- Thank you Accurate for making this video possible, and setting me up with exactly what I was looking for! This was my first time ever feeling out the Accurate Tern 2 400, and I am very pleased with the overall feel of this reel! It casts with ease, even for super light lures and small surface irons, and feels very comfortable and solid!
It has a "Twin Star Drag" technology, which means there is a dual surface drag, one on either side of the spool, allowing for smoother drag and a lot of power. There are also centrifugal breaks, which helps reduce the amount of backlashes while casting.
Towards the end of the test casting session, I was casting a Tady 9 Light (a old discontinued small surfcae iron), and It was handling just fine with little to no backlashes!
I am really looking forward to putting this reel to the test in the near future, and hopefully checking off some bucket list catches, with this new set up!
Thank you Accurate Fishing for setting me up with the right reel to make this possible!
Thank you all for watching, and I hope you enjoyed this episode! Make sure to like and subscribe to the channel!

Ray, I love your videos! Whenever me and dad talk about fishing I think of that clip of yours where the one captain says "unless you're one of those guys who uses surface iron for everything" and then it zooms in on you smirking! 😂
I really appreciate it man, thank you! I'm struggling to remember what video this would be hahah! do you remember the title of this video?
I couldn't' remember Cesar's name. Video title is "Tuna Lures & How to Fish Them | Eric's Tackle" clip is at about 4:40.
Glad to see this back. One of your first vids i saw was your first cast that earned a sub too. I Have a new black 500, but havent gotten a chance to play with it yet. I took all the cast control brakes off, regreased it, and it feels way better than it did out of the box. If youve never used a newell, the tern2 is the closest in feel to them than any other reel ive fished. Maybe its because both are US made? Feels great in hand/on the rod. Cant wait to use mine.
I really appreciate this feedback! Thank you for the continued support!
I fished this one right out of the box, and haven't yet played with the centrifugal breaks.
I also have been against casting a Newell, I'm not going to lie lol. I am afraid of liking them too much, and converting to all newell for casting. I do feel a little bit more comfortable with up to date product, because if I ever need reel maintenance, it will be easy to find replacement parts!
Super smooth cast on my Sabre. Caught my first surface iron yellow on a tern 2 500
Nice man! I might look at the 500 for my other jig stick, I do really like how this feels!
Cesar moves to Accurate, you buy an Accurate. Love it
You deserve it your vids are very good
I really appreciate it man, thank you so much!
Bro I been fishing with accurates forever. You not gonna regret it! Tight lines!
This is my first accurate reel, and I am definitely happy with it!
SUP......Jus Lurking🎣
Aaahhhh, I see! Because no biters!
Ray,congrats on bagging a new Accurate reel! I love these types of videos because they emphasize what we all should be doing prior to any trip, casting. Far to often I'm on trips were people have spent serious US legal tender (cash) for their equipment and are clueless on how to use it.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t one of those people lol. I bought a Trini 20 and Calstar 100J Mag before even knowing how to cast conventional reels or long rods, and first time ever casting it was on a boat! Big mistake.
Definitely need those practice sessions before being put into the real game with others around you to avoid any casualties
Awesome video. I found this information to be quite helpful. Can you please do a follow up video on the tern 500 and cast full size jigs.
I can try, if I end up getting a Tern 500.
Definitely thinking about it, so we shall see!
Reminds me of my 93 baby ulua, I used to be able to cast under 1oz hard baits to tady c’s as far a 90yds on a good cast. Whipy rods are too much fun
Absolutely my favorite reel for throwing irons and plugs
Casts with ease for sure!
Hi Ray was wondering if you were gonna be at Bart hall this year or PCS
I may be working PCS again this year, but not 100% sure about Bart Hall. I’ll most likely walk around and shop Bart Hall though!
You ought to try a all glass 530 either calstar or seeker more of a traditional 9ft (25,30) jig rod
Is this factory cast control or did you disable any brakes? I disabled all on my 500 and it casts great. I feel Trinidads are a little better at casting, but these Terns have better drag and feel really solid when fighting fish
I was casting it stock out of the box. Definitely will have to try playing around with the breaks soon!
Thought those reels are more flyline live bait. Allways see the fern 2s on offerup half price, used or new. Have to pick one up.
Have you tried that reel on a jigging rod,
I havent personally used this reel for a jigging rod myself. I do know they have a Jigging model though, which would be a lot more ideal for speed and slow pitch jigging.
I can’t wait until you hook up with a mean ass yellow at Cedros on it !
Same! I can't wait to break it in the right way!
Nice video Ray! That reel would pair nice with my 9ft tri helix. What reel would you compare that to? Looked small, more like a Shimano 14. What ya think?
I just bought a calstar gfdh 900m at 20-40. Hope its not too stiff. I bought an accurate bv-600N which I hope to get 475 yds of 65 on. Is rhis sounding in the ballpark?
Your rod should be perfect honestly! Just gotta go out for a practice session and see how it loads up and which jigs you like casting on it!
Is the Accurate reel a Lever drag? I’m not a huge fan for casting LD for surface irons
I have the 800l and like it
Accurate reels ! ! Lets go
First time ever really feeling one out! Feels super solid and smooth!
You make an adjustment to the mag brakes?
I was casting it stock right out of the box!
Duran Clamps makes a mini surface iron like 2"
Bro I think I saw you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂 at the marina park
Gotta love the 805 VC
twin drags are in the gear housing not the side of the spool like in twin drag lever drags
try the 500 for 40lb, Danny wade was using it
Might have to try the 500 in the near future!
terns have the drag on both side of the main gear, not the spool as the lever drags
spotty special would be so cool
Right! Would be so rad to even just get one!
Just wait til you get some heat on the reel and it doesn’t freespool. Accurate seizes too easily since it’s machined with no tolerance. Doesn’t allow for heat expansion.
I think it’ll be just fine for what I plan to use it for. 40lb top shot is going to be the heaviest I put on here, so it’ll be just fine against fish of that caliber.
@@Dirty.Hookers it’s just a flaw I’ve noticed over a lot of time spooling them. Only reel that does it because they’re machined so precisely. They all look great though

Just another reel that isn’t as good as a Trinidad……lol
Trinidads are pretty well equipped, but I am always open to trying something new!
I will say, i definitely really liked this reel for casting small jigs! Helped a lot with minor to no backlash!
You sound silly. You buy into the hype. Tern 2s are 2nd to none
@@juliankelly2309 ya you’re right 2nd to the Trinidad lol you’re to broke to buy a Trinidad we get it bud
@ReedperkinsHB22 learn how to type.. yea.. I rest my case... you spend 200 extra for the shimano. I have both.. tern 2 is better for reasons you may not even grasp as a ✌️fisherman
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I use a trini 16DC. Casts amazing even into the wind but the drags suck. Max 25lb line
Shimano doesnt make a reel that has a drag that sucks clown.....
Might just need replaced drag washers.
How old is your 16DC? I’ve still never even seen one in person!
