I was 9 years old. We didn't have satellite tv in our house at the time. I watched this entire race in the sports section of a department store in my town. It was the only time I spent more time in the shop than my mother. This race alone made me fall in love with CART.
@@Saturn185 Andretti tried to trap Montoya and box him in behind Tarso Marques but Montoya picked up Maques slipstream and that's what inched him ahead
That Ben Edwards never got the F1 commentary gig is a travesty! Easily the best commentator of the 2000s. Probably in the top 5 commentators of all time in sports. Instead we had to suffer through James Allen. Considering him and Ted's background, its no surprise that they shafted their way into the spotlight
Agreed, Ben Edwards has always been my favourite F1 commentator. Iirc he did do F1 on Eurosport in the early days when they had it. And then eventually got to do F1 for C4 in UK although he retired a couple of years later. A shame because he should have replaced Murray walker then he would have had a long F1 career.
The best race that I never have seen. Side by side untill the chekered flag, ¡¡¡FANTASTIC!!!, and the comentators better. That was the ORIGINAL IndyCar, esa fue la IndyCar original. I´m going miss this kind of races. Thanks for sharing!!!.
*WOW! Montoya = BEAST!* At first i thought the back-marker 'yellow car' was going to get in the way. But Montoya was actually able to pick up a little bit of tow. *Amazing!*
JPM always challenging the most iconic drivers of each category. He can drive and perform at the highest in everything with wheels. No doubt one of the best drivers in history. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Michigan was a clue that in the days when the IndyCar ran was full of emotion. How can we forget the duels in the final laps of Scott Pruett x Al Unser Jr. in 1995, Tony Kanaan in his mythical victory in 1999 (thanks to drought Crash Max Papis in the last meters) where by millimeters Montoya won in 2000 this duel Montoya x Andretti in 2003 and already in IRL the duel between Hornish Jr. and Alex Barron. Track that left longing and deserved return to the calendar of the current Indy.
Not only is it the best finish in Cart/Indy history. Its probaly the best finish in all of motorsports. Basically the whole race these two were swapping the lead every lap (they did the same thing the year before in 99 too). It deserved a great finish. Banging wheels on the final corner at an oval is death defying. Two brave warriors leaving nothing on the table. Pure racing at its best. Special mention to Bed Edwards for this commentary, he was losing his mind and his voice! Paul Page is always great but Bens call here was epic
Who are the 7 idiots that dislike this? Would like to see them even try to race a go kart. This is great racing that might be coming back in 2014! With JPM driving an Andretti machine.
H4nnub4l I'll 2nd that ! Ben is such great talent when it comes to calling awesome moments like this ! To be able to stay that excited and keep all of those words coming through crystal clear is not easy !!
Fecking damn. I've seen this video some 30 or 40 times already. And it still gives me goosebumps. 200mph+, close walls, wheel banging... Overwhelming...
WoooW!!! Simplemente espectacular! Histórico y emocionante!!! Gracias por compartir!!!
Juan was not intimidated because Andretti has more wins he just race to win. Awesome race the best I have seen so far. Some people do get intimidated and they fail.
Quite simply, the greatest race, simply fizzing with brilliance. Enhanced by the commentary, if you want a soundtrack, try More Than a Feeling by Boston.
Was a fantastic battle, remembering others races like Indy 500, between Emmo and Al Jr,the same Al against Scott Goodyear,Sam Hornish Jr and Marco Andretti. Amazing sensations that only Indy can make us feel. Great.
they are at high speed, if you cant comprehend how dangerous is to "touch wheels" at high speed seriously u cant comprehend this sport at all... plus the amazing part is just the ending when montoya places himself behind the last car to get more speed in the last few meters, thats pretty amazing because if the race doesn't finish there montoya had to be forced to slow down and let michael win

Mercadotecnia El Vergel Sure was ! From around 1993 till about 2002, this championship was dynamite to watch ! Grids were packed with so many great teams, drivers and sponsors! Plus Ben Edwards and Jeremy Shaw made it even more awesome to listen to 👍
DJPF1011 Kinda 50/50 on that one dude ! Don't get wrong, I love both championships but I feel both still need a lot of tweaking in terms of regulations and the current generation of cars !
Epic race, Montoya is on of best drivers ever in world. Only I noticed how the guy in car in front of them felt, i bet he was shaking because these two gone beserk in matter of car speed just on his tail .)

SALUDOS desde Colombia!!! 🎉❤
That is such an epic finish. The golden days of CART. Thanks for uploading!
This was probably one of the best indycar finishes ever.
the
De todo el automovilismo!!
Montoya and Andretti both had balls of steel....yet they raced each other cleanly. That was epic....not sure what the backmarker was thinking.
the backmarker was trying to stay on the outside, i mean what else could he do?
The backmarker had nothing to do there... just wait. Montoya was waaaaay to smart/suicidal to take the slipstream of them to take the win.
@@Saturn185 Andretti tried to trap Montoya and box him in behind Tarso Marques but Montoya picked up Maques slipstream and that's what inched him ahead
Agreee!!! Adrenaline x 100!!! ❤
The commentary was so good that in France, Eurosport used the UK commentary for the highlights
