      I would think that MLS teams in a SSS with only 20k like my team, would move to an NFL stadium for that Miami game. If I were FC Dallas I would've played it at the Cotton Bowl or even Jerry World. Houston could sell out 70k at the Texans Stadium.

    Messi and Busquets coming to Inter Miami is reminiscent of when Pele, then Franz Beckenbauer & Giorgio Chinaglia came to the New York Cosmos during the mid-1970s in the old North American Soccer League (1968-1984) while I was a teenager. Even went to see Pele and the Cosmos vs the St. Louis Stars at Busch Stadium in 1977, I believe we'll see more of this across MLS as the league grows wealthier from tv and streaming contracts, as well as the franchise fees new teams pay to join MLS. St. Louis City SC's franchise fee was $200 million, and the new team in San Diego debuting in 2025 is paying $500 million. I see a time in the near future where MLS will be offering contracts above those of the biggest European clubs for the elite-level footballers, and those players will sign with them instead.

Especially, Taylor. He's been on a tear. You should check out the next game of the leagues cup against Atlanta United.
    Is it too late for us to make a playoff run? No. But, we are 12 points back and have to play almost flawlessly to make noise this MLS season. It's definitely not impossible. Candelaria has been excellent in goal for us. Jordi should be able to help solidify our defense.

    They have to make up 12 pts in 12 games, which is going to be tough, particularly as some of those games are during international breaks when Messi is going to be with Argentina. And if they somehow manage to do that, they will be playing most of the playoffs on the road. They have a better chance in this Leagues Cup because they are on the easier side of the bracket and should make at least the quarterfinals before facing a challenging team. They are also in the semifinals of the US Open Cup. Finishing Top-3 in the Leagues Cup or winning the Open Cup qualifies them for next year's Concacaf Champions Cup, which would then give them a shot at making the expanded World Club Championship. From Martino's statements, that is his priority for what's left in this season. But even that is going to be tough. Several of the top LigaMx and MLS clubs are in excellent form so far and for the Open Cup they have to play the semifinal away to MLS leaders Cincinnati, who are unbeaten at home this season and just thrashed the LigaMx leader a few days ago. The only possible sliver lining is that a couple of Serie A clubs have come in with big offers for Cincy's second best player (Barreal) and they would miss him if he goes.

  • @KevinQuinn81
    @KevinQuinn81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As an NYCFC supporter, I can't complain about aging, big-money players coming to MLS but no matter how you feel, it doesn't always guarantee success. We didn't win a title until we got rid of Pirlo, Lampard, and Villa and let our young talent and our lesser-heralded experienced players gel and come into their own. Zlatan brought success to LA Galaxy but never won a cup although Beckham and Keane did with the same team but that was longer ago. Carols Vela led LAFC to a title last year but he was much more in his prime when he first went there. Bale helped them win but only as a super sub. They and most other recent MLS Cup winners used youth and savy vets to get them over the top. What I think is bigger for Miami is them getting Busquets and Alba. Having 3 proven winners with experience is better than 1. They still have to gel with the other players and that's going to be the deciding factor to them. Also, the playoff format of MLS causes a lot of great teams to falter. Some of the best teams in MLS history (including Red Bull NY, Philadelphia Union, New England Revolution) have never won MLS cup. It's HARD.

    Yes, the Leagues Cup is a relatively new mid-season cup tournament featuring teams from MLS and Liga MX. It used to just be a mid-week tournament showcasing top teams from each league but this year they are pausing the season and including every team in each league with the 2 defending champs getting a buy to the knockouts and the remaining 45 teams being put into 15 groups of 3. Top 2 in each group join the champs in a 32-team knockout draw. Knockouts start August 2, final is set for August 19.

    I live in the Portland area so this is Timbers country. Our team is struggling to stay in the Western Conference playoff hunt, so I'm not feeling threatened by his arrival. I'm actually quite enjoying it given how MLS is now the envy of the soccer world & the fact that Messi is a genuinely good guy (especially compared to Cristiano Ronaldo who exudes arrogance). If you're a die-hard fan of an Eastern Conference team you're not thrilled w/ this development, yet you'll still be compelled to watch him. Everywhere Miami goes on the road is now officially sold out.

    I think it's too late this year. But with a big run they could make the playoffs. I'm an LAFC fan but i'm a fan of what's going on cause i've seen it before and truth is it's easier said than done. Busquets never plays at altitude, Alba doesn't play at altitude. We have teams at altitude. And the US in summer is hot as hades, plus it's the equivalent of champions leauge travel distances every other week. Messi i think will be fine but who knows if he needs breaks, Breaks from the artificial pitch wear on the body. And it's a league of largely young north and south americans and lower teir africans all young and hungry. We've seen what team that just runs hard can do even in the champions league to over come pure talent. So i think it's like Talent vs legs and youth. Messi will have no issue winning on talent. But i think guys like busquets who in two games has already nearly given away goals on bad passes cause he clearly expected more time on the ball, i think it will take a moment to adjust to new surroundings. Also they aren't playing with the same quality of player either so there's that too. But i think with a preseason they'll be way better.

    Miami is last in the table and must climb into the top 9 to make the playoffs. They have 12 games left to climb about 8 or 9 spots up the table. MLS is split into Western Conference and Eastern Conference. One has 15 teams the other 14 until San Diego begins in 2025. Then we will have an even 30 teams. For now the top 9 teams in each Conference make the playoffs and eventually the MLS cup championship will be played between the 2 Conference finalists. We also crown The Supporters Shield winner for the top team in all the league. We don't have promotion and relegation YET, so the American way in all sports is a playoff format for the most coveted trophy which in MLS is the MLS Cup. With our second tier of soccer becoming so big I forsee a day when MLS has around 36 to 40 teams. And from their HOPEFULLY relegation will begin. For example if we someday do get to around 36 teams we could have MLS 1 with around 20 teams and MLS 2 with 16 -20 teams. Then we could start promo relegation with USL becoming the 3rd tier.

    To answer your question I’m happy for the profile that this will raise the profile of MLS on a global stage, it’s what we needed. On the other hand MLS loves to pamper and baby teams that get bigname players and give them preferential treatment in things. I don’t like that. Not to mention Miami were handed sanctions for cheating by breaking roster rules once already and they’ve only been around for four years so they’ve shown they aren’t afraid to break the rules to get what they want, and now their reward is getting to stretch the rules even farther to sign three world class players and get praised for it. So yeah, inter-Miami was a team I was always impartial and had the whatever attitude towards, but now I hate them. I just hate them because I know how it’s gonna go. With how corrupt the U.S. Soccer Federation is in general, think of Turkey’s or Nigeria’s and you are thinking of ours, I wouldn’t be surprised of match fixing down the road to get Miami a trophy for Messi either.
