A luxury car like Lexus should have Dash Cams, front and rear as standard equipment. They are really useful in the event of an accident or even vandalism.
I 10000% agree, but I think the two-party-consent laws in some states make it a liability for them (yes I know Tesla already does that, but they take on all kinds of liability LOL). That said, since the car already has the digital mirror cam mounted at the top of the rear window, which is basically a rear facing dash cam, I feel like all they’d have to do is retrofit some kind of storage device to it. But that’s probably wishful thinking LOL!
This is also a great video for the thousands of people currently waiting for 2023 Rx’s as the infotainment systems are the same. I’ve watched 30 or more 2023 Rx videos, and none of them get into the detail of the infotainment system as this one does. Great job, Josh! I hope that Lexus engineers / designers watch this.
Thank you so much! And yes, I agree! I watched a ton of videos on both and there were still surprises when I actually got and started to live with it. It takes some getting used to, but (like you said) I hope Toyota listens to us and improves it over time haha! I’m also hoping some of the lag I’m seeing (like on the voice system initializing) is inefficient code and not insufficient processing power. That’ll kill this real quick if it is.
This is all the detailed information I needed to make my decision about this vehicle. You did an amazingly thorough job and it is greatly appreciated!!!!!
Oh I’m so happy to hear that this was so helpful to you!! Thanks so much for giving it a watch and if you decided to buy the car, best of luck and early congrats!!
I have the 23 NX350h. Love it. I too noticed the slow initialization of the touchscreen set up as well. Truly my only gripe. Very comfortable, love the styling. Everything you said. Great vehicle.
Great review and probably the best one out there..... and I have pretty much seen them all. You talk about stuff that really matter in the long run and not just facial personal preferences.
Josh this video is right on time for me. I am currently looking at the Lexus NX and I really appreciate this video because I was looking for a video from an owner! Thank you!!
Great job Josh. Love the way you communicate so clearly and logically, really well put together video. 👏👏 I agree with most things you have pointed out and there is some great feedback for Lexus for future improvements.
Hi Josh! We’re a Toyota family. My previous car was a Highlander I had it for 9 years! I traded that car in and now own a 2023 RX 350h and love my new car. I have had it for 2 months and enjoy driving that car every day. Can’t go wrong with Toyota/Lexus they’re such a liable company. ❤
Congratulations and yes!! You absolutely can never go wrong with Toyota/Lexus. I had a 2012 Highlander hybrid back in the day and loved every second of driving it. ❤️
Thank you for such a thorough video!! After saving for the last 6 yrs+ I hope to get my NX350 as my car. Your video got me so excited and a long video never needs an apology for the quality & thought you put into it.
Oh my gosh I am SO happy and excited for you!!! You are going to absolutely love it and I’m so happy your dream is going to come true! Depending on when you plan to purchase I recommend making connections with dealers well ahead of time so you’ll know what the market and supply and everything looks like and how you’ll be able to get what you want most easily. And thank you for watching and for your kind words! I’m glad that this was helpful and got you excited for your NX!
i also noticed the lack of videos of owners, mostly dealer video's so thanks for making this. i like your taste, my cloudburst grey rioja red should be in my driveway sometime this May. i went with the ultra luxury trim.
Great review of the NX 350h and many, other reviews with other products. I really like that you present likes and dislikes where other owners and vendors or solicitors always say wonder things about the Lexus. While the Lexus is an excellent product, I am super glad that we have a great excellent expert advising us as consumers the do's and don'ts along with good and not so good of this wonderful vehicle. Thank you for your intense research on this product and I personally would like to talk to you. I moved from Austin to Houston about six months ago and I need more information that I would like to talk to you about on a personal level. Thanks Josh and thank you so much because when we spend our hard-earned money, we need A PERSON like you as our advocate and critical partner in knowing what we need to ask the dealer without being snowed into just buying the vehicle.
You are so very kind to say all of this, thank you! I so appreciate you taking the time to leave such a nice note! As for wanting to connect further, I actually set up an email account, joshscarsofjapan@gmail.com if you’d like to write me there!
Thanks for this video! Very nicely done! No need for apologies.. we’re here because we want to hear everything you have to say … just got my NX350h premium yesterday (pearl white 😅 with the Rioha red interior) … learned a lot from your review .. and by the way, your tone and demeanor is calming! Please keep posting videos your way 😊
Very helpful, Josh, from a fellow local. :) I'm test driving the NX350h today - it was so difficult to even find one on a lot and am driving out of town to a dealership to do so. Good insights you mentioned that I will pay attention to when I am in the car assessing it. Thank you!
Hello, neighbor! I’m so glad this video was helpful and good on you for finding one to test drive, I know how hard that can be! But anyhow, enjoy your test drive!!
@@joshjamescars The test drive was worth it. I was hyped up on the NX350h, but after nearly hitting my head on the interior ceiling more than once, I decided it was a "no go." I'm not even a very tall person (5'5"), but for anyone with a tall torso, your head sits pretty high... even when lowering the seat as much as possible. Also, sitting in the back seat (where no seat adjustments are possible), you have maybe an inch or two leeway. The trunk space was also smaller than I expected. Anyways, I loved how it drove - very quiet and comfortable ("pleasant" as you say often), it had a feeling of power despite being a hybrid (the Honda CRV hybrid felt very weak to me in acceleration), and interior qualities were top notch. I also tried the Venza this afternoon and felt it was marginally better, but so loud for a hybrid. Wonder if they simulated some acceleration noise for "sportiness" or it's just poor insulation to the engine. Appreciate your insights on these cars via your channel. Cheers!
I’m at 4 months with my NX450h+ and love it so far. I customized my fan speeds and the on/off into my HUD. After watching LSFT’s videos I sat in the NX and switched the info in the HUD to my preferences vs factory, but it’s just myself using the car. So with 2 people it wouldn’t save those settings I assume. Great video. Post ownership updates along the way.
@@rak6223 I didn’t pay a mark up. The price with the options mine had installed was $61,800. I paid $60,900 plus tax. I got it a little under msrp since I know the sales people/staff from past Lexus purchases. State is Pennsylvania.
Josh enjoyed this video -- have watched it several times and shared. NX350h 2024 is in my near future. thanks again - enjoyed your going off-script and talking "alot." - be yourself!
Haha wouldn’t that be nice! ;) But yes, highly recommend both Lakeway and Austin. Nico Azari at the Austin location is great. I also really like Westside Lexus in Katy, ask for Tim Gallagher there if you contact them.
Very well done video! The only thing I would add, which I don’t think you specifically mentioned (multitasking why watching), is the lack of split screens. All that screen space is not being fully utilized. The whole screen has to be Apple CarPlay or the Toyota OS. I want to have Waze up and see what’s playing on SiriusXM.
I completely agree, that was sort of what I was going after in my dislike about not having a Home Screen where I could see multiple different apps and such at once. And I totally agree that there is definitely the space for it so there’s not really an excuse IMO for not having it
Fantastic review! You brought up some interesting questions regarding the infotainment system. I still plan on purchasing the NX Hybrid once inventory levels stabilize in my area, but now I am much more well informed!
Well early congrats!!! Hope you are able to get one that’s exactly what you want! It’s a phenomenal car for people who appreciate and want what it offers! Glad I could be of service to you in your shopping search too!
Very articulate I love the pace you talk. Some car reviewers sound like they’re in a hurry lol. Would you say this car compares more to a Corolla Cross or a RAV4 in terms of size?
The NX is built on a shared platform with Rav4 and Venza/Harrier so exterior dimensions are very similar to those two. However, interior volume is smaller due to the sportier styling. And thank you!
Thanks for the review. A couple of things to note: 1. I LOVE the Cloudburst gray, but I've never been a fan of red interiors. The reason, ironically, is my grandmother had a vehicle with a red interior and I always think of that as an interior color for older people! Ha ha! 2. The navigation on the previous NX that I have was the Scout GPS Link. That thing is HORRIBLE! It had me making a U-Turn on the interstate! Ugh. So I think the navigation in this model is a VAST improvement! 3. Finally, I think a lot of manufacturers are doing away with physical buttons and having a number of functions accessed via the infotainment system. It's not just luxury vehicles either. Hyundai & KIA are doing it as well.
Hi Josh, I'm on a waitlist for this car in my area and specked out the 350H Luxury, but then you said something about the leather being so difficult? Can you elaborate as to what those issues are? Thanks so much and your video was so so helpful!
Sure! What I said in the video was that the Luxury package comes with semi-aniline leather, but I got the detail wrong in the video, it doesn’t have semi-aniline leather, that’s a higher-grade that I’ve had in other European luxury cars and sooo high maintenance. The NX isn’t fancy enough for Lexus to give it that, I suppose, so it just has regular leather. But regardless, I much prefer Lexus NuLuxe. It’s a man-made textile that feels just like leather that doesn’t require any of the upkeep and babying that nice leather does. Doesn’t ever stretch, fade, stain, etc. And I’m so glad the video was helpful and I hope you get yours soon!!!
WOW, this was a great video. thank you for making this honestly this was perfect and gave me a better understanding of all the features and what i can expect soon! thanks
Do you like the way the overhead display works. what about the Soundsystem? How is the car driving at night? how about the visibility when you’re changing lanes? Is it good at this car? how about the insurance cost for this car? I would think it would be pretty expensive.
I think you need to take a test drive. The things you ask here are all subjective and relative to what you drive now. Also insurance was dirt cheap for us but we have clean driving records and excellent credit.
Not sure where you are but we got ours within a week from first call to Lexus and delivery; and in our region (Texas) there were 5 or so NX hybrids that were going to be available (not spoken for) within a month.
I’m really curious to your take on the touch pad on the steering wheel and how intuitive or frustrating it is. I’m looking to get the RX350h and that’s one of the holdups I have on the package I’m looking to get.
Hi Josh, I have the 450NXh+ but I fully agree with all your likes and dislikes but it is still a fantastic luxury car! My only other niggle is (in the UK anyway) that the live traffic and speed camera warning is nowhere as good as my previous Range Rover was but I can live with that as everything else is way better, cheers Steve
Hi Steve! That’s a fantastic vehicle. We have a Rav4 Prime and love it, so I can imagine the 450h is fantastic to drive, and that’s so interesting about the speed warning and live traffic! Though, I imagine it would be hard to beat a car that’s been designed in the market you’re buying in. It’s like how Lexus and Toyota’s vehicles are fully V2G (vehicle to grid) connected for IoT infrastructure in Japan. Cheers!
Great review! This suv is on my short list for my next vehicle purchase, so I appreciate the in depth review that you have provided. Would it be possible for you to do a review on the Toyota RAV4 Prime as well? The Rav 4 Prime is also on my short list. Thank you.
Hello and thank you! Check out the other videos on my channel. I have a comparison between the NX and the Rav. I also have a video on why I wouldn’t and didn’t buy the 450h+ and everything in there I would also apply to the RAV4 Prime. I don’t know if it’s worth the money without incentives. Something to consider on the Prime too-we are nearing 5 years on this generation of RAV4. Meaning, a new one should be coming in the next couple years. Given that, you may get your Rav4 Prime at the very tail end of the model run and a brand new even Better one may come out.
Great review. Thanks for taking the time. I also love your other cars. Are you using regular gas in this NX or the suggested premium gas? Also, since you're an NX and Rav4 Prime owner, what are your thoughts about the NX 450h+? If money and availability were not a problem, would you want the Lexus NX 450h+ over the Toyota Rav4 Prime?
Thank you for taking the time to watch!! I’ve been putting premium in it for now just because it’s brand new, but it can run on regular just fine, I’m sure. If gas prices skyrocket again, I’ll do regular LOL. NX450H+ is a hard question because I don’t think you can really take cost out of it, and the reason I say that is the ones I’ve seen available in Texas (availability doesn’t seem to be that much of an issue here) are all F-Sport Handling models at $65K MSRP or $70K OTD and I just think you can get SO many other cars for that price. That’s an RX500h, for example. Or a nicely optioned GX. We bought our Prime when there were $10K of incentives on the table, which made it an absolute bargain and brought the price down to a number that was acceptable for the Rav’s interior quality, but none of those incentives are still on the table now for either of them so you’re paying the full sticker and the NX just isn’t a $65K car IMO. Here’s the other reason I can’t divorce price from the car-we have an extra $10-$20K in appreciation on the Prime only because of the incentives and demand. There are no incentives and much lower demand for the 450h+ (guessing because it’s so expensive to begin with) so I’m not sure if it will hold its value the same way when you go to sell. From what I’ve seen, everyone wants the 350h because it’s priced so well.
I am considering the turbo option because the hybrid is in high demand and hard to get here in NJ. Sure, I could go for the BMW or Audi but Lexus has the reliability and cost to own on its side. BTW, you provided a lot of reasons to go for the NX in your “likes” section, hybrid or not.
Hello! What I’d advise you do is make contact with a bunch of different salespeople, even at the same dealers. What I’ve heard of happening a lot (and was my experience), if they have an NX hybrid come in and they call their customer who reserved it and that customer no longer wants the vehicle, that salesperson can offer it to anyone. It doesn’t have to go back into the larger dealer pool. In terms of the turbo, I would definitely test drive it first. I’m just not a fan. It’s fine for use in a Toyota but it’s nowhere near as refined as what should be in a Lexus IMO. Though, I guess we’re officially past the days of engines that sound and feel really nice to drive since all the Europeans have gone with tiny turbo-4s too.
@@joshjamescars thanks for the suggestion! I am still doing research so we’ll see. I am afraid some of the infotainment systems things you pointed out would really get on my nerves. That sort of stuff is my main gripe about new cars.
I so hear you on that. It is light years better than the touchpad and mouse thing that Lexus has done, though! And the big 14” screen is really nice to use.
Hello! The NX and RX have new door handles that are electronically actuated using a button on the inside of the handle similar to the electronic release on modern power tailgates. So to enter and exit the car is a button on the inside and a button on the outside. It’s designed that way because the car uses the blind spot radar to prevent you from opening your door and getting out into traffic. It’s a little bit odd at first but you get used to it pretty quickly.
Thanks so much for your honest review! Loved hearing about your +/- experience with the 350h. I'm trying to find one in California to test drive before buying one, but they've been hard to get a hold of! A lot of cars here are currently only available through preorder due to low supplies. I did have a question about the brakes and suspension; several review videos I watched mentioned how the brakes feel a bit jerky and the suspension system still feels not as much "driving on a cloud" as let's say a Toyota Highlander or even your Toyota Prime? Curious if this is the same experience for you and your partner! My commute for work is an hour each way so definitely looking for something more efficient and comfortable and was hoping the 350h was the one!
Hello! Before I get into the answer to your question my advice to you for buying one is to find a dealer who will refund your deposit if you decide you don’t want the car, but get on the list. California’s market is insane and unfortunately that’s the only way you’ll get one. Where I draw the line is paying above asking. Okay, now for your question. I’d you haven’t driven a hybrid before, the brakes will take some getting used to because there’s a mix of regenerative braking and actual physical brake pad braking that happens. It’s to recuperate as much energy from the drag of braking as possible. So building the muscle memory to brake gently in ANY hybrid or EV will take a little bit of time. As for the ride comfort, I think the NX is really comfortable. I tend to not put too much stock in how reviewers say cars ride because they drive so many cars that if you just got out of a Mercedes S Class of course the NX isn’t going to ride as nicely. Now, with that said, I think a lot of the press cars have the 20” wheels I have and that does make for a much firmer ride so I would avoid those and go with the standard 18” wheels so you’ll get a bigger tire which does wonders for the ride quality. Now, bigger cars generally have more weight to dampen out the ride, and of course body on frame trucks like my 4Runner feel like you’re floating on a cloud. BUT of course that comes at the cost of lower fuel economy and extra wasted space that you might not need. You might also take a look at the Toyota Venza. It’s basically a less nice Toyota version of the NX. Of the two, the NX is sportier and slightly firmer but it’s not uncomfortable by any means. I would also check out the comparison video between our Rav and NX on the channel, there’s a segment in there where I take both cars out on the road. That might be helpful to you too. I’m trying to get my hands on a venza to do a review with but I’m not a professional so I don’t know if that’ll ever happen.
Ordered my NX350H F Sport over a year ago... still waiting 😫 Went with the metallic black and black interior. In Australia we get two options they call enhancement packs. I went with enhancement pack 2 with the panoramic roof and ML stereo which I'm told is the reason for the delay because apparently they're using the stock for the RX. ONE DAY 😑
Oh man! That’s such a bummer! I really hope it comes soon for you. I think that’s really odd and not entirely sure if it’s true because I’ve seen a number of NXs around, some of which have come from Japan like I believe those for the AU market does, and they have ML. I was offered one when I was looking around. Although it could be that there’s a much smaller production for RHD markets, I could totally understand there being a different ML setup being tuned/equipped differently for that. In any case, fingers crossed it comes soon!
@Josh & John's House of Toyotas yeah we get Japanese built ones, I'm assuming just because it's much closer than Canada for us. Just checked my order form and it was actually May 4th so not quite a year but I did get an email from my dealer a few days ago saying there's still no confirmation from Lexus Japan that ours has entered production yet :(
Very good review, very true from heart. But one feedback : see how can you keep little short… The head up display adjustment to user profile point is articulated soo well… I am sure the developers didn’t think and they left it out in their requirements…
Thank you for your personal review! Very helpful! I need you to go shopping with me! Did you look at the UX250h? I am leaning toward that one. The outside is kind of funky, but no one really rides with me regularly except my 3 small dogs and my BF once in a while. I just think for every day that that one would be best for me. It's a little on the small side. That's the only thing that makes me hesitant.
I personally didn’t consider the UX but I actually had one as a courtesy car! Since I wasn’t trading anything in on the NX, the dealer was nice enough to give me one while they prepped the car so I wouldn’t have to Uber back there when the car was ready for delivery. Ended up having it for four days since an ice storm shut our city down between my purchase and delivery. I actually thought it was really well equipped and felt really premium inside considering it’s their entry level model. Even the non Mark Levinson sound system was terrific. 23 and up has the new infotainment system too on a gorgeous 10 or 12” widescreen display. Looks HUGE in the small cabin. Really nice. Like you say, the space would be the biggest issue for me; my husband and I fit in it just fine but we’re short. I think I would depend on how much space you feel like your dogs need. It’s essentially on the same platform as the Toyota CH-R and Corolla hatch (though inside it’s closer to the CH-R), so if you can’t find a UX to test drive or sit in, you might look at those two at a Toyota dealer just to get a sense of size. The other thing to consider is that although they bill it as a “crossover” it’s really a hatch back and rides lower to the ground and some people either really like or dislike that. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
Loved this video. And thank you for sharing your experience so far. I own a 2010 RX and agree with your thought that the new NX does have a similar look to the 3rd gen RX. I was hoping they’d do better with the new RX but the new NX seems to be a better option for me now. Look forward to your future videos of the NX. Your TRDPro 4R is also a stunner! Truly a dream garage.
Thank you so much for all your kind words! And I loved your generation RX. Honestly for me, the minute they took away the V6, the RX was off the table. Especially now that the RX shares the exact same powertrains with the NX (except the 500h) and I think the power is just adequate for my NX; I couldn’t imagine driving the same powertrain in a bigger, heavier RX. Same reason I’m holding onto my 4Runner; I know as soon as they refresh it, it’ll move to probably the same turbo/hybrid 4s as are in the RX.
Congrats!!! Here’s hoping it gets here soon!! I agree 100% with the price savings and I just feel like they’ll never be able to match the V6 smoothness. That was a huge part of the premium feeling in the old RX. I’ve driven that 3.5V6 in a number of cars including an older RX and an ES and it’s just amazing, effortless power.
LOL!!! I don’t dislike it, I just think certain Lexuses feel a little too boring in that color combo. This coming from someone who had a white Volvo with a beige/Amber interior in his mid-twenties, though. 😂
I have the 22 NX350h in atomic silver and rioja red in Premium package with 14 inch screen and 18inch tires which is better for the northeast winters. I think the person who designed the info software was an amateur
That’s an awesome configuration! And yes, if I lived in a winter climate I’d definitely have gone with the smaller wheels, or at least gotten them to put winter tires on.
Same here, if I can get a year out of the runflats I’ll be happy and then swap them out for Cross Climates. Fortunately for us this doesn’t have to be a road trip car because with how small the cargo area is a spare will eat up a good half of the space back there.
It is, and here’s the dealbreaker for me with the new RX-they got rid of the 3.5L V6 and now the NX and RX share the same powertrains (both hybrid and non-hybrid) and I feel like they’re just right for the NX but the new RX is a much larger, heavier vehicle and I don’t think I’d want to drive the new RX with the same engine and electric motor that’s in my NX. I had a Highlander in the past which had the same 3.5 V6 as is in your RX and I just don’t think it’s the same experience without it.
Thank you for such a wonderful review! I was a little discouraged because I can't afford a new Lexus RX 350H. I do like the looks, engine, etc. of the previous generation Lexus RX but having the new tech inside is pretty important to me. I was looking at a brand new Lexus NX 350h or a used 2021 BMW X5, and it doesn't look like you are sacrificing much at all with an NX compared to the RX, given it's only my fiancé and I. It's a brilliant little car! What would you recommend, a new Lexus NX350h or a used 2021 BMW X5 if my primary use is for freeway road trip journeys? Thanks again for another wonderful review Josh!
Hello! There are a number of considerations here and I’ll be honest and say that I don’t think either one of them is going to be ideal for road tripping. The NX lacks a spare tire which I think is a must for road tripping, while a 2021 X5 is getting to the age where you’re going to start running into some costly maintenance items especially if you’re road tripping frequently and piling on the miles. I know you say you can’t afford a new RX but I think it’s a pretty safe bet that you’ll end up paying more over 5 years with the X5 than a new RX. If you buy the X5, I would set aside about $3-5K a year for maintenance and repair. Service on European luxury cars is about $1-2K and then you’ll want to have enough for a new set of tires (and you’ll want a good set for an X5) on top of that. BMW’s CPO warranty also is very limited and only covers very specific things and so once the car is outside of the factory warranty, most technology isn’t going to be covered. A new head unit will cost you about $5-7K. Same with the fancy headlight units, etc. Finally, if you’re financing, interest rates on used are usually much, much higher. Insurance is also much higher on German versus Japanese. So you have to think about the actual, real world cost to own that X5. The worst thing anyone can do is buy a car they can afford at sticker price but then get put into debt trying to maintain it after the fact. It’s the same reason why I own a Lexus GX and not a Porsche Cayenne (traded the NX in on the GX last summer). Sure I could have gotten a used one for the same $65K I paid for my GX brand new but long term I don’t want to pay for German car ownership. Also think about the depreciation on the Lexus vs the BMW. The Lexus is going to give you WAY more back when you go to sell it down the road and I’m assuming that you’re younger like I am. That’s critical to setting ourselves up for success in the long term. You want as much back when you go to sell this car as you can get. All that said, if I had to pick between the two I’d go with the NX. But I would highly recommend you sacrifice the luxury badge (and the ego boost) and use the same money to get a really nice new Highlander or something like that. Or maybe look at a certified 2022 RX if you really absolutely have to have a premium badge.
Thank you so much for getting back to me! I didn't realize how quickly either. This really helps me weight the pros and cons, and after comparing the options, insurance, etc. Thanks again!@@joshjamescars
SO excited for you!!! Not sure if you’re a viewer of my other channel or if this is just a wonderful coincidence but I love my Lexuses and I love my Billinghams!!!
@@joshjamescars Yes! Your Billingham videos kept me going at the start of the pandemic. I was a working photographer but recently retired and was in the market for a new car (after realizing the need from a recent roadtrip up the California coast). Cheers!
Thanks for an amazing review! Right now, I am choosing between an NX h, a RAV4, hybrid, or a CRV Hybrid. I found your reviews very helpful. Do you have any thoughts about the comfort of the seats and the headroom height of your NX compared to your RAV4? I am 6’1” and feel like the Nx that I sat in…in the show room, was a little tight to the top of my head. The RAV and the CRV feel roomier. But I want to love the NX and am hoping this is a seat adjustment or moonroof issue.
Hello! Would recommend you check out the other videos I’ve done linked below. The NX is small for sure, and I feel like it’s perfect for someone my size (I’m about 5’6”) but I can totally imagine taller folks being less comfortable. The Rav is a substantially bigger vehicle because it is so boxy. See the Rav vs NX comparison below for 1:1 footage. And finally the CR-V is the most refined, even moreso than the NX. I was SO impressed by the CR-V and actually had a deposit down on it for a bit before the Honda dealer screwed up. Rav vs NX comparison: th-cam.com/video/PpKYDpG-vpY/w-d-xo.html I address the CR-V directly here: th-cam.com/video/G_pgsBV_hw0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much. I will check out your CRV review below. I just wish that the CRV had the technology that the Lexus does. I want to laugh Alexis and it doesn’t cost much more than the Honda.
I totally agree with the CR-V not having competitive technology. The thing to know about the NX is that it CAN have good technology but none of it comes standard so before you know it, you’re pushing $60K where the CR-V has a hard stop at $40K.
i drive lexus cars for a while now, the biggest issue i had with them was cvt transmition so went for a rx 500h only car in a Lexus lineup (at least in eu) that has regular automatic transmition and does not sound like a drill when you rev it. it is a shame they didnt do the same for a top spec NX since it is a great car but cvt just spoils the fun :/
It’s a real shame. I’ve been a Toyota loyalist for my entire driving life and will keep my 4Runner forever, but this Lexus will likely be the last Toyota I buy. I can’t get over them going to the turbo-4s and turbo-hybrid-4s. The NX here is a relatively well priced semi-premium car so it’s not full on luxury money so I can overlook the CVT but the 500h is a hard pass for me. Like they’re trying to sell a turbo-hybrid-4 on a front wheel drive bias platform shared with the Camry as a performance car. Not sure about there, but for the money that they’re asking here in the US, I’d MUCH rather buy a BMW, Audi, or Porsche. We still have V6 and V8 Lexuses with 6 and 8 speed transmissions here in the US but they’re all going away in the next few years and when they do, so will I as a customer.
in the hud, the caller is a higher priority than where you are going. After 60 seconds, the caller isn't needed. Also, why does apple and amazon music need a data plan? The digital key has been a bit flaky for me. I had had to reset it 4 times so far.
I totally agree with the caller priority! I’m hoping they may allow us to change some settings thru software later. Apple Music and Amazon music need a data plan because they’re not apps going through the data on your phone but rather built into the car. I personally like that (not paying for data but that it’s not reliant on my phone). As for digital key, as someone who works in software engineering, I have serious concerns about the privacy and security of it so I don’t use it and don’t recommend anyone else does either.
@@joshjamescars thank you for your awesome response! For me on the data plan, it should be an option/setting. On the digital key, I get why one would choose not to use it. My point is if it is there, they should make it less frustrating to use.
It doesn’t matter, honestly. The whole powertrain is exactly what’s in the Rav/Venza/Highlander/RX. The tune might give you marginally more power if you use premium but it’s not necessary the way it is in a BMW, Audi, MB, or Volvo where their high compression turbo engines do actually need 93 octane.
I currently have a 4Runner and I’m considering swapping it for the NX hybrid for better gas mileage. My husband has a Chevy Silverado so we don’t really need the off-road and capabilities of the 4Runner in 2 of our cars. Could you touch on how those two compare as far as driving goes? Do you prefer have one handles more than the other?
Heyyy! I think we were talking on Reddit too on the thread about your hubby having a ZR2, 4-door Silverado! Great to see you here too LOL!! The 4Runner to NX is night and day. Literally. Not bad or good just different. Lower seating position, way more refined, less rugged, lighter steering, more technology, etc. I think it’s the perfect compliment to a truck (talking about your Silverado). And even though you’re moving from a truck to a compact crossover, because it’s a Toyota you’ll still have the same dependability and reliability as the 4Runner. I think they actually do 60 in around the same time (mid-7 second range) but the NX might feel faster because of the electric torque. If I were getting rid of my 4Runner tho I would miss the low end pull and the feeling of the naturally aspirated 4-Liter. There’s NO replicating that with any turbo or hybrid. Otherwise, though, I think the NX is great. The only thing you won’t have is the GIGANTIC enclosed cargo space that the 4Runner has (unless your Silverado has a camper shell on it). But if you never use all of it, I think you’re fine. If you’re coming from the 4Runner, which has an interior that always looks good and you never have to really worry much about, I might steer clear of the luxury package leather and go with NuLuxe. If you’ve never had a car with that grade of semi-aniline leather, it’s a real pain to keep it nice. You HAVE to condition and clean it weekly and anytime you wear jeans and leather just naturally expands and loses its luster over time, and how good it looks visually goes a long way to getting more for it when you go to sell it later on. The NuLuxe is fantastic and a nicer quality version of the SofTex that’s in most 4Runners. Hope this helps!!!
Ah. That wasn’t clear-thanks for clarifying. I mentioned 0-60 because it is an important factor in terms of how the vehicle drives in comparison to the 4Runner (about the same time but totally different feeling). Theoretical range on a single tank is 500 miles (14.5 gallon tank at 35mpg) but that is entirely dependent on your fuel economy and fuel economy is entirely dependent on your driving style, whether you’re driving highway versus stop and go, and how many people or how much stuff you’re carrying (weight). Here in Texas with the way I drive (fast) I get between 28 and 32 mpg so my theoretical range is more like 400-450 miles.
@@joshjamescars All of this was so incredible helpful! Yes I came across your channel on TH-cam but didn't put two and two together. Thanks for answering all of my questions on both platforms. Appreciate it!
Hi Josh, I was checking to see if the NX350h is FWD bias; and when AWD is on, the power is 50/50 split on both axles? Thanks again. I placed an order for the 2024 model.
Hello! Yes, the car is FWD bias and AWD isn’t just on or off, it’s constantly modulating the power that’s being sent to each wheel as necessary to keep the car moving forward. It’s also not an even 50/50 split because power isn’t being shared across axels, the main engine and electric motor are sending power to the front wheels and then there’s an entirely separate rear electric motor sending power to the rear wheels. This isn’t like my 4Runner which has true, mechanical 4WD and can actually do off-roading and such, so keep that in mind. The CR-V hybrid has an actual mechanical linkage from the engine to the rear axle but the NX and Rav don’t. The eAWD is only for maintaining traction on the highway.
Nice review, My 350nxh is still awaiting a build date, hopefully soon as Japan are getting back on track now.. The red leather interior was my choice, in UK the model below Takumi or whatever it’s called, has leather. I have driven both with leather & non leather & both are really good. I hope the leathe turns out ok and seats don’t give and say like my old merry did. My only wish is taat there were more colour options. I’ve had grey in a few forms but am tired of it now. Also the red option in the UK is not as nice or I would have had red, but with a red interior I wasn’t sure. I’ve gone for the pearl white with red interior . I suppose an option is to put a wrap or protection film of some contrast colour on. Anyway back to dreaming of my new Lexus for now Again a good comprehensive & honest review, 👌
Ah I hope it gets built and arrives to you soon!! The leather will be fine as long as you are gentle with it and clean and condition it on a regular basis so that the leather retains its moisture. As for the collapsing, I don’t think you need to worry too much about that; Lexus and Toyota have great seat cushioning. The one thing I will say that not many people know about softex (toyota)/nuluxe (lexus) is that with softex, the textile is actually bonded to the seat foam, versus leather which just wraps around it because leather will expand and relax over time where softex won’t (another reason I love softex/nuluxe).
Thanks! It would be the NX for sure. The UX is great but it has some limitations. The interior and cargo area is too cramped, especially for how much it costs. It’s based on the Toyota CHR as that was the only subcompact Toyota had at the time it was being developed, so it makes sense that it is the way it is. But I’m guessing/hoping that when they redesign it they base it on the new Corolla Cross instead (which like the UX is one class down from the Rav4 which the NX is based on) because the Corolla Cross is a fantastic size. Even the NX though wouldn’t be too big for Boston city streets and parking lots. It’s a really great size footprint wise. The other limitation on the UX is that the eAWD system only works up to 32 mph. Don’t know why, but it’s mostly for getting unstuck at lower speeds. 32 is what we do here in Texas on little side streets but any main road is way over 40 and IMO AWD on crossovers is most useful for maintaining solid traction and drive on slick roads at highway speeds. I’m imagining driving in winter weather up in the Northeast. Even on snow plowed and salted roads you want that all-wheel traction going around curves at higher speeds. The NX can run all four wheels at all speeds. You might also have a little more trouble with getting through snow buildup if that’s an issue where you drive because the UX is really a hatch back and it’s low to the ground where the NX is a proper crossover.
You are most welcome! I’m not sure what the market is like there but it might not hurt to inquire with a few dealers now and see if it’s going to be a wait. If it is, then I might put down a deposit now to secure your place in line and save money in the meantime! Cheers!
Great video. I am curious on the wait time for your NX. Is it still 6 months to a year out? For I am an owner of the 2022 model and was one of the first pioneers and got lucky in only waiting a month for it in January of 2022.
Thank you! I called our Lexus salesman out of the blue one Friday afternoon and was able to take delivery the following week, so virtually no waiting at all; it probably isn’t the norm but while looking for one there was also a fully loaded luxury that was going to be available within the month in Houston, so seems like they aren’t super hard to get now.
Very helpful review. Thank you for sharing. Do you have any complaints about the blank, haptic contextual controls on the steering wheel? It seems like an extra layer of complexity that didn’t need to be there. Just wondering if you get used to it.
Thank you!!! And oddly I don’t. I thought I would, but I got used to them pretty quickly and although it is maybe more complicated than it needs to be I like that you can see exactly what you’re about to press without having to take your eyes off the road. I don’t know how to explain it but with some other modern Toyotas (and cars in general) they cram so many tiny buttons on the wheel that you do sometimes have to look and or think about what to press to do what you want and the seconds it takes for your eyes to look down, refocus on the wheel, press the button, look back up, refocus on the road; this system kind of mitigates that. Once you customize this wheel the way you want it, it makes it pretty intuitive.
Good to know. Thanks very for your reply. I share your disappointment about the lack of a hard button for the fan speed, but as you said, that’s the way most cars are going. Despite the few issues, it seems like Lexus really got so many things right with this car. Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy it!
So I actually just discovered by way of someone else who commented that yoj can program the button bank on the steering wheel to have climate controls and it’s life changing! 😂
OMG! I am a subscriber to your luxury channel. This is such a coincidence . Today, May 20, 2023, I began to look for a new car. I brought my 16-year old Lexus GS 350 for service and was offered an NX 350 Hybrid AWD exactly like yours in Cloudburst Grey with Red interior as my loaner. It was offered to me, because I plan to trade my car in for a NX 250 and my service advisor wanted me to take the NX home and test it out over the weekend. I plan to get either Atomic Silver or Caviar Black with Black Interior though. I don't want the Turbo, because I was told the scheduled maintenance would be more frequent and costly than the non-turbo. The hybrid is more money which is outside my budget for a car. The NX looks like a Rav 4 on Steroids...LOL. Oh no... you don't like the NX 250. 😂😪😐😥😭😱😢😳
Hello!! Oh that is too funny!! The NX is a great car and I’m glad you’re getting to test drive it before you buy! That said, yes unfortunately I don’t like the turbo either, I hate the way turbo-4s drive. And the 250 I wouldn’t recommend you buy because the 4-cylinder engine in it comes right out of a base model Rav4 or Camry and I just don’t feel like it belongs in a Lexus. It’s slow and unrefined. You’re currently test driving the hybrid and its a lot different than that base engine. What I might recommend you do if they can’t find you an NX250 to test drive is go to the Toyota dealer and ask to test drive a gas only rav4. It’ll be the exact same engine. If there’s any way you could comfortably stretch your budge to get the 350h I would. OR, if not I might advise you take a look at the Toyota Venza. It’s the same car underneath the skin as the NX (engine, platform, etc.) and you can get a fully loaded Venza with all the things (big screen, pano roof, HUD, 360 cam, etc.) for around $44K. It’s an incredible car for the money and genuinely feels like a Lexus especially in the higher trim models.
good analysis, thank you. good thing is as you mentioned, they can fix many of the negative points (by the way, very valid points) through a simple software update. cheers.
@@joshjamescars hey, would you please share what is your actual gas millage and why you didn't buy the 450h? what is 450h gas millage in compare with your 350h? thank you
Sure! I’m going to give you two caveats here because they both impact my mileage. First, the car is still in its break-in period and your fuel economy will never be at its best when the car is brand new. Second, I don’t drive all that nicely LOL. I tend to drive fast and accelerate hard and we do 85-105 on the freeways here and hybrids don’t do all that well at those speeds. BUT, even with all that considered I’m doing around 30 mpg which is pretty good all things considered. As for the 450h+, I just didn’t need a plug in and didn’t want to pay for it. If you don’t know how PHEVs work, I’d look into that for a full explanation. We also have a Rav4 Prime which is the exact same vehicle as the 450h+ underneath. The only difference between the 350h and 450h is the bigger electric battery that allows you to drive on full EV for 35 miles. That’s it, it doesn’t actually improve fuel economy when running in hybrid mode. Actually, after the battery is depleted, the fuel economy is actually worse than the 350h because the bigger battery in there is so heavy and adds a ton of weight to the car. You HAVE to plug in the 450h+ daily to make the most use out of it. And you’re paying a big premium (about $8-10K more) for the 35 miles of EV range. And there’s no federal tax credit or state incentive available for us on the 450h+. Finally, at this point, the only 450h+ models I’ve seen available for sale are the fully loaded F-Sport Handling version which is $65K MSRP so $70K out the door and that’s just WAY too much for an NX.
I’m so glad! I’m actually working on a video about it because this is one of the most frequently asked questions I get! Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
Some similarities with yourselves and myself and my partner. He purchased an NX350H AWD in the same colour (we’ve now been waiting a year for it to arrive). He insisted on the Palamino interior though, which is the semi-aniline leather as you mentioned (he ordered the top trim as he wanted the panoramic roof and Mark Levinson), so that’s going to be interesting considering he knows nothing about cars!! We’re in Australia and have the same 250, 350/350H and 450h+, but ours are split into Luxury, F Sport and Sports Luxury, with the latter two being almost identically priced… and then the options are bundled into ‘Enhancement Packs’. Really really great insights into your ownership experience. The only question I have is about the E-AWD… is the delay due to it not being mechanically connected ever annoying?
WOW. I can’t believe the wait on these is still that long in some places. We got ours in a week or so after putting a deposit down. Not sure if you can get Chemical Guys products in Australia but cleaning and conditioning once a week was the saving grace for the semi-aniline leather we had in our XC90 before this. Which had Amber leather which is almost identical in color to Palomino. GORGEOUS. Putting a link to their US site below, hope you can access it. Cleaning is key to remove any color transfer and dirt/grime that accumulates and then conditioning it to keep it moisturized (just like skin) is critical, or it’ll crack. Also, semi-aniline leather scratches and scuffs like crazy so be very gentle getting in and out (like jeans and pants rubbing over the edge of the seat as you get in and out). It’s so high maintenance BUT so worth it if you don’t mind that. I was over it after our years with the XC90 LOL. Also, on the AWD note-it’s not annoying BUT if you’re on slick or loose pavement getting the AWD to engage is a little counter intuitive if you’ve driven a mechanical 4x4. Where in a mechanical 4x4 you ease up on the accelerator if you start to slip, you actually have to lean into the accelerator in the eAWD system to force slip to get the rear wheels to kick in. The trail/off road mode helps too if you’re going to be on a gravel road or something where you want it on constantly. www.chemicalguys.com/leather-cleaner-and-conditioner-complete-leather-care-kit/SPI_109_16.html?gtmListValue=Internal%20Search
It’s half the same-the 4-cylinder engine is shared with the Rav hybrid but the electric motors are larger than the Rav’s. It’s exactly the same powertrain as is in the new RX and Highlander hybrids. And no, here in the US there is only one self-charging hybrid, which is the 350h. There is a 450h plug-in hybrid above it, though.
I think it depends on how long or tall your torso is but the seat has great travel. I’m short (5’6”) and have the seat halfway up in its travel. I can even sit in the seat with it all the way up in its travel and also be fine. But as always test drive if you can!
@@joshjamescars just test drove! I have the seat all the way down but my hair can still touch the ceiling a little bit if reclined upright. However, if I lean back a little bit, it’s more comfortable. Unfortunately I feel like the visor hinders the view a little bit. I’m not super comfortable but not super uncomfortable. Tough decision.
I’ve heard the same thing from other tall folks about the NX and RDX for that matter. I think you might want to go up a class in that case. The RX will give you more space all around and the price difference isn’t that big-they can be the same price in fact if you give up a few of the nicer features on the NX.
I personally don’t care for it because I think it looks boring. I think Lexus’ interiors look best when there’s contrasting color that really highlight the design of them and their colors are absolutely beautiful. If not red, palomino or the light beige/white color. Especially the NX, with black it kind of just looks like any other Toyota out there.
They’re actually not terrible! Granted they’re brand new and in Austin where I live our roads are kept in pretty good condition, BUT I will definitely be replacing them with Michelin Cross Climates once these wear down which I’m sure will happen in no time since runflats have such short lifespans.
Hi Josh, I've driven an NX 350 and feel the car is a bit bumpy since it's smaller than the Rx350. Did this car feel smooth for a long trip as compare to the smooth feel of the Rx 350? Thanks
It really depends which one you’ve driven and are interested in. The F-Sport and F-Sport handling of both the NX and RX are quite rigid. Bigger wheels and lower profile tires will make the ride more bumpy on either car and that’s where everyone is going. The run flats that Lexus puts on the NX stock also are terrible so a lot can/could be fixed with better tires. The new RX has moved away from the super smooth 3.5 V6 too in favor of the turbo which is a total dealbreaker for me. The size of this car for me isn’t an issue on longer trips but for 8+ hours I’m taking my 4Runner. Also because most NXs don’t come with a spare tire anymore.
The NX is considerably smaller inside, especially the rear seat and cargo area. It feels like it’s almost a full class down from the Rav. The Rav is so boxy and upright (it’s 3 inches taller than the NX) and so the windows are much bigger and more square so it makes the inside feel more airy and its taller exterior means a bigger feeling interior even though they’re about the same in footprint. The NX is more coupe-like and has a lower, sportier stance; you really see the difference inside. The NX won’t do much for hauling anything substantial around. For us that’s okay because the 4Runner is basically a box on wheels. But if interior space is a concern, I’d go and see one in person to make sure it’s going to work for you.
People have said that the RX is more comfortable than the NX. Why would Lexus do that and not use the same seats in both vehicles and/or suspension? If I was the head of design, both vehicles should function exactly the same and size would only be the difference. This way, no one can ever say the RX is better.
Well, first I think that comfort is subjective so it depends who is saying that and why. Japanese compact cars are too small and cramped for some of my taller and wider friends so that I can understand. I also think some people find “comfort” in having more space and the RX does definitely have more space. I also think the RX is better in some ways but the NX is also way better in others. Especially the power trains right now. Because the NX and RX actually share the same engines and powertrains for all 350 and 350h vehicles, the NX actually has better power. I also think that the NX is FAR better looking than the RX. Also, F-Sport models are always firmer and harsher in ride than non F-sports. So even with better seats an RX F-Sport might be less comfortable than my NX with the more comfort oriented suspension. But, I guess I just don’t worry about anyone saying their car is better than mine if mine is perfect for me? I don’t have time or care to worry about someone saying their car is better than mine.
We also just received a new 350H NX. Josh mentioned the fact that the HUD position doesn’t change with the different user profiles. I found that the temperature setting doesn’t change either. It did with our old NX. I’ve had conflicting information from Lexus as to whether it should change with driver. Some say it should and others say it doesn’t. Does anybody know for sure?
I don’t believe that changes either, and I didn’t even realize that until you said it. Where I live it’s always a different temperature out whenever I get into the car (or if I’m coming back to it on the same day it’s set to where I wanted it to start) so I’m always changing it anyway. Like if it was a warm afternoon out, the next morning it’s chilly so I’ll have to change it anyhow. It may also be a setting that I just haven’t found yet, I feel like I discover something new every week.
Thanks, Josh. My husband and I are about the same height so the hud position isn’t an issue. But we both have different temperature preferences so, with the old NX the driver side - and passenger side - temperature would change to our individual preference. The new one remains at whatever temperature the last driver used.
That’s interesting! I wonder if it has something to do with the hard buttons on the old one vs the new digital screen controls. I hope they can update that with software because id very much like the HUD thing to be fixed and it would be really nice if temperature did also sync with the driver profile.
I actually didn’t have to wait at all, but this was our 9th Toyota/Lexus and we have a relationship with the dealer. Supply seems to ebb and flow, though, I was more recently told by the same dealer that I got lucky because it’s back to a 4-6 month wait again. And no, I didn’t pay anything above MSRP, our dealer is great and doesn’t do that.
Thanks for the video from an owner. I'm currently looking at the NX. I wondered if you had cross-shopped it with the Venza especially since y'all seem to be a Toyota family. If so, wonder if you could say some about that. Also, if you plan to swap out the run-flats? And, the video wasn't too long.
Hello! I actually just got back from a work trip where I had a Venza rental car and was drove it quite a bit for the three days I had it. My best friend has a Venza Limited also. I was actually thinking of a loaded Venza when I was first shopping because I wanted something more premium than a Rav but in the same size class with the hybrid power train. My two issues with the Venza are: 1. They’re not available at all. At least not brand new. And I wanted a fully loaded one and those just weren’t available at all new or used. 2. The Venza has gotten expensive. Especially for a loaded Limited with the stargaze roof and everything I was in the mid to high 40s. This NX was only about $8K more. For a Lexus that comes with the badge, and nicer interior and the Lexus dealer experience. Technology wise, the NX has a bigger center screen but otherwise they’re about equal on technology. The Venza gets a better digital gauge display, actually. I’ll also say, if you could do with the LE or XLE, I might go that way and save some money because the low trim Venza rental I had still had a lot of luxury touches (auto folding mirrors, sound deadening plastic shrouding around the windows, power steering column, power rear gate, and good sound even without JBL). And my best friend’s Venza Limited feels almost identical, badge aside, from my NX. Something else to know about the Venza. They just released the PHEV a few months back for other world markets. I don’t know if that will ever come stateside but if it does, you can bet it’ll be cheaper than the NX450H+ which is WAY too expensive in my book. Run flats are fine, not great but really not bad. I’m going to get some wear out of them since I “paid” for them with the car but they’ll be getting swapped out for Michelin Cross Climates as soon as they start to wear or before winter, whichever happens first.
@@joshjamescars Thank you for taking so much time to reply. I hate buying cars. I have a 2005 acura tsx with 75000 miles on her. I bought new and have only one major repair-alternator last year. So, want something that will last. I agree about price on Venza. And, do like the Lexus badge and dependability. And, it has to be a hybrid so...... Thanks, again. 🏳🌈
Oh man, you just can’t beat old Acura! I wish I’d bought a TSX sport wagon when I had the chance. Also, given that I now know you have a TSX, what I might suggest you look at in addition to an NX is the ES. If you’d consider a non-crossover and non-AWD, that’s one absolutely amazing sedan. It’s so luxurious, so refined, so quiet and if you’d consider a non-hybrid, the V6 is also absolutely phenomenal. The hybrid is too, of course. But the V6 is gone after this generation. Otherwise the NX is terrific and I think a much better use of your money than the Venza. Either one will last a few hundred thousand miles, though!
@@joshjamescars Many people have noted the engine in the Venza, like the Rav4, gets pretty loud at higher revs or quick acceleration off the line or passing on the highway for example. Did you notice a difference between the Venza and your NX is this regard? The Lexus has much more sound treatment baked in and presumably that is one reason it is much quiter overall including less engine noise. What are your thoughts and/or experience Venza vs NX?
@@rockinggator969 A few different answers here… The NX is loud at high revs but this is one of the downsides of Toyota’s hybrid system in general. Whether Venza, Sienna, Highlander, RX, ES, etc., it’s a tiny little 4-cylinder in there working really hard to move a big vehicle around. That’s why they’re so efficient. It’s a trade off. So unfortunately, it’s never going to be as smooth and refined as a V6 which has a smoother, quieter, and more even tone curve thats more pleasant to listen to and easier to tune out. A V6 is never working nearly as hard as the tiny little 4-cylinder has to. The Venza actually has very similar manners to the NX, though, and has more sound insulation than the Rav. The 22 Venza I had for a week in Phoenix had the same plastic shrouding around the windows and rubber gaskets in the door line as the NX and I found them to be very similar in terms of overall refinement. The Venza is made in Japan and there is a difference there in build quality and overall refinement I can attest to having two Japan made Toyotas and the NX being made in Canada. With that said, we test drove the brand new 2023 CR-V hybrid and that was FAR more refined than even the NX because unlike in Toyota’s hybrid system (parallel hybrid) the CR-V’s is mostly a serial hybrid where the engine isn’t always directly in the driveline like it is in Toyota’s. So, what that means is the CR-V uses the engine as a generator to power the electric motor but the electric motor is what’s moving the wheels and thus in the driveline. So you’re not getting all the vibration and harshness from the gas engine coming through the pedals and steering column most of the time. That’s where a lot of the actual NVH comes from in Toyota hybrids. It’s really astounding how good the CR-V is. If NVH is your biggest concern, I say CR-V all the way. The CR-V also has advanced active noise cancellation and the Sport Touring trim has resonance reducing wheels that use foam resonators fixed to the inside of the wheel cavity cancel out the noise from poor pavement. You give up some efficiency but that’s again, the trade off with Toyota’s hybrid system. Now, if I were to buy a Venza it would have to be a fully loaded Limited because I need a moonroof and the big screen. At that point, you’re around $47-$48K for a Venza. That’s just too close to what I paid for my NX ($53), so for me that counts out the Venza full stop. However, if you were to get a base LE venza or XLE (neither of which get a moonroof) then I would absolutely go that way.
Semi-aniline leather seats are not available on any version of the NX, but leather seats are available with the luxury package. Semi-aniline is a higher grade of leather, which is available on other models like the RX and ES. Just a small nitpick. Thanks for the in-depth video.
Ah right you are! I was misinformed by a dealer as to what grade of leather came on the luxury package. And yes you are right it is a much higher grade of leather as is available on the RX and ES. Makes me wonder what quality leather is actually in the NX.
From what I understand it’s a 10-speaker Pioneer setup (have heard that from the Canadian market). I think most people don’t touch on it because it’s nothing special. It’s absolutely serviceable, but it’s not for audiophiles. When I bought they didn’t have any that had ML unfortunately.
Thanks for this video. Love how you did your review. Like my wife and I, we are a Toyota / Lexus family. You mentioned your other TH-cam channel. Please let me know so I can give it a follow.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it! My main channel is here though I should tell you it’s all just nonsense about random luxury goods. 😂youtube.com/@joshjames2141
I really liked your video on NX 350H. You can tell you really like the car. It really looks is upscale to the Rav4. My question would be is it noisy when you accelerate. (or Same as other regular engine autos?) Other videos complain about that problem. I ordered a NX 350H Luxury Cloudburst Grey with palomino interior October and in January they said they will make a Caviar with my options IN February so I jumped on it. it is scheduled to arrive by the end of the month. It was exciting the find out that it had been made and processed. Thanks again for the review and keep the videos coming.
Thank you! It does get noisy when you accelerate hard (off the line, up a hill, or passing on the highway) but it’s not worse or louder than an RX or ES with the 3.5L V6. And the power is really great because of the larger electric motor that’s shared with the much larger Highlander and RX hybrids. Doesn’t sound as good as that but it’s the same kind of experience. Under light or gentle acceleration, though, you almost have to look down to see if the EV light is on because sometimes I can’t tell. Congrats on the Caviar luxury! I hope you get it soon! Get that car ceramic coated if you plan to drive it on the daily. It’s essentially the same black that we have on our other two and ceramic coating will reduce a lot of work that otherwise is required to keep it looking nice.
Josh, I did receive my NX about 5 weeks ago. It is a great car. I am so glad that I was able to get the hybrid. I don't see a problem with CVT, especially in the sport mode. I am so glad that you recommended to get the car ceramic coated from Lexus. It is amazing. All I have had to do was to rinse the car off and wipe it down and it looks great. Also, people complain about the door handles, I feel it is superior to the old style handles both from the outside and inside. Just so easy. Thanks for your recommendations and your car reviews.
Yes!!! And hello to a fellow owner!
Great review and probably the best one out there..... and I have pretty much seen them all. You talk about stuff that really matter in the long run and not just facial personal preferences.
Thank you! That’s high praise and I very much appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Josh this video is right on time for me. I am currently looking at the Lexus NX and I really appreciate this video because I was looking for a video from an owner! Thank you!!
I’m so glad it was helpful to you! It’s a great car and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you pick it, though my two cents-go for the hybrid! ;)
Great job Josh. Love the way you communicate so clearly and logically, really well put together video. 👏👏 I agree with most things you have pointed out and there is some great feedback for Lexus for future improvements.
This is such a kind comment, thank you! I’m so glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching!
Great video. Everything is very well explained. I agree with your likes and dislikes.
Yeaahh!!! Cloudburst/Rioja is the best combo! So excited for you and thanks for watching!
Please keep posting videos your way 😊
Congrats on the new car!!! And thank you for such a lovely comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed.
Cheers!
Love you're actually an owner and have drove the car for 6 months! I get my 350H luxury any day now!
Early congratulations to you on the new car!!! Hope it comes in soon!!!
I have the same exact car down to the interior and exterior color! I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing
That’s amazing!!! I feel like we have the best color combo! ;)
Excellent review - thank you! Highly considering the NX 350h
Thank you! It’s an amazing car, I absolutely love it, especially because it doesn’t have any real competition in the premium space!
Ah I forgot to respond to this, THANK YOU and @lsft for the tip! I didn’t realize you could do that! And congrats on the 450h+!!
hi Chris, did you pay a markup for your 450h+? do you mind sharing how much it cost and what state did you buy it from? Thank you
@@rak6223
I didn’t pay a mark up. The price with the options mine had installed was $61,800. I paid $60,900 plus tax. I got it a little under msrp since I know the sales people/staff from past Lexus purchases. State is Pennsylvania.
@@chrisstewart7147 congratulation. thank you.
Just test drove a RX350 today in PA . Really liked
Josh enjoyed this video -- have watched it several times and shared. NX350h 2024 is in my near future. thanks again - enjoyed your going off-script and talking "alot." - be yourself!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed and early congrats on your future NX!!
Mad respect love that you know what's up and of course Yota Fam! 🙌🏼
Thank you!!! YOTA FAM!! 👊🏼
Your review was excellent! I drove the NX350h as a loaner and fell in love!
Thank you!! It’s an amazing car!
They need to sponsor you! I'm in Austin and looking for a new car. I'm heading over there based on your review.
And I totally agree that there is definitely the space for it so there’s not really an excuse IMO for not having it
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on the NX350h. I’m wanting to get one myself. I’m hoping you will do some more videos on it :)
I absolutely will!!! And hope the wait isn’t too long for you!!!
Thank you Josh! I will hopefully have my nx 350h in a couple of months and watching your review is really helpful
Awesome!!! And early congrats I hope it comes soon and that you love it!
@@joshjamescars Thanks a lot!
Very thoughtful and useful review. Well done!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Great review. Can’t wait to buy mine.
Fingers crossed it comes soon for you!!!
Best car I have ever owned so worth the wait
Absolutely agreed!
Thanks for the review. A couple of things to note:
Thank you for posting this helpful and informative video!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
WOW, this was a great video. thank you for making this honestly this was perfect and gave me a better understanding of all the features and what i can expect soon! thanks
Woo!!! Early congrats to you, hope you get it soon! And thank you for watching and commenting!
What a fantastic video! Thank you very much for all the efforts you put into this!
Thank you so much for such a nice comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching!
@@joshjamescars I am about to pick up mine tomorrow! Timely review and great advice, with meticulous attention to details!
@dearhallmark2 Congratulations!!! It’s an amazing car and I hope you get many great years of ownership out of it! Cheers!
Such a great video…clear, honest, and succinct! I’ll be test driving an NX350H later this week…thanks for your insights!
Thank you so much! And hope you enjoy your test drive, it’s a terrific vehicle!!!
order..than wait wait and wait some more
Not sure where you are but we got ours within a week from first call to Lexus and delivery; and in our region (Texas) there were 5 or so NX hybrids that were going to be available (not spoken for) within a month.
@@joshjamescars well you got lucky. ..its 8 to 10months wait still in much of the US. Im in Canada...where they are made
Oh boy I feel sorry for you all with the way toyota treats the Canadian market. If I lived there I would boycott the brand on that alone.
Everything you said and mentioned will not bother my wife because she wants good music and smooth ride. 😂
@@joshjamescars Thank you for the reply. Yup, I am thinking that I may wait for the new version of the rav 4 prime and compare to the Lexus.
Very good review. Nearly all the so called expert auto journalists on here only talk about 0-60, touchscreens etc... nothing of value.
“So called” haha! Exactly my thoughts. But thank you, I appreciate it, and thanks for watching!
@@joshjamescars Thank you so much for your feedback! Appreciate it!
Great video. Really well done. And the talking is absolutely ok. You mentioned that you talk to much… Thanks very much.
Thank you so much! I so appreciate your kind words, and glad you enjoyed!
Really enjoyed your video. Really like my NX350h despite some of the similar dislikes. The good far outweigh the minor issues
Thank you! And I totally agree with you-minor issues and mostly software addressable so hopefully Toyota takes care of those in the coming years
What’s a Digital Door Handle? Thx. Great video.
Lexus/Toyota one of the best vehicles to buy !!!! Enjoy it !!!
Thank you!!!
Love this review. Good job.
Thank you!
great video. i am on the list for the 350h. some day I will get one. if there was a rebate I would get the 450.
Yes! Same here; without it, it’s just not worth it. And I hope you get yours soon!
Great review. Can I use gas 87 in my Lexus 2024 NX 350H luxury package? Thank you
Yes! I put 87 in mine as it’s the minimum octane rating as stated in the manual! :)
Ordered my NX350H F Sport over a year ago... still waiting 😫
Went with the metallic black and black interior.
Thank you! I always try to include chapters so you can skip if the full thing is too long for you..
11:25 me being 20 and loving black+beige white+beige 🧍🏽♂️
LOL!!! I don’t dislike it, I just think certain Lexuses feel a little too boring in that color combo. This coming from someone who had a white Volvo with a beige/Amber interior in his mid-twenties, though. 😂
Great video, I’m a new subscriber.
Thank you!! Welcome aboard!
Thank you, I have an older RX350 and love the 2023 but it feels larger and the NX seems more compact and in my desire.
@@jml9550 Mine is a 2007 RX 350 and only 119k miles. But I am ready to have the new technology and get another car for 15 years.

So true about the RX. A few weird design choices that make the NX a million times nicer. Sucks if you need a bigger option than NX
Completely agreed! I was wondering if the face would grow on me over time but it still hasn’t. 😂
Just ordered mine in Nori green + Black/Rich Creme to match my Billinghams. LOL. 3 weeks wait. I can't hardly wait!
Cheers!
Aw I’m so glad to hear this!!! And fantastic!!! I will be back home for a visit to the California coast this summer and can not wait.
Rav vs NX comparison: th-cam.com/video/PpKYDpG-vpY/w-d-xo.html
I address the CR-V directly here: th-cam.com/video/G_pgsBV_hw0/w-d-xo.html
Excellent factual review. Run flat tires suck.
350h the only NX to buy.
They do. Once we’ve gotten some mileage out of them we’ll change them out for Michelin Cross Climates, I think.
@@joshjamescarsExcellent colour choice
Your RAV4 Vs NX comments would be interesting! 🤔
Sooo many people have asked so I will definitely try to do a video at some point soon!
@@joshjamescars Awesome! The only negatives I can think of on the RAV4 is road noise and maybe abit cramped.
in the hud, the caller is a higher priority than where you are going.
Nice car man
What do you think about using premium fuel vs regular fuel in the NS350h?
@@joshjamescars Josh, she was asking how far does your NX goes in terms of mileage and not 0-60 time. Can it drive like 400 miles on a tank etc.
@@joshjamescars thanks for the reply, Josh. Great info.
Anyway back to dreaming of my new Lexus for now
Again a good comprehensive & honest review, 👌
Ah I hope it gets built and arrives to you soon!! The leather will be fine as long as you are gentle with it and clean and condition it on a regular basis so that the leather retains its moisture. As for the collapsing, I don’t think you need to worry too much about that; Lexus and Toyota have great seat cushioning. The one thing I will say that not many people know about softex (toyota)/nuluxe (lexus) is that with softex, the textile is actually bonded to the seat foam, versus leather which just wraps around it because leather will expand and relax over time where softex won’t (another reason I love softex/nuluxe).
Great video. Very helpful.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
What camera are you using pls?
Cool video, Josh which one would You choose IF YOU Had the option? 2023 UX 250h or 2023 NX 350h? Boston MA.

THANK YOU, SIR
Then I'll Save some money and Start looking at a NX. I just Wanted YOU/a Professional opinion. Stay Safe, Steve 😎
You are most welcome! I’m not sure what the market is like there but it might not hurt to inquire with a few dealers now and see if it’s going to be a wait. If it is, then I might put down a deposit now to secure your place in line and save money in the meantime! Cheers!
thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
Wow, that's awesome! I had no idea about that. Thanks so much for sharing that info.
Do you use regular 87 gas, or premium? Sorry if i missed this in the video.
87 is perfectly fine in the NX350h. The NX350 turbo needs premium.
@@joshjamescars Thank you.
I chose 2024 Rav 4 limited hybrid over Nx350 hybrid. No regrets.
good analysis, thank you. good thing is as you mentioned, they can fix many of the negative points (by the way, very valid points) through a simple software update. cheers.
Thank you for watching! And yes! Here’s hoping they do.
@@joshjamescars you are awesome. your explanation makes a lot of sense and you saved me $10K. thank you very much.
I’m so glad! I’m actually working on a video about it because this is one of the most frequently asked questions I get! Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
What package did you purchase for the NX 350h?
Hello! I have the premium package and then the 14” screen, HUD, digital mirror, and one or two other things as options on top of that.

@@joshjamescarshow much was the car OTD? Mine was about 57k OTD for the exact car you have
Yes! It was exactly the same. $57 OTD.
Is this the same powertrain as the Rav4 hybrid? Or is there a lesser NX hybrid version?
It’s half the same-the 4-cylinder engine is shared with the Rav hybrid but the electric motors are larger than the Rav’s. It’s exactly the same powertrain as is in the new RX and Highlander hybrids. And no, here in the US there is only one self-charging hybrid, which is the 350h. There is a 450h plug-in hybrid above it, though.
how's the vertical space for tall people? I'm 6'2". Would my head touch the ceiling or the visor hinder my view? Thanks!
What's your opinion on the black interior ?
I personally don’t care for it because I think it looks boring. I think Lexus’ interiors look best when there’s contrasting color that really highlight the design of them and their colors are absolutely beautiful. If not red, palomino or the light beige/white color. Especially the NX, with black it kind of just looks like any other Toyota out there.
What do you think of the runflat tires?
Excellent review, I'm waiting for mine. How do you feel the cabin in comparison to the RAV4 Prime? Are pretty much the same in space?
But if interior space is a concern, I’d go and see one in person to make sure it’s going to work for you.
can you share what's the OTD price?
OTD price for me was around $57K. Maybe $57,500.
I have a 2016 4Runner that I will keep forever. My wife has a 2016 Volvo XC60 which she loves, but this is what is going to replace it.
This replaced a 2016 XC90 for me. You’ll love the Lexus. I had soooo many problems with my XC90, I couldn’t get rid of it fast enough.
I hope they can update that with software because id very much like the HUD thing to be fixed and it would be really nice if temperature did also sync with the driver profile.
how long have you waited to get this car and have you paid markup money?
My two issues with the Venza are:
Makes me wonder what quality leather is actually in the NX.
was hoping a review of the sound on the stock stereo was incoming - no one does this - missed a trick
@@joshjamescars much obliged fella
