Imagine the passion he had for spiderman and being titled the worst, andrews role is possibly closely my favorite, im glad he had this opportunity that 7 billion others will never. Im glad he got to experience that so he can kinda blow that experience our way, he did that as much i believe as people just chalk him up to be the worst, no. People are flawed and overly sensitive to their expectations and afraid of change, this man’s spiderman is a change well needed

He was great in Spider-man but the material wasn’t. I think people realize that because of how much love he received in the No Way Home cameo.

Andrew is so dedicated and honest in his acting. He gives very believable and committed performances. He is an incredible actor. I aspire to be an actor like him, even though there is one of him in the world. He is very special though.

It's nice to know that there are famous people who are, at the end of the day, just people like us and are not ashamed of sharing their struggle and difficulties. That's the real kind of inspiration that we need!

all famous people are just like us, there are some who don't seem to see that but they're just foolish. the sentiment of "us vs them" is an illusion

Andrew Garfield is amazing!!!!.The next Andrew Garfield's movie will be BREATHE. Based on the true story of Robin (Garfield), a handsome, brilliant and adventurous man whose life takes a dramatic turn when polio leaves him paralyzed.
You can see him in: 99 homes, Never let me go, Boy A, Red Riding, The social Network, Silence, Hacksaw Ridge, etc

It's not for everyone, but I highly recommend 'Under the Silver Lake'. Garfield is phenomenal and the film itself is super thought-provoking, at least I thought so, especially if you're big into David Lynch.

I swear.. it’s almost like this interview came at the right time. Because I am going through exactly this. I kid you not I have a meeting at 4:30. It’s 3:18 rn. And I have pretty big decisions to make and I was feeling so overwhelmed and anxious. And my inner was doing just that (“psst! You are a piece of shit” voice followed by “this feels like dying” 🤣 as extreme as it may sound but it also signifies that what I am signing myself up for are things that matter to me, that will make me a well rounded person and indeed give me all taht I dream of .. so why am I so afraid of both winning and losing. I just genuinely want to know what song that busker was playing. But I get his point. Showing up is more important than staying back. So, wish me luck guys! 🥺♥️♥️♥️

      How would you define art?

    • @doctornov7
      @doctornov7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Cory Prior Sorry only just seen this:
"Anything that you create out of thin air, that another person likes or is moved by in some way is art" - writing is done out of thin air, acting is not: it is dependent on writing and/or the story it's enacting.
Have you ever been moved by an actor who has spoken poor words, or been in a "bad" movie, directed poorly?
My essential point is acting, particularly on film, is a craft, first and foremost. It's dependent on good writing and to an extent good directing. Everything you've described here ^^ is essentially praising the writing.
The actor's job is to be a conduit of the writer, would you not agree? If the writing is poor, an actor will likely not be praised, even if he's doing his best work, so to speak.
"If you can capture an experience like that, and give it to somebody else - that's what art is" - I agree, but the actor doesn't capture it, the writer has; and the actor is simply bringing the pre-existing words to life. Of course actors are important, but they're not the real artists, the writers are. In my opinion. As Marlon Brando said, if an actor has a well-written part, his can't miss. His job is to get out of the way and the words will be enough. Marlon had lots of thoughts on this, and I think he's more qualified than almost anyone.
"Movies and works of fiction have been known to do that" - absolutely, but again you're describing the written material and the finished product as a whole, not the acting itself. Acting is the mechanism by which artistic words come to life and are expressed. But to say it's art in and of itself is like saying the isolated act of painting is art. No, just because the finished product may be deemed art doesn't mean the physical processes it took to achieve that are. Does that make sense? A director may produce a film people say is art, but that doesn't make directing an art either.
Something else worth saying is that a lot of actors are artists, that is to say they have an artistic sensibility, an artist's soul. But I mean that acting in itself is not art, if you look at it on its own as a physical process, a skill. If you feel moved by a performance, a lot of that comes down to the writing, and how the words connect to you as an individual. The film was probably shot well, lit well etc. It's not just the acting that does it. Of course, an actor who has an artistic sensibility is likely going to ultimately be a better actor, but that doesn't mean that acting is art either.
The definition of acting is essentially to perform.
Perform - "present (a form of entertainment) to an audience."
The actor's job is to present the artistic sentiment of the writer, not create anything them-self. Even when actors improvise, it's within the boundaries already set by the writer and the director, using characters they didn't create. Actors don't create the characters, they interpret the characters and perform them as they are written.
