The way Basil goes from raving lunatic to 'ah helloooo Mr O'Reilly' is just class
And kind of terrifying too.
I didn't like watching the show back in the day, reminded me too much of my job! :'-(
😂
Indeed! Priceless. And like me at work when staff walk in whilst I'm mid berating a supplier on the phone.
That’s how pathetic n fake white people are
Basil choking the garden gnome always gets me the most lol
Mr Reynholm
I always laugh when he says "That golfing puff adder?!" Referring to Sybil 😂
"Oh good, no rare diseases or anything?"
Gets me every time. 🤣
"if you're not here in 20 minutes with my door, i will come over and insert a large garden gnome in you!
"You go and see if the roof's still on"
😂👏🏼
Manuel walking like a chimpanzee led out by the Major LOL!
Manuel saying “good morning” so innocently not knowing he’s gonna be beaten to death 😂😂
In his memoir Andrew sachs said that John Cleese was a genius but when he looked back on his time as Manuel he saw that Cleese had a resentment towards him which he could not figure out. The first season wasn't bad but as the second season went on the abuse became worse. The scene with the fire is a good example. Sachs wrote that Cleese seemed to enjoy that one. Prior to we are most amused sachs and Cleese had not seen each other in 30 years and sachs was very surprised to get the call.
@@markdaly1648 That's troubling. John Cleese is not altogether a nice man.
1:12 - "One moment please" - Gets me every time!
Same!
I never get enough of “WHAT. YOU. DO. NOW.”
NOW*
Lorenzo Escudero King oof my bad
@@Sclumsy lol no worries
Lorenzo Escudero King thx for letting me know
@@Sclumsy no problem
"A few holes in the floor, the odd door missing but nothing you can't be sued for."
The way Major walks Manuel like a chimp out the door is hilarious
Basil choking the gnome is the most hilarious scene in television history.
There is a whole gnome thread possible from that.
Gnomes used to very popular and festooned gardens in Essex and Kent. All shapes and sizes including ones carrying out obscene acts .Germany had a major gnome export industry
1:38 Apart from the set breaking up when Basil pushes Manuel's head into it repeatedly, notice how Manuel is kicking the bottom of the wall each time!
nicely spot!! great detail.
1:56 Always loved it when the major wondered where the door got to!
And the way Basil looks at him 😂
The Major is such a mood!
Basil: "Well, what you going to do now?"
Manuel: "Qué?"
Basil: "What...You... Do... Now?"
Manuel: I serve breakfast
@@masterfarr8265 let's see you then
“Where is door? Door is gone!”
1:29 that is class from Manuel
that is quite a large garden gnome
especially when inserted.
Basil , Manuel and the Major are three of the best in Fawlty Towers . Manuel doesn't have a clue and rebounds from any verbal or physical beating like a champion , meanwhile Basil and the Major are completely bonkers .
The greatest sitcom of all time.
Cleese in the 70s had a manic vibe look that made him funny before he even spoke. He doesn’t have that look anymore he’s a more normal looking dude now. 😂
THAT GOLFING PUFFADER
Fawlty Towers and The IT Crowd, 2 of my favourite British sitcoms😍
Sameee🤪
And Inbetweeners
What about Only Fools and Horses or Porridge ?
Oh man. The IT Crowd doesn't even come between this and The Royle Family. It's on a par with Mrs Browns Boys.....
Spaced, maybe. Porridge. Definitely.
This is how I feel at work... most days.
Can't never stop laughing whenever I see these clips.
It s not complete until Sybil comes back and confronts O Reilly !😆
Manuel :"is difficult"...🤣🤣🤣
and guys when you see connie start drawing basil, she is really trying not to laugh…tooooo
funnny!! ahhhh i just LOVE fawlty tower
I never get why John Cleese considers this the weakest episode of the show.
I would consider it one of the funniest. I suppose it's the standard he and Connie Booth set themselves when writing that made him think it wasn't up to par.
I always felt the American one was the weakest. I dunno. Something about Brit/US humour not meshing well
@@judyhopps9380 Yeah? Although the bits with the American himself aren't as good, the final scene where Basil has had enough and does the "Either they go or I go" is, I think, the perfect Fawlty Towers ending.
maybe because he slams manuel's head on the wall/missing door
@@judyhopps9380 I did not enjoy the American episode at all. It's always funnier when Basil is the one intimidating the guests, rather than the other way round. The exception to this rule being when Basil feels he has something to lose, such as the health inspector episode.
But having a rude American oaf yelling at Basil and threatening to beat him up wasn't enjoyable to watch. It made me feel bad for Basil, which is not what you're supposed to feel for the character at all.
The Major rocks! He doesn't even realise that Basil is heating up Manuel!
Heating up Manuel ? Don't you mean "Beating" up Manuel ?
Well yes I do mean 'beating up!' My apologies for pressing the 'h' which is just above the 'b' on my phone's small keypad! Thanks for correcting me on the mistake of the century!
@@georgejacob3162 You're welcome.
You ponce in here looking for something to complain about! Well I'm trying to run a hotel here! Don't you know how difficult that is? Have you not thought about that? I mean pointing out that someone typed 'heating' instead of 'beating'. Don't you know that this is how nazi Germany started?
@@georgejacob3162 Nice one.
"Good morning, Major. I'm so sorry, the dining room door seems to have disappeared."
Bound to turn up
"That golfing puffadder."
It's one of the greats .
when he trips behind the reception bar OMGDDDD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah be jasus if it isn't Mr Fawlty🤝💚
I can remember the actor who played O'Reilly as the waiter in Robin's Nest.
David Kelly. He also played Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
He was also in that one about the dodgy builders, Cowboys.
He died recently
@@eoinh1 That is sad news indeed.
@Red Boah Sutherland you read it in a boooook
0:37 impending doom
Classic. Actually funnier than 80 percent of the monty python tv show
100 percent more funnier than todays TV TBH
Apart from ghosts not much comedy
Manuel is so funny :)
i agree i laugh every time his face goes right into the wall hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Can't Fawlt this Channel. ❤ 'em all. (That Gnome LOL)
1:33 when Basil says "ah hah" 😂
Manuels face at 1:44 always kills me
Sadly David Kelly who played O’Reilly died in 2013, Andrew Sachs who played Manuel died in 2016.
“Don’t worry, it’s bound to turn up” 😂
garden gnome violence 😂
They always say that there was no laughter in the first episdoes but i do hear laughter lol
That golfing puff adder?
Golfing venomous snake
Door is gone???
A-ha!
Series 1 in 1975. Classic sitcom ☺️
"One moment please ..."
Manuel kicks the wall to seem his heads hitting it
“One moment please”
Did anyone else see that room 13 keys are hanging on room 15 hook behind Basil while he was talking to O'Reilly?
Because everything else about the hotel is perfect 😂
Oh I do beg your pardon, Basil Fawlty Fawlty. Do you remember? The poor sod you do jobs for. Cleese's sarcasm is second to none.
Dry as a martini.
"Where is door?"
The best situation comedy of all time, Basil Fawlty is the epitome of dealing with 'hospitality' they drive you indsane!!😂
I wonder who has it worse, Manuel or Baldrick from Blackadder.
Choking the gnome. Omg. Forever etched in British comedy history.
CYE Larry David is a Basil-type figure: Often right, often misunderstood, often treated badly, but gets in trouble with his unsubtle drive for justice.
Classic!!!!
I like the polite and firm way he communicates his anger over the phone.
I loved Manuel when he said “hello men, you’re men with Orelly?”
The entrance
"one moment please" i died
The scary door
where is door?
Poor Basil seems rather pissed with that missing door.
1:39 Manuel kicks the wall to make the noise haha nice
Wayne😊😊😊😊
A puff adder is a venemous snake lol.
Polly beuatifull lady.
Door iz gone! 😂
The DIY guy actually came back and he fitted a car door as the restaurant door it was incredibly faulty
Where is door?.. Ahahh!.. Door is gone... *Click*... Fawlty: Where? ummm... *BANG! BANG!*
He should have called Orally
Love Sybil beating the Irish builder.😂
John Cleese was genius in that show.
1:39
“Door was here.”
Well let’s make a new one.
2:22 if he could only be that assertive with Sybil he'd have a different marriage
I reckon Basil gives Manuel the beatings that he would rather give the dragon.
wen has any 3 numbers worked in the UK unless it was 999?
1:28
Where is door? Ah ha. Door is gone. The door gone was here. Where er here? Here? Here?
😂😂😂😂😂
Where is door ? Ha ha…
at 1:40 the "door" moves a bit
Yeah becuase it´s most likely a piece of plywood or something, so that Maneul doesn´t get injured.
1:22 What...You... Do... Now?
what - you - do - now?
And this comedy in today's society of it was fresh wouldn't and I mean wouldn't be on TV at all after 1 episode
I know! People today are forgetting what comedy is meant to be then just jokes.
ITS 18:40 HOURS
I'd forgotten Joe Biden had a cameo as a resident in Fawlty Towers
Reminds me of Australian follies see saw political crimes
Thats true
What's hilarious is that his ex wife
Why is that hilarious?
That joke on Scrubs now makes so much sense now.
