My parents weren't particularly concerned about this. But I have 9 sets of aunts and uncles and believe me, when I address them without the po and opo? I'd be sent to sit on top of the table whilst watching my cousins play. When I got older, I realized why it was so important. It's jarring to the senses when a child doesn't use the terms. It's very impolite. It just doesn't apply to children, too. My goddaughter is 37 and she still uses them with me.
