    I have been using Kirkland puppy pads inside large storage lids, so that the fuzzbutts won't slip in it (also easier to clean). 😁 I recommend Costco pads because they are waterproof at the bottom, but will do the job of soaking up the mess (hence absorb the smell) and the cost is economical.

      That's a good idea too, pee pads are very convenient. I don't use them only because of waste and extra cost.

      Did you end up making it?

    But... instead of buying the storage tub I could buy a $5 litter pan ...
    Do you think this would work with cardboard ? 😂

    So is this usable without litter? I have totes that I cut a hole in and put litter in. I am trying to save money and go with something I can do that I can just wash every day. Hoping this is how it can be done!

      I use newspaper. About 8-10 sheets, fold them so there's 2 inch rise to cover any poop sprays. Never bought litter. Don't even have a cage. All my ferrets are free roam 24/7. I just block any undesirable areas/holes with cardboard & duct tape.

    So are they trained to see the plastic as where they should poop or are they just like “hey a corner” and poop

    • @FroyDestroy
      @FroyDestroy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nikolas Rose 123123 “hey a corner” and poop is moar suitable lol

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, they don't actually like to go on the plastic, but you can train them not to go on the floor, only on pee pads or in litter boxes. Ferrets have an instinct to always go in a corner. You can train them which corner to use. Sometimes it's easier to just block off all corners but a couple and leave litter boxes or pee pads in the available corners.

      @@Ferret-farm its so much easier to just put litter boxes in all corners then block them off, then you get hidden poops LOL

    Any tips on securing it against the wall. I use this method when my ferrets are roaming but they like to move it from the wall and once they do that they won’t use it anymore so they only end up using it half the time

      I used shipping tape or adhesive hooks and made a whole in the box to put rope through it and hang the rope loop on the hook.

    Wait if there is no litter then that’s good! It won’t make you spend so much money on just litter!

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! and also no waste! I always use litter boxes with no litter and just rinse them off with water and flush it down the toilet! It's also a lot faster, since you can't put litter box filler down the toilet and need a trash bag for it.

    was she trained to use litter boxes?

    • @Geoffrey454
      @Geoffrey454 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sahra Abdi must have been, but ferrets do naturally look for corners to go to the bathroom.

      She was not trained until she was about 2 years old. But yes, she was trained before filmed this video.

    Hi, I really like the idea of the clear container! My "Little D" is about 3 years old and he has a large cage with one level (it used to be one of those black wire dog kennels). He has a good size litter box in there that he uses beautifully; however, I let him roam in our breakfast nook, too, and he potties EVERYwhere, not just in corners. I have housebroken many dogs and cats, but ferrets are more confusing to me, and I've been discouraged to try litter boxes in this larger area. I'm simply crazy about Little D--except for the bathroom thing! What is it that makes ferrets want to go where they go? I need a Ferret Whisperer lol! Thanks so much!

      Monique Loupe If you try litter trays that are too small then he will not want to potty in it, he needs to be able to plant all four paws in the litter tray, if you actually have litter in it that your ferret likes then you are golden 💛. Your ferret may be pottying in other places because he has a medical issue that makes him go to the bathroom in other places. Here is a video I recommend th-cam.com/video/FTxV47OAaYQ/w-d-xo.html

      Your ferret will usually need to go after it wakes up. Try grabbing D from her cage when she sleeps and putting her in the litter box you want her to use outside of her cage. If she jumps out, keep putting her back in the box, it could be 10-15 times. If she doesn't do anything put her back in her cage and try again later. If she goes in the box, immediately give her a treat and a great play time. Try repeating it for 2-3 weeks in a row. It should be enough for her to remember it and use it consistently. I trained all my rescue ferrets like that including the one in this video.

    So there is no litter required?

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use it with no litter, but you need to make sure you rinse it off after each use, or your ferret won't use it if it's dirty. I use these "invisible" litter boxes only around the apartment, for ferret room/cages I use deeper ones that have grills. So ferrets can use these boxes multiple times without stepping into the mess.

    I’ve watched this over and over again and just don’t understand how you got the lip in the front

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure what do you mean “a lip”?

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean the lip in the front? I took a plastic container and cut off two sides of it to be 1" tall and left the other 2 sides as they were.

  • @lillianhaynes942

    How did you cut the plastic with scissors every time I try it just shatters 😓

    • @Ferret-farm
      @Ferret-farm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      try blowing hot air from blowdryer, it makes plastic soft and flexible, so you can cut through even the most fragile/ tick plastic. For this particular litter box I only used scissors. You may have picked a wrong plastic container or may be the scissors are dull.
      I hope this helps, good luck!
