I played Trombone in high school ( still play) I complained to my dad about being called band geek. He played this album for me and then said “ these guys sound like geeks?” 50 years have gone by. He passed away awhile back, I still play. Thanks for this and all your reactions… quality my friend!
One of my favorite Chicago songs. Chicago has been around for decades and whether you like hard hitting songs or a softer touch you got it with Chicago. Many good memories listening to their music. A group with many bangers and different vibes.
My friend John Zov was doing a show with about 2,500 people when he said... I want to do a song from "Chicago" that has horns, keyboards, guitars, drums and is very busy with other sounds.... with just an acoustic guitar and my voice. then he did this song using his voice to Scatt the horn parts. When he was done the entire crowd cheered a standing ovation. This song has that kind of power when done right.
Great reaction! You're right their music is full and Beautiful. When you have musicians of top caliber, no front man and playing only for the song itself this what you get.
Glad to see a younger generation enjoying the kind of music that I grew up on. Love your enthusiasm. BTW...The first solo that you hear with the lower tone is a trombone played by James Pankow and the other solo with the higher tone is a trumpet played by Lee Loughnane.
There are only a few songs that are so well done, so beautifully executed, so perfect, that they always bring tears to my eyes. This is one of those songs.
I remember Beginnings (thanks to this album) is probably the first word I learned in English, I was 12 years old in 1972. Amazing timeless music from Chicago.
I was fortunate enough to see Chicago when they were first becoming known probably in ‘67 or ‘68 when they came to my college campus in Southern Illinois. I’ve been a fan ever since . I especially enjoy their early songs. Enjoy reacting to more of this great band!
Absolutely adore Chicago! Saw then twice. Last time a couple of years ago on my 60th birthday and they STILL put on a hell of a show! They were INCREDIBLE!✌🏻😎
I listen to the ending and remember the cacophony when the music teacher brought out all of those percussion instruments in grade school music class. How different they sound in the hands of real musicians who know how to play with rhythm.
The lyrics warm my heart and remind me of a boy I loved in high school. Songs can take you back to a moment in time. Original line up Chicago is the best.
Yeah, it was trombone, then trumpet, then trombone again on the solo. They had a third horn player but he played sax and at times flute. James Pankow on trombone, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, Danny Seraphine on drums, Peter Cetera on bass, Terry Kath on guitar...
Yes ,i was in the high school band too !When Chicago came out with those horns it made all of us in the band now feel COOL! hearing those horns on the radio wow !
This is how many of us were introduced to this awesome band. Go get the 8-track and cruise the highways with Chicago, no matter where you happen to be.
I was basically a toddler when this song came out, but oh my, I can imagine what a huge impact this song made back then! And the album too! Groundbreaking stuff! (and it really showed the Brits we're pretty good at making music too!) 🥰🤩😇
You should watch the cover of this song by the Russian group, Leonid and friends. They play it live so you can check out the TROMBONE and TRUMPET solos and duet.
Can't Miss Territory on this one . Early Chicago (while guitarist Terry Kath was alive) was expected to produce Masterpieces ... And the didn't often Disappoint .
Chicago Transit Authority. Seen them three times. First time what's the last hour of high school when we had an assembly. They didn't tell anyone why we were having an assembly the last hour some most ditched. They must an excellent concert.😂😂 I wonder if they ditched after that? Last time I seen them was in 79 at the Celebrity Theater which is round with a revolving stage. Was after a somewhat severe racing accident and I was in a wheelchair. That meant I was next to the stage. Question 67 & 68 Same album 🚜🤠🐂
If you TRULY want to FULLY EXPERIENCE this track and so many others by this GREAT Band of the past, do a reaction to the video, 'Chicago Live at Tanglewood'. These guys were truly amazing..!! Peace and blessings from the SF Bay Area, Cali.
You should watch Leonid and Friends perform this live. It will add a whole other dimension to this song. Leonid and Friends are a Russian/Ukrainian group of musicians who started covering Chicago, Steely Dan, Blood Sweat and Tears, and other groups with strong horn sections well before the Ukraine conflict broke out. They deserve to be heard.
Love Chicago, one of my first loves and first concert I went to at the Indiana State Fair back in the 70's. They had so many great songs, love their early music. One of my favorites is "I've Been Searching So Long", it's worth going down this rabbit hole.
If that was the summer of '76', then I was there with my soon to be wife. Of course, our first dance at the wedding was to "Colour my World". Sadly, I lost her to cancer after 43 years of marriage.
@@jamescox9427 It was 1976. Sorry to hear about your wife, that is a long time to be married to someone. I just recently lost my husband to prostate cancer. We love Chicago, I went to Cascade High School and Colour My World was the theme song for the prom that year.
I've heard most all of the better songs since 1950's... Best era was mid 60's to mid 80's... then digital ruined music and the talent levels dropped terribly.
The guy who wrote this song (sorry, can't remember the name of the band member) challenged himself to write a song in which none of the lines rhymed. He exceeded far beyond what he expected, I'm sure you agree!
Love your reaction to this. I want reactors to have and give honest opinions. However if any reactors honest opinion was anything other than how great this song/recording was I doubt I could ever respect the opinion of anything else they reacted to.
Go see "Leonid and Friends". They're on their 5th or 6th tour of the U.S. They play this tune and many others by Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Steely Dan, and other horn bands from the 1970s. They are out of Russia, Ukraine. Live performance is as good or better than the original. Check out their TH-cam videos. 2025 schedule is on their website now .

❤
In Jr. High, all the trombone players were big Chicago fans, because on 25 or 6 to 4, they heard 16th notes on a trombone.
@@ed-straker not many rock / jazz songs with the horn semiquaver. Gotta love it
Our high school band director took the whole band to see Chicago in May 1971 at SIU Carbondale, IL. Our lives changed that night.
My husband told me he played trombone in school, a few years after we were married. ( wish he still played! )big turn on.😊
One of my favorite Chicago songs. Chicago has been around for decades and whether you like hard hitting songs or a softer touch you got it with Chicago. Many good memories listening to their music. A group with many bangers and different vibes.
Chicago earlier albums were definitely their best!
Love to see people appreciate Chicago
I forget sometimes how freaking great this song is...
In a long list of great Chicago songs, this is my favorite.
One Of The Best Bands Ever PERIOD!!
Not too many better songs ever recorded. Every element is absolute perfection.
My fav Chicago song. And that's saying a lot, since they have so many great songs.
The Song is a Masterpiece!!! Indescribable!
Of all their great songs, this is my favorite.
The horns were a saxophone, a trumpet and a trombone.
My friend John Zov was doing a show with about 2,500 people when he said... This song was inspired by one of the members attending a "Richie Havens" concert , that's why it begins with that particular strum .
My Favorite Chicago song
Incredible reaction
🎵💜🎶✌️
My favorite too. Pure beauty.
Me, too.
Oh, the memories this song brings back.
Love the sixties / seventies era of Chicago!
The percussion at the end is just spectacular
Great reaction! You're right their music is full and Beautiful. When you have musicians of top caliber, no front man and playing only for the song itself this what you get.

One of the greatest bands ever, hands down ❤
Always loved this one. Trombone, man, killed it.
The drumming on this can only be described as manic. Well, manic and tasteful. And the bass is fabulous.
There are only a few songs that are so well done, so beautifully executed, so perfect, that they always bring tears to my eyes. This is one of those songs.
My fav Chicago song.
The lower ‘trumpet’ sound you heard was a trombone. My brother plays the trombone and he played Chicago a lot. Love them, they conjure up memories.
I ❤ the late 60's -early 70's Chicago
I remember this one from when I was young, this is real music, telling a story.
I remember Beginnings (thanks to this album) is probably the first word I learned in English, I was 12 years old in 1972. Amazing timeless music from Chicago.
It gives me goosebumps, every time hearing this great band.
I was fortunate enough to see Chicago when they were first becoming known probably in ‘67 or ‘68 when they came to my college campus in Southern Illinois. I’ve been a fan ever since . I especially enjoy their early songs. Enjoy reacting to more of this great band!
For a while I was wondering how they would put an end to the beginning. LOL But I did love the piece, especially with the solos. Special, yes.
Every band played this tune at my high school's dances back in the day.
And summer dances at the lake! 🌞 ⛱️ 💃
Absolutely adore Chicago! Saw then twice. Last time a couple of years ago on my 60th birthday and they STILL put on a hell of a show! They were INCREDIBLE!✌🏻😎
Brass kicks ASS!!!!!!
Robert Lambs vocals are on point!!😊
I love Robert’s voice on this
My fav song of theirs. Every time i hear one of their older songs im instantly transported to the 70’s.
My fav, too.
My favorite of theirs! Brings back so many memories.
My fav, in a long list of great songs of theirs.

"I LOVE MUSIC FROM THE SIXTIES".... Me too
Thank you for this video... Chicago 1969
The lyrics warm my heart and remind me of a boy I loved in high school. Songs can take you back to a moment in time. Original line up Chicago is the best.
Such a good feeling song, I instantly smile whenever I hear this one..
Chicago is awesome.
Baby What A Big Surprise is my favorite.
Yep me being a boomer i grown up songs like Chicago and rock and Rb and no disrespect to the new artists but back then they had real talent !
chicago, can't go wrong with this band.
Back when albums were thoughtfully put together, you need to listen this in its entirety, start to finish. Great album.
Brass and guitars...blows my mind. Great memories! Nobody like Chicago. Never got to go to their concerts. Trombones!!!
A good Chicago song from the late 70's is No Tell Lover. It's kickin!
They really were freakin' amazing.
Oh yeah. Such a cool song
I got this album somewhere
The best musicians.

@@corkydukeII5898 Born April 1954.... Grew up with the greatest music ever produced. No other time will ever come close.
That ending seemed like a great idea when you are stoned.
4 times per day for 58 straight years of happiness
You should watch the cover of this song by the Russian group, Leonid and friends.
They play it live so you can check out the TROMBONE and TRUMPET solos and duet.
Love this song! Classic Chicago! Great reaction, thanks!
Chicago always has a great swing .
✨️🎶✨️
I picture the brass leaving the stage as the percussion plays them off😊
Can't Miss Territory on this one .
Early Chicago (while guitarist Terry Kath was alive) was expected to produce Masterpieces ...
And the didn't often Disappoint .
FYYYYYYYRRRRRRR HUH JM??? 💯😊YEAH BUT YOU LOVE THE ( 70'S ) STUFF TOO I'VE NOTICED 👍ONLYYYY THE BEGINNING!
One of their best!
Now that's a Jam session !
That's the best way to describe this song. They jammed.
Chicago Transit Authority.

"I'M A MAN" IS A BANGER👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎😎😎
On the solo, one was a trumpet and the other was a trombone.
❤ In my top 3 fave songs ever❤️
It's perfection.
Those drums though.
Perfection.
Fantabulous
These guys always played their asses off.

CTA’s first album , wow. How unusual that a first album is the best and a 2 record set. Totally different from other albums of the time.

Probably one of the best written songs of all time and I’m not even a big fan of Chicago. They’re just too good technically
It's perfection.
Please do "Dialogue Pts 1 and 2". It's their most soulful.

Boz Scaggs - Sierra
You know, that might have been the beginning...
It's time you step back through The DOORS and do the first song on their first album... Break On Through
60's -70's music=80% Great, 20% not great.... after around the mid 80's music, 20% Great, 80% Not so great., much of it sucks to be honest.
This song was different for it's time....the lyrics don't rhyme
