The "Why? Because It's Red" is a reference to Warhammer 40K. Where Orks painted their vehicles red because "red makes it go fasta!". And since they all believed it, their collective psychic energy (called WAAAGH!) makes it actually true.

Seriously? Red making things go faster is a common cultural reference, has nothing to do with Warhammer.
But yes, that is what the achievement is referring to, that red means it goes faster. Yet it is probably the drama you talked about as well. Blizzard absolutely know that they made it rarer.

I remember being 8 years old and watching my mom and aunt do the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort and Raid Tier and just thinking how amazing it was, all these people coming together to push back the Insect hordes, So much nostalgia, makes me wish I could be back there
First time I ever went to AQ was for transmog gear, and I was alone in the middle of the night. Was dead silent and then suddenly this lilting voice says “you will betray your friends...”

Back in Vanilla my guild did AQ40 and every time he spoke to me it gave me chills. I’m pretty sure that he only spoke to one raid member at a time so it made you feel so alone and frightened.

I discovered this series recently, and I love it! The editing is great!
I have a funny story with Ahn'Qiraj raiding.
Once, when we were killing the last boss of AQ20, our off-tank warrior disconnected. And we didn't really have anyone else to switch him with in the middle of the night. So our raid leader asked me (I was playing a feral druid) if I could possibly offtank the boss in bear form. And for me it was the moment of my life! :D
I never told anyone, but I was collecting some tanking gear that I manage to find here and there, because I wanted some day to off-tank something in the raid. So I replied "heck yeah I can!" and put it on.
We pulled the boss, then it was my turn to take aggro from the main tank. Everything's fine, we're doing it. Now main tank needs to take aggro back... But he can't. I had 100% aggro on me at all times.
Raid leader was shouting at me to stop hitting the boss. And I was shouting back that I'm literally doing nothing, not even targeting the boss!
It went on and on - the boss was throwing me around the area, while I wasn't hitting him or dong anything at all in fact, and the main tank was splitting his ass wide open trying to aggro the boss back, until healers ran out of mana and we wiped.
If I recall correctly, bear form back then had passive aggro gain around it. Even when you don't do anything. And Blizzard went a little to crazy with how much aggro it was gaining.
Hence ended my off-tanking feral druid career in vanilla. Raid leader was pissed. Later he did, however, utilized my "bear" to off-tank some adds in easier raids that we were farming. But never anything serious :D
Haha good times, bear form druids and prot pallies was also really damn good for certain bosses but raid leaders and warrior tanks would do everything in their power to avoid this information becoming common knowledge, I believe even most game guides censored this knowledge as to avoid drama and disruption of the glorious warrior tank being doubted as the best choice. It's testament to this that MadSeason's guild didn't even use a warlock tank on Twin Emperors, a strategy that was resoundingly accepted after endless wipes by most guilds due to enrage timers and battleshout tanking limiting the raids DPS so much, but it took alot of drama and doubting to even get to that point. I know as a priest healer I could literally feel the difference in mitigation with the amount of heals needed for certain battles. In a similar vein to your story I was a really emo teenager about not being able to raid as Shadow Priest, so I would run a hybrid build secretly (good luck doing that today with talent inspection and armory!) that didn't take the -20% agro on healing talent, besides when am I ever going to pull agro with healing? Turns out Prayer of Healing spam and being the best healer that chugs mana potions can outagro everyone, people just assumed my random boss deaths were Vanilla just being Vanilla with random boss agro death, but I knew better ;)
Twin Emps was our guilds most difficult ever kill. The challenge of it was just insane and just like you said everyone had to be perfect. When we finally took them down the first time I believe we only killed them successfully again 3 more times. As for Huhuran, she was ultra easy for us after the entire guild got enough NR. I was the top dmg dealing mage in the guild and my fellow 2 or 3 mages were just behind me. She was burned out pretty quick. We also killed all optional bosses because loots were scarce and it helped satisfy the people. Only tried Oro after the twins and that was easy but didn't bother with C'Thun because Naxx was out. We didn't even get that far in Naxx either. This was about 1 month prior to BC release and our guild leader and a few officers announced that they are done with WoW entirely. They were good folks out of Quebec and I didn't blame them at all for leaving. They had really busy lives with their families, and I missed them dearly moving on in WoW. AQ40 and Naxx were the guild breakers for sure. Also, the guilds that did stick around in BC broke up anyway because raids were only 25 man (SSC and TK). That's another story. Thanks a ton for the video.

We had a lot more trouble with the wasp lady and Cthun than we did the emperors. Come to think of it, we also crashed past the twins in SWP with I think a single wipe, which many other guilds gave up on I remember. Maybe there was something about twins that triggered my guild. I don't know. Because we certainly wiped plenty on Brutallus, Cthun, wasp lady and particularly M'uru. In fact I've never wiped as much in my entire time with WoW as on M'uru. Just not on those two fights for some reason.
I can't wait for my own adventures in Classic myself. I started in BC and loved the old world so much.

Twin Emps was our last achievement. Got through them once, wiped on our only C’thun attempt, then did Naxx a couple times. By then TBC released so we never went back.

Honestly, I cannot pay attention to your videos very long MadSeason because of the beautiful FFX music you use in your videos. I go off on a tangent of listening to FFX music for a half hour every time I hear one in your vids, but I am so happy that you find them calming and beautiful as I do. Great stuff man.
My favorite is when the Path of Exile music comes on. UGH such a good track. I wish I was better at that game. lol
I love that game too but never noticed when it comes on since I haven't played it nearly as much as FFX. Madseason seriously has some good game tastes ;)

My fondest WoW memory is when I got my FREE 1000g mount in ZG (I won the raptor wit a 83 roll), when I was still gimping around on my level 40 mount back in the day. I'll never forget this moment and the jealously my irl friend felt when I, who was a really slow leveler and a total noob, got his epic mount before him, for free no less.
Zircon's "Monstrous Turtles" is an amazing song and you used it perfectly, stoked to hear it. Great video as always dude!
I warlock tanked the twin emps. It was glorious. First attempt after my class lead gave up.
This was a great blast from the past for me. I raided hardcore with a guild when AQ came out, and stopped raiding when TBC came out. Haven't played the game since shorty after Cataclysm. So to see these old bosses again and have you remind me about all the drama (which was mirrored perfectly with our guild!) and feelings of accomplishments was a real treat. Only difference was we did actually beat C'Thun - we worked hard for MONTHS to perfect that fight and being there when we downed him for the first time was an amazing feeling, unmatched in gaming ever since then for me. Keep up the good work man!

The chainlightning of c thun... the memories... it did like over 1 million damage on the player which was pretty much in classic lol.
the damage increased depending on how many targets were hit, so if it was 1-shotting people it was because mistakes were made
As someone who cleared aq40 and 40man naxx, I feel immense pride watching this. I also feel horrible memories of fighting to stay awake during twin emps to c'thun clears early in the morning.

Man I estarted playing 9 years ago, during mid wrath. I enjoy this sooooo much!. I can listen you talking and remembering my raiding nights after school back in the day.
The C'thun beam would shoot the first target to get agro twice before going to a random target, the tank could survive this, so as long as it did not chain you had that time to move around and get in to position for the fight.
C'thun is my biggest achievement in WoW with a World 5th clear :)

get Raggy down, you just cannot buy that feeling.
MC-BWL-AQ40 progression will always be my favourite time in gaming of all time. My guild was similar to yours, semi hardcore with room for casual members. Maybe a slightly bit more streamlined because we actually did kill C'thun but we also ran into the same issues of raid fatigue.
We had a bitter rivalry with the Alliance faction, who would usually beat us by 1 week of killing bosses, so the few cases where we came first were extra sweet.
We also did MC 'speedruns' .. it's adorable for us anything within 2 hours was a speed run... (Imagine my surprise when I played on private servers and they took it down to 30 minutes or less)

Hello, just a note here, the Warlocks tanked caster twins emperor by spamming searing pain because it does more threat than any other ability and they also use shadow resistance gear.

I helped tank this fight as a warrior. In fact we did we 2 warriors, don’t think we even tried the warlock thing. Once he teleports you move away a couple of feet from the wall and you are the closet to him, do demo shout and whatnot. All casters do not cast on him and no one else is in range only the tank. The melee guy is the same, only tank near him and melee are away and not doing damage until the tanks get Aggro. That’s how we did it. Was really proud once we killed them.

Red is the best color. That's why.
I chose to buy a red bound qiraji battle tank mount in Project Ascension when the war effort event for ahn'qiraj came out.
Spent 10 days grinding light leather and medium leather in barrens to get 5000 war effort points, got the mount, insta-100% speed, learnable at lvl 20, only need to spend a few gold on the apprentice training, and account-bound so can send over to all chars on the same realm, both Horde and Alliance. Can be used as a normal mount, outside of the raid.
Totally worth the 10 days grind.

I was an orc rogue, and with the right spec, every few minutes you could premed and blood fury to delete lesser geared clothies in the cities and even had a good shot of getting away from the guards thanks to preparation. Good times

Love this series, brings back some serious nostalgia. I never raided in Vanilla. In fact i never hit 60, in BC i only hit 70 when Black Temple was out. The big first kill for me was Lich King 25 HC. 1 person fucks up defile and it's over. Hated that place after 36 weeks of farming.
My Guild had the Technique to Tank the Caster Emperor with a Warlock. And it's also probably my biggest Achievement in WoW. Besides killing Patchwork before BC Launches.

Same here. We used warlocks to tank the caster one, melee would run back and forth hitting the one that took physical damage, and us casters were on bug duty.
And there was no 'aggro' to grab on C'thun's big eyeball phase, he would randomly cast a chain lightning, but yeah you did want your highest HP warrior taking the first one with everyone spreading out behind you. Tanks didn't really tank anything til Phase 2 when those giant tentacles started popping out.
I think our guild's loudest nerd screams on ventrillo were after Huhuran, Twin Emps was more sighs of relief. The good part about taking so long on those two was that we didn't bang our heads against the C'thun wall when he wasn't mathematically killable like a lot of the top guilds, so we got to kill him the same week after he was fixed.
Interesting! Never knew about that. Actually thinking back, wasn't there a warlock tanking strat for Onyxia as well? I want to say I remember some guilds doing that back then. Or I might be thinking of Sartharion from WOTLK I guess

you never sent a warrior on your C'thun pull; you used a hunter in full NR gear(most times he could get a full resist) because they could swap gear midfight under feign death via macro.They were also used to cheese his stomach because if you had exquisite NR you could sit there pinging the tentacles without the acid debuff melting you in 10~sec
Additionally for non-hunters. the Disgusting Oozeling pet($$$$) when summoned would reset your stomach acid debuff and you could dps in the stomach 10 times longer or indefinitely if you could self heal
Yep, lock tanks were a well-known method for beating them. How do you know when you meet a lock who tanked in Twin Emps? He'll tell you :P
I really likeyour relaxed tone. I think it's a major reason you're so successful. Most of us are a bit too old to appreciate loud insane punk or post-metal music blasting out while we get no info from the channel owner.

I haven't played Vanilla, so i was both super excited and scared about Classic raids, with all the horror stories i've heared. I was pleasantly surprised, it wasnt nearly as bad as i thought. Basically, we cleared up to and including Huhu on our first AQ, then next week got the hang of the Anubisaths, took us another week to down Emps and 2 more to beat pre-C'thun trash, which is even more horrible than all the rest. All in all, 2 months give or take after release we had the place comfortably on farm status, downed C'thun and no boss but Viscidous gave us any trouble.
Obviously, we had the benefit of prior knowledge of what gear to farm resist wise and for whom, have all the 15 melee soakers on Huhu use their Barov trinket, pet pull the Anubisaths and position range/melee camps on the fly according to what abilities they had, proper transition between the Emp teleports and warlock tanking...I was honestly surprised when you said you used warriors for the caster brother...

Oh I remember Twin Emperors! It was the one time for me to shine as the only protection paladin geared enough to handle the pressure of those shadow bolts! I even got Kalimdor's Revenge from them as I for some reason got the real tamaguchi love from the guild.

God watching this video legit gave me PTSD I forgot I had. My main raiding guild from Vanilla broke up on the twin emps, even after clearing the spider wing in Naxx. Something about not finishing AQ40 made us feel so unaccomplished that it just got to the GM and people so bad. I remember people getting mad at me because I could see the writing on the wall and blew all my DKP on two items. But we broke up the next week so I had no regrets on doing it haha.
If you ever read this, we need you back in the game … and making these great story vids, too. I have played off and on for 13 years, leveling at least 15 toons to 58+ (no boosts) and have NEVER YET set foot in AQ or Naxx … just never hit the right timing (RL) to get there … your vids ARE my xp!

Haha,ye i played mage all through vanilla and tbc, got 148 days /played on that retired mage.. pom+pyro was so much fun,getting rolling ignite ticks from crits was insane and insta agro if you got "unlucky". We raided AQ40 with 3 fire mages and back then crits and ignite was shared,so whomever mage got the perfect crit at the perfect time would either sink or swim depending on the tanks ability to do quick taunts,and you iceblocking to avoid the agro.. Man it was fun
I remember the night when AQ opened so well. We didn't actually go in. Instead, it was the whole night of Abyssals farming. We figured that the ping inside is going to be garbage so instead we thought "Why not get an epic for the entire raid?". And there we were, killing same mobs, talking about trash and life stuff on Team Speak until 4 a.m.. We all had Neutral by the end)))) My best memory of WoW.
