    I don't understand why he was walking around the house with a gun. When you live with other people in the house, you don't immediately think an intruder is in the house when you hear a noise, especially if you're waiting for your child to come home. He sounds reckless to me too! He might've thought it was an intruder, but he acted in haste!

      That's what the dad said, only him and his solicitor. Is it common that you wander in your home a gun in your hand? Is it normal that you're in possession of a lot of cash... and a gun - his cousin's said his dubious attorney - at hand? C'mon! His attorney succeeded in understating some subtle racial reason to find her client guilty. That's all! The limits of a trials based on jurors... a kind of lottery.

      I live in this area. This case has been heartbreaking for our whole community. The thing that matters is a beautiful, innocent child has lost their life. As for those saying Timothy Batts got off light there is no light sentence for the guilt he will live with knowing that he and he alone is the reason his child is dead. That’s not something I would wish on any parent. Timothy Batts might not being doing a life sentence behind bars but trust me the weight of his actions are going to be a mental and emotional life sentence for him. Yes his actions inside the home were suspicious but did the cops verify who he was on the phone with could it have been his cousin wanting to come get the gun, could he have picked it up wanting to secure it away from his daughter those are questions that still need answered his daughter did not deserve what happened to her and I truly believe he had no intention of harming his child.

      @Alyxandeyr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +141

      If you blindfold yourself and drive a car into a person, you are knowingly creating the circumstances that lead to your reckless actions, whether or not it was your intent to kill someone, and you will be held responsible for murder when you hit a pedestrian, because of your callous disregard for the safety of others and the laws of the land.
      If you are a felon, you are not allowed to own a firearm. If you are a citizen if the United States, you are not allowed to be under the influence or in the possession of certain psychoactive chemicals. These things are crimes.
      So if you, a felon, illegally purchase a firearm, and illegal possess said firearm, while illegally under the influence of illegal substances, and you shoot your child, you knowingly made the decisions that made that occurrence possible. Don't buy the gun? You won't have it. Don't possess the gun? You won't shoot anyone with it. Don't buy the drugs? You won't take them. Don't take the drugs? They won't affect your brain. Don't be under the influence of the drugs? You won't be so paranoid that you shoot your daughter in her chest. If at any point during the commission of no less than five felonies you "accidentally" do something that could only happen due to the commission of those felonies, you are no longer innocent. You may have not intended to do one of those things, but you callously disregarded responsibility and the safety of others to create the situation in which the accident was possible.

      He lives with other people who had access to that home, he should have at least taken a second to see who he was shooting! His behaviour was reckless and he didn't use his brain or any caution whilst using a deadly weapon. That ended an innocent child's life and that means there are consequences to face.

    I feel sad for the dad, he literally didn't mean it at all. He rushed her immediately to the hospital, you can tell he loved his daughter with all his heart.

      @@dinky101 all is well and good cos he rushed her to the er? She died. The fact you can see a father lose his world and a child lose their life and shrug and say it didn't really matter cos he did drugs... Callous creature. That does not make him or his daughter anything less than human beings. They have more love than you ever will. I suggest you think about what empathy is and find some before opening your mouth
