We’re so afraid to be seen as losers that we're willing to suffer in exchange for other people’s approval. What a sad state of being in, as by putting our money on external goods, we become dependent on them and gamble away our chances of being happy and free. According to Epictetus, we must be willing to let go of what he called “lesser things.” And if that means that we become total losers in the eyes of society, then that’s a price worth paying.
This video doesn’t advocate for neglecting oneself or self-harm: quite the contrary, from a Stoic point of view. It explores the philosophy of Epictetus, showing a different way to determine what’s important in life, the concept of “being a loser,” and why being “seen” as a loser doesn’t have to be a bad thing. There has to be some balance imo because having and maintaining your social skills is actually very important. You should never seek external approval from others, as you should rely on your inner worth and approval the most but you shouldn't fully disregard what other people say or think either.
The best thing you can do is to find an occupation you have the skills to become great at and surround yourself with like-minded people in an organization to become better and create the best results. In short, care about the things that really matters and ignore the things that do not.

Al Bundy, the perennial "loser", in the hit sitcom Married with Children, had an episode that summed up what it's like to just accept yourself despite society's definition of being a "loser". In that episode he returned an overdue library book that was 30 years overdue. The librarian, who was there 30 years ago, called Al a "loser", and that she always knew he would be a failure in life. Al responded by saying that he might have a lousy job, a family that disrespects him, no money, old and balding, but one thing he is not is a "loser". He went on to say that putting up with his failures in life and not putting a bullet in his head makes him a WINNER. The crowd cheered Al, as well they should.

Then over time the system gets smarter, the elite build this crazy fucking system that manipulates us, and pits us against each other, while they swing glitters and golds in our face like a carrot on a stick.
They exclude our basic needs from us, and force us into gathering the ingredients, putting all the work into the mix, but at the end of the day, we get the smallest slice of the cake

With that said, friends are great to have and can seem to be the ones who take your back in your time of need, but wait until they hit their 30-40's and have a family of their own to provide for and protect.
It took me until my 30's to fully appreciate the meaning and truth behind the adage "blood is thicker than water". @Rodrick Perkins_CPA I meant “need” exactly in that way. When my neurotransmitters are in balance, my symptoms of mental illness decrease. My brain needs those levels balanced or I can’t function. Literally. I was born with a serotonin imbalance which in turn is why I struggle with OCD. Having them balanced out helps me stay alive and function. I don’t think it’s fair to say someone is less successful because of medical issues.

I am a loser and do not have to mess with humans at all. I have no friends. I do not know how, but people realise I am a loser without really knowing me. This automatically makes them not anything to do with me. Without friends, nor a romantic interest, life is extremely easy, predictable, symmetrical, affordable, and full of freedom, life is with nobody in it but myself. I am also far more knowledgeable than almost all social people. I am supernaturally self-reliant, have no dependencies on anybody, know how to do everything myself and by myself, even things that most people require assistance from others to do. I do not even have to pay, "professionals," to do anything for me, save maybe medical services. I can not complain. Besides, I have been the only person in my life for so long that I would not even know how to converse with anybody. Thus, I just keep things the way I know them, alone. I require nobody in my life.

I switched of career, even if I was very successful in my previous one, just because I wanted to. If I want to stop working for a couple of years, I can do it as my life cost is low and I don't spend lots of money even if I have a high income. Once I accepted my place, the fight wasn't so hard. Now it's just my life & it's so freeing. I don't compete with anyone. I don't get envious of anyone. I don't really take notice of anything or anyone. Other people's opinions mean nothing to me & I'm happy in my space. Life is easy. • @jidowu6019

It doesn't sound like you're free at all. Your post reeks of irony. You say you don't care about others' opinions, yet you just labeled yourself by a label that "they" use: loser.
Others' opinions can be valuable. You can learn new things, fresh perspectives, etc. from others' opinions. You are only human and are not all-knowing. You can, however, learn from the experiences of others.
Competition can be healthy when not competing in a malicious manner. Competition breeds growth and evolution.
Being envious of someone has nothing to do with being a loser or not being a loser.
Life is never easy. This notion that life can be easy is childish logic. Being a loser will not help you cope with the death of a loved, a terminal illness, financial straits, social ailments, etc.

Cheap justification for internal dissatisfaction. Shallow toxic positivity that doesn't actually solve anything.
A loser might be a label, but it's also a feeling, a state of mind, and a position in society. It is an observable thing, not a social construct, and it should absolutely be avoided. If you don't think losers exist, you are either very lucky to be in a place where you don't see people who have lost everything, or you have blinded yourself with your own toxicly positive, unhelpful attitude .
There's a few absolutes in life that relate to being a loser. First; hierarchy is inevitable. All live exists in hierarchy. Second; the natural state of the universe is entropy. Life is no different, and if you aren't moving forward, you're falling behind. Third; it absolutely sucks to be at the bottom. It is chaos incarnate. Nearly all the crime happens to the people at the bottom. Nearly all the rape, theft, murder and assault happens to those, and by those, who have little.
Not only is being a loser not "just a label", it is living hell. At the lowest rungs of society, health is poor, and pain is a constant. Depression and anxiety is all but guaranteed. Those people can barely do anything for themselves. They don't even do housework, because they are so busy trying to distract themselves from their discomfort with cheap entertainment and substance abuse. They can't get a job because they're discriminated against, truthfully not because they are poor, but because they aren't organized, or are uncomfortably nervous.
You are not only dead wrong on this, but harmfully so. Source: I'm a support worker.

What's funny is that after finally being popular, I realized how useless it was 😂 Turns out it was my insecurity in the end that drove me to seeking friends 🤷🏻‍♂️ Now I have two friends and their partners that I see on a weekly-ish basis, otherwise I keep to myself (and even with two friends sometimes I wish I had none so I could have more free time!). I think you're good in seeking friendships, you'll eventually settle on a number that feels good, I would also throw on how to thoroughly enjoy your own company on top of that.

I remember a former coworker of mine got into an argument/debate with someone, and I can't even remember what it was about, but at some point he just ended by saying "Well, all that proves is that you're better than me." It stopped there because how can you argue with that? It cuts straight to the core of what we seldom admit, which is that some part of us really just wants to be seen as better than those around us, by whatever metric we've decided is important. The phrase stuck with me because when we finally cede that we're not "better" and that we can sit comfortably with that, we actually gain a strange sense of freedom in just being who we are and not having to pretend that we're more than that.

The flaw in this is "who are you?".
No matter what someone sees you as or how you see yourself, you are always being "you".
Weither you gain a massive ego and be an asshole or just be humble about things. You could have been anyone or be anyone as of right now.
To think about how wide it is, it doesn't really answer the question until you come to the conclusion of saying "I'm me".
No one was ever fake, neither were you, when people say "just be yourself" they're just saying "do what you want to do", but that's another thing to talk about.
Should we always do what we want to do?
I know some of us are taught we don't always get what we want, however I think a better thing should be "Sometimes getting what you want isn't good for you".
Although it teaches you to not always go by your desires, it does make one a little more empathetic towards achieving someone else's desire rather than ones own. (Aka kindness and being selfless, even though you incorporate their want to your own desire).

      Child-exploiter-Breediot 'logic', 'morality', 'ethics' 101:
      - NPC-normies who want kids be like: The world is a horrible, disgusting, oppressive place!
      - Also, NPC-normies who want kids be like: I hope to force at least 7- 20 kids (against their will, without their permission/consent) one day into this horrible/disgusting/oppressive place!
      - I am like: soooo you choose to impose exploitation from all points of views, suffering and death on innocent sentient beings?! Your lack of empathy is horrifying and astonishing at the same time.
      Religious nutcases’ ‘logic’:
"Everyone is born a sinner "
"Sin is what causes us to suffer"
"Let's be fruitful & multiply to create countless suffering sinners"
Humans are born with sin. Sin is bad. Is it a good thing to create more sin through breeding like animals?
It's just funny how anyone needs a license to drive and a license to do pretty much anything, BUT not for forcing innocent beings into this existence of exploitation, suffering and death.
If an unborn soul existed and if it could take a look at the world beforehand, it would never choose to come into existence.
      Breediots are death factories.
Breediots are needy, codependent, narcissistic, psychopaths. They lack logic, compassion & empathy. They know breeding is the easiest way to have a codependent, narcissistic supply!
Breeditos lie to their kids, for example they do not tell them they were used as a life insurance and or because of laziness because their mom didn't want to work at stay at home. She literally made a human sacrifice (you) 4 that. It's scary and wild.
Let's analyze or translate what doctors say about people with "depression": they are basically saying that, the brain, does not produce enough happy drugs to make people think that this place is a walk in the park or some kind of paradise therefore, they need to give you drugs so that you too think this is something magical . in other words, you need to be drugged to want to be here.
Every pot head and druggie/alcoholic that I know is adamant about themselves breeding. Even though they need drugs to be able to cope with life, they insist on FORCING their own spawn into existence knowing their spawn will also have to be on drugs to be able to cope with life. Misery loves company. they insist on creating suffering spawn pawns to keep them company in their own misery. That is The Epitome of Selfishness/narcissism/immorality/sadism/being unethical/being irresponsible/being diabolical. Somebody once said "if you aren't happy with being alive you're probably depressed" Then I realized they were taking pillz for depression and anxiety....like how dare you?
Do your children a favor - DO NOT HAVE ANY !!! Yeah my non existent children will never have to wake up early for school, never worry: about failing a class, about being bullied, about how they will pay for college, about taking ridiculous classes in college that have nothing to do with their major, about competing for a job, or trying to impress some pompous asshole on a job interview, never have to sit in traffic to go to a job they hate, never have to worry about inflation, about health issues and DEATH!
LIFE IS BEING SHAT OUT OF A STINKING CUNT INTO A LONG MEANINGLESS ESCALATING SUFFERING THAT ENDS IN DEATH... AND I WOULD NOT WISH THAT ON MY WORST ENEMY…
Nobody asked to be here and be bullied in school and have to be a slave and be exploited from all points of views for the rest of my life and DIE in the end... ALL TOTALLY POINTLESS, for no reason. I wish mercy on poor souls forced here by sadist, child hating, with no constructive purpose/hobbies, low IQ, lonely, bored to death, narcissistic, selfish, immoral, unethical, irrational, illogical, control freak, megalomaniacal, power tripping, virtue signalling, suffering with god complex breediots/child exploiter-NPCs.
Once you purposely become a unconscious breediot-child-exploiter, i.e. a biological parent, you are saying to the world that you are ready for every terrible thing that will happen to the innocent souls you forced into this dimension (without their consent/permission, against their will), and you as a breediot shouldn't complain about anything!
Just b/c you found a way to make it doesn’t mean the next one will. If you love children, don’t FORCE them here, especially without their consent/permission.
I would never bring one into this insane asylum! I have far too much empathy to ever do that to a child! IF i ever really wanted a kid i would adopt one! A child that is already forced here and stuck here and needs a home!
Pretty ironic how "loving" breediots get so violent about violently bringing/raping others into a violent world.
I'm always expecting violent outbursts from the breediot crowd. These triggered individuals are the same ones that are okay with the prospect of inevitable harm to those they claim to want to protect, so of course they wouldn't flinch at the idea of harming someone that challenges their narcissistic point of view.
The gov changing their tax laws regarding breeders vs non-breeders to Stop robbing the non-breeders to give breeders free rents, will cause more people to choose to not breed more than any other Preventionist activity, but the gov won’t listen to only one person complaining about this. We need to approach the gov as a Big Tribe to get them to change these tax laws.
The precious cargo the school-busses carry will be future wage slaves, and most of them will repeat their breediot parent's mistake of breeding more victims and perpetrators.
Procreation should be illegal & everyone should be involuntarily sterilized! No one should have the ability to inflict serious, preventable harms upon others without their consent by creating a life. More broadly, no one has the moral right to take action on someone else’s behalf without their consent, except when the action is taken to prevent an even greater harm. Reproductive rights my ass. Procreation is murder. Literally a death sentence. You don’t want everyone to have homicidal rights, do you?
Preventionists love children enough not to bring them into this world of life-long exploitation, slavery, suffering, death and eternal torture in hell.
Life is not a gift, life is just a sick game so this sick bastard called "god" can abuse us.

Even then some of my parents friends look down on me because I’m typically dirty, I don’t enjoy talking about high class stuff.
I don’t have much “knowledge” from school or college. (Still have a hard time reading)
Yet I’ve been blessed with running a business.
I don’t care about their opinions because God chose a different path for me.

The problem with being a loser, is that you can lose out on even basic necessities. I have never expected to be rich, very attractive, or famous...I just want to be safe, and have a love life.

Safety is a myth. It does not exist or occur in this reality. In reality, there is only risk. You can minimize risk, but you can never completely eliminate it. No one can control the universe, and the universe, by its nature, is inherently dangerous and risky to human health and life.

I was homeless and on drugs as a teenager. These days I have an above average job, small flat and no addiction. That's enough for me because it's a world of difference from what I used to have. I think that perspective is why I don't care about having a big house or loads of shit. Being homeless legit keeps you grounded later in life.

What makes me feel like a loser is not doing what I love and ignoring the drive to try new things due to fear. Everything else doesn't matter to me.

Same with me. I have social anxiety which I tried denying for years but I’ve come to accept it now and it’s the reason I have not done a lot of things I wanted to do. I hope I can conquer it so I can be free.

im a film major at penn state. i’m genuinely so thrilled someone is making this project happen. it’s such an incredible idea. i’ve always felt so isolated from my male friends more so than my girlfriends. a project like this that brings attention to it is so crucial.
it’s such an important relationship to have in the modern world. my dads dad didn’t have guy friends, my dad doesn’t have guy friends (they did once, but they always fall off. this isn’t the case for women). i want as many good male friends as i have female friends when i am married. such an amazing video idea.

Its amazing how the most content ppl I have known are "menials" , yet those who I met at University have gone on to earn lots of money mostly and seem disingenuous at best, false at worst. No one can wear a mask indefinitely. We define success wrongly imo. Ive gone from eating beans to making lots of money, then back to eating beans, then back to making money. I think Stoicism is accepting the vagaries of fate without destroying yourself over it.
