Omg, everyone needs someone in their life that will walk in on you doing something strange like smashing flowers into clothing with a mallet and just be like “ok, do your thing!” Rae, that man is a keeper!
Oh the flower one is based on a real dying process -- but in that, the shirt is usually soaked all the way through in a copper pot first, then they'd place the flowers and roll up the shirt and leave it for awhile so the natural pigments in the flowers can seep through. It's called botanical bundle dyeing. :D
This video did not disappoint, we are in tears with laughter! Artists everywhere felt your pain with that balloon cup! Honestly, our reaction to the cotton swab marker hack was WHY??? We have so many actual markers that are so nice to use and so affordable! We're not going to get on our soap box and preach about wasting spaghetti in a painting though, because there is documentary evidence of us doing art with pasta. Oh, and we're not proud of it, but there is now just a tiny chance a few of of us might be gluing stuff to our fingers now... FOR ART!!!
5 minute crafts's q-tip marker hack was 100% fake. What they really did was hide real markers inside the rolled up wipes, cuz if they didn't the lines would look all messy and smudge everywhere like what happened with Rae.
Rae, the aluminum foil hack will work but you have to be touching the aluminum foil. I actually made a stylus out of a nib on a toothbrush with a bread twist tie when I was in a pinch once. You have to touch the aluminum foil so that the electrical current is carried from your finger to the pad.
Ok tbh, I did the flower thing one afternoon and it actually did work. I didn’t put anything over the flowers, and I mostly used the darkest ones I could find, but yeah. I mean ofc it didn’t look like an actual flower, it was more abstract, and also… it disappeared as soon as I washed it, but that was only to be expected lol. It would be a good way to occupy kids in the holidays tho
Loved the video! But I must say, as a broken ass artist the foil hack does work! But you'd have to touch the foil while using it, also I add cotton for the tip and a bit of what, just to keep it humid to conduct electricity (there's some science behind). That's how I draw on my cellphone 😂
it depends on what kind of touchscreen device you use :) theres resistive and capacitive screens. Resistive screens will react to pressure, while capacitive screens will react to a current. Apple devices are capacitive, so they'll only react to products that emit a specific current, hence why the foil trick wont work on them (the foil conducts a current, but its nothing the ipad can pick up)
Also you can take an empty pen body (without the refill) and wind a copper wire longitudinally through it and add the cotton swab at the tip… that would make a stylus… the only problem is that you constantly need to moisten the cotton tip in order for it to conduct electricity
The flower thing DOES work, but it really depends on the flowers/leaves you use. I remember doing this in school when we were learning how people in Ye Olden Times made dyes and stuff
When I was a child in late 1980's I learned from some kid's TV program that you can draw with flowers or other plants. But of course it recommended that an adult helps you choose the plants because some plants are very rare and should be protected and some can be poisonous. And a small child may not always understand which plants are OK to take so no stealing flowers from someone's flower bench. I just used some wild plants from my neighbourhood. It was a fun art project but it was much easier to just use regular crayons. :)
I used to do the stylus one and it actually works u just wrap the foil around a q tip it's not the best but it really helped me when I couldn't afford a stylus
The water balloon/glass hack actually does work. Your brush hole was at the edge rather than the middle then tipped the glass to the side the hole was. Also probably needed a little less water. Not the greatest hack if you don't want to take the time to make sure it's right, but if you're extra clumsy, it's definitely a good idea.
Plus I think she used a cup with too wide an opening and it was plastic that won’t hold its shape. If she used a hard plastic cup with a smaller opening it prob would have worked better.
@@velocityraptor9270Well tbh it’s pretty dangerous to use a glass cup for that hack anyway because the pressure of the balloon holding on the rim could cause the glass cup to break since that is where the glass is the weakest. She most likely should have used a hard plastic cup
I think the hack by taping the tape to the desk u didn't do correctly. They used DUCT tape and u use painters tape. Duct tape would have absolutely held in place
The Digital Stylus hack does work, have to be touching the foil with your hand for it to work its something to do with the electrical currant in your hand and the foil being a conductor. also a better way is to some cotton attach it to a wooden doddle wrap the whole thing in foil nice and tight. Finally slightly dampen the cotton and your good to start digitally drawing, plus wont scratch your tablet/ipad ... Sorry for the brief science lesson lol
I really love how honest you are and your art tips also made me a decent artist and the reviews you do also helps us a lot. We appreciate every bit of your hard work ❤
I've seen the flower printing thing work, actually! It's a whole process similar to dying fabric, but if you do it correctly it can make a pretty unique scarf or towel or whatever
On the wet wipe, q-tip, marker hack, was that gel food coloring you were using? It looked like it. If so, I think the liquid might have worked better although I still don't know why anybody would want to do this. Water-based markers are very cheap. 😂
1:30 this art hack is also fake bc the colours that come out are literally markers or highlighter or whatever type of MARKER that is. Like that’s not a colour pencil
Hey Rae. Just a note on the flower on to tshirt hack…. It will work on paper though. I’ve done it many times. The flowers transfer but with a different colour and it’s soooo pretty. But you really have to hit it hard!!!!
I’ve done the balloon glass one with small children, you need a sturdier plastic cup, and also a smaller rim cup. It does work and it works well with children who like to knock things over all the time.
Rae for the foil pencil stylus hack I tried it but altered it. Like take a pencil wrap it with foil and get a q-tip and and slightly wet it and insert it to the foil. It works as a stylus.
You can buy anti-spill paint cups at any school/daycare supply store! They're also available at many department stores and art supplies store. It's harder to find them sold individually than as a set, but they're still not super expensive. And if you absolutely can't find them in your area, you can superglue an appropriately-sized funnel to a cup.
for the hack to prevent water spilling, it worked in the video because they put less water so when it tilted, it wasn't the same level as the whole through the balloon.
Was just about to come to the comments to say this haha. The foil should work because of how touch screens work, our bodies have a tiny bit of electricity in em, and that's why fingers work, and why an apple pencil needs to be charged. So if you're touching the foil, it can conduct the electricity into the end and "should" work. It does depend on the brand and what your foil is actually made of tho
9:25 if you use actual duct tape it will hold steady to a wooden surface, in elementary school that’s how our art teacher would have the cups of water and over 5 years there I witnessed less than 5 spills
Yes for duct tape… that stuff is awesome. Blue painter’s tape is not made to adhere tightly. It is actually made to be able to lift off easily and not damage any surface. 😊
I think the flower hack would work better with something other than a carnation. Carnations are often colored by putting them in water colored with food coloring. I would think that the natural coloring on a flower would dye better. The aluminum foil hack will work if you are touching it...because the screen detects an electrical charge, and your hand will put out that charge, and be transferred via the aluminum foil. I don't recommend.
I really wish you had tried the balloon hack with a glass cup, or even a normal reusable plastic one. Honestly I think it might have worked a bit better.
The flower trick does work, but you have to have a solid surface like a wood plank under it and you have to really go ham on it and hit it as hard as you can until you feel like you’ve mashed the flowers and leaves into liquid form…..then it works, it’s a cool crafty project for kiddos.

The digital art one actually works if you use a cotton swab, put the tiniest amount of water on the tip and instead of completely involving the tip with the foil you wrap it around the tip so that it barely touches the screen. For the tape roll cup holder, you do not want to use painter's tap because it is low-tac. If you use a roll of high strength permanent tape (like duct tape), it should work no problem. You would have to worry about the tape tearing if it is a tearable tape, so you would probably need to reinforce the tape in those cases.
The broccoli hack seems fun for kids. My mom used to talk to me about eating my trees when we had broccoli, I always thought of them as little trees that could break off and be littler and lottler
I actually used to do the tinfoil pencil hack for a bit while I was waiting for a tablet! You need to hold onto the foil and lick the part you want to draw with for it to work ^^
And on the aluminum one for the ipad, not that I recommend EVER doing this 😂😭 but if it has any chance of working, your finger would have to touch the aluminum while you're drawing.
Hey Rae, even though the balloon cup hack did not work, I think it would be easier putting the balloon on the cup if you used a glass cup instead of a plastic cup! I love you videos, keep creating content!!
My engineering knowledge would challenge your method of testing, surface area, material resistance,...the ballon on a smaller glass cup might work, reinforcing it with a rubber band, the tape cupholder might work better with a wider tape, the tin foil stylus might work if your fingers touched the aluminum.
And it probably works better if the broccoli wilts a bit so it bends to the paper surface. Sort of like sponge printing only with bumps instead of holes.
The flower one works, but you have to use a very specific type of fabric and set-up in order to hammer the design on. It does come out quite pretty though if you do it right, but you can’t wash it or else it’ll come off. So it’s not great for clothing design.
About the aluminum foil pencil, te foil has to cover more of the pencil so you can touch it when holding it, that way it'll work, i used that hack for a while back when i didn't have a stylus
The diy stylus at 8:46 actually works but you have to touch the foil with your fingers in order for it to work I used to do this all the time when I was a kid It works because aluminum is very conductive

Girl, I LOVE your vids so much! I got so much better at art just watching your videos and you're so fricking entertaining to watch! Slay girl 🤌 And those pencil colour nails slay (kinda lmao-)
The phone cover hack used a large hole sponge so that the excess would get soaked up by the sponge. You used a folded paper towel in your process, which couldn't accomodate as much paint. You also used a lot more paint
You could make a silicone mould of the broccoli if you really wanted to because then that way you can keep on doing that effect without wasting broccoli
7:24 This might have been said already, but Rae was too gentle. This works, not like in 5minutes crafts, but it does work. You have to really wack it to release the coloring from the flowers. You probably need something heavier than a grocery back to keep the flowers from moving. I think even if she did the layers in reverse order so the shirt is on top it would hold better during the hard pounding. The kids have done this activity for Earth Day. This is a very old timey craft that does work; but again not like the original video implies.

I used to do this all the time when I was a kid
It works because aluminum is very conductive
0:29 I had a snack in my hand before I started watching- 😭 Yup Rae knows where I live😭
The balloon hack is very old I have seen it countless of times on 5 minute crafts
For the digital art pen hack, you have to touch the aluminum foil while drawing with it, and it actually works.
It's probably my imagination but you look happy. And it makes you look extra beautiful.
I got an add talking about mental help right after the broom hack😂 😂
There is a reason 5-Minute Crafts is known as 5-Minute Craps :D
Hi omg I love your videos I have almost seen all of them.Your dog is so cute!
Can you please do a video where you show your art room again please I love those videos!!!
In the future can you do a video like short of like tips and do a series again I love your videos I watch them almost everyday!!!!
❤❤❤
the spaghetti thing nearly made me fall backwards off of my bed in horror 😨😳 WHAT IS THIS CRIME AGAINST PASTA?
always a joy to see your videos
The digital art custom pen works! Even tho it scratches the screen I smoothed it out, mostly I think you have to touch the tinfoil
It's been a weird year with weird hacks is what I can conclude.
Hi Rae! I hope that you are having a good day today!!
3:25 i tried the cupo one and It worked soooo...
Hey! I love you and your videos and im so thankful everytime you post! :)
Yesss a new video from my fave artist
5:35..... Oh my goooooodness.... Like i was off the bed laughing out loud.....
6:21 witch craft
Yay Rae! Miss ur videos!
11:08 I think I know why the hack failed they had foam in the size of the phone case and if you look close you see it
You could make a silicone mould of the broccoli if you really wanted to because then that way you can keep on doing that effect without wasting broccoli
The bag was so the hammer wasn't dirty, she said that
I love this vid thank u
