Love Jung's work. Many people refuse to acknowledge they have a shadow, let alone do the work to integrate it. The unchecked subconscious manifests all kinds of projections into the world. Exhausting.
These have been really helpful and insightful. Stumbled across your channel via the algorithm. Definitely helped me put together a couple of missing pieces I think. I guess we'll see in six months or so when the next project is complete!
Once again, thanks so much for this. Because you're so incredibely open and sharing about the details of your practice this really makes me wonder, do others also notice a seemingly intentious mystery surrounding artists their personal practice? Espescially when it comes down to the nitty gritty of actually sitting down and making the work. I have spoken to alot of people about this and in certain artistic circles it seems to be atleast partly because people are afraid of giving away "the goods" so to speak. Howevermuch I think this creates a toxic culture of gimmicky work and a hostile art scene, I am sure there are other reasons for it. Maybe the mystery surrounding the work can transform it into something more? (think 2001 Space oddyssey?) Maybe a practice must be protected from external forces when creating? Just some thoughts. Anyone else got some opinions about this?
Do you use Ableton? I feel like I recognize some of the percussion sounds. This is a pattern of mine, I have a question, pause the video, and ask it even though you likely answer it later. But I am curious what you mean by systematic review, my first thought is looking at my entire body of work. I don't know if I can even do that because it's so scattered. So it must be something else. I sometimes worry I stray too far into the abstract. What is that program you use to bracket your thoughts? How do you define a central figure of the art when it's only colors? Would the figure be color itself or texture? I guess eyes feature prominetly, I figure it's only because it's a relatively simple graphic thing I can draw. I guess I just need to chase the rabbit. One thing I've always loved about Rothko is the stories surround the work, like people talking about going to the Chapel and crying from witnessing it. Something resonates so deeply with people it brings them to ecstacy or whatever you'd call it. "Art is thinking made manifest in the materials" love this. I think my practice includes all of the things I do, video, photos, music, painting, drawing, poetry (text/word) and if I let one slip out there is something missing. but this feels like a holy balance to me. all of them informing on one another. I love how you bring up architypes too, especially one's of the American psyche so tied in to wilderness and ruggedness and stick to it evness. I feel confronted by the unknowing and unknowable universe so I am drawn to not knowing or not making sense through complete abstraction to simple colors made complex. Hey hey.... No Ableton. For most of the stuff on TH-cam (as ridiculous) as this sounds a bunch of iPad apps. I use a KILLER program called thoughtsX it's available for iOS, Mac and windows it's like 25 bucks and is amazing. support the DEV and buy it! - more on the other issues soon.
Hey Brandon. I made another video that discussed the 5 categories of aesthetic philosophy. They are important not for some academic bullshit reasons but simply because they ask a very powerful set of questions. what is art and what function does it serve? It's really helpful to think about these questions. "Fire-P" is an acronym just to remember what those categories are: Formalism, Instrumentalism, Realism, Expressionism and Post-modern critique.
@@brandongorin7978 I guess I would define stupidity as action that fails to serveits intended function. But defenitions are not rigid and I think you were correct the first time. Its an emotional word. Just feel what it means. I think people too often forget that everyday language is art too.

I find it personally exhausting as well. In other words coming to grips with the un-grokable components of my own psyche is hard work
very interesting! not an artist, but a motherboard designer, very nice insights
Thank you very much!

Thank you for your work elliot, its great, and helpful

Also what does Fire-p stand for?

@@StudioPractice1 thank you.
@@StudioPractice1 what's the name of the video.
Brandon - LOLz… I should know… I’ll try to figure it out and hit you back
In this scenario what do you mean by stupidity I understand it emotionally but I can’t describe it diagnostically. Can you help?
Difficult question, would love to know aswell
I dont know if you were joking with this question but it made me laugh. trying to understand stupidity "diagnostically" lol
@@444-w8k that’s cool. What do you think it is?
