TAWAG NG TANGHALAN is the hardest Filipino singing competition as compared to The Voice, X-Factor, The Clash and Idol Philippines. You need to win your daily rounds before qualifying to the quarterfinals, semifinals and grandfinals. You need to win all rounds and then you have to sing all week long on the grand finals week. Plus the Gong factor and the set of judges are changing daily/weekly. You have to have endurance to sing or else you'll be out the next day.
On the new season, they have Battle of Versions which test the versatility of the contenders. Shoutout to Noven, Janine, Elaine, JM and Raven for winning TNT 🥳🎊🎉

TO BE HONEST, Tawang Ng Tanghalan sa It's Showtime is one of the best singing competition here in PH. It's very popular. Tho, it's just a segment of a show but it literally wipes out other singing contest in all T.V. networks.

Yes they are all high caliber, but judges use to check their versatility. Most of contestants in this kind of shows can sing high notes (ballad songs) the question is, can they rap? Can they sing R&B? Can they sing it in their own arrangement? How good are they in singing different genre? If you are an all around then you will surely win. That’s how it works in the Philippines

  • @geraldinedelacruz6264

What to do to win in TNT: you have to be consistent, technically on point, convey emotions, better song arrangement than your opponents and a lot of luck! 😁

This is the reason why Filipino's like zack tabudlo, moira dela torre, adie style its just calming because if we watch in singing contest the contestants just go crazy most of them hitting high notes and not a surprise anymore.

Singing competition in the Philippines is not all about how high your voice is.
It's all about how you communicate to the audience and make them feel the song you sang.
    +Runs
    +High note
    +Audience impact
    +Pronunciation
    +Correct lyrics
    Etc.
And that's the reason why there's too many Filipino joining international competition instead of joining Philippines singing competition.
It's to hard winning singing competition here

You could be stopped in the middle of singing if you make 3 mistakes. And you don't win just by 1 round you could be a day winner but in order to be in semi finals you have to win several times and defend your position first.

    - TNT is on It's Showtime which is a noontime variety shows that airs Mon-Sat. Meaning TNT has three contestants each day.
    - The panel of judges evaluate them based on the judging criteria.
    - It's only in the Semis and Grand Finals that the crowd has 50% part in the voting.

I just love how you appreciate not just how great these talents are to listen to but appreciating them from a technically musical standpoint. Growing up in the Philippines, the 80’s power vocals have been the influence and Filipino singers mimic them, having usually no formal training whatsoever.
I guess you can say the Filipino crowd as an audience is tough because they’re used to this caliber of singing. Like this is “normal” and just par for the course in Philippine music. Singing in malls, inside classrooms, at friends’ homes, practically anywhere isn’t unusual at all.
Because of your reviews I’ve come to appreciate our talent as a people more and I’ve truly come to see them in such a revered light. So thank you for that.

Fyi, Tawag ng tanghalan which literally means Call of the Stage has a different format from other singing contests. In this show, the daily winner gets to challenge the defending winner. Defending champions who achieve a 5 time winning streak get to advance in the semi-finalists category.
This show started in 1953 as radio show and then became television show. Through the years, there were some reiterations and revisions, but the basic format remains. It was responsible for discovering some of our great Filipino singers.

The Quality of singers in this show is beyond any song competitions in the country. Imagine if you made 3 mistakes you'll be gonged and it's over, that's why only the best of the best singers will be able to survive and win on this show. Janine Berdin and Ellaine Duran are the best examples even those who didn't won like John Mark Saga and moreee were really a monster in singing.

Most Filipinos do not know the technicalities, but the standard of belting here are the 80s and 90s diva like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey or 00s Beyonce. Locally, it is Regine Velasquez . We do have ears for high notes though not all can hit those. And it is true at least one of the relatives can belt, thus, Efra is correct that we use that relative for comparison.
Just love how you have embraced even the language. Sisiw is also the word used to call Ken Suson's fans.
Looking forward to your next reaction.

When I was a kid (I am now 76 years old) the only singing show on TV was Tawag ng Tanghalan and there were, consequently, very popular singers that came out as Champions of this show, to name some: Deomedes Maturan (the Perry Como of the Philippines), Ruben Tagalog, Novo Bono, Ric Manrique, I think Sylvia LaTorre was a champion, too, and many others. The show was first aired over the radio, because there was no television yet. Then it was televised during the advent of TV. Although the winners of the show became popular, their popularity was limited only within the country. No social media was yet invented then, no You Tube website. It is different now: there are numerous singing shows, and you, probably, know them. The invention of KARAOKE gave the contestants the edge over the old singers, and TV shows and You Tube gave them the formats to show their talents, hence they are, probably, better singers. I don't know if these old singers I mentioned have their songs recorded for You Tube consumption.

For contestant to be the winner, it will be a combination of judges scores and viewers vote for the grand finals. It's been the trend for singing contests here in the Philippines. During the daily round, there are times that judges argue who should get to win as contenders really are amazing singers. That's why they came up with Resbak to give chance to those amazing contestants to still get to fight to grand finals. 😉

In Tawag Nang Tanghalan you've got to protect your throne atleast 5 times before you become a semi finalist, everyday the defending champion faces a different kind of singer with different Genre, tonal and whatever. When you become semi finalist you have to compete for a quarterly finals where all of the winners in the specific quarter compete to get a slot for the grand finals, every quarter there's 2 winners that will go further for grand finals the competition continues whole year round until they reached 10-12 total grand finalists, the grand finals is week long everyday 1 contestant will go home with the lowest score then final 5 will compete for the grand finale . This singing competition is insane.

Efra since you began to love the word Sisiw, that word is also used as a filipino expression for Piece of Cake. Example is power belting in Idol Philippines is Sisiw to contestants in it.

I always think alot of filipinos have a high standards of judging when it comes to singing, i don't know why but i felt like i don't want to compete there.

    2. Daily champs will have to defend their title for 7 days to qualify for the weekly champ.
    3. weekely champs, will be pitted against each other.
    4. losers bracket will sometimes have a chance to fight for the wildcard spot.
4.5. wildcard will be have a chance for the semi finals.
    5. grand champ will be the last.
    6. there had been occasions wherein grand champs as pitted against each other for the ultimate champ title.
so yeah, I'll just leave it to you guys to imagine how many talented individuals you need to face. for comparison, you can use regine Velasquez as reference for each individual you have to face.. 😅

If you reach that level in TNT, the best way to win is to build your character and have an impact in social media, because everyone there has the talent, you have to at least have the advantage against your opponent not just your talent.

TAWAG NG TANGHALAN was ORIGINALLY a TALENT SHOW in a RADIO STATION in MANILA that started in 1953 then aired later on in TV. This one is a REVIVAL of the program as just one segment in a TV SHOW called SHOWTIME!!

Efra was spot on. Sorry Waleska Technical Understanding isn’t as common as you think. Only in the advent of TH-cam reactions had this info come to the masses. Having said that there are specific crowds in the Philippines who are well versed. There’s a certain crowd who knows about a type of karaoke machine that has the function to show you the motes and where you’re voice is relative to the notes of the song.
