Well, he messed up a little bit there. Lisbon is not the second oldest capital in Europe, it's one of the oldest cities in Europe. When Ulisses founded it, Portugal didn't exist yet, so Ulissipo wasn't the capital of anything. Lisbon only became the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal in 1255. 🙂

Fado was used for people to be able to speak freely during the dictatorship. We couldn’t speak our minds so we would write songs and sing them in the fado houses. It’s about hope and the power the people’s voices had eventually when the dictatorship fell.

Porto doesn't have two official names... It is simply called Porto but the Portuguese language adds "a" for female words and "o" for male words. So Porto is "o Porto" just like river is "o rio". 4. Fado does not mean fate... It descends from the Roman-Latin word fatum, which means fate.

O Oporto vem realmente da junção do com o+Porto, que era feita principalmente por Ingleses e Espanhóis aquando das viagens à cidade para compras do nosso Vinho do Porto, isto entre o séc. XIII e o séc. XV. Todos os países e todas as línguas adequam à sua forma a grande maioria dos nomes, prova disso mesmo é o exemplo que dei ou até mesmo Londres e outras tantas, que não existem.
