reviews, I had high expectations, because you know, fucking whiny critics. But fuck they were right, it was a bad shit storm. Though Harley kicked ass.
If you want to watch it for the Joker
Don't bother
I loved it, go for it so you can form an opinion got yourself
wacth it bro. i loved it!!!!! the movie was fucking awesome
What's wrong with having many spotlight characters in 1 film?
All of the members of suicide squad were not equally important for the story yet the ones who were important were not important enough.
if no one knows the backgrounds to all the characters than there just dumb for watching the movie
Xtrem Saiyan nope. Do you expect every single human in the cinema to study the background history of 10+ characters? No they just want to watch a damn movie.
Well if there gonna bitch about not knowing it its there falt then
I honestly enjoy seeing you rant about anything, it's so great to hear your opinions and outlooks.
*with
But let's be honest Marvel is severely lacking in female characters!
I wish the video was longer and I wish you made more of these kind of videos !!
Jack, I love the fact you picked up on the soundtrack. No other review had picked that up
you have to admit heathens is incredible though?
am i the only one that thought it was a bit meh?
+Tayla Freegard yup
Breakfast club took 2 days to write
Yes but that's a small character driven drama set in one location with a lot of improvisation. This is a 200 million dollar effects and movie star driven movie. There's a difference.
Look fair point, The fact is I don't know how fast he is at writing but, that may of been a ample amount of time for him (from the final cut obviously it wasn't). I just don't feel that the 6 weeks argument isn't very valid as people work at different speeds.
The Cabin in the Woods was written in 3 days
+BleepBloop once again not a summer blockbuster Suicide Squad seems to not do anything at as to what other blockbusters do despite it supposed to bring a summer blockbuster. I will also say films that get scripted fast usually are pet projects as in this is an idea floating in their heads. Suicide squad already has a lot of source material and instead of looking into the actual material they've got a basic image but no real detail.
I really want jack to direct a full on like 2 hour film
It's so true about the songs there are only two songs I like which are heathens and sucker for pain
he wasn't saying the songs were bad, that's just an opinion
he was saying that they didn't really make sense whereas guardians of the Galaxy, they all had a meaning to the main character
Same but I just like heathens |-/
and purple lambogini
okay so i saw the midnight showing of suicide squad and i thought it was brilliant. obviously everyone had their own opinion, but i believe that the way they edited and produced the movie was very clever.
*THANK YOU!* I've watched other reviews, but none have connected with me more than this one.
You've just gained a sub.
DC Movies are slowly and gradually going down all the way through
they can't go down, when they've never been standing high to begin with
DC movies are just movies you watch while waiting for Marvel movies
+Natalia Matos Wow people forget that fast? I hated BvS as much as the next person & haven't seen Suicide Squad yet to judge for myself ladies, But let's not forget who started this game! Superman & Batman alone will out live the marvel universe "Facts". Also please never imply again that Marvel always shits out gold Lol.

Wasn't it intended that Back to the Future was one film? and the public reaction was so good that a sequel was made?
+steph overend exactly
+Jordan Shade hahahaha what is wrong with you
also, haven't really read the comics but have some friends who have and as far as i know isn't the joker supposed to be a little more abusive than shown in the movie? harley and joker's relationship seemed kinda tame and was romanticised so much.
this is true! a lot of my fans who were both fans and not fans are saying this is....weird. joker x haryley's relationship isn't at all "hashtag couple goals" or whatever and is straight up an effed up relationship, he doesn't care much for the girl
I could be wrong because I saw this in a comment on youtube but we won't really know)
Anna Dziekonska i saw talk about deleted scenes too! not sure how valid they are tho and stuff
Ruth A that is true, if it is true why take it out? (maybe they might add it when it's on blue ray and dvd? :o)
How were the female characters treated in the film?
Marvel generally make decent movies with a few great ones. DC generally make terrible movies with a few good ones.
Annoyed at the film, but I really think the actors were brilliant. Especially the Joker, the Enchantress and Harley Quinn. They were brilliant
The enchantress just danced about, she looked ridiculous
The Enchantress sucked so much I became impotent.
She just danced around and spoke with a weird tone.
Jared Leto was good as the joker from what little we saw him, in coming movies we will see more so what he is like. Then margot Robbie was quite good but just a bit over the top crazy not necessarily Harley Quinn. It's like they gave her the lines and said just act like your crazy.
Also enchantress was terrible, the worst thing about this film is her and her brother and how they are the villains.
Switch the enchantress out with Deadshot and you'd be right.
It did rush, and that's sad but I personally would see it again.
i agree that harley/joker's love story was dull, although based on the final cliffhanger, hopefully that can be fleshed out a bit more in the next one?
dude i agree with you completely
21 SECONDS ACFTER UPLOADING, REIGHT AFTER THE SNAPCHAT THAT TOLD ME IT WAS UP
THANKS TO YOU JACK
Funny seeing this in my recommended after Jack posted his twitter review of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad.... it’s like night and day!
Disagree completely, thought the film was amazing
found the dc fan
i agree, i watched it last night and thought it was really good but thats because i like the way the film was laid out, messy. it made it more interesting for me. and just so you know, i am not a DC fan, this is actually the first film ive seen by them.
If you thought this was a good movie your opinion on any form of cinema or visual entertainment shouldn't be trusted.
dude its just an opinion. people are entitled to like what they like. while it has big flaws i still thoroughly enjoyed the film. gawwddd
Me too!
THIS FILM HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL
AND THEY FUCKING RUINED IT
Please do more of these types of videos, rant or otherwise! I love hearing you get in-depth about a single film
I'm so upset that Suicide Squad is getting bad reviews :( I've been so excited about it for ages.
I really, truly, love your passion for film. You appear to gain loads of inspiration from things you see in films. Find your vibe, genera, style, within and run with it. I see genius!
I'm so nervous to see this movie after all of these reviews
Don't be, a lot of people liked it (Including me) Don't listen to the reviews :)
I liked it. You might as well and craft your own opinion.
Despite it's flaws, it's still enjoyable and I had fun watching it
Don't waste your money.
You should still watch it on a tuesday night or something, someone else's opinion shouldnt matter when you have your own personal taste and opinion!
YESSSSS I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
and yes please make another one with spoilers
Just tell me is it worth watching or not. Need immediate replies please.
Jack 's RAGING
I wish I had this guy's epic ranting skills.
If there's two things I love it's 1. Jack Howard and 2. Film reviews
please continue to marry these two beautiful things
I want it to be clear that I actually do really like this movie but not everything about it.
Hated the way this guys says tomatoes
LOL
Good review though
that's the british accent, if you don't like it then you're going to have trouble talking to british people..
not like the english language is designed to be spoken by people with an English accent...
We're British we invented words, we'll tell you how to say them!
+ConnorBaker just saying you know a high part cent age of our words are Latin and Greek rooted🙄
+Aidan Tierney it's a joke m8
Who agrees that the best joker is heath ledgers in the dark knight?
You are perfect and said exactly what I was thinking! And your women and film video was great as well. definitely subscribing!
I came out asking myself and others ''What did I just watch?''
This was one of the worst super hero movies I had ever scene, this and fant4stic were the 2 worst modern super hero movies easily, the old fantastic fours, ghost rider, daredevil, freaking Electra and super man returns are all better than this movie, actually I don't know about Electra but yea you get the point
itsyaboi BIGD Even Batman and Robin succeeded in being a good film for kids, this just fails
In fairness, BTTF never intended to have a sequel. They shot the ending as a joke, and audiences loved it so much they decided to make a sequel
No
this is so true
Definitely agree with him
your points are so valid, the editing was very messy. I largely agree with your review but i still enjoyed the film (looking forward to the extended version though).... classic DC trying to fit too much into it
Rotten Tomatoes is pretentious as hell though
But nice rant, I agree :D
you do know that RT is just a collective of reviews from basically every damn news paper, web site and entertainment media reviewers, just lumped into one site for ease, right????? All RT does is just gather all the reviews.
do you know what the word "pretentious" means???
Anyone who describes Love Actually as "overstuffed with too many stories" doesn't get my approval
+Chutorial Channel because they don't agree with you ?
The thumbnail is fucking brilliant
Jared has said he dislikes the film and he wished he had a stand alone joked film as many of his scenes were taken out like he had no purpose in the film
:(( I feel so bad for the characters honestly,
There are so many themes and ideas they could of explored easily redemption, government corruption, what it means to be evil and good. Instead this POS movie was nothing
