    This is exactly what I need. I have been looking for a long long time for this. Thanks for posting. I had a pinion seal leaking, changed it, 1 month later it leaked again, changed it again, it leaked all the oil out and i got heavy pitting in my bearings. So I changed out my bearings after getting a press and a bunch of other tools. Still leaking. I know it has to be the yoke seal or adapter sleeve or what ever it is called here but I couldnt find anything at all about it until now. So thank you for this post man. ugh, I got a new yoke and all that good stuff and its all wrong. I didnt know until I pulled it all apart and put the new stuff in. ugh, long time now I have been dealing with this nonsense. there is an oil streak from my house to work all the way across the damn state. lol

      You're welcome sir! You have to always change the yoke sleeve out! 99% of the time the yoke sleeve is what damages the pinion seal.

      @@isolateddieselperformance3261 Its such good info. This problem has been going on for a while. I bought a new yoke because I couldnt find the yoke sleeve, I was calling it a yoke seal and every video i found brought up pinion seals. It has been very frustrating. The new yoke has the wrong size holes for the brackets that hold the u joint on so I have to take all that stuff back and try to find a sleeve. Are they called anything else other than yoke sleeve? I have a 2002 chevy astro 2wd 4.3l, I love it, but its been making a mess with all this oil leaking and costing a bunch in oil. Any info would be great. I just checked the website you mentioned but had no luck.

    thank you. I replaced my pinion seal but didn't have an adequate in/lb torque wrench so I just counted threads and the number of turns required to remove the nut. When I put the new nut on and eventually got a good in/lb torque wrench the reading was very inconsistent between 40-50 in/lbs. I bought a new nut and I'll install it today using my recorded threading data. Lord willing it'll be okay.

    Dude you ain’t gonna disturb that pinion. Impact nut off. Hammer yoke off. Dig seal out. Hammer new seal in. Hammer yoke on. Three ugga dugga impact tight yoke nut. Done. Never had an issue. It’s a front axle. It only has torque in 4x4. Your 1/2” impact literally will not change the crush on the crush sleeve in that axle so disturbing pinion depth and preload is near impossible

    • @isolateddieselperformance3261
      @isolateddieselperformance3261  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen guys trash a front axle by not following procedure. With front ring and pinion in motion at all times it dont take long to trash one and Impact guns can damage bearing and race.You must have some good luck. I don't have that kind of luck. Thanks for watching.

    I appreciate the video, was a huge help for replacing the seal on my 06 2500. I have everything back together and am in the process of tightening the nut to try and get the right rotational torque preload. The nut is just slightly (1/8 turn or so) tighter than before I removed it, and my preload is still the same and has not increased as I tighten the nut. Preload with brake calipers off was around 12 - 13 in lb to start. Should I be concerned with going much past the starting position of the nut to try and get that +5 in lb over starting torque?

    • @isolateddieselperformance3261
      @isolateddieselperformance3261  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably looks like your past your start position. Even if you count the turns you will still be off. Just tighten in very small increments and try to at least make it 3 inch pounds past your start reading. If you're still showing the same reading then you've not went far enough. Your torque wrench will tell you everything you need to know. Remember thats a crush sleeve behind the yoke and bearing and takes quite a bit torque to crush it more so you should be able to stay out of the danger zone as long as you tighten in very small increments and keep checking the preload.

  • @yogisadventurez
    @yogisadventurez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So would I have to take my wheels and etc off or could I just keep everything on? And can I just use your nut removal repetition method instead of the preload? (I know that it’s upon me, the viewer, if something wrong occurs not you)

    • @isolateddieselperformance3261
      @isolateddieselperformance3261  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are going to do the preload method (correct way) then yes take the wheels off. If you want to just count the turns on the nut then you can leave the truck on the ground but there's no way in hell I would do it that way. The correct way is the only way to do it without risk of damage. Your truck.....your decision brother!
