I finally remembered what speedrun category uses this trick. It was Nocturne RTA, where you beat Forest, Fire, and Water Temple to meet the requirements to learn Nocturne.

I'm honestly surprised this hasn't happened to everyone, somewhat often. I don't recall it ever happening for me. It must be hard to get 1/16 health- although you'd think the fire temple would be particularly vulnerable to that glitch
I'm not haha - timed rooms aren't entered so much, and as you get more experienced, you lose hp less, so it becomes less likely. That on top of the fact that you usually have much more than 3max hp at this point, plus needing to cancel fire damage within .5 seconds of dying, all accidentally No disrespect, but I'd be incredibly surprised if this was a common experience haha@@lukes9192

i think u can somewhat easily 1 cycle water temple boss, not an awful one also you aren't "required" to wear the zora tunic in the boss room for any reason afaik, you could heal up
@@Xarenth They said "Mini Boss" which I assume means Dark Link, which is still pretty easy if you know what you're doing, step 1... Don't go straight to water temple, get biggoron sword, once you have it, Dark Link is free hitless

Inner childhood memories unlocked. I remember doing this by accident once as a kid. I thought my game was broken until I got more life from a heart and all of a sudden I had the timer show up.
That plus nayru's love means that you are entirely invincible as long as you have enough magic (this is without using the gear screen to change your tunic at all). All this and some glitches lets you beat the game (albeit very tedious in the water temple [even more tedious than it already was with the iron boots]) without ever going to the gear screen to change sword, tunic, or boots.
Nayru's Love is at the Desert Collossus I think. Which means unless you do some serious glitching you're probably going to be done with most things by the time you get it.
check out the category "Nocturne RTA" (basically getting Nocturne of Shadow as fast as possible by beating forest, fire and water temples). This glitch is used to do the entirety of Fire temple because getting the goron tunic loses around 50s in that category
I doubt RTA (human-done) speedruns do, but it’d be pretty simple for a TAS (tool assisted) run They can check the memory values just like in the video, so for an all dungeons/no major glitches or no glitches run it’d be very useful

DUDE! THIS HAPPENED TO ME AS A KID. My brother wouldn't believe me. I told him I was on fire walking through a door and didn't get a timer. When I ran in to show him, I had gotten killed by a bat so I wasn't able to show him 🤣
just tested, a quarter heart gives you the minimum 2 seconds (plus navi's warning, which is plenty time to leave), what i think is happening is in the video their health is so low it round to 0, which would be no timer, hence why we get no timer

It's actually not that hard to beat the fire temple without the tunic. Most of the rooms don't require it. I used to do it for fun even before randomizers. You want to have a decent ammount of hearts and maybe fairies for volvagia and hope she doesn't decide to fly around all day
Oh i stopped using the goron tunic for the fire temple a long time ago. You learn to be fast and whay rooms trigger the heat timer when you do randomizers
This is probably the one thing I didnt know about this game. Ive been playing this game ever since it came out and I think i know almost everything there is to know about it. Still cant believe people are figuring out more today.

Interesting fact, but I want to state that even with timer, both temples are cappable of completing without tunic with 3 hearts, 24 seconds is enough time if you carry fairies and you know well both temples
As a kid, I completed without the red tunic (I didn't know how to get it) and I had to constantly get in and out of rooms to reset the timer. I always thought that it was SO hard as a kid

It's really crazy that people in the Zelda community are still finding new discoveries in this game, and it's from from 1998. Ocarina of Time is just awesome.
I noticed in Oot3D from the flames spewing in the fire temple's platforms, the amount of health seemingly does not go down in sync when Link make sound effects of him getting hurt (it plays rapidly, but the hearts going down by 1/4 happens occasionally while being in the flames), that can explain why "sometimes" Link "takes damage", he actually does, but the damage brings him to the amount of HP that would be rounded to the same 1/4 of a heart on the HUD. Link having fractions of heart increments less than displayed (which is 1/2 before OoT, then 1/4 on all later games) was shown in AlttP with the red mail against bees (need multiple bee stings to lose 1/2 of a heart). In Minish Cap, you need 2 eats from the Like Like to take a 1/4 heart damage (strangely, 3 times when having 1/4 heart left).

I complete watter temple with out Zora's tunic because I was a stupid teenager. I didn't have a wallat to by it. I DID NOT SEE THE ZORA KING IN MY WAY LOL and I didn't use this.

WAIT! I swear I've seen this bug get utilized in TASes. I've been watching speedruns for like... 15 years now, so I can't remember exactly where. I just remember noticing that they almost always had a quarter heart when they got to this area.
I replicated this with the fire tunic and standing in lava, time it right and the timers don't spawn. Always have a fairy with you, just in case. This is also possible with the bees in ALttP with the upgraded tunics as well, although at a lesser degree and with no "timers" Where it made more sense that you SHOULD have died.
Ok... that's... randomly unexpected, I mean, I already knew that the hearts don't really are in quarters, but the enviroment timer getting glitched by pretending you have the proper tunic is funny (maybe because at the lowest HP value has an error in the math of the timer to go underflow... I dunno, is just what I think it could be).
I think I could do pretty well maintaining that one sixteenth of a heart . Until I get to the boulder corridors LOL I always run so aimlessly and quick that o hit the boulders a MILLION TIMES 😆😆😆
Ah thanks. Now I need to restart my low% save file because I cleared the Fire and Water Temples with Goron and Zora Tunic respectively. That is amazing to know, though.
You can still complete the Fire Temple and Water Temple without the respective tunics, so long as you can make your way through rooms quickly enough. I’ve done it before and few times.
this explains why sometimes it seems like i don't take damage in certain situations a goron with 2x defense probably would take 1/8th of a heart of damage from very weak enemies...

I could be wrong but I think DL has the same Max HP as you so the more/less you have the easier/harder he is.
If you get Biggoron's sword before you start the water temple, shadow link is easy as fuck to beat!
