Every time I watch one of the Mini-14 video's, I get this irresistible urge to pull out my Mini and fire off a few rounds. Keep em coming!

I like the fact that my Mini-14 mag isn't auto ejecting because there are times I'm over mud, weeds, or water and I don't want to lose it. Thanks for the videos Scott, I really appreciate your efforts to make them.

Oddly enough. my first police rifle training was with a Mini-14 at an IALEFI regional. While I much prefer the AR-15, I enjoy and appreciate your video training for those who choose to or are required to use the Mini-14. Be safe.

I just bought my 1st rifle and its a Mini14. I was perusing the net and found this series and it gave me a better understanding of the Mini14. Very informative and not long winded, so it kept my attention. LOL. Thanks.

Nice technique. I like to use one magazine to hit the magazine release and drop the empty
Hint: Mini 14 reload can use exact same techniques as AK
You need a bigger, extended and aggressively textured magazine release paddle to be able to reliably use a mag on it

Honestly grabbing it is not necessary. At least with the new models. 584 is the one I have, as soon as you press the mag release it'll drop out 100% by itself. If you are dropping them on the floor. Just a quick press. It'll fall out on its own and you should be going for the fresh mag. No need to grab the mag and rock it out and toss it. Quick press and go! Not sure on older models. It's probably best to stay away from older ones due to accuracy reasons and apparently mag release issues.

You can't run a mag release with your trigger finger if you're left handed. You do it with your support hand.

I've had good results installing extended mag releases on my Minis. A little extra leverage and more surface area.

    Ruger Mini-14
Cogburn Arsenal does make a Mini-14/30 Trigger Finger Magazine Release. I have one on order so I can't speak to the quality or true functionality yet, but it is an option.

Not sure if you want to do another video on this topic - or if youtube will even let you anymore 🙄- but I think it would be worth showing how to run the five- and 10-round magazines in a Mini.

I think you are doing it wrong by applying an AR-15 manual of arms to the M-14/Mini-14. I use a simplified manual of arms that makes the shooting operation of this rifle much more logical, intuitive, and easier to learn. Basically the left hand holds the fore end stock and presses the butt into the shoulder (usually with a wrapped sling using quick transition from African Carry) and the right hand does all of the manipulations: working the action, working the safety, trigger, and magazine removal/insertion. The AR-15 is designed more for the right hand to stay on the pistol grip. If you use an AR-15 manual of arms with a Mini-14 you’ll end up doing mag swaps wrong and NOT how it’s recommended in the owner’s manual. If I were to use my left hand, I would have to come out of my aiming set position, unwrap the sling from my left arm, and use my left thumb to press the mag release lever and then pull the mag out against resistance. Besides losing my sling-steadied sight picture, this means dropping your thumb off the mag release lever mid process and with the inner portion of the lever pressing on the partially loosened mag. Therefore you must rip the mag out with friction and mechanical resistance since it is engaged in front by the peg in the magazine retaining hole plus internal mag release lever pressure. This is bad form and NOT what the owner’s manual recommends. Instead one should use the right hand to apply constant forward pressure on the mag release lever and the mag will gravity drop free with no friction or mechanical resistance. This manual of arms is much easier to learn than newbies trying to figure out which hand does what with an AR and which ambi AR controls may or may not be installed on any particular AR. My more logical and constant sight picture manual of arms for the Mini-14 is very similar to a classic lever action rifle. Some people lower the rifle when working the lever, but the proper way is to have the left hand press the butt stock into the shoulder, maintain constant sight picture and cheek weld, and use the right hand for all manipulations. Again, I think you are wrongly applying AR-15 technique (with right hand on the pistol grip at all times).

I’ve never had an empty magazine not drop out on its own in my mini 14. As far is it being difficult to put one in. Maybe if you’re 🌈🏳️‍🌈
