I agree it was a good video and I too appreciate you sharing it with everyone, but what I like even more perhaps and can appreciate as well is how you have interacted with the viewers and your response to their comments weather it be a question or just a comment they left you’ve made it a point to respond to them and that’s something to be said because it goes beyond the time you’ve already taken to create and post this informative video in the first place. I know you spent a lot longer than the 9 min and 14 seconds shown in the timeline to create such a video for us and if it wasn’t for people like you many of us would still be in the dark on this machine or anything else we may have turned to youtube for seeking knowledge and explanation. I admire your dedication and wish I could do the same. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thanks for the comment. I spend a lot of time researching and watching videos for various projects. When I found this key cutting/duplicator machine it was almost a mystery as to how it worked. Nobody had really made any videos on it, or how to set it up, or if it would cut older standard type keys. I think it is at a decent price, though it has gone up since I purchased it, and is still affordable for the average person who wants to get into a hobby.

Nice video! I have one of these machines I bought years ago and never really used. Also I’ve seen comments about why a lot of locksmiths won’t cut customer provided keys and say they will mess up their machines - there is some truth to this - some of the keyblanks you buy online are made of different metals (cheaper manufacturing I suppose) and they can chew up milling bits on key machines. Some of these bits can be pricey to replace - a way to check is to check a key with a magnet (most keyblanks are usually made of brass so they are not magnetic). If it sticks it’s likely to damage the cutter. Now another thing is I don’t cut customer provided keys mainly for these reasons: Often customer provided keys don’t always work (they won’t program wrong part #/cheap defective junk). There’s always a chance that a key gets cut wrong by mistake and that’s a problem. Also if we cut a customer provided key and it doesn’t program customers often want to blame the locksmith and swear there is nothing wrong with their key. Lastly - being purely mobile we don’t make enough money off cutting and programming customer provided keys plain and simple. It’s like bringing your own hamburger meat into McDonald’s and asking them to cook you a burger! Now of course if you want to buy a machine online and all the stuff to do it yourself as a lot of people have done on here all the power to ya! I choose to not do it because I don’t want to deal with the headache that often results from these types of service requests.
Great video i also hade simmilar situation where the key was too small to hold by the vice so i bought Key Clamping Fixture for specific key with that I was able to cut and able to make the perfect key just by cutting it once.
Get the HU101 key fixture, easier and more accurate then doing it that way with a paper spacer. Only $17 on eBay for a set of the key fixtures for the machine to make the H94/HU101 style Ford keys.
How does this type of machine work with a normal (non-"laser") key profile like a house key? Do you use a different key block or something so it can cut all the way through the key? Or do you need a whole nother machine for those?
I've cut house keys with this. It is a little tricky as the cutting bit likes to jump off the side. I set the key cutting side up, flat side down. After cutting I take a small file to remove the burrs on the edges.
I have a 2020 Chevy Sonic. I have a spare key that is only to open the driver door. The ignition is a push button start and the key has already been programmed for that. Do I still need some kind of additional programming for the key so that it works on the door lock? Thx.
I don't quite understand the question. If you have the backup key for the door already, then you are done for making a backup. The key fob needs to be the same frequency as your car so the buttons on it work. Then you have to program the fob. The backup key is only for opening the door if your battery dies, or in some cases, you need it to start the programming of a new key fob.

I am slowly getting the tooling together to start a mobile car lockout and key making service. I will have to get the reprogramming computer also.
Did the same then went on to programming the key and remotes xhorse vvd1 max works OK easy to use but still not mastered the remotes side but the cars I have Peugeot and Citroën are not that easy to do made the remotes but will not connect to the car but good video

I'm intrigued, but confused as to the "laser" part of it. Why is it called laser cutting? I need a Toyota key cut. FOB is dealer programmed already. This FOB is the backup unit to the one that came with the car. The original key has cuts on both sides of the key. Would this be possible with this type of machine? Not opposed to getting a new hobby but makes me wonder where I would get a replacement blank if I screwed the one up that came with the FOB.

The model number is 368A. There are a few manufacturers that make these. As for the bits, there are not much difference between them. I use the smallest one I could on standard keys so they can get in the deep cuts. On side cut keys I'll use the largest one that will fit the cut. You just need to make sure the guide and cutting bit are the same size.
Hello I need help , so I lost my 2004 Mini Cooper keys , I have no keys to make a copy now . My question is I don’t want to pay the dealer ship $400 for a key so I bought one from eBay and since the car has bad transmission I just need the key to lock and lock the doors I know it’s easy to sync the key remote but what is my option of cutting the key if there is no key to make a copy on , is there a way to find my car key code somewhere so I take the code to the locksmith to cut my eBay key or I have to take the lock cylinder out and take it to to the locksmith ? Or any other options please ?

Just got that exact key. After programming it, the remote works great! But I took it to Home Depot and they won't cut a key that isn't purchased there.. GREEDY! GREEDY! But it's no wonder! Home Depot sells their FOBs with built in key for $100
Exactly why I bought this key cutting machine. No business I could find would cut a key I brought them. There's no profit in it for them, hence requiring you to buy a $100 key that you can find for $20 online.

Lot of time spent, locksmith might be a better way to go. I had that machine. Sold it off and got a used Silca Matrix, problems solved. No more non working fresh cut blades.

Yes, it came with a couple. I bought a larger set online in case I broke any. I chipped a bit on one of my first ones going to fast so it only has 3 edges instead of 4 now.
I have an Autel IM508 key programmer, though you can also program these Ford keys with free Forscan software for a windows PC that I did in another video.
I called Ace yesterday and they said they do but you can't bring your own key and it's $189 cut and programmed. I just want the cut and going to use FORscan to program it

Of course, I think it's just hoakum to get me to buy his key blank, which was probably purchased from the same internet source as mine.

Such person had to not only know how to set up machines for precision cutting and milling. (S)he also had to know how various metals would 'behave' under high speed, high precision manufacturing.
LAZER CUT,LASERCUT, Sidewinder and other terms are just euphemisms. The are no CO2 or Fiber lasers involved.There usually are CNC machines, to cut to code, even when original key is trashed

So buy a machine, sort out all kinds of problems, takes hours to get it to work.... and that is somehow saving you money? I guess if you are self-employed or supported by your parents then you can have the time to do all that BS. But for most people time IS money, I know a locksmith will come over to my house cut and program the key and it takes 5 minutes of my time. I can sell a lot of product in the 3-4 hours to get a key machine to work personally I'd be losing money doing it the way this guy is.
It takes a couple minutes to cut a key. Time is money, and so is paying someone to come to the car or drive to a locksmith. If you want to pay someone, by all means do it.

@@rmsg7504 I have several other videos where I made keys and recorded cutting the key if you wanted to see it being cut. The machine isn't several hundred, and it only takes a couple minutes to duplicate a key.
Most locksmiths would’ve cut those keys for $30-$40 each. You bought the cheapest key cutting machine. Good luck getting things working and spending more money
It's worked fine for the last few years of occasional use. It doesn't come with the specific adapters for different types of keys, so you can buy them or make spacers like I did.
Don't want to take it to a locksmith? They charge quite a bit? professional locksmiths charge for the expertise and experience. If you want it done right, get an experienced professional. Some things, yeah you can do by watching TH-cam. Others, it's worth the cost in the long run to pay an experienced pro. Watching you fumbling around with what looks like a toy? advise, go find a real locksmith. Just my cents...

I get the general sentiment, but a lot of times they charge 5-10x more for the blank, but they are mobile AND cheaper than a dealer so I deal with it.

Thanks for the tip about tightening that internal bolt. Mine was loose.
The bolt being loose helps with alignment on certain keys, but most keys I make it causes more problems than it helps.

Good suggestion. I don't use this enough to start buying key adapters, but if I did, that one would work significantly better!
Have same machine but I clamp before the shoulders using them to align the keys or 'how far back to put them'.
That would work too. It really depends on the type of key being cut. If I used it more I would buy a set of blank holders specific to a manufacturer.

You can buy just the blades that goes in those flip out style fobs rather than buying the whole thing all over again.

Previously I have taken the door lock cylinder out and brought it to a locksmith to cut a key. Could also have them go to the vehicle for more.
If its titled in you name goto dealer and have them make you a vin matched key

You could of got a couple of cheap feeler gauges for a more accurate spacer than the paper but it works so that's all that matters

I've had very few problems with this. I don't cut enough keys to justify the cost of the Matrix. It's an excellent machine though.

Cut their own keys ain't that the way it is though. You got to make some money. Somehow they did everything they wouldn't have a business but I understand what you're talking about. That's why I recommend people that ask me and tell him to go a certain place

So buy a machine, sort out all kinds of problems, takes hours to get it to work.... and that is somehow saving you money? I guess if you are self-employed or supported by your parents then you can have the time to do all that BS. But for most people time IS money, I know a locksmith will come over to my house cut and program the key and it takes 5 minutes of my time. I can sell a lot of product in the 3-4 hours to get a key machine to work personally I'd be losing money doing it the way this guy is.
It takes a couple minutes to cut a key. Time is money, and so is paying someone to come to the car or drive to a locksmith. If you want to pay someone, by all means do it.

I don't see how that saves me anything. Plus, your not even showing the process on video. How do I know you even really cut that key?? You don't show the whole process. You just made the video for monetization, there is no showing the actual process you just describe it with words. Anyone who watches this video and has half a brain can see you don't show any of the work to make the machine function or the actual key cutting. How do we know you cut it?
@@rmsg7504 I have several other videos where I made keys and recorded cutting the key if you wanted to see it being cut. The machine isn't several hundred, and it only takes a couple minutes to duplicate a key.

Most locksmiths would’ve cut those keys for $30-$40 each. You bought the cheapest key cutting machine. Good luck getting things working and spending more money
I've used this machine well over a dozen times without problem or spending more money. It's easily paid for itself several times.
Man the locksmith wanted to charge me $80 just to copy/cut my dummy laser key. Robbery, what happened to the $5-10 to copy a key guys.

After so much modifications it seems that machine is a piece of crap...
It's worked fine for the last few years of occasional use. It doesn't come with the specific adapters for different types of keys, so you can buy them or make spacers like I did.
Why pay a locksmith because there's alot of people who'll screw up eventually have no one to blame it upon (jk)
Well that's true. I messed up one key on a VW cutting too deep, so it's definitely possible. Key still worked, but looked funny.

Don't want to take it to a locksmith? They charge quite a bit? professional locksmiths charge for the expertise and experience. If you want it done right, get an experienced professional. Some things, yeah you can do by watching TH-cam. Others, it's worth the cost in the long run to pay an experienced pro. Watching you fumbling around with what looks like a toy? advise, go find a real locksmith. Just my cents...
Thanks for your cents. This probably isn't for you. Making your own key for 1/10 the cost of a locksmith saving hundreds may be worth it to others though.

You don't need an expensive/flashy key cutter to make copies. It's a simple design that works.
