  • Michelle is a long-time educator who decided to help children in need by becoming a foster parent. After awhile, she was ready to take a short pause from foster parenting. But before hanging up the phone with the KVC foster care team, she had one final thought. She said if any kids at the school she teaches at come into foster care, she would take care of them because it would be easy to take them to and from school with her. Little did she know, a young brother and sister from her school had just come into foster care a couple hours earlier and needed a safe, loving home. Michelle said yes.
In this moving success story, you'll see what it was like when the kids were dropped off at Michelle's home on Halloween evening 2017. They were carrying the weight of the world on their little shoulders, but thrilled to see a teacher they knew from their school. That began a long, beautiful journey for Michelle, Mikhayla and Dakota. When a court ruled that it would never be safe for the kids to return to their biological home, the path opened for Michelle to adopt the kids. Now the children are thriving, and Michelle is encouraging others to take the first step to learn more about fostering or adopting a child in need. Learn more at www.kvc.org/foster.
