I’ve been running Amsoil fuel efficient ATF in my Ram 8HP transmission since 60,000 miles now at 85,000. It works fantastic no issues at all. I also used a PPE pan with replaceable filter. I’m very pleased
Yay! We spoke about this days ago. Fight the good fight!! Change your fluid earlier than they say and also don’t believe lifetime fluid or OEM only fluid nonsense. The Amsoil Signature Series and OE Fuel Efficient ranks high on the RAT540 blog
My ZF 6HP drains about 5 quarts. Yes I used the Amsoil OE fluid. On my next change, I will lower the valve body and change the bridge seal, connector sleeve, and the 4 rubber seals. I probably will get more than 5 quarts when I do this
there is transmission cooler lines on my Acura, I put little extra above the mark on cold. On my Honda there is no transmission cooler lines so i would not overfill it.
Can you also service an Xdrive transfer case, front and rear differentials not using bmw fluids? I’m thinking of using Redline MTLV or something light for the transfer case and Valvoline 75W90 on the diffs because they tested well…
They want to keep money in house and use fear to scare people from using better quality atf. If it was not compatible I would not be trying in my ZF transmission. I use only compatible high quality product in my vehicle and others.
3 months driving and no damage. It shifts better and less hunting for gears. Color is not an indicator for quality it’s just to scare people away from using better fluids
My wife always goes to dealer - they have not and will not service this trans.. car has 100k now - wife drives like granny , im going to have a look at it . Will do a dump and fill first. Chrysler pigs.
I went to my local dealer, and they said they don't do it. So....find a dealership that will. It wasn't hard....I found one just 15 minutes away in Edmonton, and they said no problem.....(I'm the boss, lol).....they did feel the need to explain the risks, and said they would do it, but that I needed to sign a waiver. I said no problem. I have 122 000 km on my Jeep, mostly highway kilometers. Just so you know, ZF themselves, recommend a fluid change between 50 000 to 80 000 MILES, or 8 years. So, who are you going to believe.....the people who make the transmissions....or the people who sell them in their cars? The reason why dealers don't like doing it, is because there IS a procedure to follow for getting the correct amount of fluid in the transmission, AND, they only expect vehicles to last as long as the transmission before they sell it, or wreck it for other reasons. Most people don't know how to take care of their cars.....they will let the bodies rust out then throw the car away. DIY are able to do it, but follow the procedure. The procedure is also out-lined in the Haynes repair manual. I got the fluid changed, and the filter/pan, and have had no problems.
@@mikeprice8307 I read on the internet the reason why dealers don't do transmission oil was because years ago they created more problems by not knowing the proper way to refill (which we know now, how to do - refill, run the engine, let the new oil circulate up in to the clutch plates and oil coolers, and then add more and re-check the oil level until it drips out the fill hole when hot) and ZF an others wouldn't warranty broken transmissions due to servicing errors. So the dealers just said "lifetime" which basically means until your lease is up and you buy a new car.. 3 years.. maybe 5.. that is what they consider lifetime.. not lifetime forever but lifetime meaning until your dealer new car warranty or first owner lease expires.

how do you like your 6.4 engine and what fuel economy do you get?
Did the very same about 1y ago with my Ram 1500 Longhorn. Works well. Wish PPE put more magnets in their pan tho

I will continue to research for aftermarket fluids that actually protect and are compatible 👍🏽
There are other options for transfer case besides oem
Here is one Transmission fluid DTF-1 lifetime nonsense, damage is done by false advertising by car companies

@@repairvehicle ahh Icic! You’re using the Shell supplied bottle available on FCP Euro among others! I also see Triax and Ravenol have options as well
Aren't ZF transmissions not compatible with ATF? I thought you're only supposed to use ZF fluid in these transmissions?

Was the orignal ATF oil color green ? I have zf8hp50 want to try Amsoil ATF but its Red and im worried will damage the transmission
Yes it was green. Why would it damage?
3 months driving and no damage. It shifts better and less hunting for gears. Color is not an indicator for quality it’s just to scare people away from using better fluids
Thank you sir for your reply 😊 you have given me the confidence to try
Yea the green is just a dye
Didn't change the pan/filter?
Please remind me what I said in the video?
I believe you changed the o-ring
Isn’t that the wrong fluid ? Supposed to be light green color 8speed fluid
No it’s not wrong fluid, it’s better fluid than oem.

Why they won't?
@mikeprice8307 what?
@@repairvehicle It's true. Lots of dealers won't do it and claim it's lifetime.

BMW? fluid changes are not really where the concern is, but their purposely designed low reliability
You cannot have good reliability with low quality fluids
