Under all the aggravating bugs and shoddy design, Baldo: The Guardian Owls is a vast action-adventure RPG filled with puzzles and treasures to find. If you stick with it long enough, you can have some genuine fun exploring this Ghibli-style world and its simple story, but it hardly pays off by the very end. The vast sea of technical issues and unfair enemies you need to pass through with little or no direction before you get there make it easy to see a lot of people quitting Baldo before they've given it anywhere near that long.

Played it on Apple Arcade and it’s just as buggy and inconsistent as this review mentioned. It’s a horrendous disappointment.

It’s a real shame because the game has the bones of something really special but the technical issues of the game are so numerous that it’s impossible to look past.
Cyberpunk 2077 was and still a technical mess but they gave it a 10/10 lmao.
Just a thought, but have you ever thought of doing an IGN Re-Plays where you go back and replay games a year later to see what patches and fixes, changes have been made instead of the One and Done approach. 🤔😉

I'd ask IGN to review this game again as it went through a bunch of updates and the game is much better now
updated now on Nintendo Switch and runs perfectly

@@Klash120 My favorite game ever, Hollow Knight was made by only 4 people, so the amount of people is not an excuse for a mediocre game and for further proof, look at Cyberpunk 2077, which was made by a team of over 5 thousand people and see how that one turned out...

@@Klash120 yes it was made by two people, but those two people could have at least played their game’s main story once before releasing it. The lever glitch that affected everyone on every system made it clear that they didn’t even play their own game because it was impossible to do so.
It was very obvious from the trailers how overly aspirational this dev team was with Baldo. Hoping they scope appropriately for a second outing.

TL; DW, Baldo is how not to make a Zelda game.
But, hopefully the devs take the feedback and genuine criticism to heart if it's possible to greenlight a sequel.

This is a two person team that worked on this 15 years so its unlikely there will be a patch anytime soon or a sequel ever. Its ashame still the game turned out like it did.

They teased this for years, and pushed back the release so many times. It's a shame that it's almost unplayable from the sounds of it.

They can still save it with balance patches but thats about it. Very cute though!
Looks like the worst issue could have been solved with a simple difficulty setting that makes you not die constantly. It might still be clunky but at least more people could tolerate playing through the story without all those game overs and restarts.

Falcom already made ys memories of celeceta, ys 7, ys 8, ys 9, tokyo xanadu, xanadu next all have better graphics than this game.

To be fair they got this one right.
Its like they forgot to remove the placeholder UI and combat. art, story, and dialogue is done but they forgot to make the actual game
Story and dialogue fall very much into the placeholder basket too. Dialogue is stilted and uninteractive with massive dialogues. Story is meh and has no pacing, with nothing to engage you about it from the start. So it has art going for it, kinda, and that's it.
A fun one to poke fun at with friends, though, or do a drinking game to re number of deaths/glitches

This game has been fixed with patches, maps and 2 new DLC. The game is great and one of my favorite game

Nope, the first dungeon is straight pain to play

How about Spiritfarer, Rime, Breath of the Wild, and Ni No Kuni 1 & 2? All of these are either massively inspired by Ghibli or use feature actual art by Studio Ghibli. And those are just a few of the Ghibli-inspired games of the last few years. I'd say it's quite common and definitely not rare at all.

Sick of Publisher's pushing out unfinished game's, such a discredit to both the Consumer and the Devs.
MergeGames did this recently with Monster Harvest, it's an incredible game but it released with game breaking bug's. Now I'm not saying don't support Monster Harvest, as it definitely deserves the support. Just make sure unless you're on PC you wait for the latest patch to be approved.
