While we know that Vanguard doesn't really care about visual uniformity of technique that much in the snareline, why does it look like the three consecutive snare drummers on the center's right aren't making an effort to apply the same pulse accent tap to the singles at the end of the snare break while everyone else is? I notice snares get away with stuff like this as in 2014 with the alternating flam-flams at the end of the percussion feature, most of the snares couldn't pull the heights off in a way to make it appear as clean alternating flams. At the end of the day they sounded clean because they pulled off the flam sound together, but most did not physically pull off alternating flams like the center did. I've always been curious to know if judges notice things like that or if it's so minor that's it's not worth factoring in as long as it's clean to listen to.
hey 6am, great video. One thing first Everyone talks about Petty's wins, Pearson's talent, what Davey "could" have done, Gordon or Johnson was the greatest, or may even claim Earnhardt's domination was unequaled, but if you had lived during the late 60's, you would all agree that that's all just a bunch of BS and wishful thinking. Truth is.....LeeRoy was the man!!!
Trieu Tan its a triplet timing grid, there’s TONS out there on the net. get the troopers dbc audition packet and it has exercises like that and more SCV ish ones it’s only like 15 bucks
Why don’t u like their drums? Also dynasty builds the harnesses like that because their is less parts and they don’t really ever loose bolts or break harnesses like Yamaha carriers
@@TopDrumCorps I just don't really like how the harnesses look. I've heard that dynasty drums are heavier than most drums and it would be cool if they had two spock's on the tenors.
you BD haters crack me up...19 titles & lots of drum titles...& when is the last time BD has been in 3rd place?...hmmmm...no disrespects to SCV...this drumline is unbelievable!!! & I do mean this...but talking junk about a Corp that has 19 titles does absolutely nothing...it's just continues to crack me up every time people hate...
it's differences in approaches. bd is brash and chop heavy. scv is more poised and musical. both are insanely talented and achieve at the highest levels. they just carry themselves differently and sometimes bd rubs people the wrong way.
Ben Brandhorst BD is the example of class in this activity. If someone is rubbed the wrong way by them, that is the individuals fault. Likely because they tired of BD winning.
Instead of shitting on BD look at why they do what they do and why they have 19 titles then look at your corps and you'll see that BD has a culture like no other that quite literally breeds perfection. I have mad respect for all drum corps but dont shit on then for their hard work
It’s not as easy as it seems, the rhythms may not be crazy but the dynamic and timbre usage makes it very difficult. It’s not just about clean, which to be honest there are some iffy spots but it’s still far better than any other corp consistently
Question.... The exercise they do at the 2:50 mark is clean. However, if you look all down the line and even with tenors their legs are all over the place. If it's so hard to mark time to certain rythyms/warm ups then why doesn't either the staff correct it, or they just stop? I'm not trying to attack anyone, and I see it with other lines too. Blue devils was all over the place in one of their videos from this year. Again, no shade thrown, just asking....
I know I'm late, but the way Paul teaches (at least from what I've seen/heard), he doesn't care too much about individual playing technique as long as the sound quality matches, so I assume that extends to marking time. It seems like everyone uses different parts of their feet to feel the beat, but when they do hit it's together on impact, just not visually.
My _goodness_ they sound good, but the beauty of drumline isn't just in the quality of sound; it's also in the quality of the visual. Sound and sight _together._ I _REALLY_ want those snares to be aesthetically lined up vertically. Yeah, I get each playing-surface is nicely proportionate to each the player's natural playing-positions, but I don't care. It can be done. Check out my 2002 Cadets snareline. (I was the timpanist.) th-cam.com/video/FCMl_XrGiTA/w-d-xo.html Look at Tiny Heidi here standing next to Tall Paul. Their drum-heights are _precisely_ the same measurement to the ground. I watched Heidi's face when the snare tech jacked up her drum. She did _NOT_ like it, but _whatever;_ together as a line, it looks super handsome. Plus, watching her play here, it doesn't look like she's having _too_ difficult a time ramming out the book that went on to win the 2002 High Percussion Award. Even with a jacked-up playing surface, I'd say she was just fine. _Also_ look at Tall Paul's playing surface; his a bit on the _low_ side. They compensated. Paul doesn't look like he's having too difficult a time either ramming out the same book. _It can be done._ Psychologically, sitting in front of a drumline that _looks_ good is just a better experience than sitting in front of a drumline that looks like a collection of broken pistons. (Though you might say, "But this SCV line is cleaner than that 2002 Cadets line, so maybe individual playing-surface-comfortability contributes to a cleaner sound." Mmmm.....I think each of these SCV drummers is so _ludicrously talented_ that having their playing-surface be adjusted a little higher or lower wouldn't phase them one bit. It didn't for Heidi and Paul 😉 )
@@MeowfaceMusic the height of the playing surface would absolutely dictate their sound quality. “They are talented so they can play on a higher or lower than natural surface” is one of the most vague things Iver ever heard. If you knew anything about how Paul teaches you wouldn’t have said that

At the end of the day they sounded clean because they pulled off the flam sound together, but most did not physically pull off alternating flams like the center did.
I've always been curious to know if judges notice things like that or if it's so minor that's it's not worth factoring in as long as it's clean to listen to.
From up in the box, it’s too small to see and hear, they really base it off cleanliness and sound quality
Does anyone know the tenor drum tuning they use
They tune the tenors
Alex Garcia from what I can tell on quad cam videos from this year, it’s Spock-Ab, 1-F, 2-Db, 3-B, 4-Eb.
I would kill for a Rennick Harloff corps
Is that Marty McFly? (Centre Snare)
9:32 they had to arrest someone because it’s illegal to be that clean
Wow! Fan-freakin’-tactic!
Wish I knew what camera this was recorded with 😭

hey 6am, great video.
Max Verstappen is the true champion
@@6AMFilms Max Verstappen finna win this year ez. Ferrari actually are so bad
During the warmups, why is the count-off at a faster tempo than the actual exercise? Seems to defeat the purpose?
It’s not and it’s not supposed to be
Who won this year?
Is this music? Is it a sport? Is it both?
Yea It’s music😂 they are definitely playing music. It’s not a true sport but it’s still very mental and physical. It’s a performance art
It’s both, welcome to drum corps.
Is there a snare transcription for the exercise at 2:14
Trieu Tan its a triplet timing grid, there’s TONS out there on the net. get the troopers dbc audition packet and it has exercises like that and more SCV ish ones it’s only like 15 bucks
what kind of carriers do they use? are they not pearl?
They use Dynasty carriers and drums
14:58 McNutt Special
No no. In the mcnutt special, you play it at FFF instead of having dynamics

Those harnesses look really uncomfortable
I’d say they are actually more comfortable than Yamaha. They let you breathe more, have more padding and don’t have the snnoying back brace
I like their beats I just don't like the drums they use. More specifically the older style of harnesses it sounds pretty good.

Dynasty harness 🤮🤮🤮
Luke Cullen dynasty drums❤️❤️
Yee Haw dynasty drums, pretty good looking,😍 the harness tho🤮
Luke Cullen we use dynasty’s, the carriers look way funky but they don’t actually feel funky. They also last longer than Yamahas.
Luke Cullen tama harnesses look hideous
you BD haters crack me up...19 titles & lots of drum titles...& when is the last time BD has been in 3rd place?...hmmmm...no disrespects to SCV...this drumline is unbelievable!!!
I understand what you are saying Ben...
I have mad respect for all drum corps but dont shit on then for their hard work
Easy writing. It better be clean.

8 BD drumline members dislike this video
I asked eight BD drumline members while they was polishing their 2019 gold medals, they have no idea what you are talking about.
Why is the playing so slow?
Because it sounds better slower?
@@cainmunns231 ...or because they can't play a hard book fast with the current line up?
@@maxdominate2481 lmao id love to see you play this piss clean with 8 other guys, while marching all the drill
@@mang058 - Go look at the lines from the 1980-1990 and you'll see that playing with a line and marching doesn't require that you play slowly.
(I was the timpanist.)
th-cam.com/video/FCMl_XrGiTA/w-d-xo.html
Look at Tiny Heidi here standing next to Tall Paul.
_It can be done._
Psychologically, sitting in front of a drumline that _looks_ good is just a better experience than sitting in front of a drumline that looks like a collection of broken pistons.
(Though you might say, "But this SCV line is cleaner than that 2002 Cadets line,
so maybe individual playing-surface-comfortability contributes to a cleaner sound."
Mmmm.....I think each of these SCV drummers is so _ludicrously talented_ that having their playing-surface be adjusted a little higher or lower wouldn't phase them one bit. It didn't for Heidi and Paul 😉 )
i don't think they're gonna change anything just because of a youtube comment
@@mang058 I agree.
@@MeowfaceMusic then what was the point of that novel
@@TopDrumCorps Based on your wording, I presume you think I have contradicted myself. Hmm, read it again.
@@MeowfaceMusic the height of the playing surface would absolutely dictate their sound quality. “They are talented so they can play on a higher or lower than natural surface” is one of the most vague things Iver ever heard. If you knew anything about how Paul teaches you wouldn’t have said that
