I feel like we need a Broadway revival of The Sound of Music -there actually hasn't been too many revivals of this show-you can count them on one hand-compared to some of the other R&H shows-especially since The Sound of Music Live and now with the 50th Anniversary of the film-I think its sort has gotten renewed interest in it-not that it wasn't already popular it just seems even more so now
The Sound of Music is a timeless classic! My grandmother took me to see the movie version of it on my eighth birthday; which was of course in 1965; the year that it was released.
True that. She's Peter Pan, too! And the original Nellie Forbush, could go on and on. Great actress! Great singer! She was sadly overlooked for film versions due to shortsightedness of those in power. Thanks for the reminder!
Do you know that Lauera Benanti who played Elsa (in last year's Sound of Music Live show starring Carrie Underwood) played Maria after Rebecca Luker left this production? Anyway, that was a decent performance.
Usually when I see the original (in this case Julie as Maria) I can usually find a Maria that isn't AS GOOD as the original BUT she does an actually great job at it and is a good close candidate (perhaps as a good understudy sort of role so to speak) but I haven't seen one Maria that could be even close to Julie.
Keep in mind that the original Maria was Mary Martin. Who played the role more tom boyish. According to the real Maria Von Trapp Mary Martin was a lot more like her than Julie Andrews. Having said that Julie as the Maria pretty much everyone knows is unbeatable!
I hate to quibble, but it's the opposite. You can google Julie Andrews Reveals Sound of Music Secrets New York Post where Andrews once again tells the story that Maria von Trapp was on set at Salzburg and told Julie "I'm glad you're playing me as a tomboy because that's what I was." Julie's gone on record with this one since the 60s.
My friend and I love Sound of Music so much, particularly the Austrian maid Frau Schmidt, that we made a parody of the musical told from Frau's perspective. It's a comedy that we both wrote. If you're interested in seeing it yourself, youtube "Sound of Frau" and click on the version with the best quality! :D
I'm playing the Captain in a local production, and I'm totally in love with this video. :D Only I'm sad because my production cut the wedding scene. :(
What an odd montage for the show. Beginning with the wedding scene, which is, of course, horribly rushed. Then straight into Do Re Mi. I think this could have been far better planned. Luker is lovely though.
Man, as much as I love The Sound of Music, I will never like Climb Every Mountain. It's always so overblown and SUNG SUNG SUNG. Blech. Do-Re-Mi is awesome, always.
I saw this show out at the Jones Beach Theatre some years ago and the actress who played the Mother Abbess had the most incredible voice I had ever heard.
Screeching nuns instead of fervent prayer. Slip shod direction in every aspect. Nevertheless Rebecca Lukker remains the shining light they could not diminish.
I saw The Sound of Music on Broadway in 1960 when I was nine. I could never stomach Julie Andrews with her British accent playing a German fraulein. Gimme a break. It was so plastic.
“My heart will be blessed with the sound of music, and I’ll sing once more” makes we well up every single time I hear it 🥹

I do agree that we really need one in the future!
Caroline BVHS2019 Tesoro True but I didn't feel like seeing it
There was national tour in back 2016
@@yaycoffe123 I'm seeing a local production on Mother's Day
The Broadway production is doing an Asian tour now. And I watched it in Malaysia!!!! My first ever musical and was worth every cent
Mary Martin was the original Maria. She originated the role on Broadway. Julie Andrews played it in the movie. (Julie was my favorite.)
Let's not forget Carrie Underwood's compelling vocal and dramatic performance as Maria in NBC's live December 2013 telecast!
@@allenjones3130Kara tointon in the UK live version was a highlight!

My Grandmother took me to see it when I was 8 in Dec 1965. Fox theater in LA. Great memory.
Get chills every time. Beautiful
The ending is so beautiful!
Truly beautiful
+Manuel Orozco so beautiful 😍😲😲
subtile jess No doubt

Prayers to dear Rebecca suffering from ALS
This was a wonderful (Hallmark?) production which incorporated some of the film's adaptations into the Broadway version.

Carrie Underwood was just good as Julie Andrews playing Maria.
@@Lisa-di1wi Guess we can agree on
my theater group is doing this this summer! im playing Louisa, SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! also, captain von trap looks just like a guy i know! freaky

Martin Beck theatre on Broadway has seen many productions of Fiddler and the Sound of Music-
Geez a theatre with my name--im proud that my name is associated with a Broadway theatre.
I'm proud that a theater on Broadway has my first name Martin, the Martin Beck theater.
Now it's home to Moulin Rogue
I'm proud that a theater bares my first name in NYC.
I'm playing the Captain in a local production, and I'm totally in love with this video. :D Only I'm sad because my production cut the wedding scene. :(
My heart feels all warm and fuzzy now!
I saw this in person.
Cute kids.
It felt like they were trying to shove as much as they could into their allotted time.
@scorpioninpink Julie is the best at anything in the world!!!
she was in the film... as far as I am aware she never played the role on stage
Tem o vídeo do espetáculo inteiro? Gostaria muito de assistir.
Não, Rita. Só esse trecho e olhe lá!!!
Tem o vídeo completo da montagem brasileira!!
Still Unbelievable.

This is how it should be done.
Julie Andrew is the best Maria in the WORLD!!!

Julie Andrew is the best in the movie and as Maria too!!!
Performance was awesome !!! But C'mon , This song in the movie was done on a Meadow in the movie .

You don't know what you're talking about. The height of singing in that show was THAT son. Beautiful singing by the Mother Abbess. Timeless
hi I actually find it like you walk alone co-indence r and h wrote that , excellent songs 😁
Amy Heins you will never know how important that number is and how much it takes to sing it

@WoFHb111 I agree!
The music helped me get over the nauseous feeling from listening to Rosie O’Donnell at the beginning.
What's wrong with Rosie
I'm guessing everyone in the wedding part were the understudies?
+christytina81 Hard for me to tell
No this clip is recorded. If you are are in the awards you'll just watch the nuns singing in the wings.
She's an actress, that makes her the best at not being Julie as well as the best at being Julie.
Well, *COUGH* Mary Martin (original Broadway Maria) and the actual Maria. Don't get me wrong, I love Julie, but you can't forget the originals.
You said it.
@@Juliaflo Mary Martin was 46 when she played in the original. Now that's a stretch!
Should mother superior have a staff and all the extraness like that? They were nuns!
how can she be the best at not being julie? i don't know, but somehow she can. she's just that good.
Am I the only one who thinks Captain Von Trapp looks a bit like Andrew Keenan-Bolger in this?
'The Sound of Music'?! Oh, boy! I can't wait to see Maria! ... My apologies, who is that?
a great musical and I am a atheist ☺

@scorpioninpink NO!!! Julie Andrews is the best singer back then!!
lol bye stage plays are always better
Avonell Rose this is a stage play lmao
she is, but way too old to do the part and to keep this wonderful stage show, we need to recast her. Not crazy about rebecca luker
soryr mary martin is best then julie :P
Rebecca Luker is a far better singer than Julie Andrews.
The movie is way better
