One of the things this conflict has highlighted, is that most people don’t care what took place before they were born. It’s why, when Putin talks about pre-1991 justifications for Crimea, or Ukraine, he’s automatically dismissed…90% of those fighting Russia were born after. Same with Germany, as 1945 was 80 years ago. Governments often appreciate history, but individuals are only concerned about how something might affect their life, especially those who are relatively comfortable.

Just like the US will not allow China or Russia to set up military bases in Mexico who would be getting liberated from the cartels and their drugs the next day with the help of the US army, nor will the other superpowers allow the US to do that (e.g. Ukraine, Taiwan). It's the US who is creating these wars by encroaching on them. Those states should be militarily neutral, just as Mexico is forced to be by the US. As a German let me tell you, that this "peace demonstration" was announed and "hyped" for several months. When it happened they were roughly 10k people there. I dont know, why VICE didnt do that, but the driving figures behind those demonstration are Sahra Wagenknecht (Die Linke ((The Left)) and Alice Schwarzer, which was a huge womens rights activist in the 70s and now is a Terf. Both of these wrote a "peace-manifest" to the government which was signed by 750k people, Germany has roughly 80 mil people. It declares to stop the delivery of weapons to Ukraine and demands peace talks between "the west" and Russia. Lets get to the problem here: the conflict between Ukraine and Russia is much older than the resulting conflict after Russia did a full scale invasion. Lets just mention the annexion of crimea in 2014, where the country was in huge turmoil and dealing with a corrupt president, basically Ukraine wanted to be in the European Union, but Janukowytsch didnt, altough it was his promise to do so if he would be elected as president (read Maidan Demonstration to get more info) or the "friendship" contract made in the 90s between Russia and Ukraine, where Russia respects the sovereignty of Ukraine, in exchange Ukraine had to hand over the remaining nuclear bombs, which were stored in there at the time of the USSR. To put it simply there has been A LOT of trying from the west to get peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but Putin especially was never willing to give in just a slight bit, because he is stern in his believes and doesnt budge, his propaganda wouldnt even allow it. Finally it is my conception, that those peace protesters are not well informed on the matter and just want to have their better times back, before the war was happening, i.e. getting cheap gas from Russia and not having to deal with inflation, which is roughly 9% and will slowly decline now. Also most of these people use Russian propaganda, especially Sahra Wagenknecht, who was called out by the Russian journalist Marina Wladimirowna Owsjannikowa (she held the "no war" poster in the background of the news broadcast in Russia), she said roughly translated "you speak as you were paid by the Russian Federation", but the followers of Sahra Wagenknecht are not interested in that. To sum it up, this movement isnt huge in Germany and is littered with far right, far left and poorly informed "pacifists", who cant deal with a fairly low inflation + moderate gas prices and are scared about refugees, because they are "different"... 161 and Slava Ukraini

thanks! Russian interference in Ukraine in recent history goes deeper than that too, After the Orange revolution Russia basically began it's anti-Ukraine campaign, and they spent a LOT of resources in getting Yanukovich elected and then strong armed him to cancel the EU association agreement last minute - Ukraine is an obsession for Putin since the early years of his presidency.
It is the truth that any ceasefire will just be a pause before Russia can invade again - the only peace conditions are 1. the complete destruction and subjugation of Ukraine (which will be followed by harassment and invasion of the next country ) or 2. Russian war crimes tribunals, reperations, de-nazification of Russia - basically forcing russia off the imperialist path

Putin is the most civilized of all Western leaders. Have you seen Brandon raving at the State of the Union about Xi? Compare that to Putin's SOTU a few weeks ago and the difference is night and day, he's measured and coherent, never once raising his voice or attacking any individual by name. Putin tried to negotiate so many times before the Feb 2022 invasion but was double crossed by the West, the Minsk 1 and 2 agreements were designed to ensure lasting peace and instead the signatories to the accords Germany and France never forced Ukraine to implement it, instead Merkel and Hollande have publicly stated it was all a sham to buy time to train and arm Ukraine to NATO standards with the eventual goal of retaking Crimea and the Donbas. Even before the Feb invasion he tried one last attempt at negotiations with the West and was completely ignored, he met Brandon in 2021 and go him to agree to implement the Minsk agreements which he said he would but did nothing about. This great power hungry dictator you're talking about with his goals of conquering Europe and the whole world didn't even have the troops to take on Ukraine at the start of the Feb invasion, it was shock and awe with gloves on very much unlike NATO's indiscriminatory bombing of Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Libya. He did not attack civilian or political administration infrastructure and was going exclusively after military installations in Ukraine to get them to peace negotiations, which they did in late March. The negotiations taking place in Turkey was then scuttled by Boris the Clown on orders of his American masters.

How do you think it happened that for eight years the European media were talking about anything but how the people of eastern Ukraine suffer because they do not agree with the Nazi and anti-Russian agenda of Ukraine? Tell me, if you lived next door to Cinderella's stepmother, to whose house Cinderella's grandfather would come and present her with a bill for Cinderella's work for many years and for the traces of her beatings on Cinderella's body, would it be very easy for you to look into his eyes? In other words, a very low number of deaths for an 8 year war, considering the 100's of 1000's killed in the last year alone.

The problem with pacifism is that while you may be right to want an end to violence, what becomes normal is not who is right but who is willing to fight for their beliefs. If you believe in equality in fairness then you have to be willing to defend that belief. The other problem is the illusion of separation. There is no such thing as "over there." Every problem you ignore has an extremely real chance of becoming your new reality if you ignore it or refuse to take action because doing so makes you uncomfortable.

For many years, Russia has been the cause of rapid economic growth for Germany due to cheap energy resources. Until the end of the offensive near Kiev, the Germans believed that Russia would defeat Ukraine, but reality verified :)
Now they have a huge problem because they are affected by the energy crisis, and a German citizen is losing money - this was not the case before.
Ukraine is not fighting for a 5-year peace. They fight to destroy Russia's imperialist tendencies for decades. If we agree to peace on Russian terms - Putin will come back in the next 5 years with a better army, better tactics and even more people will die than now. Instead of protesting for a poor peace - let's support Ukraine in the fight against the terrorist.
History will tell you the truth :)

How do you begin 'talking' to someone with a gun in your face with those demands? Do you band up and fight or simply cower and submit to slavery and death?" Sometimes, you can't reason with tyrants. @@Nancy-nc4sw Thank you for your comment Nancy, my school years were much later, but being from former Soviet bloc and with history of being N*zi satellite, it has been obvious to me since childhood. Unfortunately, I was (and you were too) proven right... Very sad that we as a humanity are so slow to learn from our own mistakes.. and that seems to be happening only when hard pressed... I can only hope the young people of today will do better! All the best to you and your loved ones Nancy :)
