I lived in the wood for about 6 years and after a while you get to the point where you can get anything to catch on fire everything and I learned to stack the wood around the stove to dry it out and as soon as it's done sizzling it takes off you bring back memories I didn't have that big of a firebox. Thank you very much. Wood pitch one of the best accelerant next to kerosene.
Hey Jay! I have the blower on my classic 6048. Its great and cuts cycle times and helps me burn whatever is in the pile.hey your door plate is hammered!! Lol be safe out there
Really enjoy your videos Jay. You do an awesome job. We didn't have much of a winter this year but last early December just got a new Classic Elite 760 -- which has the air tubes you were talking about. (This is after using an old Classic for 20 years, until it sprung a leak.) Anyway this new design CB came up with is awesome! Very efficient, & long, even, sure burning! Highly Recommended! Thanks again for all your great videos.
Chasing the coal bed. Yes Jay, I like that phrase! This is exactly how I operate my gasifier. People don’t believe me when I tell them I burn green wet wood. As you seen in Ovi’s videos, there is no woodshed or even piles of split wood that has been drying. All logs. At best I’m a couple weeks ahead splitting and that’s sometimes. Haha, I don’t even own a tarp. When I shear the wood with the excavator instead of cutting it with the saw, water comes out like ringing out a towel. lol
I was gonna mention you in this video but adding air with the blower making the fire go like crazy I said if I had side air tubes like yours it would help 100%. Central boiler makes a blower but that attaches to the front and it only blows the heat up the chimney haha so side tubes like you did would be legit!
Yes, I had a Central Boiler CL75 before I built this. The draft was on the right side. Back then (1996) I don’t think they offered a add on blower so I fabricated a blower for it and it used to cook! lol when it was running it would have a 12” cone shaped flame out the top of the stack.
Good morning Jay In joy the video! I would love to have a boiler to help heat the house and get rid of all the gnarly wood in the Woodyard. When do you shut it down? Her do you
I’ve burned wood that was just a couple of months old before in my wood furnace. I try not to but yes it all burns. I am trying to get ahead of the game this year with my new splitter and conveyor. Also I just sub’d. Good video.
Have you ever thought of attaching a blower to your boiler? Mine has one and i have thrown soaking wet pine into mine and that blower always gets that fire nice and hot. Not sure if a blower is more or less efficient though.
I was told from CB its not as efficient as natural draft as it shoots heat right up and out but it helps burn greener wood easier which makes sense cause more air for ugly wood the better!
I ran out of sesasoned firewood this year. I didn't have very much going into the winter. I need to get started cutting wood for this coming winter. Waiting for some rain as we are very dry here.
That's right Jay. I almost ran out of seasoned wood a month ago and am now using mostly unseasoned wood. What I do is throw two pieces of seasoned wood at the bottom and the unseasoned on top. It has worked like a charm for me. I am looking at maybe two more weeks of boiler season and then I switch to propane. BTW, do you still have the heavy Chevy? I got myself one a few weeks ago.
Hey Ovi! Good to hear from you brother. Yes I still have the white truck it’s fitted with the plow for now but once that season is over we’ll use it more. Glad you got a truck. You’re gonna love having it esp to get wood and pull trailers!
I've been cutting up a bunch of white Ash tops, dead for at least 5 years, just came down. Stuff is rock hard, and good to go almost immediately. The unsplit pieces hiss a little bit at first, but burn just fine. LONNNNG duration, too. If ya got any dead ash around you, try chunking up and burning the tops for "right now wood" Everyone sneers at the tops and limbs, but it's good dense stuff- and it's been way up there, baking in the sun, and desiccating in the wind since the trees died. And you don't have to split it more than once, or at all. More cutting and fetchin' vs lots of splitting- and more wear and tear on your back. Seems like a wash to me.
I was told by someone when we first got our boiler almost 2 decades ago that the glue in cardboard and plywood can cause the boiler to rust and they said that is what was causing a lot of them to leak. I can't verify if there is any truth to that bu I have not burned either in mine and have not had a leak or needed it to be welded. I have burnt green pine a few times either out of necessity or convenience. It works fine as long as you split it up a little smaller and keep a good coal bed under it. I tried to put seasoned stuff on the bottom third and then put green stuff on top of that. I try not to get low enough so I have to because it is no where near as efficient. It looks like you need to try some dead standing pine to cut up.
Hey Glock! Thanks for tuning in brother! Pine did burn well indeed glad you know the treasure it holds for heat as well! Dead standing pine is premium stuff indeed!
The worst wood I've used is - without a doubt - wet willow. It's like a sponge, and soaks up tons of water. It doesn't stay dry, it'll soak water out of the humid air. Or the ground. Or just wherever...

HAHA Isn't it amazing how FAST that one piece was burning it was like a kerosene fuel indeed lol

Ive heard mixed things on the blowers. Id like a blower on the sides blowing inwards to not shoot flames out the back!
very informative for me being a 3 month old boiler owner . thanks Jay .
Welcome!

Awesome
Great job, brother! Chip
Thanks Chip!
Good looking
I would assume with your new endeavors in tree business, within 2-3 years you will have stock piled a sizable amount of seasoned wood.
Hope so!
Good morning Jay In joy the video! I would love to have a boiler to help heat the house and get rid of all the gnarly wood in the Woodyard. When do you shut it down? Her do you
Well we just got smoked with snow so gonna prob shut it down next week!

Yeah running out sucks! So did we of seasoned wood burning semi and green now for another week or so
never thought of that. i burn green wood in my owb regularly and it does dry itself. never thought of why. thanks
Hahah thought it was interesting!
Seasoned, unseasoned; if it fits it ships.
SHIP IT!

Yah if one has more junk for wood type ...get the kind of boiler that you have !!👍

Yes indeed! We burned ash a month ago and it was awesome!

Put in 1/2 gallon of use motor oil , best stuff to get a boiler fire 🔥 going . 😊
Hahaha no that’s a no no. The leaf blower does a fair job getting it to get going. Minus the hot embers flying out lol
Top it off with green hardwood at night to have a coal bed in the morning then you can burn all wet pine during the day.
Oh yes!
hi there most of what you call smoke is steam ,
Indeed!

Doesn't sound fun lol never burned it!
