I’m doing my own experiment atm. Bought a brand new 2024 Toyota Camry. Have been running valvoline 0w20 instead of the recommended 0w16. Oil changes every 5,000 miles. So far I’m at 23k miles I did one oil analysis and it came back perfect. Let’s see what happens long term !
Liqui Moly is the most standard engine oil on the european markets. Its not bad and not great. But its been known for years trough collecting and analyzing lab results that their additive package is just too far behind other brands. Ravenol is the best oil brand in Germany.
I am in the USA, and even with crazy prices for it, due to only ONE allowed distributor, I use Ravenol's most excellent DXG 5W-30. To me, it is one of THE best oils in the whole world, not just Germany! 👍 (I even stocked up on it to avoid having to pay Trump's tariffs raising it to way way beyond Motul V series and Millers Nanodrive price ranges here. 😉)
Sooo true. I’ve got a bunch of drivers in my family and it’s a constant battle to get them to change oil. Less important what you use, but that it’s replaced in a timely manner. BS that the young drivers think they can go extended ranges because they used some expensive super oil.
@@repairvehicle Can't get Valvoline restore and protect here in the UK, it's on ebay of course but gotta but it from the USA....it aint cheap either! Thanks for the video btw.

There can be fuel dilution in a direct injection engine. The injector spray pattern could force more fuel onto the cylinder walls and that fuel can get by the rings. Honda is a very good example of fuel dilution in a direct injection engine.
Lots of cold starts and short trip driving will get fuel into the oil in any engine, be it port-injection or direct injection. It's partly due to emission regulations as well.
12 (Pennzoil 1,949 miles) v's 19 (liquid moly 973 miles) ppm wear metals ~+58% more wear in half the distance. That's shockingly bad... but demonstrates the benefit of measuring wear with oil analysis. 🙂
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4.0 one 1GR-FE with about 220,000 miles on it I’ve ran nothing but Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30. I have no issues with it. The engine run flawlessly and completely silent. I have heard a lot of good things about Pennzoil that will run even quieter and also that at idle Pennzoil has higher oil pressure than a lot of other oils. I had Blackstone laboratory. Send me two test sample kits and I’ll be doing 5000 mile oil changes with the mobile one then buy some pennzoil 5-30 do that in 5000 miles and see what that comes up with. Again, I have no problem with Mobil 1, think it’s a fantastic oil. Just want to see what it is if Any difference between that and the pennzoil.
What are the comparison of the pensoil 0w-16 vs the mobile one 0w-16. In currently using the mobile one. Im currently doing oil change like every 5k miles. My car has direct and port injection.
do your oil changes at 3k intervals or 6 months whichever comes first, otherwise you will be experiencing oil consumption before you know it. Based on the information available at both companies website, pennzoil is better option.
Yes. In early 2000s I had Toyota echo and run highway miles full synthetic oils every 5k miles and end up with high oil consumption right after 100k miles. These new engines run hot and fuel dilution cuts oil performance in half time.
@repairvehicle great to hear. I am currently running Amsoil Signature Series 0W30 in my Jeep Gladiator 3.6. I have had elevated iron on my last two oil analyses. I did a full 5k oil change interval and iron was elevated so I dumped that fill and ran a 1500 mile oil change interval. It indicated elevated iron. The rest of my wear metals were close to universal averages. Both the elevated runs were with Quaker State Full Synthetic 5w30. During the initial 5k run with high iron, there was some extended idling. Not so much on the short run. Thoughts?
@repairvehicle 31 on a 3800 mile sample( I thought it was closer to 5k). 12 on the 1200 mile short run. For reference it was16 on the previous 5, 074 run before it hit 31.
Manufacturers specifications for lubricants is the minimum requirement. Something that most people don’t follow is manufacturers recommendations for “extreme operating conditions “. What are extreme operating conditions ? Most places in Canada where I live. Extreme cold, extreme heat and dusty roads and heavy snow moisture,,,means frequent oil changes. Many people purchase expensive oils, and don’t understand that it needs to be changed frequently Becuase of operating conditions. Good quality full synthetic and frequent changes.
Liqui moly didn't impress me 6 years ago, and doesn't surprise me with your tests. They seem to be far behind in newer technology in oil formulations. I have used penzoil ultra platinum, and Quaker State ultimate durability. Both very good oils. They keep the engines so clean, no varnish no discoloration at all. This suggests that the ring lands and rings are also very clean, which you need more so these days with low tension rings.
That pennzoil is dexos approved so it is the platinum not ultra platinum ! Its all my 2002 chevy ZR2 gets ! Great oil for the price ! The LTG base oil technology is amazing ! Specially for the price ! $25 for a 5 qrt jug all day long at walmart !
It still makes me laugh..... Liqui Moly doesn't have any Molybdenum in their formulations. I would never use a product like that, especially in the engines of this current age. And that just isn't the Euro versions of their oils, it is across the board. Pennzoil is far superior and that isn't even my go-to oil of choice these days. Ultra Platinum is great but there are better out there.
@@lothar52 Valvoline Extended Performance, Valvoline Advanced, Valvoline Restore and Protect, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Amsoil Signature Series, Redline High Performance are all better than either one of of tested options.
