    Hi Tinman, I recommended your channel to several folks today that were looking for information on porting power saws. I do not have the time to port saws for others right now so I have been looking for an honest and open source for info to refer folks to, so that they can learn to port themselves or have a better understanding of porting when hiring a saw builder. Having followed your channel from the beginning I can truly say you have the heart of a teacher. Your transparency in this video continues to prove that. Thank You!

    I was gonna subscribe either way but your honesty about chipping the plating and explaining that that's how things go when you're building things completely sold it for me. Honesty goes a long way and it's in short supply around here.

    Tin man I was watching this thinking it's a 268 but close to the 272 Hyway titanikel cylinder with a pop-up piston I'm going to use as soon as I get time to get to it. Now I guess it is as long as yours has a pop-up piston. It sucks to have the plating chip in that spot. I'm sure it will get used for something at some point 😉. Good video of course now the name of the video will have to be 268/272

    Tinman, I just watched a video Bayou Country Power Saws has up about a 262xp and it runs great. I own a 262xp that needs some work, but seeing you port this 268 gives me a good idea on what to do with those lower transfers so it'll run more like Kensies 262 than it does stock. Thanks Tinman!!!

      @@tinmanssaws Pulled the cylinder and there's some dark grey by the both ports (wear or aluminum transfer from piston on exh side?) and the exh side of the piston has scored marks not not on the int side, and now crank won't rotate. I put it back together and it's a project saw to learn on. It'll be 6 months or so before I tackle this but I'll keep you informed. Umm decided tomorrow to pour fuel and oil mix into lowers to soak them bearing.

    Love the videos although I would have left the cylinder side of the transfer stock bar a light stoning to clean the casting .. My thinking is by keeping it stock you force the column of air towards the rear transfer wall and strengthen its entry into the cylinder ..

      Ruined the first cylinder I tried to port by doing what tinman did right next to exhaust port. Wolf creek saw shop took care of me - it cost me $75 to have a new cylinder shipped, and he mailed it even before I paid for it. Amazing service, not a bad fee for such a big error.

  • @Grizzman99
    @Grizzman99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think its interesting how much you focus on transfers. Very to cool to see a well known guy port first hand. Definitely gives me more confidence in my own porting. Although a dremel is a pain to port with. Constantly overheats have to wait and port for 5 minutes wait and do it again and again. Have to invest in better tooling. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on porting the upper transfers, intake, and exhaust ports. Do you have any videos of porting a McCulloch? I'll dig through your videos and find out. Nice video!

    What can you do to try and minimize the chipping? I'm thinking the chipping on the left side of the transfer is due to the rotation of the tool lifting the plating. Reversing the rotation on that side would probably stop the big chips. I'd also hazard a guess that generally chipping would be minimized as the tool speed goes up. I'd try and get comfortable with it at max speed. Not sure though. The thing can really dig in if not controlled well.

    • @whatnowstinky
      @whatnowstinky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i was thinking the same thing about the plating.
      maybe try doing the finishing cuts with the right angle tool so the teeth of the burr are running roughly along the line of the plating.

    Another fantastic video! Your shot looking inside as you were grinding was very cool...did you stick the bore scope through the plug hole? So you left a very thin ring the original thickness across the bottom edge of the transfer’s... wouldn’t it allow more fuel charge to shoot up out of the bottom end if that material on the sides was pushed back to actually open up the very bottom of the transfer’s??? Or do you need that to be acting as a seal kinda to make the fuel mixture shoot through the piston window’s and not get mixed around???
