I’m almost 60 and have had so many incredible comments from young women. Saying I’m cool or striking, or saying “I want to be as cool as you when I’m your age”.. and let me tell ya, I look my age. Im tall and fit, but I have long silver hair, wrinkles, no Botox or surgery. It’s all because of how I dress and present myself. Thanks to you! You’ve helped me find my style and I’m rocking it. I even got a free coffee at Starbucks the other day - the barista said “I just love when you come in here, you make the place elegant and fun for a few moments” so.. THANKS!
Love it! I'm sure you're stunning! Mature women are just as beautiful as younger women, they've just been wrongly desexualized for so long. But beauty is everywhere and we can make the most of it by taking care of ourselves health wise, good grooming, and style. Age doesn't really matter, anyone can look frumpy and unattractive if they don't put any effort in.
I have slowly been realizing I am a denim jacket/converse gal. I heard a style gal say that no one needs more than one denim jacket, though she needed multiple blazers. Turns out, I need only one blazer, but I have FIVE denim jackets (dark blue, stonewashed, black, pink, and white). And while many gals can't get enough heels, I have basically none, while now being the proud owner of SEVEN pairs of converse in different colors. I have kinda felt guilty about having so many of the same thing, and wondered recently if it was fair to call it my uniform. Then, behold, your video today, encouraging a style uniform. All right, girl, I am going to lean into it and enjoy the many ways I can tweak my converse and denim jacket look!
Awesome video! Thanks to you and Alyssa I have found my style uniform with tweaks supplied by vintage jewellery and scarves, statement shoes/boots, and a sprinkle of va-va-voom!!! At 66 years old it has opened up a whole new world for me, and I have never felt so confident, and I love getting dressed every day - thank you!!! Clara 💕💕
I have in recent months been culling my wardrobe, had the menopause frump going on! Getting rid of the Noise...so important ! I am a jacket/Blazer girl...it should be obvious by the number of them i had! Paring back to the BEST fitting items has also been very important! Thanks for assisting me in bringing back the edge!❤
Yes! My physical steals away from self-attn. Simply, clothing-care is tough. Normally fastidious, I frumped-out! 🫣 Over the past year, new for me, & looks permanent : 👩🏼🦽, but gonna rock it. Emily, I found you this year, thank goodness you 'get me' 😘😎🤗👍🏻✌🏻
I'll be 68 in January and had completely lost my way with my style, felt frumpy and blending with the crowd of oldies. Thanks to you I tried a colour I've never worn:;black! What a revelation and reinvention. Thanks Emily, I've got my edge back. Love getting dressed in the mornings. X
I feel like I used to have a style uniform and then middle age and menopause hit, my body changed and I suddenly felt adrift. Using your videos now to refocus, redefine my style. I am determined to rid my closet of any clothes that don’t make me feel amazing! Cheers and love your channel 😊
I had terrible neuropathy pain in my feet for years and finding shoes I could wear to work was a real challenge. Vivaia were the best ones I found and I still wear them now that I can wear any shoes again.
I've watched many TH-camrs and read many blogs over the past few years and have pared down my wardrobe to black leggings, black (or tan) ballet flats and a dress. I add a scarf and/or sweater when it gets cold. I'm always comfortable and looked "dressed up" (as my mother would stay!). I just rotate though my dresses so I don't even wear the same one more than once or twice over a 2 week period. (And even if I do, so what?!) Thank you for your inspiration, Emily! Love your channel!
I’m in rediscovery mode, but thanks to you I’m no longer buying things that create confusion in my closet. That for me was the toughest to accomplish. “It’s hard to resist those bright shiny things!” Much love to you Emily ❤
Yep .. I have had a “uniform “ since my 20’s .. jeans .. tee .. variations.. even dressed up version. (Satin jeans or skirt ..cashmere seater ) I definitely have a favorite style and I’m sticking to it .. I’m in my 60’s now .. not changing ❤
Really started to "own" my style and it gives me such a boost of confidence!!! I also started to listen to the advice of keeping only what is in season in my closet! 1) I can hang all my clothes and makes it easier to choose my outfits 2) I can easily figure out what I do not wear and further declutter 3) really see what I have in double or triple!!! and avoid buying again!!!
I bought a long jean skirt yesterday. Would love some tips on how to style a maxi skirt. I have got to get myself another long jean coat. I had one for years and like an idiot got rid of it. I love yours.
I am definitely a comfy top and bottoms type girl so I have been working to hone in how I like to style the shirt&bottom to keep it being dull or "less me"... because a too silky top for instance might be comfy but not it is not really a "me" top. I regularly switch from pants to skirts depending mood and where I am going. This has led me to realize I am not a big dress girl...I keep buying them thinking I need them for special occasions...then I wear my black skinny jeans and a black top with a hat instead...so I am donating some dresses. I am keeping a few (3) but I just am not a dress girl. So yep... knowing your default setting for your outfits...your uniform...so helpful!!!!
I have to give you props for your content; for being helpful and relatable (my style is different from yours but you teach us principles that work no matter your personal style). But I have to give you big ups for the music you incorporate into your videos. I would totally hire you to create a playlist for my next gathering. If you’re looking for a side hustle, that could be it. Have the happiest of holidays and a wonderful start to the new year.
I am working on a “uniform.” It’s winter and I love sweaters. I am not a jacket person it seems, although I need to add a jean jacket to see if that could work well for me. Decluttered a few months ago. That is life changing.
I didn't realize that I had a personal style uniform until a very dear friend of mine (who has style oozing out of her baby finger😂) brought it to my attention. I have been wearing pants (usually jeans) a simple top and a scarf with a sneaker or boot for decades! I always had edgy hair. Locs, a twa (teeny weenie afro). My problem was always dressier events. I'd usually give in and wear something completely not me. Now I know how to make my style work for any occasion. The right shoe does it every time!
Emily, this is such a good video. The timing is perfect as we begin to think about style goals for the next year. Thank you for creating consistently great content. And I love the olive pants with the black blazer. I’ve got to wear that outfit tomorrow. ❤
This video came at a great time as I've been in the overwhelm-I-hate-everything-in-my-wardrobe slump of late. Coming to terms with my permanent post-3-kids body will do that to you. Starting from scratch relearning what suits my bodyshape, and I've come up with a style silhouette (fit flare dress or top/skirt) to build up from. Love your content!
I have been working on this since 2018 and i finally designed my own personal style as gothic ,relaxed fit, minimal and sofisticated. I am 38 years old and i will be 39 on next February 23th. Thanks for sharing. I am very closer to this style. But sometimes i sew my own clothes or change them for my mood. 😊
Oh my gosh!! We are exactly one year a part! I'm turning 38 on February 23rd!!! Amazing :-) Love the sound of your style uniform. Great contrasts and even better that you sew your own clothes.
Will be using the extra time I'll have during an upcoming break to, among other things, critically review and curate my wardrobe. I think I already have a pretty good idea what my personal style uniform is, but there are still items distracting me from the simplicity I'm after. You know the things - I spent a lot on it, I haven't worn it enough so feel bad letting it go, but what if I change my mind? - so just need the time to review, reflect, practice wearing things differently to get comfortable with less.
I feel like once you really figured out your own style it can kinda act like "your brand" or trademark. I keep repeating myself about this but I still find it funny that I didn't realize how much my interior design style reflects my clothing style. When I just sit in my living room or dining room in an outfit I would wear out, I look like I simply just belong there. It blends easily. And whenever I wonder if something goes with my wardrobe, I imagine me wearing it IN my apartment. If it would blend, it's great, if it would not, I probably wouldn't get much wear out of it (coz I would barely ever wanna wear it). My overall aesthetic is very cohesive and I really just figured that out because it basically just took me quite some time to allow myself to have this very style essence that seeps from one area of my life into any other.
Hello again my fashion friend! I’m so happy to see the evolution of your fashion journey. This video shows how you’ve taken fashion to the next level: self discovery-the journey we’re all on. Congratulations. As for quieting a noisy mind: serious meditation and making time to have space and quiet (they are really all the same things) You’re taking on quite a lot😉
As I go through my personal style journey, I come across so many videos on capsule wardrobes. Though I love the concept, I don't find it works for me. I'm not the type of person who mixes and matches outfits. That's why I have adopted a style uniform instead. I find it has similar benefits to a capsule wardrobe but aligns with my approach to outfits. Great video!
Great video! I’m about three quarters to where I think I want my wardrobe. You made great points and reminders in this discussion. It’s going to help me redirect where necessary and to stay on track where I’m doing ok. Thank you! Happy Holidays!
I am working on this right now. I just removed all the "work" outfits now that I am recently retired. Trying to find a new personal uniform for this new exciting chapter. Thanks for the useful information.
Pure inspiration ! My go to is very much similar to yours. Except for sneakers. I’m naturally getting rid of loud prints and pieces that don’t align with me anymore ❤

Hi, I also have transitioned to Barefoot shoes over the last years and will never go back! But, I hear ya about styling with them. I have one pair that is black and athletic, minimal looking. I wear them with most of my daily casual wear of jeans and tees and sweaters and button up blouses. I finally broke down and purchased a second pair, merry Xmas to me, that are also black but not athletic. They almost look like the old capezio dance shoes with laces. Both are from Vivobarefoot. I am still wearing straight leg jeans with them because I am very petite and cannot pull off super wide leg pants with flats. I think if there are any after winter sales on some nice boots, I will purchase a pair as well. I really miss wearing boots.
I feel like my style has completely changed since having my babies and I have been getting rid of things that don’t feel good on me anymore. It’s been very freeing but scary.
