I’ve really wanted to start ballet but I can’t touch my toes lol so I’m trying to get flexible now so when the studios open back up in a few months I’m ready
As a professional, "splits" and similar big stretches are just a part of the daily things I do, it's probably a grand total of 5 or 10 minutes 😆 Because it's more about maintaining flexibility and feeling good in my body for the day, not getting further flexible. But when I was young and hadn't achieved flexibility yet, I spent a significant more amount of time on it! Just like anything 🙂 I spend more time doing yoga stretches because it benefits me more as a mature athlete.
"A la seconde" is also known as "second position", it's just the correct ballet (French) terminology. It's when the leg is at your side as you see in the demo. Except I kept the knee bent just as a stretch. A proper "a la seconde" or "second position" is with the leg fully stretched and up at the side. Hope that helps!
Awesome! I have a lot of pointe shoe-related videos 😊 I just uploaded this one on how to keep them for longer: th-cam.com/video/vZ1VrKuqe5g/w-d-xo.html
Hii, I’ve been dancing all my life I stopped when I was 12 and now I’m nearly 15, i did dance in between the years but not long. When I was 13 they doctors said I have oscaslatis so I stopped dance until now I really want to start again because it was something I can turn to x
I quickly Googled it and it looks like it could be something you outgrow? I hope that's true, because if dancing made you happy it would be great if you could do it in some way. (Obviously not against a doctor's recommendation.) Even if you had to cut back a little. Good luck, Keira!
@@jeanettekakareka heyyyy Thankyou for answering my comment I’ve done a few of your exercises and it has helped so much, I would also love if you could help me with good diets if you could, but I’m a really picky eater and tried so much to get my diet healthy xx
@@12345leah Oh I'm glad you liked them! :-) I only like the word "diet" if it simply means the way you eat, like a "human diet". That said, I give examples of what I eat in any of my vlogs and I give recipes too! th-cam.com/video/XpAeAYPsBOQ/w-d-xo.html Eating well to make you happy and fuel your body is really important for health. Taking care to nourish yourself is one of the important part of being a dancer (and person). If anybody tells you to not eat something or restrict yourself, run don't walk from that advice.
thank you, what i would really like to have heard too is how often is good and held for how long? What methodology gives the greatest gains? A lot of pressure or just a little etc.
I think that's really dependent on the person and their body. I would never stay in a stretch if I am getting that gut feeling that I need to stop. There's a certain amount that feels difficult but a little good. And then when you hold a stretch so long it feels wrong is when you should stop. Does that make sense? Also I'm not sure I'd want to think of it in "pressure" rather than "resistance" and I would keep that light in the beginning and then push myself further as weeks go on. But I wouldn't make large differences day to day. Hope that helps but it requires a lot of self awareness mostly!
Yo this video was very helpful ! Also wanted to ask what are those cool pants you have on during the flexibility demonstration ? Seem like it could be what I’ve been looking for.
I learn alise cone in 2 days. It's not a joke and iam 14 and i start dance this year in march. Its my first time and i also learnt front split but it take 10 days but still i think stiff while dancing can you suggest some tip how i dance nice
I started ballet when i was 3 and i quit at 11. I am 15 now and i have never lost my interest in ballet but i'm too worried to start again. Is it impossible to become a professional dancer at this point ?
I can't say because I don't know your exact situation, but it's not impossible! Don't let the worry of whether you can be a professional deter you. If you still enjoy it, it will have value. ☺ I'd say no matter what, it really matters how hard you'll work at it, how much you'll listen, and the quality of school you attend. To be a professional, you need to attend a pre-professional level program. Good luck!
@@jeanettekakareka Thank you so much for your kind answer. I knew its not gonna be easy but I'll do my best. I was so discouraged because everyone I asked said its impossible. Can I ask you for an advice?. What do you think about a video about dating a ballerina? From a non-dancer's perspective it's a difficult situation. Maybe you can enlighten us on that subject?

Hi! I want to start ballet as a beginner I am 14 and I Will be 15 on November i want to be flexible and do splits can you give me some advice? Do you think it’s too late at this age to be a pro at ballet? Personally everyone and when I say everyone it’s included my parents too they think it’s too late and they are not pleased and happy but I really want to do for a year now it’s not just some inspiration or from the aesthetic I really want to do! Also how much time do I should take class every week? Thanks!
Hi! To be completely honest with you, it would depend on a few things at this age: 1) already having a lot of natural "facility" and ability 2) getting into very serious pre-professional classes or with a professional coach straight away 3) determination and natural ability to take on corrections quickly 4) luck It's true that it is late to start at nearly 15 years old with the goal to become a true professional ballet dancer, but if you're able to jump straight in to the deep end and swim, you could beat the odds! Or, maybe you'll find that ballet-ballet isn't for you but it leads you to another wonderful career path or lifetime passion that you wouldn't have found if it weren't for ballet! I hope you can find a compromise with your parents, because serious ballet training is a large financial commitment. Since you're starting so late it's not likely that you'll be able to take advantage of scholarships at this stage. That's why it's important your parents are on board. Best of luck to you!
Hey! Just started pointe (would of taken it sooner but stayed in a lower class for a few years) I’m quite flexible as I can do the splits (right and left) and close to middles but I can never seem to get my leg in a hold at the side or just in general. Any tips for that and for starting off in pointe? ❤️❤️ subscribed because these tips were awesome and hoping to be a professional someday ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would focus on holding the leg at an angle that allows your hips to be more or less level. Use one hand to manually hold the leg within your natural turn out, so that you can focus on testing your strength coming from the butt, inner thigh muscle, and even your back muscles. Hopefully this will get you some strength in the right way over time. 🙏
@@jeanettekakareka thankyouuuu!! One other question: tips for being flexible (what you did or what you recommend for someone who has more inclosed hips)
I started ballet when I was 13 but due to some circumstances I stopped. Last 2019 I found out that I had scoliosis (but just a mild one). Now Im 20, am I able to go back at ballet even though I had scoliosis?
So long as you say it's mild and your doctor hasn't told you to stop physical activity, I think ballet would actually help! I have very very mild scoliosis as well. But, my mother's was really severe, which is actually why she put me in baby ballet when I was 3 to hopefully strengthen my spine and not have the same problems as her. I don't know if it worked, but it can't hurt! And at 20 you're not done growing either. 😊
@@jeanettekakareka, that was smart on her part. Strong back muscles will help the spine be straighter. I would think the fact you started gaining strength in your back muscles at such a young age that may have helped your spine grow straight.
Hi, Could you tell me is it possible to learn ballet for 20+ year old. As i used to do other dance forms. But now i want to learn ballet. Please break all the age criteria related to ballet
Oh well I think anybody at any stage can still enjoy ballet! As long as you are kind and patient with yourself and start doing the classes because you like it, it can be a life-long passion. :-)
I'm making 15 in November and I decided that I'm going to learn ballet or at least try but there's no ballet studio here where I live, what should I do? Should I just try online by watching ballet lessons on TH-cam?
I would try some free basic classes on TH-cam and follow along. See if you really enjoy it a lot or not, then maybe if you're still interested when you're old enough to drive or take public transportation you could try finding classes somewhere! Good luck ❤️
i want to do ballet but i don’t know if i’ll be okay at it as im really short, no flexibility and i’ve never done it at all. i would love to try it if i could :) xx
I like stretching but I never understand how warmed up you need to be. Do I need to wait for ballet class to stretch or can I do it first thing in the morning?
It's a good question! If it's more stationary kind of stretching, doing a full barre beforehand is definitely advised. But if you're doing smaller, active stretches you can start that in the morning. I have a 6 minute stretch that I uploaded that shows smaller, active stretches. 🤗
Am my mother's daughter my dream is to become a ballet my dad doesn't allow me to do it he said it is not good for girls but good for boys I'm in Nigeria, and I am sad because my flexibility will soon go away. Can I ask a question, if I subscribe you will carry me from Nigeria.

i might have to continue ballet this year after stopping in 2021... my flexibility is the absolute worst lol. idk how my flexibility never improved through my four years of ballet 💀
Honestly, so much is genetics. But you can definitely improve if you try specifically to improve your flexibility a little bit every day! Ballet alone might make someone naturally stiff even stiffer due to the muscles involved.
I rlly wannabe a ballet dancer I’m 17 and never done dance in my life. My family say I’m too old and I’m not flexible at all and I’m very tall and I’m not fat but I’m not skinny either :((((
You don't have to be or do anything to enjoy an activity!!! I wouldn't put the expectation on yourself to be "made to dance" but just take it for what it is one step at a time. That's my advice 🤗
Honestly yeah 😆 but in my husband's case, it's because they broke him in Chinese boarding school 😂😂🥲 but I helped my brother in ice hockey before! For you, I'd focus more on hip flexibility so deep squats. But of course some hamstring flexibility with the splits would help too!

I’ve really wanted to start ballet but I can’t touch my toes lol so I’m trying to get flexible now so when the studios open back up in a few months I’m ready
Just keep on at it, and do it smartly and healthfully. 😄
Can you please tell how much time you take to do middle splits also how much hour a ballet dancer do stretches in a day
As a professional, "splits" and similar big stretches are just a part of the daily things I do, it's probably a grand total of 5 or 10 minutes 😆 Because it's more about maintaining flexibility and feeling good in my body for the day, not getting further flexible. But when I was young and hadn't achieved flexibility yet, I spent a significant more amount of time on it! Just like anything 🙂 I spend more time doing yoga stretches because it benefits me more as a mature athlete.
4:01 sorry i'm not a native english speaker and i just got into ballet, what move or muscle is she talking about?
"A la seconde" is also known as "second position", it's just the correct ballet (French) terminology. It's when the leg is at your side as you see in the demo. Except I kept the knee bent just as a stretch. A proper "a la seconde" or "second position" is with the leg fully stretched and up at the side. Hope that helps!
@@jeanettekakareka Thank you💞
I love his video. I get my first pair of point shoes in October and I’m so excited 😆
Awesome! I have a lot of pointe shoe-related videos 😊 I just uploaded this one on how to keep them for longer: th-cam.com/video/vZ1VrKuqe5g/w-d-xo.html
UPDATE! I now have a part 2 explaining stretching do's and don'ts 😄 th-cam.com/video/YWAqIquEWsc/w-d-xo.html
I only like the word "diet" if it simply means the way you eat, like a "human diet".
Hope that helps but it requires a lot of self awareness mostly!
im starting my flexibility journey to help me with my figure skating... wish me luck !
Aw lovely! Enjoy!
Wow I need this
Omg i do these stretches in my classes lol I’m the oldest in the studio but i have always been flexible so i know I’ll regain it

Yo this video was very helpful ! Also wanted to ask what are those cool pants you have on during the flexibility demonstration ? Seem like it could be what I’ve been looking for.
Aw awesome! I'm so glad! 😇 The pants are from Freed, but I bought them from a Chacott store in Tokyo. Idk if you can order them online or not.

And of course the most important thing is to feel that joy i find in ballet. But i hope someday if i work hard i can achieve my goals. I really appreciate the hope that you give to people. Thank you.😊
Can I ask you for an advice?. What do you think about a video about dating a ballerina? From a non-dancer's perspective it's a difficult situation. Maybe you can enlighten us on that subject?
My fiancé is also a ballet dancer so my perspective is dating a fellow baller dancer... 😂it was by accident though! 😂😂But I was hoping to make a video about that if I could convince him to join me on camera lol. It's a unique situation tbh because you have to work together in addition to everything else.
@@jeanettekakareka Really? It would be great if you could convince your fiancé to join you on camera.
I see from my social circle, dancers date dancers or people working in that sector. Not that I complain or have negative thoughts, because I see that ballerinas/danseurs spend a lot of time together. That's why I might be an outlier lol.
Anyway you're doing great and we wish you the best for you and your fiancé. Thank you for your reply and stay safe!

Thanks!
Hi! To be completely honest with you, it would depend on a few things at this age:
1) already having a lot of natural "facility" and ability
2) getting into very serious pre-professional classes or with a professional coach straight away
3) determination and natural ability to take on corrections quickly
4) luck
It's true that it is late to start at nearly 15 years old with the goal to become a true professional ballet dancer, but if you're able to jump straight in to the deep end and swim, you could beat the odds!
@@jeanettekakareka wow thank you so much for that💖 It helped a lot for my decision-making whether to continue, I feel so motivated🤗
@@thingsatrandom373 good luck and enjoy! Hope you'll be back for more videos 🤗
@@jeanettekakareka 💖💖💖
@@jeanettekakareka, that was smart on her part. Strong back muscles will help the spine be straighter. I would think the fact you started gaining strength in your back muscles at such a young age that may have helped your spine grow straight.
Thanks I’m going to ballet soon but I’m not very flexible
That's alright, I was definitely not flexible at all when I started like I mention in the video 😂

@@jeanettekakareka Thank you 😊
I'm making 15 in November and I decided that I'm going to learn ballet or at least try but there's no ballet studio here where I live, what should I do? Should I just try online by watching ballet lessons on TH-cam?
I would try some free basic classes on TH-cam and follow along. See if you really enjoy it a lot or not, then maybe if you're still interested when you're old enough to drive or take public transportation you could try finding classes somewhere! Good luck ❤️
i want to do ballet but i don’t know if i’ll be okay at it as im really short, no flexibility and i’ve never done it at all. i would love to try it if i could :) xx
As long as your goal is to enjoy it and take care of yourself, I don't see why anything else matters! Don't let the comparison game get in the way. 😊
@@jeanettekakareka that’s right!! I’m going to watch it more carefully. Thank you!

Honestly, so much is genetics. But you can definitely improve if you try specifically to improve your flexibility a little bit every day! Ballet alone might make someone naturally stiff even stiffer due to the muscles involved.
I was just born flexible
